I may be off my dot, but does anyone actually benefit from macOS’s Purple and Orange indicators?! Isn't it ironic that Apple wants us to trust them for security but these dots are basically saying, “We trust our security on macOS… but do you?” They keep reminding us to lock the door even though we're already inside their vault.
These dots are like rude people at a movie theater that won't shut up during the show, blinking in my face when I'm trying to watch anything in full screen.
Not to mention the poor folks developing 3rd party apps that are getting side-eyed because Apple’s indicators make us think they’re up to no good. Spoiler alert: developer's can’t turn them off; only Apple can!
Thank goodness for the brilliant developers who created YellowDot and other apps like that! But why can't users have more control over this behavior? Who is actually benefitting from these dots anymore?
Hi there,
I'm looking to invest in a Mac which will be used for music production. I don't work in a professional studio but some of the projects will be quite large so want to get the best spec possible for my budget (approx. £2,000). I was all set to press the button on a Mac Studio, M2 Max, 32GB RAM, 512GB SSD. But the release of the M4 Mac mini has me questioning this. For an additional £100 I could get a Mac Mini M4 Pro chip with 12‑core CPU, 16‑core GPU, 16‑core Neural Engine, 48GB unified memory, 512GB SSD storage. Is it worth the extra outlay for the Mini? Any advice greatly appreciated.
Hello, I am trying to install El Capitan on my second-hand iMac. But even though I have a USB with the OS plugged into the Mac, it still tries to connect to the internet to install, which gives me an error 403 Forbidden. Any suggestions?
Not big but a button size dropplet fell on my mac trackpad should i be worried it will ruin it by seeping into my tracpad internals. fell between the crevice of tracpad and the rest of the body
I've been a long time Windows user, and I'm considering a switch.
I've been looking at mac for a while, due to Tariffs, macs are expensive in my country.
Here are the choices:
• Macbook Air M1 - 600€
• Macbook Air M2 - 800€
I game now and then, League and stuff, but not often. What am I to expect from GPTK?
Any help welcome.
I want to buy a macbook and completely switch to macos, but I often play valorant and I would not like to stop playing, so I am wondering if there is any possibility to play on macos or any alternative, for example windows virtualization.
I want know if base line m4 Mac mini is good for 2d animation and stuff. Also if you guys are doing any animation please DM me if you can. I need to ask few questions regarding it.
Attached is an internet speed test I ran on both Chrome and Safari simultaneously. Chrome is getting download speeds of 206 and Safari is only getting 7. Would there be a simple fix for this?
I love Safari and how natively it works with MacOS, but when it comes to reliability I can’t be waiting 5 minutes to upload a paper when chrome can do it instantly.
Thanks for any advice!
Hello folks. I've had really great service from my 2013 MacBook Pro, and the timing is right to upgrade, and get a new one that is going to last. Part of me would really like to start with a completely clean slate, because eleven years is a while to build up defunct apps, preference files, apps that won't run anymore etc. One example would be that I had at least one virtual machine from Parallels, that I think I have deleted. But of course it would be better to have my preferences, accounts, active apps work. I regularly backup with Time Machine.
My question is: What steps should I take first, and is the best balance is to let Migration Assistant restore from my backup?
Thanks much for your thoughts.
I’ve been using this great app for years- best gui i’ve ever seen for file copying/syncing. Suddenly it’s no longer in the App Store. I guess the developer called it quits when Sequoia released?
I'm currently running a 2018 MacBook Pro - specs below:
It's been a great Mac but in recent months has been struggling with video editing (Premier Pro).
Trying out OBS, even at fairly optimised settings for small file size, it struggles and often throttles.
I know thermals can be a big part due to the confined space of a laptop, compared to a custom built PC.
My question is, would I be best buying a new Macbook Pro (looking at M4 Max option with 16-Core CPU, 40-Core GPU. 48GB Unified Memory) or would I be best waiting for the Mac Studio if my primary purpose would be to use it for streaming and video editing (roughly 4k Max, not 8k video).
Does the Studio offer any better cooling than the new MacBook Pro?
ANNDD, would the Laptop really overheat / need to run the fan hard IF the M4 chip is powerful enough to process what needs to be done?
Every video I have seen of the performance of the new M4 don't mention anything about heat.
Hi, as the title suggests, I want to remap the "option" key on my mac because the option key is sandwiched between the control and cmd keys. I can easily reach the control key using my pinky and use my thumb for the command key. However, I feel it is really awkward to reach for the option key without large movements of my hands.
So, I am wondering if you guys face this problem, and how do you go about it?
P.S. I am referring to left option key but I am happy to hear other suggestions of remapping.
P.P.S I mean which key do you remap option to sorry!
Ever since I bought my Mac M1 Air 2 years ago I've used it for all my schedules past and future. I use two Apple ID's one new and one old. Ive tried everything I just woke up today and all of it is gone. I tried the restore calendar thing in iCloud site and none of it is appearing there. Wtf apple. It's just suddenly gone. Wth am I supposed to do now it's crunch time for me in my work and I can't do anything about this. I tried everything in the net the past 3 hrs and have wasted a lot of time and it's a Monday here. I even tried my old Apple ID's in case it might have accidentally synced there. None. Wtf. Is there a way to see which account it tried to sync to? Or where it went? This is hella stupid I didnt even do any changes in my Apple ID from last night and I was tinkering with my calendar then and when I woke up it's all gone. SOmeone please help
Hey all, not sure where to ask this. But are the silver Macs (display, mini, iMac, MacBooks) that are silver all consistent over time? Basically if I get a silver MacBook do you know or can you tell me if they'd match an older version of those? Basically I have some peripherals that match old silver Macs and I just want to make sure getting a new silver MacBook is the right call.
Hello everyone. I added another user on my MacBook. I want to delete some programs from that account but keep them on the admin account. How can I do this?
I have tried going to the new users account and moving the programs to the trash but they also delete the programs from the admin (mine) account. Please help! It's driving me crazy!
I have a MacBook Air (13-inch, 2017) and right now the macos version I have is 12.7.4. When I try to open imovie I get a message "The version of iMovie installed on this Mac is not compatible with macOS Monterey. You have 'iMovie' 10.1.11. Download version 10.4.2 for free from the App Store." But when I go to the app store it doesn't let me update imovie because it says I require macOS 13.5 or later and i already saw another post saying this mac can't be updated to that version. So what now? How can I continue using imovie?
I’m planning on getting a MacBook for Black Friday. I don’t really care which chip it has since all the M chips are very good. But I am looking for 16GB of ram. Something under 850-950.
Any ideas on when/where the best Black Friday deals come from? Any help would be appreciated.
Wanted to get some opinion about whether it's still worth getting an M2 Mac mini since they're coming down in price a lot after the release of M4 last week. I will primarily use this machine for coding and web dev. Wondering if it's worth paying more and getting the latest or if it may just be worth getting an M2 used from eBay. If so what would you say is a fair price for m2 now?
I'm looking for a external ssd for my 2015 Intel iMac that does not cost a ton and is reliable. What do people recommend?
I bought the base M2 mini last year but would consider upgrading for a combo of a good sale and trade in for my current computer.
I max out there RAM sometimes and wish I had 16gb
