Hello my wife and I have a son and a lot of family in North Carolina. We’d like to be closer to them. Ideally we’d like to be in the Raleigh-Durham area as we’ve heard it’s the most accepting but how bad is it outside of the area? We were born and raised in Massachusetts where it’s extremely accepting here and we’ve never had an issue. We don’t want to move anywhere we won’t be accepted but also understand the south also isn’t the most accepting.
Hi! I’m moving to Durham in June and I realized I really don’t have a good group of queer/ lesbian friends! As a lesbian (hi I’m 23), I’ve mainly had straight girls as friends or bi girls, but I’d really love to meet more gay girls! Hit me up!
I’m into soccer, acting, sword fighting, board games, mixing drinks, hiking, reading and second hand clothing shopping. I’ll also be a Grad student this fall.

Hello everyone! I'm a master's student in psychology and I'm collecting anonymous data for my thesis which is a research study aiming to investigate the psychological impact of any kind of discrimination one might have experienced, including sexual orientation discrimination and discrimination on account of somebody's physical or mental difficulties.
I would be really grateful if you could participate by filling out my survey! Thank you very much in advance! :)

Hey everyone! We are thinking about moving to the Wilmington area in June, but have a few questions before looking for a place. We have two kids, one of which is transgender. We currently live in Vermont where our child is able to receive gender affirming care with no issues. My wife and I love it here but my children don't like the cold lol. We previously lived in FL, but because of the laws there regarding gender care we needed to move. I know that NC isn't much better than FL in this regard, but it looks like we are still able to get my child's care since they have been receiving it for a couple years now and is grandfathered in. I called around to a couple places in the Wilmington area, like Planned Parenthood and they said there would be no issues in seeing and prescribing medications. So, my first question is for anyone that is currently receiving gender affirming in the state. Have you experienced any difficulties in seeing a doctor or receiving your medications? My second question is for anyone in the state. What is current feeling on gender care and lgbtq+ overall in the state? I know there is an election coming up and we are curious if it feels like the republican candidate has a shot to win this November? And if so, is transgender care still a big issue in the state? Does it seem like more anti-trans laws are coming down the pipeline? Any help with these questions are greatly appreciated! My wife and son went down to visit Wilmington a couple weeks ago and loved it! My son and I both surf and miss the beach so it would be great to be close to the ocean again. We're just worried that our child will not be able to get the care they need and we'll be scrambling to find another place to move to.
Autistic young adult ... I talked to my family (mainly one family member) about being trans and treating my top dysphoria and they agreed with it but are making me do majority of the process by myself and I'm just super confused by everything. I haven't seen my pediatrician since I 17 (approaching 2 -3 years ago now) and and this is my first time searching for a doctor/PCP and that process alone has been stressful because I was struggling to get my insurance's website to even work
My family said to look for someone LGBT supportive so they can refer me to other people who will help me with my dysphoria. I found someone I think (the only one labelled "LGBT supportive" according to my insurance website). I feel good about this person though.... Except I will most likely not have an appointment until June at the earliest... Potentially even August. This isn't the only doctor who's had a wait-list up till August I saw but this is one I'm bummed about because I finally found someone I think I'd like. I don't understand why all these wait-list are until August? Is this normal when finding adult doctors? If so it's really making me feel hopeless
Sitting in the bathroom right now dysphoric and wanting to cry... Is this it? Is this my only option? Waiting until at best June for a single appointment? Is there nothing I can do to speed this up? Like I understand to get top surgery I need to make sure insurance (hopefully) covers it, I'll need a referral I think, I need a psych evaluation I think (are those the same or different?). I don't understand where to get this stuff. I keep Googling NC-specific questions and get no answers. I went to Duke's website on top surgery and all it explained was mainly what top surgery is and why people get it, not the process for how to actually start it the process. How do I find these people qualified to write my referral? Is the only way I can get top surgery through a referral with my PCP like my family said?
I know a couple's month wait isn't the end of the world and people have waited for longer but I'm just so overwhelmed right now and it's to the point that dysphoria is very clearly affecting my work and studies and I just want this over with ideally before the end of this year but if not I want to have confidence that by the end of this year we at least actually started the process.

hi, all! I'm a nonbinary fagdyke who loves intersectional advocacy, listening to full albums, scrolling Tumblr, reading on AO3 for hours, and a variety of handicrafts (I'm always looking to pick up new ones) (yes I'm AuDHD why do u ask?)
looking for queer friends who are still masking (indoors & out) & testing because they care & refuse to be complicit in genocide. bonus points if you're musicians who want to form a band 🥰 I'm currently out in GSO but I don't mind the drive and the Durham library has a recording booth.
Our local Burlesque community is filled with queer performers, we hope you can make it!

I’m 28 masc lesbian and looking for women in their 40s and above. I’m mostly into older feminine women since I was younger but it’s to hard to find older lesbian. I’m not looking for a sugar mommy. I’m pretty stable in career, mental and financial wise.
It’s just so difficult for me to find attraction in girls who are my age. Dating apps don’t work so here I’m posting here. So, if you are single, queer in your 40s and above or you know someone, please hit me up lol 😂
I’m based out Raleigh,NC
I have no idea what I'm doing lol. I look up "how to get gender dysphoria diagnosis in NC" and the top results are all things I already know... Like the fact that I need a GD diagnosis for top surgery.
I want to know how to get it. I don't know the kind of doctor you're supposed to be looking for... I haven't been to a doctor since I had a pediatrician so I don't really have anyone to refer me to someone else.
If I'mma be honest I don't know if I'm really even gonna go through with getting a diagnosis to be told what I'm already aware of (for the past 10 years, in fact), when my preferred surgeon seems to not take insurance anyways, but hey I guess it couldn't hurt to at least have an understanding of the process if things change in the future. Plus peace of mind of like "No, you're not crazy. It is dysphoria and there's nothing wrong with you treating it."
How was anyone else's experiences? How much did it cost or how long did it take?

So, going off the trope of queer people loving animals & being more likely to own them... just wanted to plug that the Durham animal shelter (APS) is super full & currently running an adoption special ($5) on adult dogs. I know orgs like Hope Animal Rescue have more Instagram appeal, but if folx here are looking for an animal friend, check out an adult dog at the shelter. Most of the adult dogs are potty trained or close, and volunteers (myself included) work with them on other basic training, too.
APS also has community resources like an animal food pantry! And all animals come with a chip, spay/neutered, vaccines, and have been loved & cared for by volunteers. A lot of shelter dogs could use the understanding and patience we have in droves in the queer community.
They also always need foster parents if you're looking for a shorter-term commitment. I know that my pets are life-giving for me, and I love how easy it is to spoil them.
