Just tried calling in a potential OD…. Just sad

Got off of work near Brightleaf, and noticed a woman in her mid 30s nodding in and out of consciousness, waking herself up with her horn, in the driver seat.

I called Durham’s non emergency line, and was very glad to see the response time of the EMT’s/first responders.

Unfortunately they weren’t able to do anything due to the woman being able to be coherent enough to say she’s not answering any questions, she was “coloring.”

I hope she gets the help she deserves, I know I did the right thing, I’m not looking for pats on the back, I just wish there was something more I could have done for her. That’s someone’s family, and my heart is hurting for her.

Activities with minimal walking for Thanksgiving weekend

I have family coming to town for the holiday weekend and would like to plan some activities for them. They’re in their mid-70s so while they can walk some, things like Duke gardens might be too much. Unfortunately the trolley tours of it are done for the year. So far I’ve thought of:

  • Chinese lantern festival or drive through Xmas lights displays

-NC State arboretum

-services at Duke chapel

-hillsborough shops and riverwalk (not to walk the whole thing, just to look at the river)

Suggestions appreciated!

Police/ems presence on angier this afternoon?

Saw at least two ambulances and ten cop cars around 1:30 this afternoon about a quarter mile from ideals if you were going away from downtown on angier. Anyone hear/see/know anything?

buying used car RDU area

Any good dealer ships to buy a used reliable car for less than 6k? Would probably pay in full. Should I take it on a test drive and take it a mechanic to do an inspection?

Best bakery that sells cakes in Durham?

I am looking for some place that can make a birthday cake in Durham. I live in Greensboro and the birthday girl is in Durham so I'd rather pick it up there rather than here and drive it to Durham.

Alternatives: If there are any asian bakeries, I'd love to know too. Asian cakes and pastries are very fluffy and not too sweet.

Best Steakhouse in the Area?

Proposing to my girlfriend who recently moved to the area and want to reserve a spot at a nice steakhouse for a celebratory dinner for the two of us. From out of town, so not sure of the food scene. Any recommendations?

Restaurant for Milestone Anniversary

We're going to be in Durham for our 15th wedding anniversary visiting family. Any recommendations for a high end restaurant for an anniversary dinner? Some place special - ambiance is as important as food. Doesn't need to be fancy or expensive if it's special. Also doesn't need to be downtown.

To night walkers in neighborhoods

Ya gotta wear some kinda reflective thing. Please. I almost hit someone last night who was wearing a dark gray outfit at 8PM. At the very least, put your phone flashlight on.

Astronomy On Tap November 13th 2024 7pm at Durty Bull Brewing company

Check out Astronomy on Tap at Durty Bull Brewing Company in Durham. Astronomy on Tap features accessible, engaging science presentations from real astronomers on topics ranging from stars and planets to black holes and the beginning of the Universe - all while you enjoy a beer! The next event is this **Wednesday, Nov. 13th from 7-8:30pm.**The event is completely free (except for the beer).

White dwarfs are the final stage of evolution for stars like our Sun. Normally, white dwarfs are stable. However, when they exhibit weird behavior such as pulsation, magnetism, or interactions with other stars/planets, it allows us to investigate the physics of the white dwarf. Join us as UNC Chapel Hill PhD student N. Berry highlights how we mine for these unique white dwarfs within MORIA: The Medial Overlooked Region’s Intermediate Area.

Don’t forget to get there on time for a quick round of astronomy trivia and special prizes!

There is always lots of time to ask questions and interact with the presenters and other scientists who inevitably stick around for the beer. We can’t wait to see you there!

Durham PD & Durham Co. Sheriff’s deputies just did a high speed chase through residential neighborhoods

This went on for about 10-15 minutes throughout East Durham. They chased a black minivan at insanely high speeds through our neighborhoods. Finally ended in a crash on Alston, lots of first responders now. Who the hell thought this was a good choice? What is the policy on high speed chases in densely populated neighborhoods?

Wedding Reception Fall 2025 Suggestions

We are looking for an evening location for a reception only for fall of 2025. This will be a more low key wedding however we're expecting up to 175 people. Ideally it would be an indoor location with the options for food drinks and space for a dance floor. Any suggestions? We are trying to keep this low cost.

Looking to adopt a new furry family member?

Looking to adopt a new furry family member?

We took in a local stray and she ended up having kittens (September 1st). Due to local rescues and shelters being full--we have three kittens available for adoption!

Pictures, descriptions, and adoption requirements can be found in the interest form below. If you complete the form, please allow a few days for me to review.

Preference would go towards those who already have a cat/kitten-friendly animal in the house, or those who would like to adopt more than one of the kittens.

If you have any questions, please feel free to let me know!

Why Are Cities Still Spending Big on Convention Centers? (Durham Mentioned)

In less prominent markets, Buffalo and Cleveland have recently renovated their convention centers. In Durham, N.C., which has a convention center, officials are planning to spend $315 million to build a new one, as well as an additional $225 million for an adjoining hotel.

Where are people getting their CO2 cans refilled now that full City Homebrew has shut down? I've heard of Arc 3 but wondering if there was anything closer to South Durham?

Jinkx and Dela Holiday Show

Went to the Jinkx and Dela Holiday show tonight at the DPAC. Loved every moment. I’m curious if they planned on that ending pre the presidential election results. Maybe they had two endings planned? Maybe they made a huge pivot last minute? Thoughts?

Is there any pro trump businesses that I can support since there’s a post about only supporting Harris supporting businesses I figure I just do the same except for trump.

Guitar lessons for adult?

Hi y'all! I'm interested in learning to play guitar.

I've done a cursory search online in the area to try to find places I might be able to do lessons, but I keep coming up with options that are geared towards kids.

Anyone have recommendations for local places (or people!) that do beginner guitar lessons for adults?
