I released this last month about one of my favorite destinations on earth. I think I've been 10 times now? Always so sad to leave.
One of the best events on Ocracoke. Fun for the whole family. Pirate 🏴☠️ costumes encouraged.
Is there anywhere on the island to rent racquets? If not, is there anywhere to buy cheap ones? Would love to try out courts!
Found on highway 12 in front of variety store. Lmk if I can get this to you.
I took a friend down the OBX this past weekend and we weren’t sure where we were gonna stop-wanted to have a “go with the flow” adventure. We arrived in Ocracoke around 8pm and quickly realized most motels close around 5-6pm. This is just a friendly heads up to book your stay before arriving so you won’t have to unexpectedly car camp like we did 😂
To anyone who is going from the 1718 brewery in Ocracoke to salvo, Avon or waves, I left a BUNCH of souvenirs at the table and they put them behind the bar. I can meet anytime till Thursday morning!!! Please help a fellow forgetful human out!!!!!
I am planning a boat trip to Ocracoke this Saturday and looking for recommendations on where to anchor or dock a pontoon. Anchorage Marina is not offering day rentals due to the labor day weekend. Does anyone know if there are other docks that may be offering day rentals, or somewhere reasonably close to the town to anchor a pontoon and walk to the shops and restaurants?
We are planning a visit in October, we will be staying at the Ocracoke campground in a travel trailer. We are recently retired, have a small dog. After reading and watching as many videos as we could about Ocracoke, there are some things below I think we want to do. Also, not sure what is open/closed in mid October (thinking about October 19 for Ocracoke Working Waterman's Festival) time frame.
Boat tour to sand island on sound side. My better half get sea sickness very easily, ocean trips are just about a no go, I think. Are there any charters that go to islands on the sound side or where there are little to no waves? Suggestions?
Need outdoor dining with our dog, all meals. Suggestions? Any fine dining with outdoor seating that allows dogs?
Need to rent a golf cart. Suggestions?
1/2 day Fishing charter, just for one, could join group, better half a no go due to sea sickness. Suggestions?
Better half loves local made "stuff/crafts", any suggestions?
I see that metal detectors seem to be frowned on, I am guessing it is because of the need to dig holes to find anything but are there any places to rent a metal detector? Suggestions?
Driving on beach permit, where do I get one?
Anything I am missing, even if it is high priced?
Thank you in advance for any/all helpful suggestions!
Hello! We are arriving for another week on Ocracoke today and are short one paddle board paddle (long story). Does anyone have suggestions for where to rent or buy a paddle on the island?
Did you lose a bluetooth speaker today (8/2)? (And no, not THAT one 🤣 )
Message me if you did-- describe model and approximately where you were/had been so I can return to its rightful owner.
Hey ya’ll; Is there anywhere to rent fishing poles (for surf fishing) on Ocracoke (or Hattaras)?
We've been coming to Ocracoke for a long time. Love the laid-back atmosphere of the island and with it, the ability to kick back.
One thing I've noticed, especially after Covid, is that there are now only two places to get fine dining: The Back Porch and Flying Melon. By fine dining, I mean something like craft cocktails and no sandwiches on the menu. We don't need fancy-- not what I'm saying-- but we just want some local fish, prepared in an innovative (or at least interesting) way. Years ago, we could rotate among Flying Melon, Back Porch, Cafe Atlantic, and (the old) Dajio. Now, two of those have morphed into something more casual. (And yes, we've been coming here since before they were even able to sell liquor by the glass; but even then, there was still "fine dining.")
I do know that American dining has changed since Covid, especially, but it still is a little bit of a bummer. We are DINKs, so no need to feed young (or any) kids. I used to love hanging out during the day, reading at the beach, then coming back to shower to go out for a good drink and a nice dinner.
I know, too, that the loss of four restaurants overall-- the Island Inn (though that was a while ago); what was Capt. Ben's (on Hwy. 12, not the original-original near Harborside); what was Sargasso Grill (and several other things); and Jolly Roger-- meant that other places probably got to take advantage of those clientele who needed a meal.
Not complaining, just an observation. I love this place and appreciate everyone here who works so hard to house and feed those who descend upon their tiny piece of paradise every summer.
Has anyone else noticed this trend?
Keep checking the silver lake camera and it seems like it’s been raining all summer!
Could it have been military? Saw lights falling from. Pamlico Sound tonight (7.15) ???
I got some really good answers last time I asked something here, so I'm trying my luck again. I was wondering if there are any nice stories and anecdotes about Ocracoke that would make a visit more interesting. I'm looking for those unique tidbits that locals and seasoned visitors know and find fascinating. What are some things that most visitors might not know but would also find intriguing? Thanks in advance!
Can anyone tell me if the "Swan Quarter to Ocracoke" ferry runs in October? I am hoping it does but changes from "reservation required" to "first come first served"
The last date on the schedule says Sept 9 but that seems so early to stop running.
I was hoping to get some local insights and tips on great local businesses, shops, and restaurants to support when I visit Ocracoke later in August. Any suggestions from locals or frequent visitors? I appreciate it!
We will be coming off of the ferry at the north terminal from Hatteras with our bicycles, but don’t know how we will get the 13 miles to Hatteras Village. Can anyone help us?
Did a search and nothing came up. Is there a place to buy or collect firewood to make a (permitted) fire on the beach? I understand we shouldn’t bring wood from our home.
Are there any updates on construction here? I have searched here and other groups across platforms and only updates were from the end of last year. In maps it says permanently closed. I hope that is not true. We always loved hanging out there listening to Willis Gupton (RIP) sadly he has sailed off to the great paradise in the sky. Please let me know if they are still planning on rebuilding or if it is now no longer possible.
Hey guys my wife and I are planning a honey moon here in ocracoke. What are some fun things to do for a newly wed couple in thier 20s😂😂
Does anybody want to hang out with two gals mid 30s. One is heavier but both alot of fun!!!!
Years ago Howard's pub would be open much later than it is now. Are the online hours mistaken? Do people still go there at night?
