I'm currently looking to switch out my Macbook Pro 15" Mid-2014 for an M1 Macbook Air. I had planned to wait until early June, when the M3 Macbook Air is rumored to release. That way I could time the M1 for depreciation.
Plot twist: My Mid-2014's battery is down to 56% capacity and "likely needs servicing". Not only that, this battery is itself a knockoff replacement which I got back in January and installed myself, meaning it likely wouldn't last all the way until June.
So my options are A. Buy the M1 now B. Spend $40 on another knockoff battery and hope the M1 depreciates by more than $40 after the M3 releases. Thoughts?
Hi guys! Full disclosure I know nothing about technology, but I’m in the market for a new laptop. I have an iPad Pro rn, but am trying to decide whether to buy a MacBook Air or pro. I could get the MacBook Pro 256g 16GB ram M2 8 core CPU 10 core gpu for $1089 total, the MacBook Air 256g 8GB ram M1 for $806, or the MacBook Air 256g 8GB ram M2 with 8 CPU and GPU for $989. Really in debate - I don’t run any demanding software I just care about longevity. I only need this for medical school, and also use my iPad a lot. Any input welcome!
Hi everyone, I have an issue with my MBA M1 and Apple service. Before taking any action, I wanted to ask for your advice.
I bought a MBA M1 last summer. After a month, a strange issue started to occur. The trackpad and keyboard do not work every time it wakes up from sleep mode. As a result, I always have to turn off the computer completely by holding the power button and then turn it back on.
I contacted a service in Istanbul, but they were unable to solve the issue. I then took the MacBook to the Apple Store, where they replaced the keyboard and trackpad. However, the issue persisted immediately after the service. Due to my busy schedule, I continued using it with this problem for a year since October this year.
I took it to the Apple Store again on October 14th, and they ordered a Logic Board for repair. Unfortunately, no one has contacted me since. When I reached out to Apple support, they expressed shock and apologized for the entire process. They offered to replace the MBA with a new one and also a pair of AirPods Pro as part of a customer satisfaction program.
Upon checking Apple's website, I noticed that the MBA M1 + AirPods Pro is more expensive than an MBA M2. Therefore, I asked if it was possible to upgrade to an MBA M2 instead of receiving an additional pair of AirPods Pro. They mentioned that, while in some regions their policy allows for this type of upgrade, it is not applicable in Turkey.
Has anyone else experienced this kind of "upgrade" process? The Apple support did not provide a clear explanation of the compensation options for this case.
My wife has a 2015 macbook pro. It's starting to get very slow. She originally got it because she did graphic design professionally, but she only does it on the side now and very seldom.
We're looking at a new MacBook, and if she was still designing often, the new MacBook Pro would be a new brainer.
My question is this: For budget purposes, with the new Macbook Airs having M1/2 chips, would they still be an upgrade and appropriate for adobe products? In other words, it's still going to be a massive upgrade from the 2015 MacBook Pro, despite it being an "Air".
thank you in advance!
Macbook air M1. Sent an offer for 280 and accepted. Did I get a good deal? I plan on replacing the screen myself.
I have an issue with the "Your system has run out of application memory". I did close some apps and but it appears again after some time. On the image there is in total a bit less than 1.8 GB memory used. Even considering that I have 8 GB Mac, why does it runs out of memory with small amount of light tasks ? Do I need to restart the Mac and this is just a minor software issue, or what should I do ? Thanks in advance for all advices.
I'm going to assume this can't be done. But I just got myself a M3 (not max) Macbook Pro. I have three external 4K monitors that I would like to connect to it, but according to this apple page I can only connect two external monitors, and I would need the m2 or m3 max chip in order to connect three external monitors.
Has anyone seen a workaround to get three external monitors connected to a non max macbook? We all know this is a manufactured limitation, and the m3 is more then capable of running three monitors, so I'm just wondering if there is a work around...
Just wondering, thanks.
got an oldish Macbook here (early 2015) and i would appreciate some advice getting it to perform its best.
anyone have experience downgrading their OS? currently running Monterey, but it feels very laggy and i suspect it's because of the old hardware trying to run the newer OS. i would like to try going back to Big Sur and was wondering if anyone knows the best way to do this, or recommends against it for any reason.
background:
some time during the pandemic the internal hard drive crashed. since my employer provides me with more up-to-date machines anyway it didn't matter much, but in 2022 i finally got the hard drive replaced by a third party tech repair store (apple wouldn't deal). during the process of reviving my machine, the tech installed the latest OS (Monterey at the time) and i noticed the experience was much laggier than before. again it hasn't been a big deal since i spend more time on my work machine, but it is noticeable and i do want to keep some personal projects separate from work.
i don't need to depend on this machine to multitask and sync with all my apple stuff/run everything in my life, or even do my job, but i do want it to handle some bulky creative software like e.g. Garageband or Premier for small side projects.
so do you feel there is an "optimal" OS for a Macbook this age? is downgrading a stupid idea? is it easy to do? is there a critical reason i should just suck it up and stick with Monterey? any advice is appreciated. thanks!
Wife has a 2017 MacBook Air which I plan to daily drive from my windows Laptop. I want to switch over to a MacBook but genuinely curious if I buy a new one MacBook, or if I buy the previous years model - possibly refurbished- how long does it usually last until Apple decides to end support for it OS wise and not hardware wise as I know these are usually bulletproof- is the typically ‘life expectancy’ (aka upgrades) around 5 years?
Hello, I’m a teenager and looking to buy a laptop for school work, editing, entertainment, and possibly gaming. Initially I wanted to get a macbook m3 but I’m not that educated on laptops. I’d like to have it be an apple product just for convenience, but if needed any other kind would be okay. I’m wanting to use AE and if possible play games like rdr2 or minecraft, can you get these games on Macbook? Does the M3 chip handle AE well? Would it be overkill to blow 3k on a computer that im not using as seriously as other people? Help!
Hey r/macbook community! I'm on the hunt for a reliable laptop primarily geared towards development tasks.
I won't be delving into intense video recording or editing; this machine is strictly for personal use and software development purposes. I initially considered options like the Dell XPS, high-end ThinkPad models, and the MacBook lineup. However, budget constraints have led me to reconsider, and I'm contemplating getting the MacBook Air M1 with 16GB of RAM.
Currently, I'm using the 8GB version of the MBA M1 for my job, and it's proven to be a powerful machine. However, I now need a separate laptop for experimentation, whether it's creating something new or learning different skills.
My tech stack will include PHP, MySQL and MongoDB along with some visual tool for both of them, Node.js, and possibly Golang, with tools like Docker and Vagrant in the mix. I plan to use this laptop for both backend and frontend development.
Do you think the MacBook Air M1 with 16GB will suffice for my needs?
Help
How do I remove these screenshots without deleting them from the max itself? I want my home screen to just be the blank picture. No files or screenshots covering it. How do I stop the screenshots appearing here ?
TL;DR - Would you recommend a Magic Trackpad for working with a Macbook sitting on a stand, with external keyboard?
A bit of background: recently (last week) switched to Mac from 20+ years of Linux user. I had an iMac (G5) back in 2003 for a couple of years, but rest of my adult life has been on Linux.
My last notebook died and looking for a new one, and absolutely not keen to spend days configuring the sound or the Fn keys or the Bluetooth, I decided to buy a Macbook (Air M2, 16GB+512). As it's my work tool - I'm web/backend developer - I just wanted something that works out of the box without headaches.
During all my adult life I've had a few laptops, and ALWAYS I used an external mouse - I'm on my third Logitech MX+ Anywhere - because I NEVER was able to use a trackpad, I just was SO more efficient with a mouse.
But...
Oh my... I've never used a Macbook trackpad until now. What the... First day I paired my Logitech mouse with the Macbook but I never actually used it! I felt SO comfortable with this trackpad, it's just responsive, fast, and the gestures are for sure a game changer. I'm in f*cking love with that piece of hardware.
So... for working and moving I will use just the built-in trackpad for sure, not need to carry a mouse with me everywhere anymore. But for working at home, I usually set my laptop on a Nextstand stand, and use it with external keyboard and mouse - I don't use external monitor.
Now, after trying the trackpad, I'm seriously thinking on just get a Magic Trackpad for working at home instead of the mouse.
Would it be a good idea?
I know I can just use the trackpad on the Macbook for gestures while using an external keyboard and mouse, but I don't feel so comfortable/efficient my doing changing positions of my hand all the time - and the elevated position on the Nextstand makes it a bit uncomfortable.
In addition, with the purchase Apple gave me a 170€ voucher to spend on the Apple Store, so a Magic Trackpad would be basically free...
Would you recommend a Magic Trackpad for working with a Macbook on a stand?
Thank you in advance!
Just wondering if 11 core cpu with 14 gpu is enough for the game?
Or to upgrade it to the 12 core with 18 gpu?
Ever since the Sonoma update a few months ago, I’ve seen some people experiencing some low audio on their built in speakers when watching vids, shows on streaming services, etc., and I’m one of them who experienced this issue. The audio aren’t as loud as it was used to be before the new update like when the bar is in half, I can barely hear it and sound soft. I’ve tried everything what the internet told me such as rebooting my Mac, reset the core audio, booting to Safe Mode, etc., but none seem to work. I really can’t tell if it’s the software issue, a hardware issue, or a bug but I really want my sound back. What yall think what’s the issue?
This has been happening for 2 days, figs. 1&2 show the variation of popups and fig. 3 is what happens if you click on one. It opens in Safari (not my default), for what that is worth. Any ideas? I am not the only user of this machine. TIA.

Hello everyone! I'm a FIRST TIME mac user haha. Anyone of you have been using a keyboard cover for ur mac m2 15" for a while now? Does it leave marks on the screen? Or was this mac already designed to have enough space to not "damage" or leave smudges on ur screen even with a keyboard cover on all the time?
Is it also adviseable to have a full body case on this mac? Does it affect ventilation or induce overheating? How about a case with vents at the bottom? Will that do?
Sorry for the number of questions. Thanks everyone! ◡̈
Hi All,
I'm planning to buy a new MacBook Pro 14'' with the M3 Pro chip. I was thinking about this base specification:
Apple MacBook Pro 14” with
M3 Pro chip with 11‑core CPU, 14‑core GPU, and 16‑core Neural Engine
18 GB RAM
512 GB SDD
First of all, should I buy it now or should I wait a year for the M4 options which would come with Wifi 7 support as the M3 ones still have only Wifi 6E support? I don't see a particular need as my old 2018 Intel Macbook Pro 13'' is working well but thought I could use an upgrade as it's been 5 years and things do feel a bit slow.
I'm sure of the chip to choose but had questions about other choices:
I currently have the 512 GB SDD on my old Intel 2018 MacBook Pro 13" and use around 350 GB on there. Do you think though that I should upgrade to the 1 TB to have more space for swaps as it seems that the new Apple Silicon Macbooks do a lot of swaps with RAM and SDD memory?
Also, I spend $9.99 per month for the 2 TB iCloud+ plan to keep my documents and other things and use around 225 GB of that plan. Does it make sense to upgrade to 1 TB Hard disk to save on monthly iCloud+ cost and downgrade iCloud+ to the 200 GB plan that costs $2.99 per month?
I use my 2018 Intel MacBook Pro 13" which has worked well for me. It has 16 GB RAM and 512 GB SDD current. I have around 13-14 GB RAM in use usually all the time when checking on Activity Monitor
I use it for basic things like browsing, watching videos and movies, making MS Office documents and video calls for my work. My work involves a lot of research so I have sometimes more than 100 tabs open on my Chrome browser so it takes a lot of RAM but I haven't faced many problems in my old Mac with 16 GB RAM. I play basic games like Township but don't do heavy gaming. I don't use any major professional apps like Adobe Creative Pro ones or anything else graphics or design related. I do primarily text-based work drafting MS Office document and read books and PDFs.
Would upgrading one of the RAM or SDD options compensate for the other?
Thanks!
How do you guys clean your MacBook keyboard and keep it safe from dust. I am using MacBook since January 2022 frequently and now my MacBook (m1 Air 2020) keys are getting hard, they are not that smooth as they were. How can I remove dust that stuck inside my MacBook?
Hello my costco has this deal going on now and as someone who has never purchased apple macbooks or any laptop (last one was gifted for undergrad) I need to know if this is a good deal.
I will be starting grad school in July 2024 so I do have some time but i'm not sure how often these costco deals happen. Up until a few weeks ago my current laptop was working ok but now it has to be plugged in at all times and has become laggy over the last few days so I think I need to upgrade. I did look into replacing the batttery but I couldn't find any legit looking ones on amazon and Lenovo doesn't make parts for my current model. I also checked best buy and they also have a deal but itd be about $100 more than the costco one.
I also have a $50 costco gift card :)
Hi my laptop shows incorrect date: 05.05.2022 4:30 pm. I can’t change it automatically i tried restarting it it won’t change. Because of that my wifi doesn’t work. What do i do?
Hi all,
I recently had bought a macbook air m2 15 and it has been great, but lately i have been temperatures of up to 105 Celsius with idle temp around 51
Is this normal?
Is GTA V going to run on macbook air 2020 Intel? Or is it going to fry? If i can play it do i do it on MacOS or through Bootcamp? Mind you it doesn’t have to run that smoothly for me to be happy :)) Thanks
Ok, so the notch debate- Apple is moving all the MacBooks to a notch design, but is it a good use of space or a distraction? I personally don’t mind it but let me know what you think 🧐
