iPhone 16 Pro Battery + overheating after 3 days

Hey guys, I am fuming. I got my phone on Sunday and loaded on the apps all on Sunday. I did not add anything else afterwards and this is a brand new icloud account too so no backup. It has been hot as hell and the battery drops so fast when idle. That is fairly normal for the battery I guess, but the heat?? I don't think it's normal. Is there anyone here who was able to get it fixed or exchanged? I am furious as a long-time apple user. The support team only believed me when I showed them live how fast the battery drops 1% for every 5 min we were on the phone.

Any help guys? I am up to date too!

Are there risks sending a used iPhone in for Express Replacement Service (ESR)?

I previously purchased my iPhone used. It came with AppleCare+ for a few months. Recently, it’s been having some performance issues. I phoned into Apple and they approved me for an Express Replacement because I live far from an Apple Store.

My concern is that if the previous owner had done some kind of repair prior to me buying the phone could I be on the hook for a lot of money?

How does Apple handle ESR if there’s been repairs? I’d assume that if there were any repairs that needed to be done the previous owner would have gone through Apple since they had AppleCare+ coverage, but you never know.

Why is there no devices tab in my app? The tab is in the iPad app, but not the iPhone app.

Iphone 13 pro max restarting after pink screen after screen replacement.

My iphone 13 pro max dropped from height and back and front glass broke. I replaced the front display unit to test and it worked but its restarting again and again after every 2 mins. I tried to read the error log but no idea. According to my research it is something related to proximity sensor/cable.

Redeeming giftcard

I have a $100 gift card, but I accidentally scratched off three characters from the code, so I can't use it normally. I want to buy some items from apple.com for pickup, but I’m wondering if I can still use the card.

If I scan the gift card's barcode, can I add the money to my Apple Account Balance on my iPhone? And if that works, can I use my Apple Account Balance to pay for the items on apple.com and pick them up in-store?

Would this work? I'm scared to add it to my account balance and then find out you can only use it for itunes/app store 😭

edit: Nvm, it doesn't let me scan the barcode, only the numbers so that doesn't work. Does anyone have any idea what to do? I contacted apple support but they want the receipt. However this gift card was a gift from a few months ago so I don't have the receipt

Recommendations for an OSX-friendly NVR?

I've had an Amcrest NVR (i.e., it uses cameras wired to a dedicated DVR for both power and connectivity). I prefer having local recording over cloud based.

Problem is, Amcrest hasn't updated their software in 4 years, and even what they have is just a beta and they have stated no updates for OS X are planned (they suggested I buy a Windows PC).

Has anyone had a good experience for a DVR-based, 8 camera security system that's Mac friendly?

Apple AirPods Pro, ANC Fault Customer Service Runaround

I wanted to share my frustrating experience with Apple regarding a pair of AirPods Pro I purchased in 2021 (manufactured in 2020) that developed a recognised fault with the Active Noise Cancellation (ANC). The issue causes intermittent hissing noises in both earbuds, and while it’s part of a known defect covered by a Service Program, Apple has today refused to resolve it for me. Here’s what happened:

  1. I first contacted Apple Support and was told by a representative to speak to a senior advisor over the phone the following day.
  2. The senior advisor informed me that there was an issue with my warranty, which incorrectly showed a start date of 2020 instead of my purchase date in 2021. I provided proof of purchase from the vendor I purchased them from (my invoice) and whilst I was signed into my Apple iCloud account, I used Apple’s online warranty tool to update the date, as it was requesting it.
  3. After doing this, I chatted with another Apple advisor who confirmed that my AirPods were eligible for the Service Program addressing ANC issues and told me to visit an Apple Store for inspection and servicing.
  4. I visited the Apple Store and spoke with a Genius. To my shock, I was told that my AirPods could not be serviced because they fell outside the three-year window for the Service Program, calculated from the date of purchase. They offered the resolution of purchasing another set of AirPods, which I did not accept. This critical limitation regarding the servicing plan was not disclosed by any of the previous advisors.

This experience has been deeply frustrating for a few key reasons:

  • The ANC fault is a recognised manufacturing defect, and I believe it’s unreasonable for Apple to set arbitrary time limits on resolving such issues, especially without notifying affected users proactively.
  • Apple representatives gave me inconsistent and misleading information throughout the process, resulting in unnecessary confusion and wasted time.
  • Apple has access to product details via my iCloud account, and yet they failed to proactively identify or notify me about the recognised issue within the three year time frame.

Given that I followed all instructions and provided all necessary documentation, I find Apple’s refusal to service my AirPods unacceptable. I believe Apple should:

  • Accept my AirPods Pro into the Service Program and repair/replace them.
  • Reassess their handling of such cases to prevent similar issues for other customers.

I've a return call with another senior advisor (this will be the sixth advisor I have spoken to) tomorrow afternoon, as I have obviously re-opened my case with Apple after getting home this evening.

I’m posting this here because I’ve reaching the end of my patience and want to raise awareness about how Apple is handling known manufacturing defects.

Has anyone else experienced this kind of run-around? How did you resolve it?

Can my airpod pro 1's be tracked after reset?

So i bought airpods pro 1 from fb marketplace. After i resetted them, i went to find my app and it says that they cant be connected to find my. Does someone have a way to tackle around this?

doesn’t let me download apps from the country i live in

i bought my phone in the us, but i live in the uk and for some reason it doesn’t let me download any uk specific apps. ive changed my region to uk in settings so i don’t really know what else to do

How to save and use photo from my old Macbook user account?

I took a picture with my first Macbook around 2010 and every subsequent Macbook has successful retained it as my user profile image (in Settings, Users & Groups).

I just got a new MBA and my user image is now a cupcake. In Contacts I still see my old contact card with the image. But when I go into Users & Groups it has a blank new contact with my name, no info, and no image.

I can extract the original contact with the picture to a .vcf, but I've never kept my pictures in Photos and it's not an option to select if I want to change the image for my User.

I tried googling how to export a picture from a VCF file but it looked complicated or like people were just screenshotting. Any suggestions for a straightforward way to save the picture separately and/or be able to use it as my User image on the new laptop?

Changing Home Folder Name on MacOS Monterey (12.7.6) – Messed up the first time, want to reverse it and do it correctly

I have a MacBook Pro (Early 2015) that runs MacOS Monterey (12.7.6). I named my Home folder after myself when I first got my laptop, but my name has since changed, and I wanted to rename it.

I was able to change the User name without any issue, several years ago, but I was nervous about messing with the Home folder since I've heard that can cause issues if done improperly (foreshadowing). I backed up my laptop to an external hard drive using Time Machine, and then followed a guide online that I only realized afterwards was meant for more a recent MacOS version than mine: I set up a secondary admin account (previously I only had one User), logged in to that account, went to the toolbar, clicked on Go > Go To Folder > Users, clicked on my Home folder for my main account (let's say, JaneDoe), hit enter, and changed the name to my new name (JaneSmith).

But when I logged out of my secondary User and logged in to my primary User, a menu popped up as if I were setting up a totally new User, and after skipping through that menu, my desktop background was the default one, all my settings (dark mode, highlight color, the applications on my Dock, etc) were reset to defaults, and all my folders (Documents, Downloads, etc) were empty.

Investigating further, I logged back into my secondary admin account, and I saw that I had created a new, empty Home folder (JaneSmith) which was assigned to my primary User, but the old Home folder (JaneDoe) still exists, just seemingly not tied to any User. (Side note: my primary User is apparently no longer able to view the Users folder – typing "Users" after selecting Go > Go To Folder doesn't bring anything up.)

I then tried to just restore my laptop to the state it was in before I messed with the Home folders. I first opened Time Machine and tried to restore to the last backup, but the button was greyed out. Then I opened Migration Assistant and tried to do it that way, but it said there wasn't enough space on my laptop to do so (I have 13.03 GB available). I'm guessing it was trying to download my entire 108 GB backup rather than replace the files.

My two questions are this then: (1) how do I properly restore my laptop to my previous backup; and (2) how do I change the name of my Home folder without messing up my computer again?

Any advice would be very greatly appreciated.

Apple or UPS lost product sent in for repair

I bought a pair of Beats Studio Buds in September and they worked once but then one kept vibrating and had a “feedback” sound like it was too close to a microphone. I contacted Apple and they said I needed to send it in or go to an Apple Store (closest store 100 miles away). I sent them in on November 25, and they emailed to say they received them and were working on a diagnosis but the next day I received back just the charging case. I’ve contacted Apple several times and basically they said there is nothing they can do, the product was not in the sealed box they received and there was no damage to the box. They said I can file a claim with UPS but if the box was sealed then UPS will just say it wasn’t tampered with.

So I’m basically wondering what my options are here? Thanks!

Apple Podcasts app volume way lower than every other app

iPhone SE 3rd gen, only tested with iOS 18.1 and 18.2

AirPods Pro

I recently switched back to Apple Podcasts from using the Pocketcasts app and I've noticed it's way quieter. I have to turn the volume up on my AirPods to the max, and even had to go into the settings and change the safety limit so I could turn it up a bit more.

Volume was fine and consistent with the pocket casts app, and all other apps seem to be at the same volume level. When I go to Spotify or any other I have to turn the volume way back down.

iPad selects a portion of text while typing

Hey everyone, as per title.

Whenever I use my iPad in landscape to type like on a physical keyboard (8 fingers + thumb for spacebar), my iPad select a potion of text, making the next letter override it, resulting in me keep needing to undo the change.

This is extremely frustrating.

I guess my touching two keys at the same time, while typing fast, triggers that.

How to avoid?

Strange calendar events

A strange event has appeared in my calendar that last for the next 3 months and notified me every single day. No matter what I do I cannot get rid of it.

I have tried declining the event, it goes and comes back within 1 minute

I have tried clicking on the calendar app the clicking calendars at the bottom and there are no strange calendars in there

I have tried going into settings and then into calendars and accounts to look for subscribed calendars in there but there is nothing in there neither

Anyone have any idea on what I could do to get rid of it, it’s driving me insane!!

iMessage on Macbook Air is sending as green texts (SMS or RCS) to only some people and starting new group chats

I have talked to apple support, logged out of imessage and facetime, logged back in. they don't know what is going on. I tried text forwarding.

nothing is working. my iphone imessage works fine. imessage on my Macbook Pro is working fine as well.

For the same contact, I can text on iphone and it will appear blue, but if I text from macbook it will be green.

IMEI purchased from Apple directly marked as stolen

I purchased phone directly from Apple store (have proof of purchase and everything). It was picked up in person, and the serial number was confirmed by Apple Store in person, so there was no mixup there. It was unused, unopened, and brand new, unlocked, paid in full. Was working fine on ATT (yes you read that correctly, ATT), and all of a sudden stopped working. ATT said the IMEI was marked as blocked. Initially wouldn't say who blocked it, but did eventually confirmed that Verizon blocked it. Apple support also confirmed this. Apple recommended I report to CheckMEND, and they confirmed the Verizon blocked it. I call Verizon, and they say they won't do anything, and refuse to say who blocked it. I escalated to supervisor, and they also refused to help me, because I am not a customer.

Please someone help me. I am at my wit's end, and Apple, Verizon, and ATT refuse to help me. I don't know what else to do. It was such an expensive phone that is now rendered useless.

Screen recording didn’t save

I have an iPad Pro 4th generation, and I think it’s the 11 inches size, with the updated version being iPadOS 18. 1. 1. I was using the screen recording feature that the iPad includes, to record my art progress on MediBang Paint (I don’t use the Timelapse feature on MediBang because it works horribly).

I unfortunately forgot to charge it, and the iPad died during the screen recording.

I charged it and assumed the video would be saved and just had simply stopped at where it died, but come to find out, the video is nowhere to be found in photos.

I’m pretty upset because I screen recorded about 20 minutes of my art progress, and now it’s gone. Is it possible to recover the missing screen recorded footage even if it didn’t “save”?

If there is something I was supposed to add to this post but didn’t, please let me know, it’s my first time on this subreddit.

Creating apple ids without loads of phone numbers

So I work for a company and we don't have a bunch of work numbers that can be used to set up apple ids. It also appears they made it so you can't use a phone number that is already attached to another apple id. So we can't ask the employee to use personal number to authentication. What are my options for this?

Apple account disabled - photos on icloud

My Apple ID has been permanently disabled. I’ve contacted Apple support numerous times to be told there’s nothing they can do. The problem is I have 25000 photos saved on icloud, including my wedding photos and all photos of my toddler. I can still see the undownloaded poorer quality version of these photos on my phone. Is there any way to transfer these to another device without signing into my account?

Also, if anyone has any tips for getting the account restored that would be great. I’ve seen people get access through the BBB but I’m based in Ireland.
