Hey guys! We're in town for the weekend. We've got a chainsaw, generator, 4wd truck, and water. If anyone knows of anything that needs to be delivered or wants power or some trees chopped, please reach out to me.
I'm currently a server in Boone. Do you think it's smart for me to get another job serving in CLT (where my parents live) and work there on the weekends? I don't think tourism will be any good for the next few months and I have bills to pay.
Hi everyone, just letting you know that Comfort Suites on 105 (beside Troys) has hot food available for anyone! These people came in from Taylorsville to help feed our community. Please come get your bellies full!
I signed up and was planning on coming up early tomorrow. First question is are the roads ok?(coming from Mooresville) Second is I haven’t really seen any feedback on volunteering for this organization. Their website says they really need help, but if one is to believe social media the locals want everyone to stay away. So just looking for general feedback before I make an attempt to come out.
Raleigh Aquarium Society member heading to Boone. What Aquarium Supplies are needed? We can also keep your fish with a member for the next 6-12 months. No guarantees, but we'll try our darndest!!
I finally have Internet back and went on Tik Tok for some dumb reason, and the stuff I’m seeing is absurd.
People are exploiting our situation and making up some WILD stuff about NC right now.
I saw at least 10 videos about people saying hurricane Helene was a man made hurricane to displace western nc residents because the government wants the land to mine lithium 🤦♂️… what’s worse than the videos is the literal millions of likes and comments from people agreeing. There’s people saying they “live there” and the governments made them leave and said they own the land now…
I just can’t comprehend how people are exploiting our towns for likes, and making up asinine stuff like this. And it’s scary how quickly it’s spreading and people are believing it…
…..
Also unrelated, someone let these rich Florida assholes know they need to stop driving up here to check on their million dollar 3rd/ 4th summer homes😂 we didn’t want them here before the hurricane and we definitely don’t need them driving here now lmao
Is there a donation spot across from Cove Creek store I will be heading to check on my house on Sunday and will have some donations to drop off
I’m on day 8 of no power…most of Boone places right outside of Boone have power. I’m right in Deep Gap and still no timeline of when it will be back on…I can see two major power lines down that are the cause of my power outages…I know winklers creek, Junaluska and other major roads still have power lines down that will be focused on first I Imagine. It’s just disheartening when the rest of town and my neighbors has clean water and power in their home. Yet I’m still left in the dark, going to work with no communication…please tell me I’m not the only one dealing with this
For those considering heading to the High Country to help with recovery, there are already a lot of relief workers on the ground there. Just showing up in Boone with a truck and a chainsaw may end in futility, as some have posted here. SO…
Your best bet: CALL (don’t email) organizations involved in WNC relief work and ask them how you can help with recovery.
This helps them get valuable resources (aka, you and your armamentarium of power tools) to places where they really need your help!
So many thanks to everyone who is posting information here, donating and wanting to serve in so many ways. Isn’t it interesting to see how many of us jump in to help total strangers get back on their feet…and no one cares who gets the credit?
5+ years of experience of tree removal and climbing. Will cut on the ground or hanging Pm me for more information.
And anything else in cove creek / sugar grove for that matter?
Will be coming up tomorrow morning with a truck full of miscellaneous supplies. Planning to take them to the Summit Pickleball Donation Intake Facility but was wondering if there are any better places to possibly get a little further into areas that need it more. Are there any fire departments that are accessible in places like Banner Elk Linville Newland etc that I can drop the stuff at or any other intake facilities?
Hey friends - are there any open facilities for non-students to take hot showers and do their laundry? Thanks!
I’m coming up to volunteer with an org this weekend. Is there cell service and gas available in town? More concerned about gas so I can make sure to bring extra if needed, but will also be good to plan ahead if communication is still limited. Thanks!
*update in case anyone else comes here looking for info on Boone - the town does have power in many places and gas. There’s a huge presence of volunteers and donations here. If you’re coming to help or drop supplies, have patience!
I had a prescription refill that was in progress and now the Walmart app says the pharmacy is permanently closed. I can make other arrangements for my medicine, but it was a little jarring to see that.
If there’s anyone who knows rural west Jefferson please message me.
I’m in the Piedmont and we’re doing what we can to send supplies to Boone and Asheville but I have an older friend I can’t get in touch with on the side of the mountain.
Can anybody tell me if power in back on in the Laruel Creek rd area? Thanks
Does anyone know if they are letting people travel to/from work outside of the posted curfew times? I live in Boone and work in Charlotte, and typically leave at 0300.
I am finally in a place where I can get out and help, but every place I went to in Boone had all of the volunteer help they needed and then some. I’ve got a few shovels and a wheelbarrow and I’m capable of moving debris, there’s got to be something that needs to be cleaned up. I’m tired of doom scrolling, I’m ready to do something. If you know somebody that needs help that is reachable with AWD and bald AF tires I’ll be there.
Linville Central Rescue is asking for folks to help support them by voting to help them win a 25k donation. Sign up for a voter link and vote everyday from Oct 2nd to the 17th. It's a very small ask for everything they are doing, and donations are welcome as well. Stay safe out there, and thank you to all those helping! https://supportlinvillerescue.com/
Hey folks, been talking with people around Boone swapping “Storm Stories” and I heard rumors that people have had to shoot warning shots at other people attempting to loot their home. Some people waking to find scratches on their locks from people trying to get in at night. I heard this from someone who is currently housing a family that just made it off of Beech mountain today after hiking out. Has anyone else heard anything like this? Sounds like the opposite of what I have experienced and seen all over Watauga. Just wanted to see if I’m the only one hearing stuff like this.
Boone - I am updating a live map of people who need urgent help in WNC. I've made contact with multiple volunteer groups, SAR groups, Cajun Navy, Operation Airdrop, and the mule train people.
Please comment if you or someone you know needs assistance, and I will add. Let me know if I can update a pin to indicate someone is safe. Please share this with folks on the ground, and I can send screenshots if needed of a specific area
