No Audio or Video

So I have my original N64 stored in a cupboard in my room with a few games from back in the day. Plugged it into the TV (in the correct ports), but no signal comes through. It's on the right channel, it's a flat screen from 2014. I've tried 4 cartridges with no luck, even tried another flat-screen I bought second hand that I use often. Still no luck. It powers on and I've tried two different cables, I was about to think it was my cables until I took my SNES out and used the same av cable (the cable was originally for N64). And it worked fine with the SNES on both flat-screens. The N64 was not refurbished nor second hand, it was the same one my parents bought me years ago when the console came out. I've read a few posts mentioning the 240p issue but I feel if an SNES can be read on the TV why can't a N64?

I made a ranking tier list based on my favorite third party Nintendo 64 games. Basically not Nintendo or Rare.

High Stakes Mario Golf N64

Does anyone play Mario Golf N64 competitively on Nintendo Switch Online? I'm talking like people who can chip in and shoot -18.

I'd love to start a league with tournaments and head to heads.

Rayman 2 Appreciation Post

Nothing special, just wanna share my love for this game. Perhaps there is a bit of nostalgia involved as this is one of my childhood games, but it's one I come back to at least once a year and never gets old for me.

There is something I find so cozy about the art style, I could genuinely just walk around the Fairy Glade all day. Yet it also has this super creepy atmosphere in some levels like the Cave of Bad Dreams. I think that part with the overlay of the chomping teeth following you is why I have a fear of being chased to this day lol. And the music! I know people say the N64 music isn't as good as on the PC, but I think the soundtrack is phenomenal. Sanctuary of Water and Ice, Woods of Light, The Bayou, and plenty more are all amazing. I love the lack of voice acting too and that it's just strange but funny sounds for most characters. Overall I feel like the atmosphere is very unique compared to other N64 games.

I think the level design is fantastic and each level feels so different from the others, it doesn't feel like there is a lot of repetition throughout the game. Genuinely my only complaint is that there aren't more levels because they are so fun to play.

I find it plays so smoothly to this day and has a good balance in terms of difficulty. I think they did the collection aspect really well with the Lums too. Enough in most levels to warrant exploring every nook and cranny, yet for the most part don't feel like a pain to get (maybe except for the final level lol).

It may just be my favourite N64 game although admittedly there are still a couple big ones I need to play. But this game will always hold a special place in my heart!

Weird Childhood Memory in Beetle Adventure Racing

Beetle Adventure Racing has to be my all-tine favorite racing game of all-time. Tons of secrets, unlockables and lots of replay value. Amazing game, shame it never got a sequel.

So, I clearly remember something weird from my childhood.... Well here it is:

I had completed the Championship on "Novice" mode and of course the next difficulty to tackle was "Advanced". After completing the "Novice" mode I was awarded a new car while the commentator happily said:

"CONGRATULATIONS! YOU'VE WON NOTHING!! NOW GO FOR ADVANCED!!!"

To this day, now being 36 years old, it's still something I say on occasion in certain situations and that memory has been engraved in my head for the last 20+ years...

Except...

I have tried countless times to get this to trigger recently but I can't...

False childhood memory or Mandela Effect?

Europe specific problem?

I just got an n64 region free from japan with the original power supply but the AC from the wall in Greece is 220V and the Japanese AC adapter can only handle 100V. The problem is also the fact that i cant find any OEM n64 AC adapters for europe anywhere and i've found that there quite rare and potentially expensive. Could i set up a power converter somehow or is my only option to buy a fake one? (or OEM eventually but it might take a while and im really exited to play so id like a short term solution without having to spend too much)

When i fix this i'll probably post a setup pic, im way too exited to try it out.

AC Adapters: OEM just fine?

For retro gaming, Triad Magnetics 9v AC adapters are popular as they actually output 9v for the 7805 (or even NEC 2405) regulators -- which like 9v.

I am not finding any concern over N64 OEM ac adapters. It looks like all regulars are in the AC. Most discussions just concern Redditors looking for a new AC adapter -- and wondering if aftermarket products are fine.

I think for my N64 ac solutions, all that I need to do is a recap, and put in a resistor (I have a Japanese model to use in the USA. The resistor is to accommodate for 120v vs 100v).

I have an HK ac adapter, but I do not think it is 100v-220v. It operate in circa 220v only.

My N64 is from HongKong, and the mainboard appears identical to a Japanese/USA 60hz consoles.

How do you store your games? I am looking for some type of case solution.

Heyo, I am currently looking for a good way to store my n64 games in a more permanent way. I am unsure if I should buy the simple dust covers for the bottom or if anybody knows of good hard cases for individual games.

I was hoping a company made individual hard cases like they do for gameboy and gameboy advanced games, but all I have been able to find is that cheap cases made out of very thin material.

Did you take the plunge? (Analogue 3D)

I can’t blame anyone either way. On one hand, there aren’t any full-size gameplay screenshots. On the other hand, Analogue has a fantastic track record when it comes to video signals.

For me, it’s a matter of convenience. I want a system that can store saves, interface with a myriad of wireless controllers, produce a good CRT filter for a screen much larger, more space-efficient, and less eye-straining than my actual tube, and perhaps even run games better than the original console. All while playing natively.

Unlike, say, the Dreamcast, the N64 simply doesn’t feel true when being emulated. Unless it’s Mario 64, something always feels off. I really look forward to having a new console that can just act as a modernized N64.

Castlevania started bad and ended ok. Which N64 game started ok and ended ok?

Castlevania was the top voted comment for having a rough start but ending ok. Turok 3 was runner-up.

Today, which game was just fine from start to finish? Not necessarily mediocre, something that kept you interested just enough to see the end?

I have a box problem hehe

I've been slowly getting boxes for the games I have the manuals for (the manual on the side is an extra MM manual I might give to a friend). Banjo's box is a little bit crushed and might need some restoring but so far I'm happy with how it's coming along :)
