In my two hours drive to pick up my Pennsylvania Licence To Carry Permit as a non resident, I went window shopping for an over under shotgun for clay shooting plus stopped to view cows and horse driven carriges along the way. Beautiful.
Retail gun stores in the many states I travel have different policies on their ability to sell long guns to customers who live in New York State vs those who live New York City. Being a holders of a permit for 11 years, I totally UNDERSTAND the rule but don't 100% AGREE with NYC rules being more restrictive because criminals all over the world including N.Y.C don't live by ANY rules.
This is the good part. I believe (but dont quote me) over under shotguns are legal in all 50 states because it has a sporting or hunter style stock and it only holds 2 rounds of ammo. There is a N.Y. Penal code 265.40, from what I read (again not sure it is still current in 2024) that's states it is lawful to purchase long guns in other states if it borders with the state of N.Y.
It is called the Gun Control act of 1968. A gun shop not in New York explained to me that because of this law and the state that I was in DONT border each other, he could not sell me a 2 shell shotgun and criminals carry Glocks with switches on them. I was trying to save a few dollars because that state had lower sales tax than New York. Criminals 1, Legal gun/ owners 0.
I was thinking this would help law enforcement help solve crimes.
Just curious if any one has any personal reasons for not carrying somewhere
So I’ve been carrying a gun since the day I’ve legally be allowed to which in my state is 18 years old. I am currently almost 20 and in my time carrying I have only pulled my firearm one time in a defensive situation. So this was back in August of 2023 I was with a small group of friends at my friend’s mom’s house. It was me, my best friend who for this story I’ll call Jason, his girlfriend who I’ll refer to as Ashlie and our friend’s mom who I’ll call Jamie.
Anyway the night began with me leaving my house with the intention of just going to go wash my car and come right back home, I remember having a little internal debate if I should even carry or not cause I figured I’d be right back in just a few minutes but I decided I would just in case. I went and washed my car when I got a call from my best friend Jason who asked if I could give him a ride home from Ashlie’s house so he could get all his equipment for the Army like his duffle bags, ruck and what not. I said I would so I picked him up and gave him a ride. Once we got to his house he grabbed all his stuff and his grandpa whom he lived with (a combat veteran of the American invasion of Panama) gave me money for the drive and we went back to Ashlie’s house. While Jason was there he found an old bottle of some really cheap rum and began taking a few drinks of it while i drove him back.
When we got to Ashlie’s house she said that our friends mom Jamie invited us over for some type of going away party since Jason was currently enlisted in the Army reserves and was due to leave for AIT in just a couple days and I was Enlisted in the Army about to leave for OSUT as well.
We got there and we started the night and we definitely had a few drinks and Ashlie ended up inviting a few other guys she knew over to the house because her and Jason had been having some issues or whatever I don’t know it wasn’t my business but they got there and it understandably pissed Jason off and he began drinking a lot more. To the point of finishing his own bottle and the majority of what we had for ourselves. Ashlie and one of the guys she invited over who I’ll call Clayton began talking a lot and to a degree definitely ignored Jason and throughout the night Jason got more and more pissed. He got to the point of being so upset and intoxicated he tried to walk the 1 hour car ride home carrying his ruck. He only made it a little bit down the road before collapsing and sitting in the road. I went to go get him and to try to calm him down which didn’t help that much but I was successful in getting him to come back to the house.
When we got there he had asked where I had my gun at. I told him I left it at home but I had actually hidden it inside the house because alcohol and firearms don’t mix well obviously. At this point I’m sober and Jason is even more intoxicated. He was causing a scene and behaving aggressive towards everyone there. I don’t remember what he did that was the final straw with the home owner but he ended up getting kicked out of the house and I called his grandpa to come pick him up and waited outside with him.
A few minutes went by and Jason ran inside and went straight to the kitchen and grabbed a long steak knife. He then ran to the room that Ashlie and Clayton were in and began stabbing them. Thankfully this was also the room that I had hidden my firearm in so I grabbed it and started screaming at him to drop the knife or I was going to shoot him. I wasn’t able to get a good shot on him without someone being in the crossfire so I didn’t pull the trigger but when I said that he stopped and got off of them and tried to leave this house but due to how drunk he was went into the wrong door and entered the garage so I ran to the door and locked him inside and called 911. It wasn’t hardly a minute later and there was already a half dozen cop cars outside the house and he was in handcuffs.
The victims were ambulatory and didn’t have any imminently life threatening injuries. So this is most of the story and everything that happened, he ended up getting charged with more felonies than I’ve ever heard of that night and just recently got sentenced to 10 years in DOC. I never had to testify in court because I was in OSUT throughout the entire trial. Both victims were released from the hospital that day and I never faced any legal trouble of my own. The officers that I spoke to at the scene (I probably shouldn’t have) said that I most likely saved the life’s of the people that were there. Anyway that’s basically the story it’s pretty long but if anyone has any questions I don’t mind answering them. I’m aware some things could have been handled better but it also definitely could have gone worse and even though I didn’t kill him it was still a traumatic experience.
TLDR (edit) -
Has been carrying for 2 years.
One night he and his friends were drinking at a house. His best friend gets drunk and is kicked out, goes crazy, and starts stabbing others. He drew his weapon (that was hidden in house) and threatened to shoot best friend if he didn't stop. Best friend stopped and tried to leave, but was locked in a garage.
Cops came, best friend was arrested and sentenced to 10 years (and dishonorably discharged from Army) , other friends were ok.
buying things is hard, I already have my m18 handgun.
most holsters are shit and at most Chinese quality, ive looked everywhere and the most reputable brand that sells here is 5.11 that has a lot of shops in many cities.
I'm new to CCW, not new to handguns. I'm kinda lost to be honest. at the moment I carry it in a crossbody handbag, but I know that is 100% not ideal.
edit: clarification, I'm a Mexican Naval Infantry officer, we are allowed by law to carry any caliber, any weapon in any state of Mexico. Our military id cards even say we don't need to have a license to carry in the back. I'm not a US citizen trying to CCW in Mexico.
Anybody use a uspc v7 with lem trigger for ccw? Any pros or cons with this single stack?
I bought an iwb kydex holster for a g45 with a olight pl mini 2 valkyrie but I have a mini 3 valkyrie. Does anyone know if I could modify the holster to fit the light or should I return it and look for a holster made for the correct light?
Im looking to change the rear giant U on the 2.0 Is it confirmed or no if the tru-glo for the 1.0 fits? I see conflicting info out there. Any other options?
Going to be sending my 365 off to wager machine to get cut for a eps
Is it worth the cost to get it nitrided again? Or just do the cerakote?
Hey everyone.
Last month I asked here about your thoughts on the LCP max. I listened to what everyone said and shot it at the range.... and man was it snappy. Not terrible for a pocket pistol, but I did NOT enjoy shooting it.
Well, I'm still in the market. I have a glock 17 for home defense and absolutely love it. But after getting my concealed carry license, I'm looking for something to conceal carry regularly as my EDC.
I shot the : P365 Hellcat 380 bodyguard 2.0 M&P Shield 2.0 Apx1 Canik tp9sf (boy was I pleasantly surprised by canik. Great gun, just a tad big for EDC) Glock 19
I narrowed it down to the .380 bodyguard and the m&p shield. And I CAN NOT decide between the two. I like them both equally.
Just wanted to ask what other people thought?
I would love to carry OC spray and I feel like with this it would be very convenient to have pepper spray in the mag spot and my gun in the other.
Ask Away. This is a judgement free thread where people should ask any questions relating to self defense or CCW no matter how silly they think it may be.
I wear Tenicor Zero belts for everyday but feel like I’ll need to get a sturdier belt for multiple OWB attachments. So far I’m comparing:
Feedback is much welcome.
Suggestions for a beretta 80x holster (threaded barrel edition)? something comfortable I could carry iwb. also played with the idea of cross draw iwb? Maybe able to wear with a tucked shirt, I’m thinking something like leather would be more comfortable but I’m open to ideas or input
What is the best insurance in the state of Washington for ccw carry? This state is getting weirder by the minute.
Can I book an appointment Online for a Carry license in Gwinnett County, GA? The office is in Lawrenceville from what I can see but I'm not seeing you can make the appointment Online. Is it Walk in only? Thanks.
Last night we had a family Christmas event near where my family is originally from and not far from where my father’s parents and other son who passed before I was born are buried. I lost my father this year and decided that I am going to have half of his ashes buried with his parents and other son. Being close by I thought it would be a good opportunity to go to the cemetery and find the plots and try to plan the headstone that incorporates all of them. This is a smaller cemetery in a poor small town that is not pristinely kept. Having never been there I did not know where the plots were. With no directory myself and my girlfriend were searching around the cemetery for the correct place. I noticed there was a loose dog (approximately 40-50 lbs pitbull mix)roaming in one corner, and we needed to go look in that corner to see if the plots were there. I told my girlfriend to keep her eyes on it just in case.
Right across the street from this corner of the cemetery there is a property that looks like a literal garbage dump with a travel trailer and two run down trucks that the dog left the cemetery and walked into.
We walk aver towards the corner of the cemetery that the dog had been to look for the plots when we hear a bark and look up to see the dog running at us coming from its yard.
Less than two seconds later. Another one rounds the corner and is running. Within another second three more come around the front of the truck. At this point I grab my OC out of my left pocket and have my thumb under the flip top. As soon as I grab the OC, 6-7 more turn the corner running towards us and the other dogs ahead of them.
By this time the first and second dog are within about 7-10 feet from me. The next three are about 15-20 feet and the other six or so are rapidly closing. The lead dog/alpha is getting closer and closer to me continuously growling with his tail rigid and the rest of his body made to look as big as he can. I’m slowly walking backwards trying to put distance between us, not wanting to turn my back on them, but also try to not trip over other headstones. (As I found out later when asking her, my girlfriend was subtly guiding me backwards towards the truck. I didn’t even realize it in the moment but we were working together). The lead dog is advancing just as much as I’m moving backwards, and he’s got two others right at his haunches growling and snarling with the rest right behind all barking aggressively and growling.
At this point I’ve already realized that there are either exactly as many dogs or more than rounds I have in my BG 2.0 and that if I wait for the lead one to attack the others will follow suit. I press the sprayer on my POM and try to hit as many as I can, focusing for a moment on the most aggressive lead dog who is less than 3 feet from me. He immediately turns and runs off along with his closest two friends. The others freeze for a second and begin to slowly retreat as two of the first three run about 40 feet away and begin rolling and rubbing their faces in the grass. The entire situation took place in 15 seconds or less from the time the first dog barked.
Seeing that the threat is over and there’s now a a little distance between us and the closest dog who is now moving away we quickly move to the truck and get in.
At this point the largest adrenaline dump of my life hits and I realize that my heart is nearly pounding out of my chest.
My girlfriend and I both are positive that there were at least 12 dogs all of which were just like the first.
Thankfully I was carrying my OC like I do every day and was able to defuse the situation without discharging my firearm, potentially killing someone’s dogs and having to deal with police, police reports, angry owners, lawsuits etc. Like John from ASP has stated and why I started carrying OC “if the only tool you have is a hammer everything looks like a nail”.
What I hope to accomplish by sharing this is to encourage anyone who doesn’t already carry OC alongside their gun to start carrying one.
Just bought a Kimber CDS9, this is my first micro pistols (or at least smaller than the P320/M18 I normally carry), no one is making holsters for it specifically other than Kimber themselves so that’s what I’m using, and I’m not a huge fan of it. I usually use we the people holsters for my other guns which I love, but they don’t have one for it yet. Anyone else have one of these or have any good suggestions for a holster for it?
