.457 Flat-Points in the 180-250 Range?

In .457, I find FP slugs in the really light 165/166 gr. range, and then starting again at 279 gr. (and on up to enormous weights over 400 gr.), but I find a significant gap in the 180 - 250 gr. range: they're all HPs!

Don't get me wrong: there are lots and lots of different slugs in the 180 - 250 range -- in fact, it appears that the overwhelming majority of .457 slugs are in this range, and the variety available to us is impressive.
They're just all HPs.

I'd be interested in experimenting with wide meplat slugs at 190, 200, 210, 220, and 230, for instance.

Probably those of you who cast your own have options there. I'm just surprised that Nielsen and Griffin and Hunter Supply etc. etc. put out only HPs in that range.

Am I missing something?

Cocking the Marauder

I’m brand new to pcp’s and just received my Marauder semi auto. I’m ready to fill from zero to 3000psi but the instructions say that you must cock it first. How do I know if it is cocked? I’m assuming that you just pull back the charging handle. Would that be all? Just don’t want to be stupid and cause damage.

Bintac T9 extended magazine

Is this available in Europe? Or does some have a 3d printable file or a stl. Or something? Are there more 3d printing enthusiasts here?

Looking for a new grouse pistol

Hey all. I currently have a p17 which is giving me more issues than not. I'm in the market for a new pistol to hunt grouse and rabbits and going to step up to the .22 game.

The two I have my eyes on are the hatsan mod 25 and the Crossman 1322

Are there any others I should keep my eyes open for or does anyone have any recommendations? I would also like to put a red dot on it.

Can anyone help me with this question? ChatGpt fails to give good answer.

I have a projectile that is: 0,35 gramms , 4.5 mm diameter smooth round object. If I am shooting it upwards 90°degrees at sea level in 25 °C, average humidity, with 125 m/s exit speed at the muzzle. How high it goes, and what is the time it takes in the air before hitting the ground. Add air resistance! without it its nonsence. Add gravity to it of course.

Thank you!

How convenient are they?

Hey guys, I was looking into getting into air rifles for backyard plinking and squirrels as well as some rabbit hunting. While home plinking shouldn't have this issue, how does everyone deal with air and having to fill these up in order to be able to actually use them? I know there's hand pumps and you can use compressors etc but, that's not exactly convenient when out and about right?

Am I missing something? Or would it be best to just stick to actual rifles when hunting abroad?

Mounting scope on Trailscout?

I'm waiting on paperwork approval (Aus) for my Trailscout right now but at the purchase my vendor (not an air rifle fan) said he could not mount a scope on it and I was stuck with the iron sights.

I've seen plenty of posts with scopes mounted on them so what do I need to tell him to do to mount a scope? I can't see any Utg supplier in Aus so I was looking at a Tasco AO Triplex 3-9x40.

Any advice appreciated.

Noise level for break barrels (skunk problem)

Howdy,

I have a skunk vs. lawn problem. I live in a typical residential city neighborhood (houses +/- 60 feet away on either side but big backyard. I am considering buying a .22 break barrel pellet gun. Do you guys think this will be too loud for 3:00am skunk shooting?

BSA Ultra Stock Questions

TLDR: Can you buy a replacement stock that is longer, wooden and has a tripod mounting point?

I bought a used Single Shot with beech stock a while ago (used - awesome - highly recommend)

I recently had the opportunity to buy a multishot with combat stock and quick release tripod.

I had intended to swap the stocks over and sell the single shot with combat stock.

I didn't realise that a) the combat stock is longer and covers more of the gas cylinder and b) has a mounting point for the tripod.

Given both of these positives, I'm conflicted because the wooden stock feels significantly better to me but I really do like the tripod and the fact that more of the cylinder is covered.

So, can you buy a replacement stock that is longer, wooden and has a tripod mounting point?

Thanks!

Stock Swap BSA Ultra SE

Hey all, I've recently bought a black tactical stock Ultra multishot and already own a beech stock single shot. I'm going to swap those over and keep the multishot.

My question is, do I have to depressurise the guns before stock removal? I had assumed not, but I can't find info to say either way.

Anything else worth knowing?

Thanks!

Left the Airgun world for Suppressed 22: what I've learned so far

Hey guys. Just thought I'd share some thoughts here. I got into air rifles back in 2020 during covid, as I had just moved to a new property and wanted to do some shooting, but found that my neighbors were just a bit too close to the house, about 50 yards away.

Had 2 Benjamin Marauder PCP rifles that I adored. Being able to shoot so quietly and cheaply was awesome!

Unfortunately, I ultimately decided to sell all of my PCP rifles and supplies. As cool as the air rifles were, I had a few issues:

  • Marauder 25 cal is horrifically inefficient. In order to get 40 shots out of a single fill, I played around with half a dozen different hammer debounce devices and fixes. After spending hundreds of dollars on various parts and products, and hundreds of hours of my time, I never found one that was perfect. Really wanted a "set and forget" type of device. The ones I found were either not good enough (only increased shot count by a small portion), not consistent enough (did not hold a tune and would need retuned every few months) or would literally break after a thousand rounds or so, require the rifle to be fully taken apart, repaired, and again retuned. I really hated the uncertainty of wondering if I missed a shot on a squirrel or if my rifle needed retuned again for whatever reason. It was too unreliable as I needed to depend on this rifle for hunting trips.

  • Less of an issue but just not enough power. I got many squirrels with my 25 cal, but I found that if my shot placement wasn't perfect, I'd oftentimes just wound and lose squirrels, which is no go for me.

So, I ended up selling all the PCP stuff and using the funds to get my 22 rifles threaded and buy a suppressor. I ended up breaking about even. I will say, I personally think I made the right choice.

  • Regardless of what people say online, I have found that 22LR suppressed is just as quiet, if not more quiet, then my 25 cal PCP rifles. The Marauders were technically quiet, but I never could get rid of the high pitched "ping" sound when shooting. The 22s suppressed may technically be louder in terms of decibels, but the noise is much lower in pitch and blends in so much more with the background noise compared to the high pitched air rifle ping

  • I've got nearly double the power of the 25 cal marauder now. I was tuned to get about 40 FPE with the mrod - shooting subsonic 22LR I'm getting 70 FPE! Squirrels drop dead in their tracks, even if shot placement is not perfect

  • It seems like 25 cal pellets have gone up in price since I started the hobby in 2020. I'm looking at about 7 CPR before shipping, while I can get high quality CCI subsonic rounds for 10 CPR before shipping. At just 3 CPR difference, after shooting 1000 rounds I'm only paying 30 bucks more ($70 for one thousand pellets vs $100 for one thousand 22 bullets).

Not writing this to persuade people to leave though. There are some definite detriments to shooting 22LR Suppressed versus air rifles!

  • Gosh, this is a much dirtier hobby! I think I cleaned my Mrods maybe once a year, and that was just to keep them pristine and took maybe 10 minutes. My Ruger 10/22 has just 500 rounds suppressed through it and the thing is absolutely caked in nasty lead gunk. The rifle, the suppressor, and even the magazines will need fully taken apart and scrubbed here really soon. Hands are constantly dirty with lead after handling the rifle.

  • Not only is shooting dirty, but the casings everywhere is something I hadn't thought about. I'm constantly picking up casings when shooting off the porch or indoors, and gave up on picking them up outside on the gravel patio or in the woods. Brass everywhere! Obviously no casing when dealing with pellets.

  • It honestly may be too much power at times now. Shooting at my backstops originally designed for air rifles with 22LR is resulting in them falling apart pretty quickly now. Dirt is getting majorly chewed up, and when I skim a steel target, I hear the bullet ricochet which makes me a bit nervous.

  • 22LR has almost no recoil, and with good quality ammo/rifles you can get great accuracy! However, none of my rifles will ever beat the Marauder. My mrod had zero recoil and pinpoint accuracy. I was able to get 0.25" groups at 50 yards no problem (0.5 MOA). The 22s are awesome and still good enough for my purposes, but I'm at 1.25 MOA with my best one with a scope, which is over double the group size of the mrod's.

  • This hasn't really applied in my life yet, but one thing I will miss is the secrecy/innocence of shooting an air rifle. If a neighbor ever questioned me, I could claim I'm just shooting a pellet gun. Likewise, I could bring the mrod into town and shoot a nuisance pest or just plink a bit and legally I was OK. Definitely can't discharge my 22 in town!

So that is where I'm at. I much prefer shooting 22LR suppressed but will always miss and be thankful for the PCP air rifle hobby. Funny enough, my two buddies who also have 22 suppressors shoot their air rifles much more often than 22 suppressed, so it just goes to show that both are really similar and great hobbies and it's just up to preference and what your situation necessitates. Thanks for reading.

Gamo Urban

Hey all, does anyone have mods/links for upgrade parts for the urban? Better bolt handle, best place to stick a stud for a single point sling, maybe a different barrel without the pickle?
