Very glad I switched to MBA 15 from MBP 14

This sub highly recommends the 14" MBP over the 15" MBA since it's "much better for about the same price". I disagree.

Context: I generally used 100+ Chrome tabs, a few IDEs open for programming, medium sized repos.

I recently bought a M1 Pro MBP 14 (got a great deal on eBay). It was blazing fast, felt nice in my hand, but lacked a bit on battery life (I now understand that this is a tradeoff of battery for performance since it has only 2 E-cores instead of 4 that the Macbook Air has). But my main irk is that the screen felt small. Worked great when using an external monitor, but I often don't have one with me.

Now I've switched to a M3 MBA and this machine is just absolutely *perfect*. It is wicked fast (I think feels somehow faster than the M1 Pro), and best of all this larger display is marvelous. If you're a consumer of content, you might not notice the benefit of a larger screen. But if you're using your machine for productivity (programming, editing videos, making music, etc)

If you usually work on an external monitor, you'd probably be fine with the 14 inch screen. But if you spend more than 25% of your time on the laptop screen and you're a programmer, I absolutely recommend the 15 MBA over the 14 MBP.

My MacBook Pro M2 Pro (Model A2779) isn’t turning on – no screen, MagSafe indicator, or touchpad response. Help needed!

Hi everyone,

I’m having a problem with my MacBook Pro M2 Pro (Model A2779) that’s always worked perfectly until now. I didn’t shut it down last time; I just closed the lid while working on a project. Since then, it’s been sitting unused for around five days.

Today, when I opened the lid, the MacBook was completely unresponsive: • There’s no display on the screen. • The MagSafe indicator light doesn’t turn on. • The touchpad doesn’t respond to force clicks. • I’ve tried connecting it to a USB-C charger for about 3-4 hours, but still no response. • I checked “Find My,” and it last detected the MacBook about three days ago.

Has anyone else experienced this? I’d appreciate any suggestions on what I can do to troubleshoot or fix this issue. Thanks in advance for your help!

Looking to purchase a new Mac ~ HELP!

I'm planning on purchasing a new MacBook in the next couple of weeks I'm just at a loss as to which one I should get. There are so many options out there now and I get easily confused when it comes to computers... I love Apple products and have been using them for the past 15 years. I really could use some suggestions as to which Mac would be best for me with what I intend to use it for.

List of the main things I will be using the laptop for:

• Editing pictures/videos • Storing pictures/videos to free up iCloud space (I have a 2 terabyte external hard drive) • Streaming music • Utilizing the pages app for Journaling • Utilizing the numbers app to create my budget • Creating a spreadsheet to balance my checking/savings account • Scanning all important documents to file and save as backup

~ I will also be going back to school after the first of the year and all my classes will be online.

I'd like to avoid getting something that I won't be able to use it for my intended purposes due to being too slow or whatever - I also know I don't need "top of the line"

One last thing: as long as I have been using Apple products, I am far from being proficient at using them and I have never been someone that is computer literate so, please keep that in mind.

Thanks for any and all suggestions and help.

Adding an external ssd for 50 $ on a Mac.

Im a tech newbie. Is there a difference for slapping on a 1Tb ssd for 50$ on a Mac mini for example instead of paying hundreds of $ extra for upgrading the ssd on the apple page ?

Which Macbook M4 should I buy for music and video production?

In between a better cpu and gpu and 24 ram and less cpu and gpu power but 32 ram, which one would you go for? They are around the same price, 2700€, that's my budget

I've also heard I should go for the 16" as it will have better air flow therefore better performance. I have a Macbook Pro from 2015 15" and I like it but 16" might be too big but if the performance is better for the price I feel I should give it a try and go for the 16". What do you think?

  • 24 GB ram
  • 1 TB SSD

Macbook Air Keyboard Replacement (2018 A1932)

Hi there,

Trying to figure out what the best option for a keyboard replacement on a Macbook Air would be. My spacebar has always given me grief and now my left shift key has bit the big one. I've watched a few videos on fixing the keys, but I can't get that to work anymore.

I've gotten a price in town of $350 + Tax CAD to replace they keyboard, but I also see one for $100 on Amazon. Wondering if anyone has any recommendations for where to get a good replacement keyboard or if they've had an experience with one of these Amazon ones. I'm fairly certain I'll be able to change it out myself. I used to be a PC / laptop tech years ago and there are lots of videos on Youtube of how to do that.

Thanks in advance for any input.

M1 MBA’s display RANDOMLY blacks out. NEED HELP.

My M1 MBA (bought in 2021) randomly blacks during watching a movie. The audio was still playing but the video was not. I can still see the “black” colour since it’s a LCD display.

Tried every method listed on YouTube and apple’s website, but all of them require the display to be working one way or the other. Please guide me on what to do next, TIA.

[The pink lines have been there ever since I got the MacBook, the display still seemed to work fine, though; what happens now is completely random.]

Discounted M3 Max vs new M4 Pro?

I am getting 2023 Apple 14inch MacBook Pro M3 Max ($3199) at a discounted price of $2600. Should I buy this or the new 2024 M4 Pro at $1999?

Should I buy M4 Mini 24GB 2024 as a M1 16GB Macbook Pro 2020 user?

Hi! I'm software engineer who loves macbook's mobility and power. Until new Mac Mini released, I did not think buying a new mac. However, I think both a macbook pro and mac mini can be useful in some ways. I constantly work from home, sometimes I get my macbook and work from a cafe for a couple of hours. Should I buy a Mac Mini in this case? What are the possible cons of it?

Considering an Upgrade: Is a MacBook M4 Pro (24GB) the Solution for My Increasing RAM Needs?

Hi everyone,

I’m a software engineer using a MacBook Air M2 (8GB) that I bought in March 2023. My usage has increased significantly since then. Initially, I was running two servers (localhost), but now I’m regularly running five to seven servers at a time. My RAM usage has hit its limit—just yesterday, Activity Monitor showed 8GB of RAM fully used and over 12GB in swap, which is causing my laptop to lag.

Would it make sense to upgrade to a MacBook M4 Pro with 24GB of RAM?

idk which one to buy

Hello!

I’m considering getting a new computer since mine broke a couple of months ago, but I’m unsure whether to buy a MacBook Air M2 or a Windows PC (I’m not very experienced in this area, so I’d appreciate any recommendations). The only Windows PC that caught my interest is the Microsoft Surface, but it’s a bit too expensive for my budget.

I need a computer primarily for daily tasks like studying (meaning I’ll need to upload a lot of books) and watching films. Occasionally, I might use it to play light games (like Minecraft or similar ones). Do you think the MacBook Air M2 would be a good choice?

MacBook Pro 2011 Trackpad Problem?

I’ve got a 2011 MacBook Pro, I formatted everything some time ago and since then occasionally charge and use it, last time I used it, about half a year ago, it worked perfectly fine.

Now I decided I want to sell it, I charge it and wanted to log in to delete my user profile. It started as usual, the mouse moves on the screen but I’m not able to click on the profile wether through the trackpad nor the click thingy (sorry idk the apple term for it) on the bottom. Am I just to stupid, is there an obvious solution?

Edit: I already tested restarting several times didn’t change anything.

How to secure the Macbook from theft? (except taking it with you, if you go to piss)

As Title says,

I am in a School right now and sometimes in the breaks, I want to leave the Room for few Minutes, its VERY unlikely it get stolen during this time, but I am curious if there steps to make it hard for people to theft it?

I saw some Kensington Locks you put above the MacBook, but I feel they are not really save?

Is there any other way to protect it from theft?

2020 Macbook Air Bricked?

I’ve got a 2020 MacBook Air with the intel processor. I attempted to install arch linux on it and i guess i messed something up as it no longer boots to MacOS. I have attempted everything everyone says to do included trying to reinstall MacOS through a bootable usb. It just keeps trying to boot and brings me to the apple logo and then shuts off. I’m stumped. I have attempted just about everything i could try. anyone got any tips or tricks or advice?

I have three options in the options menu which is Untitled (I assume is my original MacOS) and then EFI boot (which is ArchLinux) and the installer for Catalina. The Macbook acts the same way between Untitled and Catalina installer.

If anyone would like a video of it boot looping, i can link in comments!!
