RDU Airport Authority’s Plans to Destroy and Re-develop Lake Crabtree County Park

Details

The Wake County Board of Commissioners expects to discuss a RDU's lease opportunity for Lake Crabtree County Park at its February 10th work session. The Board will not evaluate or vote on the RDU Airport Authority’s development plans. Public comments are NOT taken at Work Sessions, but they are taken at Regular Meetings.

There is a regular meeting on Monday, 3/Feb/2025 starting at 5pm at the Wake County Justice Center. Public comments are generally early in the meeting.

Please consider attending this meeting and telling the Wake County Commissioners your thoughts about Lake Crabtree County Park.

Sign up for public comment either online or in person. If in person, you need to sign up before the meeting starts.

On-line sign up will be available at 9am on the day of any board meeting that includes a public comment period. This is the link: https://boccomment.wake.gov/

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

• RDU took these lands KNOWING they were planned for recreation.
• RDU kept these lands even after the FAA on two occasions (1975 and 1980) approved a property boundary that had all of Lake Crabtree County Park OUTSIDE of the boundary of needed land.
• Wake County tried to buy the lands in 1981. But RDUAA member Willie York (York Properties) blocked the sale.

The land is NOT owned by RDU. It is owned by the public owners of RDU (Wake Co., Durham Co., Raleigh, Durham). RDU only manages the land. Given the history and how important this park is to our area, these lands should revert back to Wake County given the history!

I believe the state would be better at handling emergency management response and funding than FEMA!

Anyone else having a hard time logging onto the ePASS website/applying for Medicaid?

Now I know this is probably a horrible time to be applying for Medicaid, but I just turned 26 and I don't have another option. I completed the application a little over a week ago and haven't heard anything back in my email, checked my spam folder and everything, so I decided to log back onto the ePASS site and check on my application. The site isn't down and I was able to log in, but once I do I just get sent to a blank page with an error message that says "something went wrong" and gives me the options to 'try again' or 'go to home' but clicking both of them sends me to the same blank page. Clicking on the apply tab does the same. Anyone else having this problem?

Looking to move to North Carolina from Ohio

European, currently living in a small city in Ohio(50k population), I prefer to live in the agglomeration of a big city(suburb I guess).

I am mostly working from home (Software Engineering), it's important that the weather is nice as I like to go out ( hence the move from Ohio to somewhere warmer:) ), spend time in the nature, be close to water/beach.

I want to be no further away than 90 minutes from an airport, as I do tend to travel 10-15 times a years by plane. 28 years old.

I was considering Greensboro, Charlotte and Raleigh(Triangle) area so far, but am definitely open to suggestions.

First looking to rent a house(any renting companies that you can suggest is welcome), then later on if I like the area the plan is to buy a house in the near future(recommendations/tips are welcome).

Thank you

Is there a mechanism in North Carolina for recalling or removing an elected official who is not fulfilling their obligations to the citizens or their oath to the constitution?

Do we just have to wait for the next election to remove an elected representative/senator for not representing the express will of the citizens or acting in violation of their oath? Isn't a representative supposed to be the voice of their constituents? These grossly unqualified and ethically compromised cabinet picks are being handed the most important positions in our country and our senators are endorsing them. This is just the beginning! Is there ANY recourse now?

Moving to NC...City Recommendations?

Hi all!

I'm going to be moving to North Carolina in the Summer. The only issue is that I have no idea where exactly I want to live! What cities or towns would you suggest for living in?

For context, I'm 24 F, work remotely, love a small town vibe as well as outdoor activities

Thx!
