I understand that we all want auth entic games (esp for collecting) but why do we hate repros for every day game play? I just took out the old original N64 and I only have a handful of games. I’m trying to slowly recollect them all but not just for collecting, I’m playing them all. So specifically OOT, Super Mario, Banjo-Kazooie - do I need originals? Is it really awful if I get a bunch of knock offs to play?
So, my monitor does not have built in speakers. Was wondering if theres any products like a retrotink 2x that has 3.5mm capabilities or something like that. The only one I couls find was a cheap 10$ amazon option but of course the scaling on that is going to be pretty shit id assume…
During moving I found my N64 with games which were stored for 10+ years in a moving box (great find, very happy to hook it all up). Of some of the games, the plastic became yelow. How do I remove it? I dont want to use hydrogen peroxide with UV lights because Im afraid that will damage the sticker labels. Any advice?
I would like to buy an n64 HDMI adapter but I have a painfully strict budget of >70 pound sterling. What would you recommend?
Just kidding, it’s an RGB modded N64 + Retrotink 4k on an OLED.
Hi
I've got some questions about playing NTSC Games on a PAL N64 Console.
I did some research regarding which adapter is the best to go with (compared Passport Plus III and Universal Games Adaptor v4) and decided to buy the universal games adaptor v4 from Blaze, which I read has the best compatibility. It also has almost every Key Code/Boot Code saved, so I don't need to look for them seperately.
I know that I need a Boot Cartrige, meeting the region of my console. But now, here's where I need some help with:
Most Websites and Passport Manual says Super Mario 64 is the most recommended Boot Cartrige because it has "no protection"/"Card Type 0". But Passport Manual also says, games with built-in memory may be facing the issue of data loss, when using it as boot cartrige. Unfortunately, SM64 has built-in memory, so I'd rather go with another cartrige.
And about the protection: Out of my research I got the information that there exist CIC security chips and SM64 uses CIC-6102/CIC-7101.
So doesn't that mean, it has protection? - I'm a noob on this, so maybe I misunderstood something.
So the questions I have are:
-What exactly does no protection mean?
-Is there another recommended cartrige like SM64 I could use instead (no protection & no built-in memory)?
-Is the data loss issue maybe only a thing with Passport and could work on the universal games adaptor?
PS. I know there is everdrive which would be way easier to use, but I'd like to have cartriges :)
I hope someone can help me here.
Thanks in advance!
Hi, just yesterday i installed the N64 RGB mod by Tim Worthington (my very first console mod ever) and something is broken. When i turn on the console the chip lights up and sometimes i get an image and sometimes nothing. When i do get a picture it freezes after a few seconds and crashes. Another time i just waited and it started after a while but it was running slower and there was no sound and all the colors were bleeding into eachother. What is wrong?
I love indie games that replicate the graphics and style of the N64, especially platformers. I decided to list all the ones I know in order to have them all in one place. The ones in bold are my personal favorites. I've gotten a lot of great suggestions since the first list, allowing me to bring the total up to 40.
I don't trust Aliexpress or eBay because repros/fakes + shipping cartridges from the US can get to almost 1/3 of the price here. I'd get an Everdrive for convenience later but I'm more excited about the collecting side. Right now I've got my eye on stores with international shipping like Lukie Games, eStarland, and DKoldies.
Hey,
I have a question.
On n64 mario kart. Is it posible to controller the whole menu with the joystick?
Because I have a new joystick insight and I can play and everything, but in the menu I can only go up and down with the + Buttons.
Is the New stick broken or is that normal in that game?
Thx
Majora's Mask was the top voted comment, conquering the terrible fate it met. Harvest Moon 64 was the runner up.
Finally, we are at the last spot. Which N64 game started good and ended good? A banger from start to finish. There many to choose but there's only room for one game.
Top voted comment will be added.

Please answer me. Don't make fun of me. 😢
I want it in CIB to complete the Non Power Pros Baseball games from Japan that I have. I do own this loose already.
So people are saying that the Summer cart 64 is better than the Everdrive so i'm wondering, is it worth getting one? I know the summer cart 64 does dd emulation but I can also play dd games on my. X7 in Z64 format. I don't really see a reason to get a summer cart unless there's some other features not on the X7.
So for context I bought this used at a yard sale eons ago and its worked fine until recently. I played it once last year on halloween and haven't touched it since. Went to play again last night and nothing just a black screen.
I tried a different cable same thing. So I cleaned the inner pins, pulled out the jumper pack twice, aggressively flicking the power on and off and still nothing. I would say its the cable but its the same one I use on my ps2 and it works perfect. I swapped out all 6 of my games too I did briefly get sort of like a staticy image on the screen where there was blue/green squares and I could kind of read start for Gex64.
Any help would be appreciated thank you in advance
Title says it all. Need some fonts from an N64 game. Need an idiot-proof way to snag em.
The only 3 I still want are Diddy Kong Racing, Donkey Kong 64 & Super Smash Bros
Started to rebuild my N64 collection with four classics from my childhood.
I never had an N64 growing up, but I played on friends’ consoles a lot. Goldeneye was massive in our college dorm in 2000 with tournaments up and down the halls. Of course 007 is on the way, but these got here first ($77 w/ free shipping).
Anyone else like games with Blockbuster stuff on it? I know that it’s a blemish and carts without it are more valuable, but there is something about the mini burst of nostalgia I get when I see the logo on retro video game hardware.
Volunteered to help load a toilet into a customers car since I knew they'd be waiting until next year for a loader to come. Saw this bad boy and asked if they were selling. They said just take it. Big W. Been playing on an HD TV since I got my console a year ago, can't wait to play on this thing.
Any opinions on what i should gun for next in anticipation for the Analogue 3D release? I have Goemon’s Great Adventure on the way. I’m also collecting Japanese N64 games (2 hidden away in the top left corner) so any suggestion on those definitely welcome.
