Seen a lot of other subs doing this lately, Figured I'd get a definitive r/PostHardcore band rankings going for us. All you need to do is post 20 of your favorite Post Hardcore bands (in no order, I will only be using total votes for each band, not how high they were ranked in each posters top 20) I did a quick search on the sub and I think this is something that hasn't been done yet. If this goes well we can do top 20 albums/songs/etc.
Figure I'll leave this going for 3 or 4 days to get a bunch of replies, then I'll do a top 16 bracket and eliminate 1 band per day till we get our definitive r/PostHardcore favorite band rankings. For criteria I guess as long as the band has done at least one album that classifies as PHC they're fair game.
Please no hating on others for not having your favorite band in their top 20 or criticising their overall choices. Let's have fun with this.
Mexican progressive post hardcore for fans of “swancore” . Jose Macario is leading the progressive scene in Mexico right now, he’s in a heavier band called ladrones as well .
We had a new guitarist join the band. He cleaned up. Seriously though, are there many examples of sweeping and intense guitar like this throughout post hardcore or does it sit more in the metalcore realm?
I know some of you guys on here like us so I thought I'd make a post here in case y'all missed it! Here's the poster with the list of dates, we're super excited to get out there and play new music. Would love to see you out there if you've heard of us (or if you haven't but like what you hear). Be well everybody

Not sure if this question has been asked before, but I’m genuinely curious. My wife listens to mostly country and pop but I’m actually pretty blessed to have her because she goes to shows with me and has even gotten into some of the bands I listen to. And she doesn’t care what kind of music I put on. She’s the best in all kinds of ways. Before we got married I really only dated people that had the same interest of music as me. What do you guys do if your partner doesn’t like your music? Does it matter to you? Or is it a deal breaker?
https://youtu.be/3wQTBtpHkx8?si=78C_WAr20kU3UCAt I absolutely love this ... Any recommendations like this track?
Pierce the Veil got its name from a professor is class who used the term in class
Scary Kids Scaring Kids is a reference to a song title by emo band Cap’n Jazz
So I really haven’t heard much post-hardcore that I really love other than this album, which is one of my favourite albums of all time. Can anyone recommend something similar, because I’ve always wanted to find more music like this.
Remember the one time I&G did a live show? Everything about this video is perfection. It’s the whole warped tour scene in 6 minutes. (Me and the PHC homies with a Time Machine)
Roses for the Dead by Funeral for a Friend
I’m kinda curious what’s out there chances are I may know the band but it would be interesting to see what vocalists in the scene can match the range of him and what could be like if Steve Perry played post hardcore the dude had incredibly range so no doubt he’d be able to sing this genre of music it seems like Kellin Quinn and Anthony Green seem to get close as I’ve heard a lot of there stuff
I’ve noticed there’s not many Japanese band mentions other than Envy so I made a little list of some smaller underrated ones if anyone’s interested (all are on Spotify idk about other platforms)
Pray for my past, A curtain of mist, m!sa ,Wailing Aries, Lenoria, Marching fur seals, Haze of the bullet blossom, Changeless, Blind owl, Fake island, Lost my proust, Sightbacks, Olpheus, Angers, Squall of scream, Duallnsomina, Eversolitude, Solitude a sleepless nights, Sheesawharm, Beyond sorrow, Calls name again, Field of forest, Laika, Telecide
Was anyone else as pretentious growing up and refused to branch out to different genres because we were different and knew we listened to good music compared to the average person?! Admittedly I was that guy haha. I still know so many people who are stuck in the genre and will probably never listen to any other genre unfortunately.
That being said, my question is; what specific artist/band made you realize that it’s okay to branch out of Post Hardcore? Even if it’s a guilty pleasure that you don’t tell anyone, this is a safe place haha. Post hardcore is still my favorite, but I’m glad I have an open mind now when it comes to music.
For me there was 3 artists who I really enjoyed listening to behind closed doors at the time, until I realized it’s okay to listen to other genres and it shouldn’t matter. I know it’s stupid to think like this but I know so many people who judge people for the music they listen to. So much good music out there it’s addicting. So these are the 3 who paved the way for me!
John Mayer- He’s incredibly talented especially on the guitar. Lyrically he’s insane, all of his albums are amazing. To each their own obviously but he’s mainstream and respected for a reason.
Kendrick Lamar- I didn’t care about rap/hiphop until I actually listened to Kendrick. To Pimp a Butterfly was my introduction and immediately became a fan. I didn’t know music could be portrayed like that. His lyrics are very intricate and he knows how to deliver a message, while simultaneously making it catchy.
Sade- Her music is timeless. She’s one of those artists that you hate you never listened to before. Jazzy type music with her soulful voice is the epitome of what music should look like, meaning; I’d show Aliens her music so they know we as humans made something special.
These are just the artists who paved the way for me. Post Hardcore made me love music so I’m thankful I’m able to see music for what it is. It’s art. And how ever you want it to be.
I’m curious to hear everyone out! Drop your experiences and thoughts please 🙏🏾
Personally for me I gotta go no members but that’s just me
I feel like this band and especially this album is slept on.
I'm trying to find some bands or albums that sound like early electric callboy or Iwrestledabearonce some metal core that's also a lil goofy any good suggestions?
There are few phrases and sentences that I can put together to perfectly describe this album. It's sound is like trying to explain what an apple tastes like to someone who has never had an apple. If you have never heard it, please do so, the worst-case scenario is you don't like it and don't listen to it again. I'm doing this review because it seems like fun, and I would like to share my opinions about this awesome album. If this is well received, I may do something similar with another album or EP.
Vocals:
The vocals on this album are just plain incredible. Jordan Dreyer's vocal style is highly expressive and very raw. He switches between spoken word and almost anguished shouts in a very smooth way. His voice is pure emotion and fits the instrumentals seamlessly. While his "whiny" vocal style definitely isn't for everyone, it is for me, and this is my review. His voice can only be described in the phrase, "Fuck yes."
Lyrics:
Do I even need to state how awesome the lyrics are? Jordan Dreyer's lyrics are the heart of the album. His delivery alternates between urgent, spoken-word passages and angry, sad, urgent, and anguished shouts. Songs like "King Park" and "Edward Benz, 27 Times" are notable for their intense lyrics. These lyrics aren't painting a picture, they are filming a movie. Listening to the lyrics close makes it nearly impossible to not imagine these situations in your head. Every song is a poem, and every song is a damn near masterpiece. The delivery of the lyrics is incredible as well, nothing can describe it.
Instrumentals:
Jordan's lyrics and vocals might be the soul, but the instrumentals are the body. The guitar sobs, the drums scream, the bass wails, and they all come together to form something incredible. It's the perfect balance between heavy and soft. Edward Benz immediately comes to mind when talking about instrumentals, with it being a song I've had on repeat for a week for the instrumentals. Everything matches Jordan's energy so well and pairs with his voice even better, this shit is epic.
Production:
The production on Wildlife is raw yet polished. It sounds like they recorded the entire album live in the studio, and seeing videos of some of the songs live, it's very possible. There really isn't much to say production wise, or not really much I can say because I'm not very knowledgeable on what I am supposed to be listening for. The album sounds great, and that's all I need to say.
Other Random Notes:
The ending of king park is some of the most intense music I've ever heard, and I get goosebumps every time I hear it.
The repeated use of "Tell me..." in all our bruised bodies is something I wait for every time I hear it, and I love that song so much because of it
This Album is some of the rawest post hardcore I've ever heard, and I love it so much
**Top 3 Songs:**
Overall Score: 10/10
I listened to eyes set to kill and versa emerge for the first time in a while and forgot how good they both were. Anyone wanna fill me in on other woman fronted acts that i might’ve missed out on? I’d really appreciate it
