I am considering moving to Boone. My work experience is in IT and Help Desk positions. Are there any companies that regularly hire for their Help Desk?
Helene Help
I live in North Western NC. My elderly mother in law is looking for any groups or volunteers that would be willing to help stabilize her deck that was affected by the flood. She’s been turned down by one local group. Does anyone have any resources or suggestions?
Hello! I will be going to Boone around mid November and was wondering if anyone knew of some more quiet hikes that aren’t crowded as I am planning on proposing to my girlfriend. Any recommendations would help greatly thank you!
Are there any good neighborhoods here that will do traditional door to door trick or treating tonight?
Any other fun kids events outside Boone Boo?
Hi folks!
I am a newly-freelancer web developer looking to build my network as I grow my business!
To that end, I was thinking of designing free websites for people in exchange for a referral!
I am coming from an agency background so once we have the initial design hammered down we can discuss some of the juicier stuff like custom apps, search engine optimization, and the like if you would be interested in taking it all the way!
My real specialty is in building funnels that get people to convert and keep buying from you, and building a sleek website/landing page is one of those key steps in that process.
But yeah, drop a comment if you need a new website or a revamp of an existing one!
Looking forward to connecting!
So how are things going in Boone? What is the status of the Walmart? Are there still a lot of places shut down? How do things compare to pre-Helene?
Hi folks! My name is Ellie Heffernan, and I’m a reporter at 100 Days in Appalachia, an online publication that covers the entire region.
I’m currently seeking sources for a story about childcare and the upcoming election. I saw that the nonprofit organization Politisit (https://www.politisit.org/childcare-for-voters) offers reimbursement for up to two hours of free childcare for North Carolina voters heading to the polls. It appears they may be allowing more than two hours for folks in counties affected by Hurricane Helene.
If there are any folks from Boone using Politisit’s reimbursement, I’d love to hear from you!
Alternatively, I’d like to hear from any folks in Boone juggling child care while planning to vote.
Are you taking your children to the polls? Are you leaving them with family or friends? Is lack of affordable childcare an impediment to your ability to vote? Message me and let me know!
Hi, I am seeking recommendations for a one-stop design and contractor that can work on a single family residence in Wilkes County (I realize this /r is for Boone). Very short explanation: my family's home is currently unoccupied as my father and sole resident has entered into skilled nursing. We need to *quickly* mobilize to renovate the home to make it livable for him potentially receiving care at home in the future should that become possible. The home is over 100 years old and is not in great shape (water damage, dad smoked indoors, needs modern amenities placed, etc.), so it needs some serious TLC before he can come home. Hasn't been updated since probably the 70s.
We are seeking recommendations for architects or contractor companies that could work with me as the client to create a design plan and bring to fruition with little direct oversight from me. I live on the West Coast, and I will not be present frequently, so I basically need a trustworthy company that can be a one-stop shop for the entire redesign from tip to tail.
We would also greatly prefer companies that can prioritize maintaining the character of the home, using reclaimed materials, and perhaps most importantly can start working ASAP :)
Has anyone else been noticing a ton of ticks since Helene? I've only been seeing deer ticks, but in weirdly large numbers for this time of year. Do tick checks, y'all
I’m seeing all of this stuff about Boone opening up and that so good to see the recovery of it. I want to know if you feel like it’s time for tourists in Boone(not the surrounding areas). I do want to come eventually, but is it too soon?
Hiiii! I’m moving to Boone and desperately need to find a place to rent or buy. I would prefer to rent and stay close to Boone. Please let me know if you know of anything!!!!!! THANK YOU❤️❤️❤️❤️
I foolishly backed into another car, and it punched out one of the lights on the back, and bent/cracked my bumper in one spot.
I am an app state student, and also a woman so I’m a little standoffish when it comes to this kind of thing. Does anyone have any recommendations for body shops? I tried calling Hampton’s, but I think they got hit by the hurricane pretty bad.
Thank you for your help!!
What waterfalls are accessible to hike to right now?
Bright lights, construction equipment being run at night, mobile trailers. Any idea what is going on there? Most be something for the storm recovery.
Hello! Does anyone know when the laundromat will be back open? It’s the only one I know of around here. It says on Google there’s another on the opposite side of town, but I wasn’t sure if that’s updated/if that one’s closed too. Sorry I just really need to do a huge load of laundry and the ones at my apartment complex are always broken!
I’m an GWOT Veteran and former professional rescuer and military contractor. I grew up here. I currently live in Europe and I have a martial arts school there. I am looking to return to the states and I am trying to establish a student base. I hold the rank of Master in an FMA style called Askal Hybrid Arnis. It is in the Balintawak family/lineage. I have trained in the US and in the Philippines. I’m putting myself out there in every avenue possible, so here I am on Reddit.
To anyone interested, please DM me.
Or do any of the grocery stores mear departments do things like custom ground meat mixes and stuff like that?
I mean if you wanted ground short rib and brisket or things like that. Steaks of a certain thickness. Nothing too crazy.
Hii I’m trying to find a place I can’t donate clothes for free I have a lot that’s I’m getting rid of and I was wondering where do can drop them off to help people in need rn!
I'm interested in local lore and I know about the main things like the Brown Mountain lights, Green Park Inn, East Hall, and the "devil" dog but if anyone has anything paranormal related that is lesser known, please feel free to share 💀 🎃👻 also what are yalls plans for Halloween? Anything fun or spooky going on? Just kind of feeling like we all need a distraction and some fun.. Stay safe and sending hugs to everyone 💚🕷️
I mean jeez
Had a guy come by today from Watauga County - he said he was a tax assessor (which seemed legit, he had an ID and was driving a Watauga County truck). Said he was a tax assessor, and he was doing 2027 appraisal for assessment. He said they sent a letter announcing he would be coming today. I didn't get it but OK, maybe it looked like junk mail. All pretty ordinary so far.
But here's where it got weird - he wanted to come in the house, look at every room, and measure square footage. I have owned this home for six years and I have never had someone ask to come in before. I asked him what happens if I say no, he said that's fine, they'll do the assessment from satellite imagery and then left in a hurry.
Why would the county think the square footage of my home would have changed from the current assessment if I haven't filed for any building permits?
It feels intrusive for the county to ask me to let the tax man into my house to increase my already high property tax.
And he came at the exact same time the FEMA inspector was there (she had an appointment), which made it feel doubly weird.
Has anyone else had an assessor ask to come inside their home?
I just checked their Instagram page and saw that they are not operational. I am worried that they're not going to open their doors again. I'm not located in Boone anymore but that was one of my favorite stores in the area, and the owner truly cared about the local art and music scene. I saw that their Discogs page was wiped out as well. Does anyone have any more information about this?
