Home to the students, alumni, professors, staff, and fans of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. It's a #GDTBATH 🐏
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is the first public university founded in the United States of America. Since opening its doors in 1789, UNC has grown to become a gorgeous southern campus sprawling over 729 acres.
With over seventy different majors and minors, UNC has consistently been ranked in the top five public universities in the United States.
UNC's Men's Basketball team has won six national championships since 1957 and is especially renowned for being Michael Jordan's alma mater. Most importantly, UNC is a far, far better institution of higher education than its unfortunate neighbor, Dook.

Hi,
I'm a likely incoming freshman in the fall. I was wondering if there are class group-chats circulating with other freshmen, or if it's a word-of-mouth thing? As an out of state student I'm a little bit worried I'm out of the loop.
Is there an in-house chat app (i've seen "patio" referenced in old threads), or will this kind of thing be found more easily once regular decisions are out?
Thanks
Any advice or resources on prepping for tests in these classes? I have Loeb for Psych and Gaudier Diaz for Neuro. TIA!
I have my first two tests in these coming up. Any advice or resources to study for Psych (Loeb) or Neuro (Gaudier-Diaz)? TIA
My SAI is -1500 does this mean I get Covenant or could is my css still needed
Planning on applying for fall 2025, should I put my highschool extracurricular on there too? I’m applying for sophomore transfer.
I have a lease expiring in May and am looking for roommates to rent starting in/around June. I am not a graduate student, but I graduated from my undergrad last year, so I am a similar age. I am working at a small software company nearby. I have a motivated and frugal mindset, and prefer international student roommates. I’m almost never in the room. Feel free to comment or DM
Hi, I am an incoming freshman who was offered assured enrollment in the business program. I'm super excited but am curious to know more about the culture at KF. I don't know any current students, so I'd love an honest opinion on how cutthroat/competitive the environment is, especially compared to the rest of the school or other top business schools. Is it true that all people talk about are internships?
I'm an OOS student, so I'm a bit worried about not having a support system or good friends. Thank you!
Hey I got waitlisted recently to UNC Chapel Hill. I have a 3.98 unweighted GPA and a 4.457 weighted. I worked at the movie theatre in my town, I have a 1430 SAT, I have experience in the profession I want to go into through volunteering and also some shadowing. I have also hosted a charity basketball tournament and I have volunteered in schools. I am president of chess club. I also am in Math honor and English and Beta club. I was wondering if I have a chance of getting in and when would that decision come around? Edit: I am also in the IB DP program
I applied to C-Step last fall, got rejected around Halloween, and after some wallowing and despair I'm trying to look forward. I have another year(25-26) at Wake Tech, so I've got some time to figure out alternatives, but my heart is still with UNC. Not for any romantic notions of what UNC is like, but because of the courses available for my intended course of study(English - Creative Writing). I have literally compared every single UNC system school's creative writing program, and none of them shine like Chapel Hill's does, at least in my opinion.
My academic history is...complicated. I attended NCSU for a year, 2013-2014, and was academically suspended(bipolar disorder emerged at 19, didn't handle it well). I tried a single semester at Wake Tech Fall 2014 and did terribly(withdrew from 3 courses, got a D in 1)--I was still unmedicated and not being treated by a therapist, only now I had a full time job and bills to pay, woohoo! Yeah, so I just kind of quit school for a while, focused on getting myself right. I got medicated, got myself into consistent therapy, worked a few different jobs(always stayed for at least a year, performed above and beyond my peers), and eventually followed my dream to become an author. I was successful at that(top 300 overall books on Amazon, six figure earnings), and after a while I started thinking about turning my books into video games. Decided to enroll at Guilford Tech for their Sim & Game Dev AAS, got straight A's part time for several semesters, but struggled with feeling unchallenged and like I was learning more about game dev on my own than I was in class. But now I had the experience of actually succeeding in college classes, which opened me up to trying for an Associate in Arts with the goal of finally getting my Creative Writing degree. I have goals of eventually moving from self-published to traditionally published, and the connections you can make in a good Creative Writing program are inherently valuable to that. I'm also interested in getting an MFA in Creative Writing, and I'd be lying if I said I hadn't looked at University of Denver's PHD. Changed degrees last year, switched from part time to full time, and I've still got that 4.0. Transferred to Wake Tech this spring after moving, I'm now in the process of retaking that course I got a D in back in 2014, so I'm gonna erase that off my GPA and hopefully keep my 4.0. I've got A's so far this semester, and while Gen Psych is a tough cookie, I'm feeling good about it.
So, yeah. 4.0 GPA, successfully self-employed, killer comeback kid story. I had my English professor review my essays before I applied for C-Step and she thought they were amazing, she didn't have any changes to suggest, just corrected some grammatical errors. (I don't know if you can tell, but I'm a comma addict). My letters of recommendation were glowing. Like, I actually cried when I read one of them, it was so kind and I couldn't believe how much that teacher believed in me. I also volunteer my time coaching up and coming authors interested in self-publishing.
I really thought I had a good chance, and that rejection letter was a punch to the gut. And I guess UNC policy is to tell you nothing about what you could've done better, because all I got when I called the number on my rejection letter was "we can't discuss the reasons behind an admission decision".
Only thing I can think to do is keep on maintaining my 4.0, continue to grow my business, and I'm planning on volunteering at a horse rescue for some verifiable volunteer hours since individually coaching authors isn't something I can put a contact number down for. My Myth in Human Culture teacher from last semester absolutely loved me, told me I was one of her all time favorite students, and she's promised to write me a letter of recommendation next year when I apply for transfer(assuming I don't develop a rock solid relationship with a Wake Tech professor by then).
So, I'm here to ask, what is the likelihood of someone(not me, personally, but generic someone) getting accepted as a regular transfer student after being rejected from C-Step?
And is there anything else I can do over the next year to improve my chances?

Has anyone taken BIO 240H before who wouldn't mind sharing their input for the exams? There's a lot of content we're self-studying and "fair game" for tests
i was recently accepted into UNC and put my academic interest as Biology on the common app. i am still unsure about what i want to do for sure whether that be pre med or CS. i know theres a separate process to get into the cs program at unc, but since i already got in as biology, i was wondering how i could switch and still do the cs pre reqs to apply as a cs major
My daughter has been accepted but not yet committed.
Yesterday we toured campus for our second time. And once again, we were taken aback by the number of seemingly homeless people on Franklin Street.
Within minutes of arrival we were solicited for money, saw another person sitting on the ground vomiting in their own lap, and two others angry and arguing with each other while waiting for the bus.
How safe are the off campus walkable areas? Target, Trader Joes, bars and restaurants, etc. What should she expect on the regular when off campus?
My daughter is a senior in high school, has been accepted, and is considering committing.
She will graduate with 40 credits from AP and DE, all of which appear to transfer towards Gen Ed classes.
My question is specific to the media / journalism major which we understand is a program that requires another application process at a future time.
Assuming she keeps a full schedule each semester, will these credits set her up to be able to apply, and if accepted, enter that program earlier and subsequently graduate early? (compared to a 4 year path with zero transfer credits)
Hello! I'm an incoming international grad student at UNC starting in Fall 2025, and I'm super excited for this new chapter!
I've started looking for off-campus housings for 2025-26, but as someone new to the US housing system, I'm feeling pretty overwhelmed.
Making things even trickier, I won't realistically be able to visit places in person since I'll only be moving to the US in late Jul or early August at best.
Any advice or personal experiences would be much appreciated- thanks in advance!:)
For those who took the course, how much harder are the test compared to homework?

I’m applying to masters programs for the Fall 2025 semester but I don’t think I can get my recommendations in time for a February 11th deadline, I know that’s partially on me for waiting till now but it is what it is. The 3 year program has a later deadline but I was just wondering if people here know whether it’s a huge difference?
Alternatively I was also looking at the CRC program but from what I understand social work may be a bit more versatile. Although I am pretty set on eventually working as a therapist having options doesn’t hurt
I was wondering for this transfer application essay "Discuss an academic topic that you’re excited to explore and learn more about in college. Why does this topic interest you? Topics could be a specific course of study, research interests, or any other area related to your academic experience in college." what are some things they are looking for people to talk about? For example, do they want us to talk about a certain class we're interested in taking there? I'm looking to brainstorm a few ideas, thanks.
I’m a late bloomer, finished undergrad at 32 (NC Wesleyan), grad school at 38 (UNCG), and will be 55 when I complete the EdD program. It’s always been a goal of mine and yesterday I got accepted to the only school I applied to UNC!
Moral of the story, always be learning and if you really want to do something do it! Thanks for reading.
I’m an incoming freshman (maybe sophomore because I took like 12 early college classes throughout high school), and I was wondering what you guys thought about the Pride Place! How close is it to everything? How are the people there? Are there options for single rooms or are there only rooms with roommates? How easy is it to get into and what’s the process of applying? Any info would help!
Summer sublease for 1 bedroom in a 2 bedroom unit in Davie Circle off of Franklin Street.
My roommate is also subleasing, so if any friends are interested in subleasing the entire unit, please reach out!
I can send pictures via DMs.
Hi Everyone! I recently got accepted into UNC CGL Korea for Fall 2025. I was just wondering whether you all knew of people that were on the pre-med track and took this option? Did it hinder them in obtaining research/clinical opportunities by any chance? Any advice in general is greatly appreciated too about being a pre-med and studying abroad. Thank ya'll so much!
Hi! I’m a graduating senior this semester and I’m wondering how much graduation robes will be? I saw in another post that we’ll be able to start to order them in March but I’m wondering about the usual price of them. Thank you!!
Hi! has anybody done this study abroad and if so would you recommend?
Hi, I was admitted to UNC like a week ago + honors carolina. I'm aware that being a part of honors isn't worth a whole lot (from what I've gathered here), but I figured I would want to dorm in Cobb if given the opportunity since it seems like a really nice/clean dorm and is closer to classes.
I have a couple of questions about it though, and whenever I try to look it up I just keep finding the same threads I've already read.
How is the roommate selection process if I were to try and dorm in Cobb? Can I request a roommate from outside of honors for cobb, or would that not be allowed/I'd have to find another honors student? Is random roommate assignment worth it?
Is there any other website apart from Instagram to use to find roommates with similar priorities? Is there an option to find another roommate in Honors in that website (considering the first question)?
Let me know what you guys think. Thanks!
Will anyone be in Cambridge UK?
