    Definition from Urban Dictionary

Djent is used to describe a certain kind of guitar tone characterized when a two-octave power chord is palm-muted; a "djent" sound is created rather than the typical chunkier (chug chug chug) sound.

Djent also refers to repeated staccato playing of the lowest-pitch string on a detuned 6 string or 7 string guitar with a powerful attack such that the string goes very slightly sharp upon the pick's release from the string. Lower-gauge strings are used to facilitate this.

Djent tone is many times created using a Line 6 amp modeling product such as the Pod series or the Axe-Fx. When possible, an amp model such as the Big Bottom or Modern High Gain on these devices is used in conjunction with a modeled Tube Screamer in front. Engl and Mesa amplifiers are typically used when tube amplification is preferred.

Djent is widely acknowledged to have come first from Meshuggah, but Misha 'Bulb' Mansoor has arguably popularized the sound. Djent's typical uses give rise to a "genre" of djent that is characterized by hi-fi compressed production, polyrhythmic/staccato distorted riffs and ambient clean passages which make liberal use of 9 and other "jazzy" chords. Electronica influences such as glitchy percussion and synthesizers are also incorporated.

Ufoufoufo - Ufoufo2: Hominid Catharsis ... I'm fairly inspired by Veil Of Maya's Marc Okubo. This is my solo project! Full of tasty riffs and insane odd time sigs

How do I make riffs like Erra and Periphery?

I am trying to write cool low tuned stuff but I can't seem to figure out how to add little "shreds" in between chugs like in 22 Faces by Periphery and stuff like the Cloud Cascade riff by Invent Animate. Are these scales or do I need to learn lots more music theory?

    These are some examples

I'm so stuck I had to make a reddit post about it because I can't seem to find a way to figure this out.
All I end up doing is chugging with some dissonant chords in between but it just sounds so boring.

    Where are the djent pianists?

    Looking for recommendations!

I鈥檝e listened to a lot of Tigran Hamasayan, but I haven鈥檛 really found other artists that sound similarly.

Looking for a guitar to play Sleep Token, 7 or 8 strings? Or Baritone 6 string?

If I go for a baritone 6 string what length would I need? I also assume I'd need a pitch shifter, just hoping there's someone here that is knowledgeable in what I'd need to get the job done as I really want to play the riffs in Alkaline and Take Me Back To Eden, and I know even with 8 strings it's a double drop E anyway

    Help With strings (squier baritone)

So i recently bought a second hand jazzmaster baritone (30 inch scale) and im looking for strings that would work in low e1 or d1 tuning. Ernie balls 6 string bass guitar strings should work in theory (it has 159,5 lbs overall on stringjoys string calculator). Has anyone Used that kit? or do you guys recommend other types of strings?

    All help is appreciated!
