Do you use radd.it for your subreddit? IF SO YOUR URL IS CHANGING in about 24 hours. The upside? All content to be supported.

Sometime tomorrow (when it's ready) I'm going to be making a Big Update to the radd.it plyr-- taking it out of beta and into its full release. There have been significant changes to both the plyr and the backend and some of these changes will affect how you use radd.it!

The most important of which-- radd.it/<subreddit> will no longer work!!! Instead you'll need to link to radd.it/r/<subreddit>. For a little while users will be redirected but eventually radd.it/<subreddit> will stop working entirely (and everything missing the /r/ assumed to be a redd.it shortlink ID.)

The other part that may affect how you use radd.it is that the by and key parameters will no longer be available. This sucks as it means no building playlists by genre or user-- for now! This functionality will be return in the not-too-distant future but using a syntax that's more consistent with the rest of the site. (Trust me, you're gonna like it.)

The good news is that reddit-searches will now work on radd.it, so you can still customize your playlist by title, submitter, or selftext.

Apologies for the loss of functionality but it'll all return once it's rewritten! You know, magically rewritten by those elves that come out of my shoes while I sleep. They're stinky elves. I think they have athlete's body.

Stay tuned.

Taking a break for the holidays. Will be working on the network again very soon!

Sorry for the lack of activity lately. I've been visiting with family and Christmas shopping, so I've had less time to devote to reddit. Rest assured when the holiday break is over, I am going to be working diligently to add more subreddits to the network.

Happy Holidays!

The Mosh Pit v1.1 - An updated, alphabetized list of subreddits; introducing version numbers.

So it occurred to me last night that it was going to be extremely difficult to make sure all of the network subreddits have the most current drop-down menu. An easy way to fix this problem is to use version numbers. I put the most popular subreddit(s) of the genre at the top of the list, and then alphabetized the rest. If you consider the original list to be "v1.0", then this new list will be "v1.1". I also combined the "Hardcore" and "Punk" tabs into a single tab called "Hardcore/Punk". Rock and Metal were so much longer than Hardcore and Punk, so this makes all three lists about the same length. We can split them again later if necessary. I also updated the bands list to show bands that have joined the network, but obviously every subreddit's list of bands will be different.

If you know of any related subreddits we missed, either leave a comment in this thread, or message the mods.

Here are the new subreddits that were added to the list in v1.1:

###Rock

  • /r/adifferentspin
  • /r/blues
  • /r/classicpsych
  • /r/girlrock
  • /r/glamrock
  • /r/indie
  • /r/indiefolk
  • /r/krautrock
  • /r/postrock
  • /r/progrockmusic
  • /r/shoegaze
  • /r/spacerock
  • /r/womenrock

###Metal

  • /r/atmosphericmetal
  • /r/circusmetal
  • /r/djent
  • /r/findnewmetal
  • /r/heavyvinyl
  • /r/ladiesofmetal
  • /r/metalballads
  • /r/nwobhm
  • /r/postmetal
  • /r/stonermetal
  • /r/truemetal

###Hardcore/Punk

  • /r/90spunk
  • /r/christcore
  • /r/hardcoremusic
  • /r/localpunkmusic
  • /r/punkrockin
  • /r/punkvinyls
  • /r/riotgrrl
  • /r/sludge
  • /r/weedpunk

If you know of any I missed, please let me know!

Make sure you save your individual subreddit's "Bands" list, since every subreddit is different!

To update your subreddit, delete the old list, and copy/paste this into your sidebar:

radd.it radio available for all subreddits in the MPN!

(A quick qualifier: not available for band-specific subreddits. At least, not yet.)

Greetings mods and modettes! I'm the guy behind r/listentous and the creator of radd.it. "What the what is radd.it?" you may be asking yourself. It's a radio/ music player that I created with reddit in mind. A few of its features:

  • Uses reddit title to determine the artist, album, and song
  • Displays artist image, album artwork, and a bio about the artist
  • Allows direct voting on post, displays reddit comments
  • Playlists defaults to reddits "hot" ranking but can also be loaded by new, top (by time period), or random
  • Playlists sortable manually or automatically by OP, release date, more

You can browse all subreddits in the network at radd.it/themoshpit or any single subreddit at radd.it/<subreddit>. See this post for how to browse multiple combinations at once or load playlists other than the default.

radd.it works differently than the other online players in that subreddits must be set-up before it recognizes them-- but if you're a part of the Mosh Pit Network then you're ready to go! (I'll try to keep up with new subreddits as their added, but please message me directly if I miss any.) If you're interested in updates about the player or have requests/ suggestions, please join r/RadioReddit.

Please encourage your users to format post titles appropriately! Posters (and those marked as editors by that subreddits mods) can fix the artist, album, and song data if radd.it gets it wrong, but everyone benefits if you mods encourage songs to be posted with a title similar to "Artist Name -- Song Name [genre/ genre] (year) <extra text is ok after genre tags>" or at the very least "Artist Name - Song Name".

Here are all the MPN subreddits currently set up with radd.it:
