An Open Letter:
Eric Lavién here! I've tried so hard not to share the technical side of things because I thought it might be boring for you, or at least, I assumed the technical aspects might not be very exciting. However, maybe you'll find them interesting. I'm writing this post to tell you a story that begins when I started distributing my first release. I originally chose SoundCloud but since April 2024, I've moved on to what I personally consider a more professional alternative.
This isn't a critique of SoundCloud which I chose 'cause I think it's quite good afterall beside the technical support waiting times, but I've had my share of challenges with them too, from a complete lack of technical support to endless bugs (and endless nights!) all documented throughout a year, on their platform, and even months where, due to their updates and issues, I had to give away a month of subscription without being able to use their services, a situation many artists relying on SoundCloud have experienced. I encourage you to visit their public pages on all social media platforms of the distributor in question and read the public comments left by artists, most of which are complaints and generally negative towards the platform. From Instagram to 𝕏, from TikTok to Reddit.
This morning, I discovered my SoundCloud SINGLEs releases (my first release was in February 2024) was no longer available on music stores, presumably due to a recent issue they had on their platform, one of many recurring problems, at least based on my personal experience. I don't know yet!
My ALBUMs and EPs are still available on all music platforms, including the Official Music Videos that you can find on my Official Artist Channel on YouTube.
Anyway, I woke up at 4.30 AM (I literally wake up everyday at 6.00 AM starting to work as soon as the day starts!) today and reached out to Spotify for more information about the releases that were distributed through SoundCloud, since I haven't used them for releases after April 2024 due to the absence of technical support, the extremely long wait times, and the uncertainty, which pushed me toward a distributor that, in my opinion, is more professional at least in terms of assistance, technical support, and response times.
And it's been when switching to this more professional distributor that I started having the physical time to work on awesome (and Rock!) Music Videos, that you can see on my Official Artist Channel on YouTube.
Spotify's response was that the distributor had taken down my SINGLEs distributed through them, January 31st, 2025. Apparently without a valid reason, given that my earliest musical works had accumulated about 10-30 streams on Spotify up to yesterday, as I hadn't promoted them much, unlike my ALBUMs, which really Rock!!!
I tried to open a ticket with SoundCloud, but their support bot wasn't working, so I had to find a workaround to try to open a ticket, and eventually, I managed to do so.
Throughout all this, I received no explanation or reason from SoundCloud, lack of communication, and usually, based on my experience with them, communications with their technical support are merely a single email, 'cause if you reply to continue the assistance, they seem to completely ignore the emails or perhaps don't even receive them. I just wish they would fix the problem they caused.
I've always followed the guidelines and detailed rules in general, of everything, in life itself.
Imagine that, for example, my EP titled "Gravity" originally I wanted to call it "To Be Free" but SoundCloud's system warned me that the word "Free" could cause issues on certain music platforms, so I changed the title to "Gravity" and I'm very proud of this EP that I'm going to re-release in a remastered version for sure!
During my time with SoundCloud from February to April 2024, there were other incidents, like my EP "Oh Mystery" for which I hold all necessary licenses for monetization, distribution, publication, performance in public and more, SoundCloud's algorithm mistakenly claimed that "Oh Mystery" had already been registered by an unknown company with a different title. I have a background in studying piano and guitar, so I listened to the track in question, and it is completely different in style, duration, tempo, musical key, genre.
So, I initiated a dispute by sending to SoundCloud all my documentation proving my copyright and rights to my original music work and creation. But they simply responded with "at the moment we cannot reinstate the song."
I said, okay, and continued to make music, releasing ALBUMs no longer through SoundCloud. But now, some time has passed since February 2024, and I find myself dealing with yet another problem created by SoundCloud, without any explanation, warning, or notification. Nothing. And probably there will not even be a valid explanation.
I'm doing this post not just for me, but during my musical ride, I saw many small artists, a lot of small artists, independent artist, dealing with such issues, and these things really impacts the creative works of each individual.
So I'm doing this for all the small musicians that had a very hard time with SoundCloud and they're quite a lot, across all social I mentioned.
Beside this, I invite you to dive with me in this adventure, by checking my Socials mostly on Threads, here on 𝕏, YouTube and to see my interactions with the public. I always put my heart first, then the music.
It's a wild, wild world. But for sure I focus on music and art, is what I do best, keeping the flame alive!
Art is not meant to be silenced, but to be shared.

I went to a show the other day and some guys play this song live they're pretty good ngl!! https://linktr.ee/lovejaneband
Anyone has any Indian Indie recommendations? I personally like this guy called Akshath. But any other artists to look out for besides him?
new Bopper Brothers music video! This song is heavily inspired by Pink Floyd and other early 70’s/late 60’s psychedelic and progressive sounds. I also edited the music video, which is a psychedelic art film featuring many different clips and references. It’s very cool; I hope some of y’all will check it out!
My new song is out now 🔊 Let me hear your thoughts!
I created a YouTube Docuseries for an up and coming Philly band, Stella Ruze. The Docuseries covers the band in the studio recording their now newly released album 'Origin'. I spent time with them from late 2023 until their album release show in 2024!
Hi everyone! Looking for playlists that include smaller/indie artists on Spotify! It would be greatly appreciated if you could comment a link to them. I am craving new music and to reach out to playlist curators for my own music. Thank you!
