We will plant a billion trees, one at a time.
The Reforestation Reddit
Reforestation - the natural or intentional restocking of existing forests and woodlands that have been depleted, usually through deforestation.
Reforestation can be used to rectify or improve the quality of human life by soaking up pollution and dust from the air, rebuild natural habitats and ecosystems, mitigate global warming since forests facilitate biosequestration of atmospheric carbon dioxide, and harvest for resources, particularly timber, but also non-timber forest products.
Sometimes the term re-afforestation is used to distinguish between the original forest cover and the later re-growth of forest to an area. Forestation is the establishment of forest growth on areas that either had forest or lacked it.
Special tools, e.g. tree planting bars, are used to make planting of trees easier and faster.

Transparent forest data is key to effective climate action! The FAO's CBIT-Forest project, in collaboration with UNDP, is empowering countries to meet the transparency requirements of the Paris Agreement by enhancing the collection, analysis, and sharing of forest data.
Schubert et al. (2024) reveal the successes and challenges faced by organizations in adhering to reforestation best practices. While many acknowledge the importance of measurable goals and community involvement, only a few provide detailed monitoring and long-term plans. Only 38% of organizations in the study report quantitative measures of the benefits to local communities.

We've bought an old farmhouse in NW France and want to turn the 3 hectares (about 8 acres) of fields into a forest for wildlife. I'm finding it hard to get land management information is that isn't agroindustrial farming or large managed single species woodlands.
Is there a good guide to the basics of planning, planting and supporting a mixed wood forest on a small scale?
And even basic land stuff, eg as the autumn storms have hit we've seen one part of the fields get very wet and waterlogged and we were considering trying to cut some swales or create natural streams that could coordinate the water better and support biodiversity. But everything I find online is for managing fields for intensive crop growing. Is there any good keywords to throw in? "natural"? "permaculture"? Something?
Thanks! And sorry if this is a stupid question, but I don't know where to start!
This 35 acre farm is a mix of grassland on exhausted soils, scattered fruit trees, and a beautiful hillside of dense secondary forest. I plan on reforesting the grassland. Balsa makes a great starter forest because it grows so quickly and can provide much needed shade allowing native plants to move back into the area.
