Patterns of substance use and opinions on access to substance use therapy in the UK’s LGBTQ+ community (18+, LGBTQ+ people currently living in the UK only)

We have nearly reached our target sample of 150 participants, thanks to everyone who has shared and taken part so far!

Participants are wanted for a research study on substance use within the LGBTQ+ community in the UK, conducted by London South Bank University.

This study aims to capture information about substance use within the LGBTQ+ community across the UK to better understand patterns of substance use and factors that may be associated with seeking help. This study aims to not just look at the community as a whole, but to also focus on potential differences in substance use and help seeking between those with different gender and sexual identities.

The study will consist of a series of questions and questionnaires covering the following topics: sexual and gender identity, the use of the following addictive substances: alcohol, nicotine, cannabis, cocaine, MDMA, amphetamine, and heroin, mental well-being, and attitudes about seeking help. This should take approximately 15 minutes to complete.

I found out my boyfriend has a hidden porn addiction and caught him on grinder messaging trans women. Should I even bother considering staying with him?

My boyfriend and I have an amazing relationship and he is literally everything I wanted in a man and treats me like his entire world. so imagine my shock when i see the grinder app on his phone one random day. he immediately confesses and says he has a porn addiction and it has been a problem since he was in high school. In terms of the app I guess porn wasn't cutting it for him anymore so he decided to download it and actually message people. He thinks because his face and name and nothing about him is attached to it it's not "real" and is also in the umbrella of his addiction. He says he has massive shame when it comes to the type of porn he watches and as he got older it just became more intense videos and more "taboo" topics and that he's not even sure he really wants that. He said that he had this problem before we were dating as well but stopped when we started and then started back up again when he was depressed and alone on a work trip. He said he's never met up with anyone and never would but i don't know if I can get past this. to me messaging it seems like it's too far. It's not just watching, it's DOING. does anyone have any experience with porn addiction that can tell me if it's an "impulse" and part of his addiction as he only used it to jack off

He is seeking help and is doing everything he can to get me to forgive him but I don't know if I should. I've never been in this situation before. :(

Bf watches trans porn. What does this mean for our relationship?

I’d like to state that I am a(26F) dating straight (25M)

My boyfriend and I have been dating for a year and a half now and a few months ago I found out that he was messaging a Femboy from the Grindr app. He went out of town for work and met up with him and was on the giving end of things. He openly admitted this to me and stated that he does in fact have a thing for Femboys but doesn’t consider himself gay/bi/pans. He says he is straight. We had a very adult conversation about and I was extremely supportive of this. I love my boyfriend and he’s a great man and I hate that I can’t provide this desire and or fantasy for him. I decided to move past this and continue with the relationship.

Fast forward to lastnight…. I went to set an alarm on his phone and saw that there was “Tgirls porn” on his safari tabs. I’m at a total loss at this point because it seems his sexuality is all over the place. He’s had sexual encounters with Femboys and is watching trans porn. Nothing wrong with it but I just feel a bit insecure here is all. I don’t really know how to address this or if I even should address it. We seem to be able to communicate very well on all topics so I’d like to have a conversation about it but not sure how to bring it up. What does this mean for me? I feel as if I cannot satisfy my man or give him what he wants/needs? Someone with better understanding please give me some advice. Is this normal behavior when a man has a porn addiction?

Academic Survey: An investigation of the effects of internalized homophobia on queer cis-males and females (intended for queer cis-males and females that are over the age of 13)

Hello! I'm a year 12 student in Society and Culture, currently doing my research project on the effects of internalized homophobia on queer cis-males and females. Internalized homophobia describes the experience of consciously or unconsciously accepting homophobic biases and applying these biases to yourself.

The survey looks over agents of socialization like the media, peers, family, and religion. While the survey covers these potentially sensitive topics, please KNOW you do not have to provide any sensitive information, nor does it have to be extremely detailed! That being said, I hope you'll consider doing my survey.

Surveying the Impact of Risk and Protective Factors on Psychological Functioning in Gender and Sexually Diverse Youth (ages 13-17)

Please see the info below! We are very close to our required number of participants!

We are still recruiting for a new study about the experiences of gender & sexually diverse individuals ages 13-17!

There has been a lack of research highlighting the distinct experiences of SGM youth as well as efforts to identify how these experiences affect each of these groups differently, continuing to facilitate a lack of awareness in various professional communities. Additionally, much of the available research has excluded sexualities that do not conform to the gender binary (e.g., pansexual, asexual, and queer individuals), which may cause harm to our understanding of distinct experiences between SGM groups.

The purpose of the study is to learn more about the problems young people experience as well as the things that increase and decrease those problems. Results of the study may help professionals like teachers, doctors, and therapists better serve youth from all parts of the spectrum.

If you are interested, here is a link to the survey: https://lsu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_5nFkB2bXbWGm09o

Participation is completely anonymous and should take no longer than 20 minutes to complete. As a thank you for their time, participants have the option to complete an unlinked survey if they would like to be entered in a $25 gift card raffle. It is made up of multiple-choice questions about your experiences in addition to a few open response questions because your voice is the most important.

For more information, see the study flyer here: https://lsumail2-my.sharepoint.com/:b:/g/personal/mhanse8_lsu_edu/Edmw21T-g-tPqhXU31KYJkQBJzzhlNz-cGgkSuns3ONK_w?e=318dWw

Please share the survey link and/or flyer if there is someone you know who may be interested in taking the survey! If you have any comments, questions, or concerns, feel free to contact me (mhanse8@lsu.edu).

Thank you for taking the time to read about our study! (:
