Hello! I am a computer science student, and I am taking CSC 242 in the spring. I have three options: Clayton Ferner, Karl Ricanek, or Terrence Hernandez. Does anyone have any advice for which one is the best pick? Thank you for your time.
need some help! im currently on track for pre nursing. i know the school is real competitive any recommendations for backups if im rejected?
I am a current CFCC student, planning to transfer to UNCW. I have decided I want to be a paralegal. However, I don’t have any idea what I need to do to achieve that. What are the classes I need to take while attending CFCC? What major should I pick? Any tips or information to help?? My counselor hasn’t helped very well.
I've been satirical regarding Galloway in the past, but I firmly believe they were in the wrong demolishing it now. When a building is heavily contaminated with carcinogens or the like, I understand tearing it down. Some of the PCB buildings that NC State keeps around are downright hazards. Let me make it clear. Galloway was not heavily contaminated. I read the bid documents, the only regions to be abated were ACM (Asbestos Containing Material) rumble padding for the HVAC and fire doors containing asbestos. Mention of mold abatement was minimal as well, take that as you will. Even if it were just renovated to house one student per room, that would be acceptable as well. A 200 bedroom budget housing arrangement that would likely still make money because the university is not still paying a lease on it (unlike the VAST majority of buildings on campus). Plus, it adds historical value to the campus. Alumni can visit and point at the building they lived at and fondly remember their times there, which builds campus culture. Galloway should not have been demolished. For reference, let's take UNCC's Sanford Hall as an example. Reading the bid documents for its demolition, you'll find that damn near every inch of that building is caked in asbestos. The window linings, HVAC rumble padding, fire doors, caulk, pipe insulation, ceilings, exterior paint, concrete pillars, concrete walls, sheetrock, carpet glue, and not to mention literally 70,000ft² of flooring tiles held down with asbestos mastic. It's all Chrysotile, so granted, at least it's not amosite or something worse. And as an added bonus, pretty much everything is painted with lead paint. That is a building that I would have a hard time justifying the renovation of. While it is important to the historical legacy of the university, the whole place was built full of asbestos. Even if it weren't made a residence hall strictly, there were a thousand other things we could have done with the building. It just needed some TLC. Concrete stairway and foundation rejuvenation, elevator replacement, ACM abatement, bathroom refurbishment. It could have been adapted into something great. We gave up that opportunity for what the future might bring, which, for the moment, seems to be a recently finished field of grass. I believe the sprinklers were on last time I passed it. Oh how quickly things change in this place we call home. I'm not asking for much, just asking that a college as storied and beautiful as this one gets treated better in its old age. Instead of taking care of it, we seem to be willing to ship it off to the nursing home.
I got a costume but I don’t have anywhere to wear it
To preface Im a freshman rn in prenursing at a local state school i dont really love, I applied to UNCW nursing last year and got rejected. Im not totally sure if ill stay in nursing but I think I will, I know UNCW nursing is competitive and I should probably check if its even possible to transfer into the nursing with my credits after this remaining year but really I just wanted to ask what you guys like and dislike about uncw after this semester is winding down.
tldr: I want to transfer to uncw, what do you like and dislike about uncw
Does anyone know of any good resources on campus or in wilmington for language learning? i’m not in any spanish classes yet so i guess the tutoring center won’t help me yet, so any suggestions?
Thanks!
I'm interested in a speech and debate club, but I don't know where the meetings are. Where can I find this, and when can I Show up?
This would honestly probably be the perfect school if it weren’t for the fact that a lot of people seem to be the frat/sorority type. I really hope this is just an exaggerated generalization… how has your socialization experience been?
I have anxiety and a 6 credit hour class seems so daunting. What could you possibly do for 2 hours a day in a statistics class?
Hi, I'm from India.
I'm applying for the Masters in Data Science Program at UNC Wilmington and the University of New Haven.
Is there anyone who took up this course? How was your experience?
Also, please comment on the following:
I had parked my scooter in the bike rack next to Pelican, and I come out today to see that it's gone. I had a ulock and assumed it'd be safe, but I found that on the ground so maybe i didn't lock it all the way. What do I do? I doubt it was impounded since I parked it out of the way , and it wasn't blocking anything, but just to be safe and check, where would I go for that? Should I just file a report with the campus police?
Anything helps, im real hung up about this because i love my scooter and that's $200 down the drain if i cant find it :(
Is there an actual debate group, political or otherwise?
Where can I sign up? I haven't been looking into student groups enough, and don't know where to find them.
Hey! I’m a junior at UNCW studying Business Development and Entrepreneurship. I'm working on developing a business idea i have and I’m seeking graphic design or film studies students with an entrepreneurial spirit who want to earn some extra cash while building their portfolios. I’d love to team up to create branding materials, like social media ads and short product commercials. If you’re interested, let’s connect!
I got a pink slip 2 weeks ago and got sanctioned a written warning and to Challenging Decisions. Is there a down side of appealing & can I get the written warning taken off? How likely is it?
Hi all, I'm looking into graduate programs to potentially enroll in for 2025. Is anyone currently enrolled in the MBA/MS BAN online program or recently completed it? What were your thoughts on the online format and overall experience with UNCW? For context, I graduated with my BS in Accounting in 2022 and have been working as a Staff Accountant, but would like to further my education to help me move into higher analyst and management roles. Any help would be appreciated!
Hey UNCW friends, I'm an NCSU student interning in Wilmington for summer 2025. I'm exploring places to live for the summer and would prefer an apartment or something where I'm hopefully living alone, like a studio apt or small house.
I'm a 36 year old guy, retired veteran (and a liberal! / LBTQ+ ally), and married (wife will be mostly staying in our house in the Raleigh area), so I won't be throwing any parties or whatever. Anyone leaving for the summer and want someone dependable with guaranteed income to take over a lease for the summer?
What are the honest reputations of the frats at UNCW? I’m planning on attending next year.
Anyone know?
I'm a parent of a prospective UNC-W student who is currently attending community college for general college requirements and planning to apply to UNC-W for Fall 2025. My student would like to double major in film studies and business with a marketing concentration. The business/marketing major is a backup to be able to use their film degree in a more practical way, working for a studio in marketing or for an advertising agency.
We attended the prospective student open house yesterday, and my student was pretty let down by the tiny table manned by 2 people (one adult, one student who did not speak at all) representing the film program. We were also told that we could not view the film school facilities that day, and that we would need to return on another day for a tour. We had driven halfway across the state for this open house and spent Friday night due to the early start, so this was quite disappointing. We also did not receive much information from what I assume was a teacher or administrator for the program, other than vague promises of internships and employment in the thriving Wilmington film industry. No showcasing of student films, and not a peep from the student at the table.
We expected a lot more for a school located in "Wilmywood" aka "Hollywood of the East".
There's not a lot here on Reddit about the film program, most of the posts are older, but I've gotten the idea that most UNC-W film graduates are not successfully working in the industry and that the major itself is focused on more analysis and writing about films than the process of filmmaking. Is this true? Is the school exaggerating about the availability of internships and jobs in the film industry for the students?
And as for the marketing program, it looks like they push students more into social media and digital marketing. My student would be more interested in creating movie trailers and commercials if they were to follow the marketing path (assuming a straight film career didn't work out). It didn't feel like there was going to be enough support at UNC-W for this. Is that perception correct?
I would really appreciate if current students and recent graduates could weigh in. Thank you!
Just as the title states. I’m debating on whether I want to go to a community college and transfer to UNCW after 2 years or just go straight to UNCW after high school.
I’m split between my decision because I don’t want to miss out on things if I’m transferring.
does anyone know the name of the paint colors for pelican/sandpiper? i’ve chipped some paint and i do not want to pay any fees!
