Djinn work really well as a gameplay mechanic and enable way more strategies in battles (djinn mixing, psynergy changes, stat boosts, djinn attacks, summons), golden sun wouldn't be as fun to play without them.
Narratively I don't think they work that well, they feel slightly shoe horned in to enable the mechanics. I know that there is some influences from actual spiritual beliefs so it's not entirely random to have djinn tied to alchemy. Only having the player characters use djinn seems to give credence to them being less narratively important and more gameplay motivated. If djinn were more tied to the story then I might expect them to be acknowledged more in conversations, necessary for story progression rather than optional, and that the enemy psynergy users might have some as well.
I often think of Golden Sun being adapted in a different medium like a tv show or anime, and I've thought that the writing for a show would be better if they ignore djinn. Just focus on alchemy/psynergy (and maybe summons, cause they are awesome) mixed with normal combat, kinda similar to avatar the last airbender, and not overcomplicate the writing by including the more 'video game-y'/mechanics things. If the writing is really good I could see a way where you aren't retconning djinn out but rather just don't really mention them and leave room for their existence.
I'm pretty sure I'm almost alone in this opinion, given just how much Golden Sun fans love djinn as seen by all the oc. I can't argue, they are cute. Does anyone else share my stance? If there was a Golden Sun show what changes would you want the adaptation to make?
As in, the exact room?
I know that you can't backtrack for sure once you complete mogal forest and exit it, but does the "blockage" happens earlier while you are still in the forest?
And if it does, then which room?

Awesome work, unfortunately the final one of his :(
Hey First time playing the lost age What is the best djin’s combination per character? And the best classes?
Thanks
I know most people will probably compare these "sprites" to Pokemon.
But for me they immediately reminded me of the adorable little Djinns from Golden sun.
I mean they sorta even look like them, ya know, small and cute. and they control elemental powers.
Any one else getting Golden sun vibes?
I just started The Lost Age and I spent a long time putting in the gold password, but when it finally showed me what character stats I'll be inheriting it did not show all my djinn. When I tried it again with the bronze password to double-check, it still didn't show me all of my djinn. Does the game just not show you all your djinn when you carry data over from the first game to the lost age? Does it require you to re-acquire the djinn or something? Thank you
Edit: People are misunderstanding what I meant, so I thought I'd clarify- I KNOW that you don't get the djinn until you meet Isaac's party later in the game. What I meant was the page that shows you what content carries over- right after you put in the password and before the game even starts- isn't showing me all of my djinn.
I’ve seen countless posts regarding the annoyance of how long it takes to acquire mythril shirts & hyper boots on the lucky wheels in tolbi by save scumming, so I figured I’d share my experiences.
I too spent countless hours save scumming and reloading my saves after every spin on the wheels to try and obtain the mythril shirts & hyper boots, until I discovered this;
You have to win something of lesser value before the algorithm lets you win the higher end items. For example, I bet 1 line and won a silk shirt, then instead of reloading my previous save, I decided to try and spin again. I bet 1 line again and immediately won the mythril shirt.
I was about to give up and wait til I transfer my data over to TLA so I could do the Trial Road glitch, but now that I’ve discovered this, I will just spend a little more time here. Now, if I don’t immediately win the mythril shirt or hyper boots upon my 2nd spin, then I’ll reload the save. Good luck out there adepts!
Hi guys,
I’m just writing this post because I wanted to share with others how much I love Golden Sun. I remember the first time I played this game I was 6 years old. I used to wait until my parents would leave the bedroom at night and I would pickup my game boy and play it for hours. I’m 27 now and decided to play the game again on my steam deck and I’m getting so much nostalgia.
I remember I used to have a crush on Jenna as a 6 year old boy. I don’t even know how that works since she’s a fake character but the interactions between the characters just makes everything feel so real. I remember the hours I spent stuck on puzzles or even days. It’s not super easy to figure these out as a child. I even became obsessed with the weather because the psynergy in the game lets you summon tornados, eruptions, or earthquakes.
The soundtrack is a masterpiece and I remember holding the game boy speaker up to my ear just so I could hear my favorite themes. Jennas battle theme, Saturos’s battle theme, karst & agatios theme. Don’t even get me started on the vibes when I finally reunited with Isaac and the OG party at the Jupiter lighthouse. Man that entire cutscene was so badass. I think what I love the most about this game is the way the battle system is structured. The way that the weapons unleash certain techniques really incentivizes you to collect them all.
Lastly I remember that final battle in Golden Sun fighting fusion dragon at the top of Venus Lighthouse. I remember my first playthrough I had to ask my dad if he knew how to put cheat codes in because I always ended up getting KO’d at that part of the game. There was absolutely no way that I could beat that part. Keep in mind I was like 7 so the idea of Saturos & Menardi merging into a freaking dragon and absolutely destroying me was so aggravating and badass.
I wish I could play this entire series again for the first time because I probably replayed and beat this game at least 5 times as a kid. It’s crazy how despite being so long (20 years) I still remember most of the puzzles and STILL enjoy playing this game. <3
Decided to start replaying Golden Sun on my phone today since it's been so long.
I can't believe I didn't remember how adorable Kraden is. From the beginning to the end, he says we're going to the Sol Sanctum for a lesson in Alchemy. Supposedly, we were never supposed to go into the inner Sanctum... but he conveniently brings Mythril Bags with him to hold the Elemental Stars in, JUST IN CASE?????
Nah. He intended for us to reach the Elemental Stars. Kraden is a whole menace, but such a beautiful portrayal of a researcher, hungering endlessly for new information. He devolves into childish begging as soon as we solve the puzzle, guilting us into accompanying him due to his age. "Surely, we can't turn back now, right?" ACTUALLY, YES WE CAN, KRADEN.
I barely remember this game and it feels so good to be playing through it again after 18 years with new eyes, and a brain that isn't continuously mashing the A button at all times.
So I just got to the part where you compete in coloso, and I won 2 of the 3 fights, which leads to my question: is it possible to beat all three opponents in coloso? If so, whats different between that result and losing in one of the fights?
I just beat golden sun 1 again and instead of tediously inputting the password i wanted to do the link cable version, but it keeps failing. i know this because the manual says that the game will prompt me to accept the transfer and if i do it wrong it will prompt me to name Isaac and every time i try this is never prompts me and instead sends me to a screen that lets me look at my game 1 stats and characters. when i press start or b it'll prompt me to name Isaac, which means i did something wrong. any ideas?
As in, how much experience does it take exactly to go from level 5 to 6 and up to 99 for the first 3 characters.
Same for Piers from 18 to 19 and onwards.
I have found one for GS on gamefaqs, but I don't think there is one for TLA there.
I would like to find out what the Piers's initial stats are under these conditions.
Start a new TLA game (transfer password or not, it shouldn't matter, but don't rename any of your characters and don't press/backup any other buttons as to not affect the RNG).
As soon as you gain control over your first 3 characters, verify that their stats are exactly this (no djinni, all initial equipment untouched):
HP PP ATTACK DEFENSE AGILITY LUCK
FELIX: 77 27 44 17 28 2
JENNA: 65 43 33 18 31 3
SHEBA: 50 60 23 28 37 5
Find Piers.
Don't change his equipment. As for djinni, make sure that he only has two djinni on white, Spring and Shade. All other djinni in his possession need to be on red.
Under these conditions, please let me know what all his 6 initial stats are.
The more answers I get, the better.
I was wondering if anyone could help my with my psynergy problem. I'm trying to move the log by standing in the shallow waters. I have to press the A button to access the menu to choose the psynergy move. But every time I try that I will be interruped by a message that says "There is a tree that looks like a person"
What am I doing wrong? I have a feeling this is not the way it's supposed to be.
Thank's in advance.
edit: Thank you for the help!
I'm working on a big collection of tools for games and i just finished to develop a save editor for Golden Sun and Golden Sun: The Lost Age.
At the moment, it can edit almost everything except events.
Don't mind to let me know if something isn't working properly or if i missed something!

Anyone knows why this specific small part of the map has different graphics at the beginning of the map ?
So I've been playing the gba games on Nintendo Switch online and I often find myself wishing I could have more then 2 synergies assigned to shortcuts so I don't have to go into the menu to change the shortcuts every time I enter a new dungeon, since the switch has 4 shoulder buttons plus two extra face buttons that the gba doesn't have they could allow for up to 6 shortcuts in a hypothetical remake
Thinking about this got me thinking what other quality of life changes they could make if they remade the games today
Some other things I thought of
Have easy and hard mode unlocked from the start instead of requiring clear data
A minimap for dungeons (Dark Dawn did this and I thought it was a nice addition
Some kind of indicator if a store has a new artifact that you haven't seen before when you first visit a town
What other quality of life changes do you think they could include in a remake of the gba games
... and my memory may have failed me, but... 14 hours in the story, and I can't remember seeing a single cat. Do they even exist in this Angara world? What about other animals?
I moved the circuit boards from the set on the left to the ones in the middle. The first game occasionally gives me the save error glitch, but otherwise they still miraculously work. Also, trying to transfer items between different language versions doesn't work with the link cable, the games don't recognize the connection.
