My brother and I loved Dragon Warrior but we always rented it from a local store. Now, 35 years later I am the owner of DW. yessssss
Just so much charm.
Hello, looking for these 3 games CIB, Does anyone have a lead on their local game store or suggestions of where to buy them?
Athletic World (original or big box) Chubby Cherub M.U.S.C.L.E Ninja Kid
So happy to finally have this trilogy completed. Also can’t believe I found the Ninja Gaiden Shadow for GB in the wild been looking for it for 8 months now!
I just learned two days ago a lone ranger game exists and it's...good? Konami was on a hot streak back then
Hey everyone, I'm contemplating purchasing Action 52 on NES. The only way I play NES games is the Super Retro Trio +. All the other unlicensed games I own (games by Wisdom Tree, American Game Cartrudges Inc and HES) all work flawlessley on it, but I have heard that Action 52 is a bit buggy and the lockout chip spark makes the NES smell like it's melting after an hour, so I just wanted to check before I potentially make purchase, as it isn't the cheapest game on the system. Also the game in pics looks bigger than other NES games but that might just be the pics I've seen. Thank you.
My modded nes has been having issues the last week or so where the picture had been becoming more and more buggy and leaving spermatic noise patterns. Now when I try to power on the console all I get is a white screen a loud beeping noise and no power to the power LED on the front. If anyone has any ideas on what could be the issue please let me know. Thanks
Hi all, i am looking to remember the name of a game, where can be played coop, where you need collect some kind of gold bars and you can move arround a map in a top-down view (not sidescroll) and at some point of the run not only spawn ninja enemies, spawn ghost/demons enemies too. i think the players characters dont see like the tipicall ninja, if not with the samurai hairstyle.
thanks in advance for the helpthanks in advance for the help
All those years ago, coming home from school each day to explore the magical world of Hyrule that only existed inside of a computer and in my imagination. i knew that other people were playing it too, but my favorite part about Hyrule is that no other humans are there. This is my world. I am the main character of this story!
I kind of forgot about video games for a while. I had tried a couple of other zelda games at a friend's house, but i always felt like i was being told what to do. I hate "tutorials" at the beginning of the game.
Maybe i feel like it is an insult to my intelligence?
Like, i was 10 years old and i was given a sword by a man in a cave in the middle of the forest, and i figured it out all by myself.
They put a map in the box but they didn't finish drawing it. Fine! I'll just figure it out myself!
There's an invincible enemy that just says "GRUMBLE, GRUMBLE", and blocks my way with no further instructions? I will just keep exploring the world and learing how it functions until i have an answer.
The Pandemic hit, and i returned to LOZ on emulator, finally completing the "second quest" as well (walls you can walk through? Fine, i'll figure it out!)
Finally i bought a Nintendo Switch and "Breath of the Wild". I was blown away! I had been dropped right back in the middle of the forest, and there was nothing to do except whatever i want to!
The first image was me using a ROM playing on openemu on mac. The second image is from playing in browser on a website, but it looks the same as when I was playing on FCEUX on my windows PC, with the same ROM as before.
I played through the game on both instances, and the one in the second image looks worse, and I'm pretty sure doesn't look quite like how the game is supposed to look, but I could be wrong. Does anybody know why this is a thing? Thanks
That game is just so frigging good. It's a favorite person v comp or person versus person fighting game (other than Punch Out) for me.
I love the intensity of buttom mashing, the throwing opponent out of the ring, the jumping on opponent, the moved. So intense.
What other NES games rival it? I'd like to check them out.
Just recently bought an NES and am starting to build a small collection. Not trying to go after any rare games for now but rather just build a decent size library.

F, P, H are white, G, 9, J, O are red, and S is yellow.
Are these possibly from Faxanadu or Swords and Serpents, or possibly even Wizards and Warriors?
Haven’t tried either yet, but I have a feeling one may be significantly better than the other
Something about Halloween I always like to play the NES and SNES, I’d like some suggestions from you about what games you like to play around Halloween. I play on a SNES Mini (NES, SNES and GBA titles) and a Delta Emulator on iPhone with an 8BitDo SN30 so I can do pretty much any games. I’ve bought almost every “modern” NES rom; such as Dungeons and Doomknights, Micro Mages, etc. I was thinking of playing Halloween 85’ but would love to hear everyone’s go to NES or SNES Halloween plays. Here’s what’s on my radar: NES: Halloween 85’ Castlevania I, II (redacted) and III Dungeons and Doomknights Fester’s Quest Little Nemo Dreammaster Monster in My Pocket SNES: Castlevania IV Nosferatu King of Demons Demon’s Quest Super Ghosts and Goblins
I am not afraid of save states so difficult games are not a problem.
EDIT: I have bought Full Quiet on Steam, $9.99, (so I didn’t feel bad downloading the rom) and have put the rom on my SNES Mini to try. So far it is a quality NES game. I also added Monster Party and Maniac Mansion to try.
EDIT: Please keep the suggestions coming, this is turning into a great list of Halloween games!
I have two original controllers with my NES. They both feel sluggish even after a good cleaning I guess is they’re just worn down after years of use. Is there a way to get a better controller, maybe something new that works really well? Also saw another thread where I could swap out a classic NES controllershell with the original motherboard. Or did I just get unlucky with some bad controllers and should try to buy other original controllers?
I bought an AV Famicom more for the sake of having one than anything else, but I decided I may as well set it up to play NES games. Adapters for doing so aren't as common as their counterparts (Famicom to NES), so I figured I'd throw together my findings after testing out four different options.
In addition to relative obscurity, these adapters can also face compatibility issues. Specifically, they are known to struggle with games using certain mappers. Castlevania III with its MMC5 mapper seems to be the most common example. The adapters also vary in which way the NES cartridge faces. Some require it to face backward, with the label facing the rear of the console. Others allow it to face forward as you would normally expect.
I will provide approximate prices (in USD) and shipping fees, but these can vary a lot.
Also please excuse the dust on my TV. I was sick for over a week so I'm still catching up on stuff.
Adapter #1
Brand: None (generic)
Source: eBay (various)
Price: $12-$18 depending on the seller
Shipping: Varies by seller
Cartridge faces: Backward
MMC5 (Castlevania III) compatibility: Yes (mine at least)
Picture w/ Super Mario Bros.

These are as basic as they come. They're bare PCB with a cartridge slot. As you would expect, build quality is pretty much nonexistent. The adapter wobbles in the Famicom slot and the NES cartridge wobbles in the adapter. I can comfortably say you should NOT move a console while using one of these. The cartridge slot doors also tend to scrape against the adapter's contacts when removing it since there's nothing to hold them open. Surprisingly, mine actually works with Castlevania III. My research indicates this isn't a given with these generic adapters.
Rating: 3/10
Overall, it's serviceable. It does what it's supposed to. Even ones without mapper compatibility should still work with the vast majority of NES games. Better than nothing, but not much more.
If you go this route, make sure not buy a 60 to 72 pin adapter by accident, as those are more common.
Adapter #2
Brand: RETROAD
Source: AliExpress
Price: $16.43 (with shell) at time of purchase, $22.56 at time of writing
Shipping: Free
Cartridge faces: Forward
MMC5 (Castlevania III) compatibility: Yes

This AliExpress special is, well, pretty special actually. For something so cheap I'm actually rather impressed with its quality and function. The adapter fits in the AV Famicom slot quite well with only a minor amount of wobble. The NES cartridge fits snugly in the top since the sides come up far enough to support it. It feels very well made for the price. There's not much to complain about in terms of functionality either. I'm honestly impressed. I bought it on a whim because it's cheap and it surpassed by expectations.
Note that AliExpress sells it with two options: No shell (looks similar to the Generic one) and with shell (as pictured and purchased). The bare version is cheaper and likely functions the same, but I don't recommend it because it lacks the cartridge support of the shelled version.
Rating: 7/10
It's pretty great. If it had a slightly better fit in the cartridge slot I would rate it higher. I'm also hesitant to rate anything from AliExpress too highly without more extensive testing.
Shipping from China to the US took a week for me.
Adapter #3
Brand: NostalJunk
Source: eBay (NostalJunk)
Price: $35.99 (listed at $39.99 at time of purchase, seller accepted my best offer -- currently listed at $36.99)
Shipping: $3.98
Cartridge faces: Backward
MMC5 (Castlevania III) compatibility: Yes

My feelings on this one are mixed. The exterior is built like a tank with thick, quality polymer. If I rated on feel alone it would be the best one here. However, it has shortcomings. Despite the greenish yellow walls around the cartridge slot, it doesn't actually support the NES cartridge in any way. The walls are both too short and too widely placed from the slot to do so. The cartridge is able to wobble as much as it does with the Generic adapter. That said, the part that slots into the Famicom is pretty solid. It's a definite upgrade from the Generic one's bare contacts.
Rating: 5/10
It does the job and uses quality materials, but the shortcomings are harder to accept at this price.
Adapter #4
Brand: CYBER Gadget (Retro Freak)
Source: Amazon.co.jp
Price: $15.13
Shipping: $19.86 (ouch)
Cartridge faces: Forward
MMC5 (Castlevania III) compatibility: Yes
Picture w/ Super Mario Bros.

It's commonly referred to as the Retro Freak adapter because it's made for the Retro Freak line of clone consoles. The actual manufacturer is CYBER Gadget.
It's the best of the bunch. The build quality feels similar to the RETROAD, but with slightly better tolerances. It slots into the AV Famicom as well as an actual cartridge, resulting in pretty much no wobble. The NES cartridge slot is also well supported with a snug fit. The indent on the front makes it easy to remove. Not much more to say honestly. It just does its job really well.
The biggest drawback is availability. At the time of writing, it has only just gone on sale again after being discontinued for years. I've seen it go in and out of stock over the course of a week.
Rating: 9/10
With a minor color and texture tweak, this could probably pass as an official NES accessory.
Shipping was expensive, but it arrived in two days.
