Biomass, biofuels, bio-char... pretty much anything relating to anything you can do with biomass.

reusing carbon dioxide from fermentation

I am researching how to make a closed algae to bioethanol system. I was planning on both growing and fermenting the algae. When fermenting the algae, the yeast makes 2 main byproducts ethanol and co2. The algae like a co2 rich environment. Since this is smaller scale, I was wondering if I could pump the co2 from the fermentation back into the algae's growth. Since the fermentation has to be oxygen free, I think that it would be easy to just pump out the gas from the fermentation's container into the algae growth containers. I feel like I am rambling and uneducated, so please tell me why this doesn’t work.

Closed system algae biofuel is the communism of fuel, it sounds great on paper but in practice it is very complicated.

Question on Biomass heating.

Hello all, question on serial numbers for a biomass boiler, based in the UK. My supplier changed the serial number on a our biomass heater. Seems like a strange thing to do. Long story short, as it's in a nursing home, it has generally failed to work consistently, we get no alert that it is not working, so by the the time we realise, it takes to heat back up the home on the gas backup boiler. We are now trying to exit the contract as it is not performing as expected.

We noticed that during the contract the supplier had changed the serial number, what could be the reasons they did that?

Small Scale Energy Generation

My fabrication company (and many similar companies in my industry) produces about two 30 yard dumpsters of wood waste a month - mainly plywood and dimensional wood scrap. Are there systems out there for smaller companies like mine to convert our wood waste into energy? I can’t find much online.

What is the threshold for the amount of waste production to make it make sense? We could partner with other shops to increase the wood waste amount…

Im a student that made a plant dictionary list cause why not[UPDATE]

So for those who dont know I originally made this plant dictionary/list and wanted to share to the world cause idk Im kinda proud of it and I think it could be helpful😀 Anyways Ive updated it from feedback and suggestions I received from Reddit like adding filters(more coming), better search and an auto scroll. Hope you guys like it and if there's any other feedback lemme know! Cheers🥰

Studies of Lifecycle GHG emissions on Northern biomass projects?

Hey everyone, I work for a northern (North of 60) indigenous non-profit as an energy analyst. Previously, I was a project manager in the solar industry.

Something I'm interested in investigating is a pilot project for residential heating using biomass in off-grid communities. The predominant fuel source in these communities is oil and they have limited capacity to electrify heat, at least in the near future. There is no local supply chain for fossil fuels. Biomass could create a local supply chain that would provide jobs and lower carbon emissions and air pollution. At least, according to many of the claims I've read online about emissions from biomass.

However, I'd like to investigate whether or not this is factual. I've tried to do some googling but have come up short. I can't seem to find any study that inventories GHG emissions of a biomass project in a boreal region. Does anyone know of any study that attempts to analyze the GHG emissions. pollutants, maybe even cost effectiveness in comparison to fossil fuels in a northern region?

I understand there is a lot of concern with cutting down old-growth forest in Europe and the idea that it's not actually carbon neutral to manufacture pellets. But I think the concept of small, northern communities developing a program like this is a slightly different context.
