Yesterday I bought an iMac from slavo, I tested it with a keyboard at the store and was able to get it into recovery mode. So I figured for 60 bucks it was worth a shot to see what I could do with it. After getting home and buying a windows keyboard It will work when trying to boot into recovery mode and internet recovery mode only some of the time. I was able to erase all the data on the hard drive, but beyond that I can't seem to get mac os to reinstall and now it is very intermittent to get it to actually boot into recovery mode. A local repair shop quoted me at $99 to repair it if it's only a software issue and around $300 to replace the HDD with an SSD which they think is the real culprit. I guess my question is a hard drive replacement actually necessary? I was able to get the data erased so the HDD is still working. I don't know much about Mac's. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Hi guys,
I bought my 14" M2 Macbook Pro when it came out and was absolutely astounded by its performance (a stark contrast to my 2016 12-inch Macbook with the butterfly keyboard). However, I've recently been noticing a slight lag in its performance -- the words I type don't immediately appear on the screen for example, intensive programs are slower, and some things crash more frequently.
I do push this computer quite hard. It's on 16 hours per day, and frequently doing intensive things (video editing, audio production). I've restarted it, made sure my software is current, and made sure I have nothing third party running in the background. Activity monitor looks normal and CPU load isn't much when other programs are quit.
My only explanation is that being constantly hot from an intensive workload is somehow impacting performance, but I've heard this doesn't really happen with Apple Silicon. Is it normal to see a decline over time in the things it once ran smoothly? Thanks
Hello, mac user here.
Does anyone else feel like the battery drains faster since updating to the new Macos Sequoia? Im on 15.0.1. And I have a M2 Macbook Air, I just feel my battery used to last longer before updating, anyone else have this problem?
Never seen this before. Was I hacked?
To celebrate a new position I’m considering a new laptop. I’ll be working from home and free to sit wherever I like or head to a local library or coffee shop. A role like this is new for me - I’m very excited! - and it would be nice to have a nimble and fun new device to use. My current laptop is getting along in years and is pretty bulky.
Most of the apps I’ll be using are web based. There are a couple that I’ll have to download but they won’t take a ton of space. I’ll be doing a lot of typing.
I’m curious what you’d recommend! I’m a long time Mac user but not on top of all the specs and devices. Maybe a MacBook Air? Something else?
Thanks for your advice!
Turned on my mac and its all of the display is super small for some reason, the display settings are all default so I'm not sure why its happening.
I'm trying to connect my controller via bluetooth (as I've already done) it displays well but when I press "connect" it doesn't want to activate. Can you help me?
Hello, I'm new on MacOS, I got an MacBook Pro 14" and I found out its max resolution but obviously can't actually use it because everything becomes too small, I thought to my self hey, there should be a scaling option or third party app(while keeping the max resolution) but couldn't find it, I tried an app called BetterDisplay but still couldn't make it work.. Any suggestions? Is it at all possible?
Hey
My girlfriend have bought a Macbook Pro M2 in January this year (2024). She has been on holiday the last week, and when she got home her mac kept restarting (without her doing anything unusual). At first it restarted every now and then, but now it keeps restarting all the time. We read that it could be caused by not having the newest software, so we tried installing it. Her mac crashed, while downloading the newest software and now we're stuck with the (!)-screen. I've tried restoring through Apple Configurator with her Mac in DFU mode. But since it still keeps restarting, it keeps losing connection when i try to restore it.
Is there any help to get or do we need to contact Apple?
Appreciate all replays in advance
Hi, not sure if this is not the correct place, but I have an i9 16 inch MacBook Pro from my dad (he upgraded this year) and I want to play games on it since newer Mac’s are ARM and even though I have Fedora Asahi installed on my m2 air, it doesn’t have thunderbolt support which means I can’t plug it into an external monitor while running Linux.
I used bootcamp to install Windows 10 on the i9, and so far… windows is kinda mid. It’s not bad but I had A LOT of crashes. I tried installing T2Linux version of Ubuntu but the installation scripts didn’t open. Do I have to use a Linux distribution that’s SPECIFICALLY made for T2 chips, or can I use any regular .iso just with a cost of no hardware level security?
Thanks in advance!
Hey all - Need some advice for all you MAC users. Mainly - I'm a guy who's been PC since like...forever. However I've been tiptoeing into podcasting (audacity at the moment), light video work (DaVinici Resolve), and future blender work for some D&D 3d print modeling (maybe...).
I'm thinking of maybe going MAC for my next machine. That being said, I think a combo of power and portability would be nice. I'm thinking maybe an Air or Pro but would need to get a display as well, the Studio is way too expensive so a 24/27 inch should suffice....or I could get an iMac (I just love the design) and just move it around when podcasting, which is like 1 or 2x a month. Thoughts? I know the mini might also be an option but then I'd have to tack on mouse/keyboard/speakers.
Budget would probably be around $1500/1600. Definitely out of my environment so if this sounds incomplete, apologies.
No dents on the iMac every working perfectly fine also it’s the 1TB ssd version
Was planning to get the m4 max 16inch later this year so I plan on selling my 16gb MBA and I removed the stickers. But when removing I just found out that there are stickers marks all over. Perhaps anyway to remove the imprint? Especially the apple hello mark😭
Does anyone know how can i fix this issue, i have a MacBook M3 Pro and i connected it on my Apple ID, the messages are syncing on iCloud but when i enter my credentials it just starts loading forever. I tried signing out from apple account and restarting my mac multiple times. Nothing changes, same thing happens with facetime app
when i try to register my Microsoft Entra account on my mac, the user account has some password policies on windows wich is ok, but Mac tell me to not use "bb" "123" "11" "##" and such combinations, while this mac is already Intune registered with this account anyway it does not accept Microsoft Entra User Password untill i change it as it prompts
Hey Mac admins, i have question if there is any chance to use Microsoft Entra and use password policies without confilicting on Mac password policies, i have an issue when i use Entra technology to spread some policies, i use windows User account from cloud and when i sign into mac after while Mac prompts me to change or set password even i am trying to sign it with Microsoft Entra already set password
Which should i buy for my kid in college?
13" M2 Air 8g 256 for $600 OR 13" M1 Air 16G 1TB for $650...
Both in great shape.
Like the titles says, i am curious to know how well the Air M1,2 or 3 handles running Parallels virtual machine? Is it fast and smooth? How does it affect the temperature on the Air?
I have an older Macbook Pro which gets really hot when running the VM and it slows down everything too because i don’t have enough RAM.
Very interested to hear from those using Parallels software on your Air and your experience. Please share
So I’m a full stack software engineer who mostly works on c# sql applications and I use visual studio a lot. I’ve always been a windows guy, Xbox, pc gaming etc. However, I’m tired of terrible battery life in my powerful lenovo laptop and I also love my iPhone, Apple Watch, AirPods and the new M series Mac chips seem really powerful with great battery life and screen. Also everywhere I look it up people say MacBook pro is the best laptop for software engineers. So m, is it? How is the software dev experience on it vs windows? How much will I be slowed down by learning the new OS?
Also I know the Mac would have great integration with the iPhone but I how useful is it and what’s your favorite features?
Sorry for the lots of questions
Hey everyone! I recently saw a 27” iMac Retina 5K (2020) on Facebook Marketplace and am considering swapping it for my MacBook Pro M1 (base model). I primarily use my MacBook for Final Cut Pro, AutoCAD, and some general productivity tasks. While my MacBook handles these well, I’m looking for a larger screen for better workflow, especially when editing videos or working on CAD projects.
Before making any decisions, I wanted to ask: Is this swap worth it?
I’m not sure if the iMac would offer similar or better performance for my needs, or if I should stick with the portability of the M1. I’m looking for suggestions or advice from anyone who’s used both or is familiar with this type of setup.
Thanks in advance! 😊
Hey dudes, I'm posting here because I would like some advice on how much I can sell my old Macbook Pro for. It's a 13.3 inch, M1, 8GB RAM, 512GB SSD 2020 model but the catch is...
I accidentally spilled water on it a few years back and it fucked up the screen. It made it static-y (if that's the word to describe it) with these flickering lines. However, it functions fine despite the fucked up screen.
I never fixed it because replacing the screen wasn't worth the cost so I just got a new M2 Macbook Pro. Since it's just been collecting dust in its box and I thought i might as well sell it.
I know the fucked up screen will greatly impact the price at which i could sell it for but the M1 chip is still powerful and it can still be used with an external monitor connected to it.
I want to know how much this could sell for (say, a ballpark estimate) so I have some knowledge prior to actually selling it.
I saw on Amazon that a new Macbook Pro of the same specs is listed at $1400 while a renewed one is going for $688 (for reference if this helps).
Much thanks in advance!
I apologize if this is the incorrect forum to post this, but I’ve heard all the buzz surrounding the M series chips and managed to acquire a pre-owned M1 MacBook Air for $375. I’m thrilled to embark on a new operating system experience, as my previous Apple encounters were limited to those sleek translucent desktops from the past and owning an iPhone.
However, I have a few concerns. Firstly, I’m worried about the inability to replace the storage. Secondly, I’m searching for a reliable and affordable Dock/Hub to complement my new MacBook Air.
Thank you
Hello :(
I woke up with a broken screen :( I have important files there so first of all, how do I get all my important data to a usb stick? Especially the ones which arent in the cloud?
Secondly, how do I fix it? I dont really remember how it broke. It definitely didnt fall from a tall place, if it fell, it was 30 cm from bed to carpet. It fell a bit back then but nothing happened. I also accidentöy hit it a bit on the keyboard part, bit only some dents. Now I have reached this sizuation.
Can I repair it on my own? I habe no apple care, and bought it 3 years ago.
Ill add pictures in the comments
