I'm not affiliated in any way, just stumbled on this link from a forum post. In my opinion it's a pretty cool way to add a better front sight and bayonet lug to the older Minis. Looks like they only have them with a blued finish but I'm going to try nickel plating mine to get it close to matching a stainless finish.
Does anyone have experience with a mini in 300 blkout shooting subs with a suppressor? I was shooting hornady 190 subs but they don’t cycle the action. Are there subs that will work or do need to get an adjustable gas block? The video I saw from Ruger said if you shoot subs with a suppressor it should cycle whole reason I bought the damn gun.
Finished modifications on my Type 56 SKS bandolier. Now a functional Mini 14 chest rig. Holds six 20 rd mags and two GP pouches.
Has anyone tried this stock? It’s tempting
First shots right out the box and it was dialed in. After about 100rds I noticed I wasn’t so accurate. When I got home I noticed the sight wiggling around like a joystick. Going to upgrade to the tech sights soon. Any recommendations on scopes or red dots? Definitely enjoying my purchase!
I’m about to pick up a Mini 14 Tactical and while I love the 16in threaded barrel, I’m not a fan of the polymer style stock. Does anyone know where I can order a new wood stock for it?
Just bought two plastic stripper clip spoons from Cogburn Arsenal and regret it. I tried using USGI stripper clips and one went through fine and the second stripper clip sheared the teeth off of the clip spoon. The same thing happened on the other clip. Maybe they work fine with thermold clips but if you plan on using USGI clips find a different spoon. Also not only do the teeth of the spoon shear easily by they don’t stay in the groove of the magazine and will fall off if you don’t constantly hold it on the magazine. Does anyone know of a stripper clip spoon that actually works? I think I saw a metal one at some point that was out of production and I know about the maglula but I’ve heard it’s flimsy.
Haven't had one since the 80's. Bought this one last month.
Has anyone else lost theirs? I'm probably going to remember them next time I'm at a hardware store but for now I have a dab of loctite holding the screws on the sides of the stock in place. I haven't had the washers since the gun was given to me but the loctite is pretty silly because the screws are too long to be screwed in all the way without the washer. I consider this to be a minor design flaw.
Maybe a long time fav discussion for Mini14 but what, if any, ammo combos or anything has everyone been finding with improving accuracy.
With brand new Mini14, not broke in or shot much yet of course, but it's got flyers breaking up any groupings, at all distances beyond 100y. Really haven't focused closer, outside of getting on paper.
Does anyone know the muzzle energy (ft-lbs) of a 62gr 5.56 round fired out of a 18.5” barrel Mini 14 ranch rifle?
I would like to know because I am thinking of hunting hog with it, but the state that I live in only allows 1200 ft-lbs or greater muzzle energy to hunt hog.
TIA.
I've had my 584 Mini-14 for about 6 years. What is driving me crazy is that my open sights including the original & replacement Tech Sights are shifted to the right to 75% or so. I assume it is within Ruger spec but it drives me nuts. You can see the misalignment as you look down the sight.
I know I can send it to Ruger & get if fixed, but I'm wondering if the non-adjustable front sight can be adjusted to compensate for this. I'm sure a gunsmith can handle this rather than sending it back to Ruger. Has anyone had the same experience & maybe a suggestion of what could possibly be wrong here.
Is there somewhere to find a gas block top plate for a series 180xxx mini14?
You guys might like this video.
I've had this 583 series mini 14 9 years and I just changed the gas bushing to an adjustable port, I think I said that correctly...The rifle had such a kick, I hadn't been able to shoot for a few years because of bulging discs in my neck and slightly pinched nerves. It's my 1st rifle and I haven't done a field strip yet, just bore cleaning and grease the slide and oil where needed. I was just lucky to find out information on changing the gas bushing port to fix bad recoil. I got an adjustable that was pre set for 580+. Changed the parts and the rifle is smooth now. Where after 20 rounds I was beat up. I popped off 40 rounds and no sweat..Anyway I got home and was just inspecting the breach because my very 1st round at the range, the 1st round I would be defending my home with, was a dud. I'm not even sure of the brand, could be hornady...I re-racked the arm, the round popped out.I inspect everything, I'm like WTF, is everything tight, I know everything is tight. I can see a nice dent in the round so the pin hit it good. I keep my ammo at room temp, dry... Everything else fired fine, it was just that 1st round. I get home and inspect everything, I swab the breach, and there's dark oil or grease on the swab. I have to wipe it quite a few more times to clean it dry...Thing is I start noticing shiny brass colored slives , tiny but shiny, maybe 20 specs...Is that normal. Could that have been happening when I had the wrong sized port hole to the gas bushing, when I was getting that strong kick? I don't buy cheap ammo...I just don't want a fail when my life is on the line..Thanks, new here..
This is my rifle there are many like it but this one is mine
I keep seeing pretty conflicting answers. What do the mini guys say.
Just waiting on the replacement screws for my Hannibal rail and then ill be done changing it for the time being.
Every so often I'll fire a round. Goes bang but leaves a bunch of smoke around the receiver. I check for barrel obstructions but it's clear everytime. I've been trying to isolate which rounds do it. Since I've been watching, it seems like it's only been frontier 5.56, so far. So I can't rule out other brands yet. Could it just be an extra dirty random round? Or maybe a build up of fouling in the gas system?
Im trying to mount a Sig Sauer Tango-MSR 1-10x LPVO to a mini-thirty. The scope requires a 34mm ring.
I see a lot of options for 1in or 30mm rings. But I only see 34mm rings for the M77 that could probably fit the Mini Mounting. However, the m77 rings are rated for rimfire cartridges.
So my current options are below:
1.) Buy 34mm Pic rail ring and mount to factory pic rail that is mounted to rifle .
2.) Buy 34mm m77 rings and mount directly to rifle.
3.) Buy 1-6x 30mm tube LPVO.
I would prefer to use the 1-10x.
I intend to use this for feral pigs <200lbs@<50yd and goats<150lbs @<200yd. Oahu, HI, various biomes, dryland forest/ rain forest/ hill/ mountain terrain. Please advise me on your recommendations. Thank you.
Wanting to take this vortex 3-9 off and put it on my Ruger m77. I'm trying to decide what to do for sights on this. Part of me wants to do a lpvo of some sort but I also am thinking about getting home upgraded open sights. Anybody run a lpvo or something similar? Red dots or scout scopes are out if the question.
Looking to mount a scout scope on a 184 series Ranch that has no scope mount options on the receiver.
Were you able to get the scope mounted far enough back, as the Hannibal appears to have less rail space toward the receiver than the ultimak or amega.
What was the balance like with the scout scope mounted?
Do you have pics?
