A place to share and discover new (and old) music that seems to fly under the radar.
Welcome to the indie rock subreddit! We're all about sharing and discussing new and old music that seems to fly under the radar. Artists that aren't necessarily affiliated with independent record labels, but still align with the indie rock genre (like Arcade Fire and The Shins) are also very welcome here.
Self promotion is welcome.
News articles, album reviews, and other discussion posts are encouraged.

I'm trying to practise producing for other bands,, if you are able to put up a mic or make a recording of any kind and send stem tracks to me, I will do a full mix and master of one song FOR FREE no strings. I just really would like the practise. If you want to hear how my stuff sounds listen to "Vanilla Franco" on Spotify or Apple. I'm more of a hard rock guy but I will do literally anything, if you don't like it, don't use it! Lemme know
I need 100 indie/alternative album recommendations from the years 2001 to 2006 (I’ve already covered 2000 but if you have something great from 2006, I’d be willing to give it a listen).
Short background info; I basically slept on western music through the 00’s. I was primarily listening to either Japanese rock or Americana through that period. I got into a handful of groups I caught live, but for the most part I have a giant, 6 year blind spot in my musical history that I’d like to fill.
I’ve made Indie lists for every year since 2006 and want to extend back to 2001. If you want an idea about my tastes, you can pull up any of my indie lists, listen to the first 20 songs and know what I’m looking for.
I’m open to just about anything that falls under the indie/alternative umbrella labels with one caveat: I don’t mind groups with strong pop sensibilities, but I don’t want pop groups hiding behind the façade of another genre (and if you understand the difference, we can be friends).
I’m not looking for the big names, the more obscure the better. I’ll gladly accept any of the following:
Shoegaze
Post Punk
Noise Pop
Noise Rock
Post Rock
Punk
Indie pop (as long as it’s more indie than pop)
Post Hardcore
Stoner Rock
Psychedelic
Folk and Post Folk
Americana (probably heard it, but you might surprise me)
Emo (if it’s not too slick or whiney – yeah, I know)
Dream pop
Lo-fi
Jangle Pop
Garage Rock
International groups
The more obscure the better, don’t be afraid to recommend those lesser known favorites.
What I’m not looking for:
Metal: I love post hardcore and stoner rock, but not really in the market for metal right now.
Pop Punk – love punk; if they’re influenced by the first few British and American waves. Unless they’re doing something completely different or amazing, I don’t need any of the 1000 Green Day meets Pinkerton inspired bands from that period.
Pop Emo or Pop Indie – I don’t mind the small groups, but not interested in the more popular, commercial acts. Not into Fallout Boy or My Chemical Romance and don’t want lesser known groups that sound like them.
What I do like is At the Drive In, Appleseed Cast, Texas is the Reason, Pink Spiders or Pilot to Gunner. So anything in that grange would be great.
Playlists unless they can be downloaded in MP3 form - I won't be using spotify to listen to these albums.
Thanks! Got a lot of great suggestions last time, so I’m looking forward to everyone’s recommendations!
Folk Machi is the alternative indie rock project of Indian music composer Sakshin Mohan. The first self-titled album has eight songs about life, love and how all of us may merely be a speck in the universe but still have stories to tell.
NEW ALBUM “DEV♡TION” | VALENTINES DAY 2025
It’s about a guy going between various fever dreams. Gonna try make it flow perfectly, nonagon infinity style, minus the loop and the six other guys. Wrote most of it last night, gonna try include some songs I’ve already recorded.
Gear:
I borrowed a 2-input Focusrite interface from a friend, as well as two SM50-somethings (the ones with the covers) but one of them is a knockoff.
Recording into my Asus Vivobook laptop via Reaper.
I’m also borrowing his peavey 80 watt amp
I have two mic stands, one which I position where a right rack Tom would go over the bass drum.
The other mic I move around from being a vocal mic, a snare mic, and an amp mic.
I’m playing a PDP MainStage kit, with a zildjian S medium thin crash as a crash/ride, sabian B8 rock hats, and an Sabian AAX omni 18” crash. Most shells have Evan’s G2 heads in them except the snare, which has whatever I could find after it broke.
I’m using a HH Sonic Series Squier Mustang (pink) going through a BD2, a big muff, a flamma fc05, a DD7 and a M Vave Mini Universe.
Going for a Ty Segall/Osees sound.
About to lay down the drums for the first track.
Anyone wanna suggest a weird word or lyric I should include?
Found these guys through a friend, pretty neat atmospheric vibe, some complex stuff too.
Please can anyone tell me what song this is? I’ve tried Shazam but it doesn’t work.
Hi troops, I've been looking for a band I used to listen to when younger but I'm afraid I cannot remember their name or the name of any of their songs 😅
I believe they were from California or similar, mid to late 00s. Guitarist used a squier supersonic I think, a very sanitised At The Drive In look to them. Songs were about youth, partying and all that jazz. The album cover was white with a black and white photo of the band playing.
I'm aware this is incredibly vague but if anyone has any ideas I'd love to hear them!
Hey y’all! Here’s a song/demo I’ve been working on for awhile and I wanted to see what you guys thought of it. https://on.soundcloud.com/KMvyNVtDuurT4Gdh8 It’s an acoustic semi-indie lo-fi track with lots of vocal layering. The mixing is a bit amateur/off but I’m just a twenty-something in a tiny room with a shitty laptop
Thank you all, Madrigold
not sure if this is the right place
