Greetings and welcome to /r/mathrock! Wikipedia would say it's a rhythmically complex, guitar-based style of experimental rock that emerged in the late 1980s characterized by complex, atypical rhythmic structures (including irregular stopping and starting), angular melodies, and dissonant chords. That's a pretty robotic definition of it but if you're not familiar with the genre, listen to a few of the songs posted or check out the playlists below. Enjoy!

New subgenre proposal: Meth Rock

Listening to Nuito is probably the closest way one can achieve meth status, without consuming the drug. They go hard, and make you very hyper when you're in the right mood.

Thoughts?

New mouse on the keys album dropped today! (midnight)

mouse on the keys is a Japanese post-rock trio. For 15 years, their discography doesn't miss. Check it out! Can't recommend this band enough if you like mathy piano and drum-forward business.

Their Youtube says "available on all digital platforms" - here's a link to the new vid of a song they released today as well: https://youtu.be/aM-YHYYW35I?si=VmfwUYBltDYwTB22

I only have a Spotify sub so here is the album link: https://open.spotify.com/album/7jkk5vH3oaDDAXE7OcnoPj?si=qTYQ7aT6R_6N1L8nUS0_IA

Enjoy!

Tips for better songwriting?

Any tips for better songwriting in this genre? I have a tendency to write using very uninteresting sounding chords and boring licks and I want to get better but don't know where to start, any advice?

I NEED to identify this Tera Melos song

The song is played at 6:47 on this wonderful video right here

https://youtu.be/RxE7k2TM1nE?si=PY6igJn58rl2mEbX

It doesn’t seem to be a song on their discography so it could just be unreleased but please oh lord PLEASE I hope I figure out this incredible sounding song.

Looking for song/artist that has warfare in it

Have this song stuck in my head but can’t think of the name. It’s a math rock song that I think was more low key on SoundCloud. Swear it had warfare in the name of either the song or the artist and some gunfire in the beginning. Sorry for my lack of information but I neeeed to find it !
