I just got a new MacBook M2 and I'm new to Macs. I've been watching some videos about MacBooks. One video said to never turn off your Mac unless you need to or want to clear the memory.
I asked my friend who uses a Mac, and he said it doesn't matter. He turns his off every night. He also said if you don't turn it off, it can hurt the hard drive and make it not last as long.
I'm confused now. What's true? When should I turn off my Mac? Can someone help me understand?
Hello,
I have a Macbook Air 2013, and I need to find a way to connect it to an USB 3.2 Type-B port. My dual monitor splitter requires an input connection of an USB 3.2 Type-B. My regular windows laptop uses a normal usb output to USB 3.2 Type-B connector that I found easily. I have been searching for a few days now for a way to connect the macbook. The monitor connector I have is the "Dual-Monitor USB 3.0 Docking Station with DVI and Vertical Stand by StarTech "dot" com"
Thank you for your help.
I'm planning to buy a MacBook Air and have a few questions:
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
I recently acquired a Mid 2012 MacBook Pro that I want to use as it serves all I need realistically. However, I’ve got the problem of only ever using windows computers prior to this and the laptop not having a hard drive. I need help on how to make a bootable installer for free for any Mac OS.
Hey, longtime pc user. Might be switching to mac for work stuff. Browsing models and options, I noticed the ram on newer macbooks has weird sizings. As in, I grew up with the typical 4, 8, 16, 32, 64 GB etc formats.
This is likely gonna come across quite dumb but, why do macs have 18gb of ram? What's the point of having a 16 and 18gb versions?
Hi I bought an MBA m3 in the USA and of course purchased AppleCare with it, the yearly subscription. What if I move to Europe after 6 months and don’t have residency in the USA. Will I still be able to use and renew my Apple care? Switzerland only has the one time Apple care and not the subscription one? I don’t want to just have one year or coverage on my Mac.
I have Macbook Air M1 2020 and I got water on it and immediately went to repair store and they dried and cleaned inside of it. What about water on the screen, they said it will eventually dry out. It's been 2 weeks and most of the water spots did dry out. You can still see some of them but that's not what's concerning me. The thing is what I do with these darks spots or lights (whatever) at the bottom of the screen? Will they also be gone after a time or should I replace my screen?
Hey guys! I'm using a Samsung S21 FE with my M2 MacBook 15". Works fine, but curious if switching to iPhone would offer a significantly better experience.
Anyone else in the same boat? Is the integration that much smoother?
I need advice. Is it a bad time to buy a MacBook Pro right now? I’m planning to get a programming job and need a new Mac. I think higher memory would be better? We have a friend who works at Apple and can get us a 15% discount. We're thinking of buying in the next few weeks (driving to buy in a tax free states), but since the M4 is around the corner, does it seem foolish to spend $3k on a Mac that will be last generation in 2-3 months?
Recently started a quite intensive course specific to my industry and it's mostly online. I've just been using an old HP that I had laying around and I think it's time for an upgrade.
So far it seems like the best option is a certified refurbished M2 MacBook air with 16gb ram/1tb SSD for $2419 AUD. I figure 16gb ram because I will occasionally need to run a windows VM for a few programs specific to my industry and 1TB storage because it's 2024 and every laptop should have at least 1tb on SSD.
I don't use any other apple products but I'm not interested in syncing notifications or anything like that, it shouldn't be a big deal running a Mac on its own right?
My cat has bitten the top left corner of my MacBook screen and now it is glitching. Is this a whole new screen? Any tips or hints to try?
When I boot my 2015 MacBook Air or sometimes I don’t shut it down but it still goes to this in a log in it works like it goes in normal because I did not shut down but boot or not it shows this and if I lock it or put it to sleep it shows the normal Sonoma Lock Screen how can I fix this thanks
Hello. So I just found out that there’s no Netflix app in Mac App Store. Lol. Do you guys know a safe way to watch Netflix content offline? Thanks.
My father is planning to buy a macbook the option are the m1 MBA or the m2 MBA he can afford the m3 too but it's a bit of an overkill for him. The m1 MBA is 65000 INR (about 780 USD) and the m2 MBA is 78000 INR (about 920 USD) is m2 worth that extra in a long run as I don't think he will be buying another one for atleast 4 years He doesn't do anything too heavy like editing or stuff like that mostly like browsing, youtube, Gmail and trading
Hi. I bought MacBook today and when I just purchased it that time I was happy, but after few hours I felt anxiety, I think like I waste my money and I did something wrong. So I asked to my father he said I waste money because last month I lost my iPhone that I bought only bought 5months ago, so I bought new iPhone. So I get anxiety a lot. Do you think is MacBook isn't worth to me? or is MacBook will useful to me in future?
My WD External Drive doesn't seem to be compatible with macOS and is read-only. I cannot save anything to it.
My buddy found a MacBook laptop in a clean out storage unit. It is locked. Is there anyway around this for an idiot like me that doesn’t know much about computers haha
I currently own a mid 2012 mbp but the battery life isnt great with a fairly new battery in it. I was wondering if there might be a way to use a portable charger to power.
I am going to pharmacy school this fall and I currently have a 2019 MBP 16" i9 but would like something with better battery. I don't need any special software for school but I run a TON of tabs and dabble a little in Logic Pro.
I visited Best Buy today and I'm not sure if I just didn't spend enough time with the MBA15 and the MBP16, but the MBP's miniLED didn't really seem all that different to me? I played some trailers in Apple TV and while it did seem better on the Pro, I really wasn't awestruck (maybe because they were far apart so I couldn't compare side-by-side).
That being said, I wanted to match my current MBP's spec of 1TB SSD and originally I was going to trade with Apple ($455 for my MBP) to get a MBA15 for a final price of $1,174 and use the money I would have spent on the MBP16 to upgrade my iPad which I use a lot just for media consumption. But Best Buy is offering $500 off the 16" MBP M3 (18/512) and offered me $750 for my trade in for a total of $1,409.
Now that the MBP16 is a lot closer to what I had budgeted for the MBA15, it's much easier for me to justify getting the MBP16 but I would just have to compromise with 512gb instead of the 1TB (over 5 years of owning my 2019 MBP16 I've used 250gb). I was dead set on getting the MBA for portability but after comparing for weeks I am completely lost. The M3 MBP16 is a lot thicker and heavier than I am used to with my 2019 MBP but it would be nice to have the nicer display and better battery of the MBP but I do like the MBA's portability and lightness and spending 10 mins with both, the display didn't really seem that much better to me. I've been told a lot that the MBP is just way more computer than I need and at the end of the day this computer is only for school. Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated as I have overwhelmed myself with all my research!
I've looked online but I can't seem to find any matches in the Apple website anywhere. Some help would be appreciated friends.
I’m going to purchase a 14-inch Air with the M3 chip, 8-core CPU, 10-core GPU, 8GB memory, 256 SSD storage.
I qualify for a discount that makes a new model only $70 more than a refurbished Air with the same specs.
What would you recommend I purchase, new or refurbished? I’ve read people saying the refurbished have more checks done before they’re sold, but for such a small price difference, I’m wondering which way I should go.
Hey,
I don't know how, but two really important things just disappeared from my laptop:
Over 10,000 pictures, including my grandma's last days and moments' photographs.
A book that I was working on for years (and was writing it in the pages app)
Is there any possible way to find where did all my stuff go? It's not in the trash bin. I've tried some software but nothing has helped.
Today I visited a store that sells Apple products and asked a guy working there about this issue. And he basically said that it's not possible to retrieve any data at this point.
Please help. I feel hopeless beyond measure.
Hi all,
My work laptop is an M1 Max 16" MacBook Pro maxed out with 64gb RAM, but it seems like I generally hover around 32gb used with the rest as Cache. My understanding is that MacOS will pretty much use whatever you give it, so I'm trying to measure if I actually use 32gb (at which point I'll grab a 24gb Air) or if it's more just wasted overhead.
Are there any apps I can used to monitor actual usage over time?
As the title says, I do have a 2019 Macbook Pro 4 thunderbolt 3 ports. and I have the infamous butterfly keyboard, what's the best way to clean the sticky key?
I did see apple replacing/fixing them for free over here but it says you should get it fixed within 4 years of buying it.. it's been almost 5 years for me.. will apple let it slide or nope?
Im in desperate need of help. My Macbook's built in speakers randomly stopped working one morning and no matter what I tried nothing works. when I use the volume commands (F10,F11, and F12) it shows me a pop up of the speaker sound level but instead of a volume bar its a stop sign. My Macbook is a 12-inch 2016 design and I have updated it to the most recent version. When I open System Preferences>Sound>Output, the option to raise/lower the output volume isn't accessible and the internal built in speakers are not there. Audio works fine with AirPods or Headset. What should I do?
I ran into a problem that many people complained about, but I didn't see anyone solve it.
The problem was that for many MacBook users, after waking from sleep, the screen stopped displaying a normal image. In a dark room, it was possible to see a blurry black and white image. However, the MacBook itself was functioning normally: you could connect an external display, keyboard, and mouse and continue working. The official response from Apple's service was disheartening: screen replacement, and in case the warranty had expired, this cost almost half the price of a MacBook.
Guys, I finally fixed it! In my case, it was a software issue! The symptoms were exactly the same, MacBook Pro 14 M1 Pro 16 1Tb.
To fix it, you need a second Mac OS device (in my case, it was a MacBook Air M1) and Apple Configurator app.
There are plenty of guides online on how to start MacBooks in DFU mode.
Before proceeding with any procedures, make a backup of your data! (I just uploaded the particularly important folders to Google Drive and didn't bother with Time Machine)
Here’s what worked for me:
Steps I tried before but did not help (note that with our issue, an external monitor still works fine):
None of this helped. At first, I thought that I had a Mac mini instead of a MacBook Pro, as the external display was working, but I am quite a persistent type. So, I hope you don't give up either and, in case the warranty has expired, don't immediately take the MacBook for a screen replacement, which will cost you at least 700 dollars. Good luck, guys!
