We will plant a billion trees, one at a time.
The Reforestation Reddit
Reforestation - the natural or intentional restocking of existing forests and woodlands that have been depleted, usually through deforestation.
Reforestation can be used to rectify or improve the quality of human life by soaking up pollution and dust from the air, rebuild natural habitats and ecosystems, mitigate global warming since forests facilitate biosequestration of atmospheric carbon dioxide, and harvest for resources, particularly timber, but also non-timber forest products.
Sometimes the term re-afforestation is used to distinguish between the original forest cover and the later re-growth of forest to an area. Forestation is the establishment of forest growth on areas that either had forest or lacked it.
Special tools, e.g. tree planting bars, are used to make planting of trees easier and faster.

We've bought an old farmhouse in NW France and want to turn the 3 hectares (about 8 acres) of fields into a forest for wildlife. I'm finding it hard to get land management information is that isn't agroindustrial farming or large managed single species woodlands.
Is there a good guide to the basics of planning, planting and supporting a mixed wood forest on a small scale?
And even basic land stuff, eg as the autumn storms have hit we've seen one part of the fields get very wet and waterlogged and we were considering trying to cut some swales or create natural streams that could coordinate the water better and support biodiversity. But everything I find online is for managing fields for intensive crop growing. Is there any good keywords to throw in? "natural"? "permaculture"? Something?
Thanks! And sorry if this is a stupid question, but I don't know where to start!
This 35 acre farm is a mix of grassland on exhausted soils, scattered fruit trees, and a beautiful hillside of dense secondary forest. I plan on reforesting the grassland. Balsa makes a great starter forest because it grows so quickly and can provide much needed shade allowing native plants to move back into the area.
I want to start planting trees near a barren hill that's close to my hometown. What should I keep and mind when doing that? I live in the Balkans, so I was planning or planting birch trees and some oaks. Thanks!
When trees are removed by fire the soil dries out, making natural regrowth challenging. Nothing conserves soil moisture as well as a forest. Trees pump that water into their needles or leaves, expelling some of it into the air along with organic compounds, which humidify the air and help seed more rain. By using felled tree logs, you can create a garden that accumulates debris and water over time, speeding up revegetation. I'm doing that in Colorado. https://www.facebook.com/ColoradoDIYForestRestorationLT
Does anyone know how to search for successful tree planting/reforestation projects? If a company wants to sponsor a reforestation project as part of their sustainability action how can they check the credibility of different projects? Especially after the recent article in the Guardian questionning the credibility of carbon offsetting schemes, it seems like there is a need for transparency in this sector. I saw the Mongabay had a Reforestation app but it doesn't seem to work.
Great video with info and humor
Title basically. Looking for information on what should be the ideal age tree to create an afforested area.
