Please let me know if this rings a bell for anyone.
At around 11 PM Sun Oct 20 2024 my friends and I were walking across Bynum Bridge and back. After we crossed the bridge we decided to go check out the mill (is it a mill?) that's to the left. After walking over the cemented part of the path we got to the clearing area where you now have to cross grass-- when we froze.
I saw what looked like 6 pairs of eyes, brighter than I've ever seen in my life (I was wearing headlamps) looking at me. I know what deer eyes look like when shown a headlamp and they didn't appear like deer to me. It was so freaky because my first conclusion was someone put like LEDs on the tips of wheat in the field. It was even freakier because I couldn't see the bodies of these eyes-- literally just the eyes which was weird for the headlamp. The closest thing that I can imagine is like really bright owl eyes (imagine a pair of eyes that are flat on a face vs. on either side of a nose like how a deer is).
My friend who was a few feet behind me at an angle saw three white stocky figures-- which checks out because he would've only seen the first three closest pair of eyes since the rest were further behind. His exact first words when he saw them where "Klansmen".
(worth mentioning that I definitely do not think that these were human since the eyes reflected like an animal's would)
A third friend was way back behind us and didn't see anything.
After around 30 seconds of my brain trying to make sense of these mysterious eyes we just started running.
I come to this bridge pretty often at night and have never seen anything like this. I've also encountered groups of deer at night and this isn't what they look like.
Sharing this post because I'm not quite sure what it was that we saw tonight but just sharing it for the record and if someone else had a similar experience.

For over 85 years, SECU has been a crucial financial resource for state employees, teachers, and their families. Every member, whether they were a university president, teacher, office worker, maintenance worker, janitorial staff, or even the Governor, received the same respect and concern. SECU offered the same loan rates and savings rates to everyone—rates that were, for much of that time, the best around.
However, three years ago, things changed. The SECU Board implemented new policies that have shifted SECU away from being the credit union for all members.
Last year, three long-time member-nominated volunteers ran for the SECU Board and successfully defeated three incumbents who had been self-selected by the Board. This year, we have another contested election, with four member-nominated candidates running to return SECU to its roots. These candidates—Jean Blaine, Susie Ford, Julian Hawes, and Kirby Parrish—are committed to bringing SECU back to basics.
Here’s why they are running:
1. End Risk-Based Lending and restore the same, best loan rate for every member.
2. Bring back competitive savings rates for all members.
3. Restore SECU’s core principle of “doing the right thing” for every member.
4. Refocus on local communities—local jobs and local decision-making for the benefit of all.
5. Rebuild employee faith in fairness, equal opportunity, and quality service for every member.
This election will determine if SECU returns to its founding values, where every member receives the best rates for loans and savings.
For more information about the candidates and how to vote, visit secuforall.com. Voting is open from September 3 through October 1.
As the text says, moving from Japan to Pittsboro and getting conflicting news about the drinking water situation.
From the official Pittsboro NC website, apparently there's no need to worry but would appreciate if local people could give me their opinions.
We recently lost our dog and I would love to donate her unused meds, supplements, food (she was on a special diet for her kidneys) and toys to somewhere that could really use it. Does anybody know of a local shelter where I could donate these things?

Hi yall, we have 2 rooms available for rent in Pittsboro. We’re right off the highway, and it’s a super nice place. Preferably looking for early 20-late 20 year olds.

Hello everyone! My husband and I have well water in Pittsboro and are looking to have it tested for PFAs, and possibly GENx… but it’s so expensive. We looked into general testing from Chatham County ($150 total), but it didn’t include PFAs which is important in our area.
I’ve looked into PACE labs but have a feeling the quote will be a bit high. Does anyone have resources? Thank you so much ❤️

Are there any slacklining groups in the Triangle? I just went to one in Austin that meets every Friday. About 30 people popped in and out, and they set up multiple lines, aerial ribbons, and some rings. It was an adult playground. Would be great to start something here.
And if there aren't, would folks be interested in a weekly gathering? Are there any local parks or other areas that would make for good meetups?
I know bicycles have the same rights to the road as a car, but cyclists are fools for riding on country roads that do not have a bike lane.
The speed limit is 55mph. Most cars are doing 60 or 65mph. The roads are curvy and narrow. All the sudden, a car comes around a curve and has to slam on brakes because there are two fucking idiots on bicycles going 10mph and taking up the whole lane.
Yes, you are legally able to ride your bicycle there, but should you? You are going to get killed and the driver of the car is going to go to jail because you wanted to play a stupid game.
"But, I have the right of way!" - Idiot in spandex
The cemetery is full of people who had the right of way...
I would love to be able to go into downtown but I don't feel safe with the highspeed cars. (I'm in Powell Place)
I’ve heard a distant humming noise this morning, maybe some kinda of construction? Anybody else heard this or is it just me muha?
Was hoping I could get some recommendations on where I may find some decent camping spots if I’m unable to go until Friday AM. I figure the good spots are snatched up quick and I worry I won’t be able to even find a spot for my vehicle and two tents.
What’s the best options for internet around here. I don’t have any major providers available. Right now we have viastat and it’s horrible. Can barely stream a show. I know starlink is available but the $600 start up seems crazy….anybody have luck with it?
I don't know about you all, but I finally feel that the water is safe to drink. I've read up on all the filtration in place, and I think they've done the best they can do. Pittsboro actually has award-winning water!!! We are way ahead of the curve!
Hey y’all, I’m looking for somewhere to rent in Pittsboro or even on the outskirts of town. I had an eviction about two years ago, which is mainly taken care off but looking for recommendations. Thanks in advance
The air is extremely smokey in North Chatham today.
The title says it all. I need an attorney for a traffic infraction. Recommendations please.
I’ve got a 4hp Mercury 4 stroke outboard engine that I can’t get started. Ready to get out and catch some crappie but this thing is bumming me out!
