I (35F) recently found out that I am pregnant with my first and I'm looking for personal recommendations for OBGYN in the area. I live in Raleigh, but I am willing to commute to Apex and Cary. My current medical provider (WakeMed) does not have any available appointments until the end of December which will be the end of my first trimester. I would really like to see a provider before that time. It is my understanding that I am classified as "high risk" due to may age (i'm closer to 36 now) and this makes me somewhat anxious.

Any words of guidance/advice during this time is welcome since I have no idea what I am doing. Lol

I can't see the fireworks from where I am (off Brier Creek Parkway) but I can here them really close. Just curious what's the occasion and where they're actually being shot from. Seems a bit close to the airport.

For the City of Oaks Marathon tomorrow, are spectators allowed to watch the marathon anywhere along the route? The map on their website only has specific spectator locations designated downtown but I would like to watch around mile 13/19.

Hi all! I’m a slower runner. My pace is usually 12-13 min. Does anyone have any recommendations for run clubs that are welcoming to slower runners?

Edit: I’ve found some online but I want to make sure they’re actually good for my pace. I don’t want to show up and be the slowest one left behind.

Recommendation for a clean hotel with comfortable bed and bathtub… I looked at the Renaissance Hotel. The reviews looked good and it was close to lots of shops. I must add my appointment is near the Duke Raleigh Hospital so something in that direction and I will be driving in from SC if that helps. Normally my appts are in Durham and we stay at the cute boutique hotels downtown but want to stay in Raleigh this time cause we never go there… help please!!!!

It’s the last weekend before Election Day. Campaigns that are sitting on hoards of signs that they haven’t placed yet are starting to realized they’ll be like expired milk on Wednesday. A ton of them will be appearing in medians, on roadsides, etc over the next couple of days.

Inspiration for this post: this afternoon I went for a hike on a local trail. As I came back to my car after about an hour and half there were both Kamala and Trump signs at the entrance that weren’t there when I started my walk.

Trump is holding a rally at Dorton Arena on Monday (Fair Grounds), with his remakes scheduled to begin at 10AM. Figure some time for him to get from the car to the stage and then from the airport to the venue and the result is that I-40, Wade Avenue and possibly 440 could easily be closed for some amount of time between 8:00AM to 9:30AM or during the peak of Monday rush hour. In short, I'd suggest planning accordingly for a traffic mess from hell on Monday morning.

Hello! We just bought a house on the 30th, and the earliest I can opt for start date was 6th as Raleigh Water needs five business days. And the old owner stopped their service today, 2nd of November. And I just noticed I have no water in the house; thankfully we're not moving for a couple weeks.

And to the Q - am I right in that Raleigh water stopped our service; is it possible to do so remotely? And can I call them Monday and ask them to adjust my start date to 4th (from 6th)?

So yesterday my wife and I attempted to drop off our absentee ballots at this location and we were met with some problems from the election judge David who was overseeing this location.

We will skip the issues my wife had as she was missing some of the documents needed.

However I had the entire ballot completed in the envelope with the witness signatures able to be added and the voter ID form.

However he explicitly told me “I cannot guarantee that your absentee ballot will be counted.” This was followed by “You need to wait in my line to guarantee your vote will be processed and you need to hand me your current ballot to be destroyed as you can’t have two ballots at any time.”

We abruptly left and went to a different location (Wake County Board of Elections office) and my ballot was taken with no issues.

Thought back over the whole ordeal and definitely got the feeling in hindsight that this David definitely had a bias against mail-in ballots as if I was somehow trying to “cheat”. Moreover he said a few times “Are you sure you’re registered to vote?” which was a weird thing to ask as I am literally holding a valid ballot so of course I’m registered.

Just wondering if anyone else has had any similar interactions this year.

EDIT: To be clear my ballot was processed at the Wake County Board of Elections office where I filled out an additional sheet of paper with name/address and date/time and I dropped it in the box. No waiting in line and no hassle at all.

EDIT 2: Because many people seem to think I was doing something incorrect. The absentee ballot explicitly states it can be dropped off at an early voting location. I was following the directions outlined on the ballot I received. I had no issues with the 2 witnesses or the Voter ID requirement. I simply wanted to drop off my completed ballot per the instructions and leave and David refused me.

Every commenter stating that absentee ballots aren’t processed till the BOE meets and reviews them is wrong. This election official at best was incorrect and misinformed and should not be in charge of a voting location and at worst was attempting voter suppression by trying to have me let him destroy my ballot and wait in a 2 hour line to “guarantee” my vote instead of just accepting my completed ballot.

You can vote at any early voting location in the county today. Lines have typically been longer in the western half of the county. So if you want to save a little time, drive a little bit further and find those short lines in Wendell, Garner, Knightdale, Zebulon and southeast Raleigh.

My BallotTrax is showing my ballot was picked up by USPS on 10/25 and still has not been received by the Wake County Board of Elections.

I’m probably going to get some flak for this - wasn’t planning on voting. But I changed my mind. I tend to stay away from politics cause it causes a real divide in the family - enough where family won’t talk to each other.

1. How do I check to see if I am good to go at the polls? - I’ve received some texts saying I am but I don’t want to click on random links - I want to try and do early voting

2. Can someone give me the run down on local /state elections - I have not been following. Who are the 100% red flags?

3. Besides my ID, can I take my phone to the booth so I can have my list ready of who I want to vote for ?
