Might sound silly, but I do wonder if some fellas out there have decided to do that. If so, send em here
Are there any of you who know (and maybe like) Ice Nine Kills and have any prog recommendations in that style?
I love prog and love the theatrical, dramatic, sometimes even musical-like music of Ice Nine Kills, mainly anything from Every Trick in the Book and later.
Thanks!
This was a good thing to wake up to
Straight into the music, basically no breaks, almost zero talking. Sounded so tight and the lighting was killer.
I made a post a few days ago asking for your favorite or your own underground/unknown bands (under 5000 monthly listeners) and received over 100 recommendations, and over 11 hours of music.
Here is the spotify playlist for anyone looking to explore and support these bands.
Also to note; it is not exclusively prog metal, there is quite a bit of variation between each song.
If anyone has more suggestions, i will gladly add them to the playlist
I'm thinking of the sort of sound I associate with some late 90s/early 00s bands like Incubus or Linkin Park.
I just recently started listening to Soen. I listened to Fraccions and thought "wow this is sick". Then I listened to some of their newest album and that stuff isn't really progressive at all. When and why did they decide to stop making progressive music? Did they take all that "Tool ripoff" criticism to heart? I'm a big fan of Martin Lopez from his Opeth days and I'll check out anything he does, but that new stuff is way too melodic and formulaic for me, not a fan at all.
Just learned Acoustic Electric guitars and I wanted to see if any of you know any good bands that utilize this style! Bonus points if it also has Acoustic Electric Bases if that exists
Heyo, it’s me, that guy who makes AMVs set to prog metal again!
I’ve wanted to do something with this song since at least 2020 because it just does things to me. Disillusion’s recently become one of my favorite bands so this song was fresh on my mind at the start of the year, and I’d recently just watched this anime, so the stars aligned in my head.
Context: Mononoke is an artsy psychological horror anime in which people’s inner turmoil and traumas manifest as reality-bending monsters, and a figure known only as the “medicine seller” frees them from their suffering by exorcising them. The dark extreme nature of the show balanced with its more tranquil naturalistic visual vibes felt like a perfect match for this song to me.
Important to note that I did not use the entire 12-minute song for this edit, only the final third of it, the part I was most excited about and was best able to structure a video around. The intention was to edit it so that there is a gradual rise in intensity throughout the video that never dips down, only up. I mixed all 5 arcs of the show together to create as unsettling and intense a mood as I could, that would hopefully best showcase the song. Like all my vids this is a love letter to the song and band involved, and I hope it can resonate with some people here!
Question 1) Why does the beginning of Porcelain sound so familiar? Anyone else having this issue? I have some theories as to which band might have a similar sound, but I‘d like to hear some other opinions first (if this is at all a legit enquiry and not something I‘m imagining 🤷🏼♀️🙈)…..
Question 2) that eerie guitar sound that the songs Submission and Saboteur are interspersed with….same issue as before, but still different. …..
Any help is appreciated, since it‘s like a splinter in my mind. I need to solve this riddle 🫣
When I finally get a chance to sit down and truly listen, I am overcome with gratitude about how much amazing music we have at our fingertips at the blink of an eye.
I've been loving omnerod, sunless dawn, the reticent, Astronoid, an abstract illusion, alustirium, hippotraktor, the list goes on...
Feel free to give some more recs! Or just express how music is changing your life.
Okay so I just got out of Haken’s Sydney gig after having seen Caligula’s Horse at the same venue last week…and while both bands absolutely killed it! Jim Grey is just one of the most charismatic mother fuckers on the planet and his crowd work is second to none! It brings a whole other level to the gig!!
That said, would happily see either of them (or Wheel who supported CH) again right fucking now! It’s been a good week!!!
I feel like this band doesn’t get talked about nearly enough in this sub (if at all) and I’m really curious why because I think this band is sooo good.
Is it cause people don’t really consider them prog metal? Do a lot of people just not know them, or do most people think they’re not actually that good?
Anyway just wanting to highlight one of my favorite bands that I feel doesn’t get the recognition they deserve
not really a prog metal, but close enough for me:)
As a lifelong huge Opeth fan, I know the feeling of constantly seeking out music that resonates with their unique sound. That's why I've put together this list of bands and my recommended albums that embody similar qualities to Opeth's music. Whether you're drawn to the complex arrangements of Haken or the atmospheric depth of Soen, these albums will surely quench your thirst for more Opeth-esque experiences (I hope) . I haven't forgotten about Opeth's softer side either; you'll find some lighter, more progressive rock-oriented options in the list as well.
Mix of heavy/light:
Caligulas Horse - Bloom
Piah Mater - The Wandering Daughter (this is so much like Opeth that it sounds like a unreleased album from them)
Leprous - The Congregation
Ne Obliviscaris - Portal of I
Haken - The Mountain
Orphaned Land - Unsung Prophets & Dead Messiahs
Soen - Memorial
Be'Lakor - The Frail Tide
TesseracT - War of Being
Edge of Sanity - Crimson
Alley - Amphibious
Pain of Salvation - In the Passing Light of Day
Katatonia - Sky Void of Stars
More lighter stuff:
