Have you ever felt the frustration of juggling countless browser tabs, just to keep your most important links accessible? That was me—constantly searching for the tabs I needed, only to realize they’d been closed, lost in a sea of other tabs, or forgotten entirely.
The pain of this inefficiency was real. As someone who values productivity, I needed a better way. I wanted my key links to always be there when I needed them—not scattered across multiple browsers or buried in bookmarks I never check.
That’s when I decided to solve the problem myself. After weeks of brainstorming, coding, and refining, BarMarks was born: a macOS menu bar app designed to give you quick, easy access to your most important links without the hassle of keeping browser tabs open.
✨ What makes BarMarks different?
To celebrate the launch of BarMarks, I’m offering it completely free to early adopters. If you’re interested, just comment below or DM me, and I’ll send you a promo code to try it out. I’d love to hear your thoughts and see how it helps you!
Check out BarMarks here: https://apps.apple.com/az/app/barmarks/id6739710035?mt=12
Let’s make productivity simple and efficient. No more tab chaos! 🚀
I needed a decent Finder supplement, something that would allow me to compare/sync folders. I ended up with Forklift 4, it seemed a good decent option. I am still on a trial (but that shouldn't matter). I haven't given the app full access. I don't need any app to go deeper than what I want, DaisyDisk doesn't have those privileges. I have granted that to Terminal only.
I understand there would be some slowness browsing my NAS, etc. But sometimes this app seems to slow down for no reason. Is that just me or is just not as snappy? Is there a better alternative?
I am on an M2 Pro, there shouldn't be any problems running this kind of apps.
I dont like apple calendar and my most of the work is done through Google calendar. Is there any app for google calendar for mac? Which keep sync my google calendar to mac and also send the alerts and notifications of the upcoming meeting?
Here you can read more. You are now forced to pay 40€ each year if you use it for work. Cool, i'm out. That's not worth it for just writing in markdown (which is the only advantage over mail for me).
I bought the app earlier this year and I live it!
I feel like susequent audio transcriptions become weaker with each audio transcriptions.
I wanted add a whisper large model api for better transcriptions but I have to no idea how that works.
Would it charge me more if I added to macwhisper? Would it even gice out more accurate transcriptions? Has anyone attched their own api with macwhisper with good results? Thanks.
What stack do you prefer when developing for Mac?
I’ve been using VLC on my Mac, but it’s starting to show its age. It’s decent for most things, but I’ve run into some annoyances. Playback can stutter with 4K videos or larger files, the UI feels outdated and not very user-friendly and advanced features like adjusting subtitles or audio tracks can be unintuitive. I need something more than a basic player, I'm sure there are some good alternatives available. I’m on macOS Sonoma, open to both free and paid options. Thanks!
hey guys i need alternative app for cleanmymac
Every time I download a video from YouTube using clipgrab, it will download a different language besides English. It’s really annoying. Is there any way to fix this? Yes I did go through settings and specify English.
The apps on this list are either free or buy once and use on multiple platforms with just a couple of exceptions. The links are to reviews of the apps that contain pricing information and download links either to the developer's website of the App Store. (or both)
Are there any newer equalisers on the market for Mac?
I've used sound source for a while. It's an overpriced buggy piece of crap. eqMac is also buggy as hell, barely ever worked properly.
There is another free app (don't remember the name) that is supposed to work, but it will show the mic icon as "activated" permanently, which is a bummer.
Is there anything usable out there?
So for "note-taking" I use different apps for different purposes.
I use Notion for task & project management and also to organize personal things (travel lists, bucket lists, quick notes, recipes, whatever), and I also have a personal knowledge base there of things and skills (programming etc) that I learned.
Then I also have OneNote but purely for my university stuff. I like that OneNote is like a giant whiteboard and I can just import a pdf and then write on it or just next to it and do whatever I want. But, I must say that they never update OneNote and at times it's super buggy and gets really annoying.
I am searching for an alternative to OneNote, where I could have maybe a combined Knowledge Base for my university stuff, but also my personal stuff that I currently keep in Notion. I tried Obsidian, which might work for my personal knowledge but considering OneNote, it's not capable replacing it for my university purposes, because I cannot even mark things in PDF there, let alone writing something on it and taking notes next to it (and there is like a plugin to mark things in PDFs etc, but this is all extremely limited and annoying.
Are there any possible replacements or suggestions, or is OneNote the only option? I want it to be a mix of OneNote and Obsidian, sth like that...
I’m looking for an app that can display the bit rate of audio currently being played directly on the menu bar of macOS. I believe I downloaded it from a github page.
So it was my first time using and I wasn't alert enough on the horror stories I vaguely head. But not only is the app useless in itself since it doesn't do much when plugging it (like limit the charging and allow discharge even when plug) but the very first calibration I tried, it screwed my battery which is now stuck at 100% even though it's supposed to discharge.
Anyways to fix that? I plan on disinstalling and I have a good friend that can have it banned on the AppStore since he had the same problem and works for the Macstore.
You can now -
As you know, Apps.Deals wasn't only made for Black Friday offers but to list all kinds of offers throughout the year so, app developers, if you're planning to have any Christmas/New Year offers for your apps, now is the time to list them.
Best,
Ram
Bonus tip for App Developers: If you sign up with the same email with which you submitted the app before, you will be able to view/manage the submission from your Dashboard.
Hello! Can anyone recommend a great notes app for educational or academic purposes? I'm looking for something that works well for organizing and managing a lot of information in addition to holding some of my random spur of the moment ideas that I might want to do later.
Thank you in advance for your help and have a great day!
Hi, I recently started using a large TV as an external monitor. It is not perfect as it does not have DDC so I cannot control volume and brightness, but I have solved that using the Lunar App for brightness and the eqMac app for volume. My problem now is audio normalization.
Some videos and some apps are considerably louder/quieter than others so I often have to reach for the tv remote to change the volume. It doesnt seem like eqMac can help with this. I haven't purchased the pro version, but it seems that not even the pro version can do it.
Any suggestions for a free/low cost or not low cost but lifetime licensed app that will help with this?
thanks!
PS.- Audio hijack seems to do it, but it is expensive and not lifetime license.
Became a customer based on some recommendations in reddit. Upon first use, I'm experiencing issues:
- Beachballing for all jobs larger than around 50 GB (i.e. copy from one external disk to another)
- Updates throw an error
- Status bar shows app processing ~3X the size of the files being copied (i.e. 300 GB of 100 GB copying). Don't understand how that would be possible.
Hardware: 2021 Macbook Pro M1 MAX 32 GB 1 TB connected to power with no other significant apps running. Transfer from TB external ssd to external HDD. (note: all of the problems above happen BEFORE any data is transferred to the target)
Anyone else?

Hello r/macapps community! 👋
I needed a simple app to manually track and manage my spending, including credit card payments, bank transfers, and cash expenses. Manually recording expenses helps me stay aware of my spending habits and manage them effectively. This led me to launch the Money Keeper app in July, and I first introduced it here on r/macapps in September 🙏
Thanks to the incredible feedback from many of you, I’ve been working on updates based on your suggestions. Recently, I added a much-requested feature: the ability to set the calendar start day based on your payday 📆. Your continued support and feedback mean the world to me! 👍
---
- An app that lets you view your income and expenses at a glance on a monthly basis.
- Manage regular expenses and recurring (fixed) expenses separately.
- Set the calendar by payday.
- Supports Mac, iPad and iPhone apps with fast synchronization ⚡️
- Monthly Summary: Visualizes your expenses.
- Ability to create and customize expense and income categories.
- Simplicity that allows you to focus solely on managing expenses.
- Free with limited features. Supports a reasonably priced one-time membership for full features.
- No ads, no data collection.
---
The app is still in its early stages, and there’s plenty of room for improvement. However, I’m committed to developing it with the help of users like you, to make it a useful tool for those looking to manage their expenses manually. 👍
I’m carefully recording all the feedback I receive and using it to gradually add new features. If you give it a try and have any suggestions, feel free to leave a comment 💬.
A huge thank-you to everyone who’s started using Money Keeper to manage your spending. I hope you stay healthy 💪 and have a wonderful holiday season 🎄✨.

Hey there! Before switching to Mac I used to use rainmeter on windows quite a bit, so when I found out nothing like that existed on Mac I was quite sad.
Other Apps like Hologram do get the job done but it didn't have any audio visualizers which I really like - So I made one! (although it's a bit scrappy.)
Putting this here - Just incase anyone was searching for something similar. :)
I have a large directory of non-English files and folders. 95% of them are in simplified Chinese. I want to translate all of the files and folder names to English. Is there a renamer utility for macos that includes high quality translation capability, either as part of the package or via API call to Google/AWS etc?
Alternatively, a renamer utility that can show files/directory names in tabular view, enabling me to copy the table of names, enter into google translate, and then paste the results back into the renamer utility would suffice.
I did try using ChatGPT to write a shell script to recursively work through a starting directory and translating each file/folder. Almost managed it, but am succeeding in being confused by the API integration/billing/auth settings for Google Translate API.
Thanks!
Hi everyone!
I wanted to ask for some feedback on the first macOS app I’ve built and launched: TimeSlower. Essentially, it’s an opinionated Pomodoro Timer combined with a To-Do list that helps you estimate tasks and see what you can (and cannot) realistically accomplish in a day.
Before building my own solution, I used Flow for a Pomodoro timer and Things for my to-do list. Both are fantastic apps and a tough act to follow. However, I found that neither fully supported the effective use of the Pomodoro technique. Here’s what I struggled with:
All these pain points inspired me to build TimeSlower (check out the "How it Works" section on the website).
Analytics is still a work in progress, but I can already analyze estimated task sizes vs. actual sessions spent. This allows me to provide recommendations, such as splitting larger tasks into smaller ones (or vice versa), based on completion success rates. I’m planning to add more tips and insights in future releases.
With that said, I’d love your feedback! I understand that opinionated workflows are a niche, but I’m eager to know if TimeSlower solves workflow problems for others. I’d also appreciate ideas on where to take the app next. Link to the app store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/timeslower/id980075267
Thank you all in advance!
I am curious to know if anyone here designs their own app icons, and if so, which tools do you prefer? Typically, I use Canva Pro and icons8.com, but when I can't find what I need, I turn to Pinterest and tweak the background color in Procreate. Occasionally I wish to incorporate a textured background. Additionally, I encounter challenges with sizing, as the app logos often become pixelated when adjusted to my preferred dimensions.
Does anyone else create their own icons or have any tips to share? I appreciate your help!
Does anyone know if PocketBits, LLC is still relevant and up to date? I used to use their Adware software on an older Mac and was thinking of installing it on a new one running MacOS 15, but I noted their software, according to the Apple App Store hasn't been updated in several years.
Looking for an audio app that does this
Base on the following context
Firefox (or Safari) have 2 Tabs:
- Tab A playing Youtube (music)
- Tab B playing Youtube (Movie/Interview/whatever .......)
I am looking for a way to have certain apps appear in certain orders, maybe with dividers etc.
I don't want to have them permanently on the dock, but when they appear, I want them it a specific location.
Are there any good dock customisation apps that could do something like this?
