They’re obviously Southern. They mention the town of Guinea and oysters which leads me to believe they may be from Virginia???
I’m looking at starting a band and was hoping to find some recommendations that have a more harsh or extreme edge to sludge/doom, leaning into deathdoom territory but still firmly in the sludge camp, bands I have on the reference list so far are: Thou Primitive Man Grief Crawl Chained to the Bottom of the Ocean Floor Ilsa The Body (on occasion) Indian Toadliquor Toad Smoke Dollhaver Elizabeth Color Wheel Couch Slut (on occasion) I Exist Shingen
And maybe a few others but these are just the ones I return to, anything is helpful
Saw a picture somewhere not too long ago of a pretty distressed black cadet hat (somewhere on social media, I don’t believe it was here, I’ve looked) that had a buncha sludge patches on it. I know there was an EHG and acid bath patch for sure. Can’t seem to find it, hopefully one of you fuckers can lead me in the right direction.
So fucking goood
I've been listening to sludge metal for a little bit now, and I'm really enjoying what I've heard so far (even though I havent listened to all that much), what I've heard is in the image (I KNOW! It's not all sludge but this is just what last fm tells me is sludge) and I could use some sludge recommendations, especially some classic/essential to the genre albums
Been playing in a sludge 2 piece for 2 years with the same strings. They sound fine. But all I know about my guitar is how to play it. Never learned any maintenance stuff. Is this a case of “if ain’t broke, don’t fix it” or is there a god reason to use new strings? If this has been asked before, can someone direct me to the post?
A little bit of nasty Croatian sludge.
Another Denver, CO Heavy-Hitter….
It starts out sounding like an anti-war protest song and then slowly reveals itself to be an introspective heartbreaking anthem about empathy, inadequacy, and depression.
And coming from a band like Harvey Milk who normally sounds ugly and intentionally dense and sludgy as all fuck, it's unexpected (but not surprising) that they could write such an earnest and beautiful stoner rock masterpiece. I love this song with all my heart.
Ive never really seen a metal genre thats been around since the 90s where the bandmates/vocalists are over 40 and reportedly asking their fans for dope after shows to this day. Seems hard drug use is glorified and norm in sludge obviously but man they deserve to live better now as musical legends
Talking about buzzoven, eyehategod, acid bath i think. Huge legacies to end with a sad OD, also sucks cause how unknown sludge is, they probably get the least revenue of all heavy metal subgenres
Released today through APF RECORDS.
This is the debut album from Brit blackened sludge/doom band Praetorian.
FFO Iron Monkey, Soilent Green, Darkthrone, Neurosis, Conan, Grief, Kylesa etc.
Hope you enjoy! Let us know what you think.
