I'm making sausage and looking for straight pork fat - anyone know of a butcher or meat counter that might be willing to save and sell me their pork fatback trimmings?

I need your Christmas tree 🎄

So every year around this time my friends and I get together and have a huge Christmas tree bonfire (on acres of private open land and hosted by an ex-firefighter so don’t worry, it will be safe!) and we are a little short of where we were last year. Do you have a Christmas tree you haven’t gotten rid of yet you would donate to the cause ? Or have you seen any trees around Durham you could tell me the general location of ? Help us make this year the most epic of all 🔥

Looking for cat behaviorist

I have 4 senior cats (12-16 years old) and recently brought in another cat (1.5-2 years old). It is not going well. For the past 6 weeks they have been separated but able to see each other. I am using Feliway, calming collars, and calming treats to no avail. I have tried everything I can think of, but my cats freak out just looking at her. The new cat seems pretty indifferent and I think she just wants to play. I'm hoping to find someone that can help the cats adjust and tell me how to best handle the situation.

Unique jewelry/earrings

Any suggestions on a place/gift shop to buy some unique local artist made earrings and other jewelry. My wife likes earrings and such and I’m good at picking out what she likes…There used to be a good spot on 9th on the corner of Markham next to Barnes…but it closed several years ago. February is a brutal month… wedding anniversary, Valentines and her birthday all this month!!

Summer Camps Info?

I am considering a summer camp for my 6 year old. It is the exact same topic being offered at two different places: Carolina Friends School and Duke School? Does anyone have any experience with either of these or a preference?

Chair Upholstery Recommendations

My girlfriend’s dog got a little hungry and destroyed part of gf’s antique chair that belonged to her grandmother.

Where are some of your top recommendations in the area and about how much would the service cost? I have no idea other than a quick google search.

TIA!

Old Durham picture I found cleaning out my desk.

Not sure the year. University Ford looks like it’s under construction. Probably the best clue.

Duke family grieves loss, Blackhawk pilot

STATEMENT FROM THE LOBACH FAMILY

We are devastated by the loss of our beloved Rebecca. She was a bright star in all our lives. She was kind, generous, brilliant, funny, ambitious and strong. No one dreamed bigger or worked harder to achieve her goals.

Rebecca began her career in the United States Army as a distinguished military graduate in ROTC at the University of North Carolina, and was in the top 20% of cadets nationwide. She achieved the rank of Captain, having twice served as a Platoon Leader and as a Company Executive Officer in the 12th Aviation Battalion, Davison Army Airfield, Fort Belvoir, Virginia. With more than 450 hours of flight time, she earned certification as a pilot-in-command after extensive testing by the most senior and experienced pilots in her battalion.

Rebecca was a warrior and would not hesitate to defend her country in battle. But she was as graceful as she was fierce: in addition to her duties as an Army aviator, Rebecca was honored to serve as a White House Military Social Aide, volunteering to support the President and First Lady in hosting countless White House events, including ceremonies awarding the Medal of Honor and the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Rebecca cared about people, and she extended to individuals the same fearless defense she gave to this nation. She was proud of the difference she made as a certified Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention (SHARP) Victim Advocate and hoped to continue her education so she could serve this country as a physician when her time with the Army ended. She once said, "My experiences with SHARP have reinforced my resolve to serve others with compassion, understanding, and the resources necessary for healing."

Rebecca was many things. She was a daughter, sister, partner, and friend. She was a servant, a caregiver, an advocate. Most of all, she loved and was loved. Her life was short, but she made a difference in the lives of all who knew her. Our hearts break for the other families who have lost loved ones in this national tragedy and we mourn with them.

We request that you please respect our privacy as we grieve this devastating loss.

OB Recommendation?

I’m 10 weeks pregnant and torn between two options for my OB. I’ve been a GYN patient at Duke for years and always had a good experience but I’m worried they’re too big and too busy to get any kind of personalized or consistent care for OB. I went to Durham Women’s Clinic recently and they seem to have more capacity and a more personalized approach but their location is way less convenient than Duke’s and I know there are a lot of appointments between now and delivery that I have to fit in with my job (in Raleigh).

Anyone have experience doing their first pregnancy with either of these places? Any advice on how to choose?

why are there so many people at Costco today?

I know this might be a dumb question but i went to Costco today and the lines/crowds are so large. The lines literally extend almost to the end of the store and the membership area is also very crowded. The food court even ran out of many items. I know it’s saturday but I’ve never seen it like this. Is there a sale going on?
