Can you fire modern 45-70 out of it or only in the reproductions?
Been wanting to get into blackpowder for a couple years now, had always kind of had my eye on Hawkens as I was obsessed with Jeremiah Johnson as a kid lol. I’ve finally decided I’m gonna get a Kibler Woodsrunner .54 cal kit to build out and get into it, maybe get the Kibler Hawken down the road when it comes out, but it seems like a good idea to get a flintlock first so I can shoot whether caps are available or not. I’ve seen a couple posts or comments where people say they use 3f for both the main charge and the pan, is this fairly common in a flintlock? If I can I’d like to just use 3f as I want to order a cap and ball revolver as well, seems simpler to just use/stock one powder across the board. Should I also order some 2f to try in the rifle or is the accuracy difference marginal? Also it seems the consensus is that Swiss is superior to goex, how is schuetzen quality compared to goex, seems like a good compromise price wise. Would appreciate any insight on the topic you have.
I have a 1862 snub nose army I’m wondering if this is the right conversion kit
I recently purchased my first flintlock gun. (Pedersoli Brown Bess carbine. Love it!) As the Flint gets shorter from use and sharpening. Can I move the Flint further out of the jaws to make up the length? Maybe put some sort of spacer behind it? Obviously it wouldn't work forever. The Flint would be too small to hold.
I’ve seen plenty of black powder kits, and I know there are places that sell individual parts, but wondering if anyone does, for example, a trigger, lock, barrel and breech plug combo for people who want to craft their own stock, trigger guard, etc. from scratch. Obviously not a good place to start with kit building, but I’m just curious if it exists.
Does anyone know the make of it. It has no stamps or any writings on it.
I know western matchlock and flintlock reproductions are a pretty strong market but is there one for eastern matchlocks? Although I do see jezails, toradar, and tanegashimas pop up on gunbroker majority are unfireable because they are clearly 200 plus years old with little maintenance or 3k plus for working order. I read a while ago that alot of tourists in the middle east will buy jezails and import them and theres a ton of counterfeits. Even with counterfeits, I dont really see them anywhere. Wondering if theres a site or a way to purchase a reproduction of an eastern matchlock? I assume not but still want to ask lol.
If I wanted to carry a rifle what caliber would be effective for cougars and black/brown bears? I see .44 and .56 I think? But would it need to be bigger?
So I milled the powder from before, 5 hours. The burn time on the powder is still… bad. It’s very much as powder as powder can be. But it still just burns. I’m wondering if the scale I got measured the ingredients wrong. I made a new batch today and will mill and try it out tomorrow. Till then, here’s a video. Any ideas cusswords or comments welcome. I wonder if the powder is meant to be… that grey. Again this powder is serpentine, so it is a dry mix.
20 years waiting and I finally bloody did it. Gentlemen, may I present to you, the Baker Rifle.
Confusion to the French!
