Hey, like the title suggests I'm looking for holiday cards. Not for me but for my mom. Since Easter she has been in and out of the hospital with different things going on. Whether that be a unknown parasitic infection, still don't know how she got it. Or her lungs acting up. Till recently about four months ago when she had to have emergency surgery on her colon. She had a colostomy, where they took 8 inches of her colon. Then she went into sepsis and skin failure, she spent only 3 days at the local hospital where they ran out of recourse for her. She had to go to Greensboro hospital, where she went into stage four bed stores. And the wound care doctor only gave her 72 hours to live. He said in his 20 plus years he had never seen such bad wounds, and happen so fast. He was surprised and happy to see her alive. She is still battling the wounds, but she has a wound care team. And we've been taking good care of it. Now just the ostomy bag. Our local hospital doesn't have an ostomy clinic. So we have to go into the bigger citys, and that's hard on her.
That brings me to the present. There is only 46 days till Christmas. I was thinking what would make her feel less alone. She loves cards, any kind really. But we don't get that many. So if you will send a card, whether that's a holiday or get well card. My sister is setting up a p.o box so we don't have to give out our address. But that's only if you feel lead to. If you want to commit something on this post for her, that would be perfect too! I'm just trying to make her smile again.
Thank you in advance!
Mother in law lives in NC but wife/daughter and I live in Virginia. MiL decided she as done driving and wanted to give her car to my wife during a recent visit. She signed the title and gave us the keys to drive it home. It wasn’t until we got home (3 hours away) that we noticed the notary requirement on the title (which Virginia does not require). I happen to have my MiL’s POA so I wonder if I could get the title notarized with my sig as the POA and my wife as the buyer?
During a press conference, Destin Hall just straight up invited Democrats to switch parties after it was projected they will lose their supermajority.
I live in Brunswick county and was wondering if there were any poultry shows or auctions within an hour drive?
Hey! I live in Greenville Nc, I’m trying to understand the nanny rate in my area and others. And help is appreciated! Thanks
Recently got an email that Boone and blowing rock are open for business. Great news
Any info about the BRP??
Interesting situation I am about to find myself in, and looking for some help from the community.
Ok, I am looking to purchase a car from a friend here in NC. He is a FL resident, and the car is registered there. I am a TX resident, and my vehicles are registered there.
Whose laws need to be followed? The state where the purchase/title xfer is occurring (NC)? The state where I intend to have the car registered (TX)? Or the state where the car is currently registered (FL)?
Additionally are there any loopholes to avoid purchase taxes (i.e. Highway-use-tax in NC)? Minor sketchiness is fine. I was thinking about going the "gift" route, but am unsure how viable that option is.
Thanks in advance to any responders.
I searched the sub for relevant threads, but none of them quite answered my questions.
I’m someone who has never fired a gun before. I don’t own one. I want to learn how to handle one safely, start to finish, how all of this works.
I live in Wake County and I need the experience of others to make recommendations.
After Donald Trump won the state of North Carolina for a third time on Election Day 2024, there is a major shakeup at the Mecklenburg County Democratic Party (MeckDems).
Monifa Drayton, the party’s executive director, sent a scathing resignation email just one day after the election claiming, “gross negligence of governance, accountability, spending controls, basic employment practices and subjugation to a persistent hostile environment.”
Mecklenburg County Democratic Party via Facebook
Mecklenburg county which hosts the city of Charlotte has the largest share of Democratic Party voters in the state with more than 332,000 registered according to data from the State Board of Elections. Voter turnout in this election cycle is estimated to be 3% lower compared to 2020.
In her letter sent to Drew Kromer, the MeckDems chairman, Drayton called the Democratic Party work environment “hostile and unbearable,” noting that she was warned about potential issues before joining the organization earlier this year.
“Prior to joining the team, I was forewarned of the alleged racism, discrimination, incompetence and manipulation but at the request of the community leaders, love for politics, my community and belief in early careerists I made the decision to move forward with accepting the position,” wrote Drayton. “Within two weeks of employment the gross negligence of governance, accountability, spending controls, basic employment practices and subjugation to a persistent hostile environment was realized and became progressively worse each month which has been unconscionable and intolerable.”
The hostile environment that Drayton mentions includes her being stripped of roles and responsibilities without her knowledge.
“The most humiliating of all was the retaliatory action to strip me from all Executive Director responsibilities, relegating me to only work with Black, Brown and the LGBTQ community,” said Drayton. “This was truly reminiscent to what was required of professional Black women during the Jim Crow era. Without my knowledge or justification.”
In closing her resignation letter Drayton did provide some advice on how the party can do better in the future.
“My hope for the future of the Mecklenburg County Democratic Party is that we will be intentional about inclusivity of people from all socioeconomic backgrounds, diversity, equity and belonging so that it is reflective of the residents in our county,” she advised. “We will be transparent, responsible with finances and give all candidates equal support and opportunity to run for an office. We will hire experienced staff with proven wins versus nepotism. Lastly, to mitigate future risks, it is imperative that MCDP select officers who are interested in supporting a healthy work environment and create a culture of accountability. These are all changes that will help to ensure that we never repeat the election outcome that we are experiencing.”
“If Democrats want to consistently win statewide they need to run up the score in urban areas like Mecklenburg County and that just has not been happening over the last several elections,” Dr. Andy Jackson, Director of the Civitas Center for Public Integrity at the John Locke Foundation, told the Carolina Journal. “The state party’s new emphasis on competing in rural areas means that urban counties will have to depend more on their own people and resources. So far, the Mecklenburg Democratic Party has not been up to that task.”
IANAL, so please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think there's a back door to legalizing marijuana in NC: if Jackson as AG were to decline to prosecute marijuana cases and Stein as governor were to direct the state police to ignore marijuana offenses, it seems to me that individual counties could conceivably legalize and tax pot sales. If, say, Orange and Durham counties did that, and started raking in tax revenue, it would seem that maybe other counties would follow suit. Legislating up the ladder rather than down, sorta thing. And if the legislature passed laws to annul this, Stein could veto. Granted, I am ALMOST CERTAINLY wrong about this. If I am, please tell me how!
I have to move a relative up here from florida to get away from the insane homeowner's insurance, and they have decided they would like to live in an r v. My assumption would be there is a list of RV parks somewhere. To be sure, the great hive mind of reddit, has access to such a thing.
Hello! We are driving through NC on the first night of Hanukkah (12/25) passing through either Durham or Charlotte (depending on route). We have two daughters age 2 and 4. Are there any Jewish Community Centers in either area with a Hanukkah event or activity that evening?
Every now and then I hop on the p hub site to see if it's unblocked and it was??? Never got a VPN and this is right after a big election. Not sure if that could have changed anything but mostly just wondering if other people have noticed it was unblocked for them.
I'm very happy he won NC AG! I hope he will run for president in '28. He has the intelligence and compassion and personality to win. I like Pete too but I fear it's too soon.
Biden won this county by 100 votes last time
Just as the title says. It's called the Compassionate Care Act but the status of the bill is cryptic: "Re-ref to the Com on Health, if favorable, Finance, if favorable, Rules, Calendar, and Operations of the House on 5/18/2023"
https://www.ncleg.gov/BillLookUp/2023/s3
Just wondering if anyone understands where the bill is going or if its been rejected or when it will get some traction?
Just as the title says. Walk me through the process please. I want to do it the right way. I've hunted as a kid and have experience so I'm jot totally new. I want one for my apartment as it's kind of sketchy at times for me and my gf. Hopefully it's never used, but what would the process be like?
Saw a post on r/Raleigh, but it was restricted in scope.
Does Harriet's in Charlotte have the best burger? Farmburger in Asheville was amazing when they first opened, but I think they went donwnhill in recent years. Maybe that place in Siler City that's been open since the 40s? Or shit, maybe even a fast food place such as What-A-Burger or even a bigger chain such as Culver's?
Ulterior motive: I am soliciting advice on where to get a great burger.
I was trying to track my ballot to make sure it counted, I called the board of elections and the man on the phone told me it will be updated this coming Thursday. Currently it just shows the status of the mail in ballot(sent to my address, not yet recieved by the board). I voted in person because I got an email from ballottrax telling me it was going to be too late if I tried to mail it on Monday and to just vote in person on election day instead
We still have the amendment banning it
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Carolina_Amendment_1
Clarence Thomas said it should be revisited: https://www.reddit.com/r/PoliticalDiscussion/s/2PCpIozUFN
So what happens if he gets what he's asking for?
Would marriages from other states be recognized still?
As I’m sure you are aware, you can’t watch any kind of team sporting event now without being absolutely BOMBARDED with gambling ads. This is not an exaggeration. It is EVERY commercial break. It is on the tickers and talked about by the broadcasters. FanDuel bought an entire fucking sports channel, so now if I want to watch most Canes games I literally have to open a gambling company app.
If it was just effecting adults, I could live with it. I still find it abhorrent that North Carolinians lose $70-$100 million a month to sports betting companies, but at the end of the day, they’re adults. But it’s not just adults that watch sports.
My kid is a huge Canes fan. Bigger than me. During Thursdays game he asked me if we could make a bet as they were showing odds and promos where you get “free money” to place your first bets. He’s 9 years old. I explained to him the dangers of gambling and how these evil corporations (yes, they are literally evil) lure you in with predatory practices.
But how many kids are seeing this stuff and NOT getting that message from their parents? How many kids are going to be so saturated with this bullshit that as soon as they turn 18 they’re going to start throwing money at it?
It’s despicable, discouraging, and shameful that we ever let it get to this point.
I know I’m gonna get a lot of “well I make money and it’s fun so it should be legal hur dur” responses and honestly, you mother fuckers are why this will NEVER be fixed. So congrats, you’ve ruined sports to make a few bucks and line the pockets of billion dollar companies.
