since updating to beta 4 of 14.2 Sonoma, my messages are not indexing when using the search feature in the messages app. anyone else?
I haven't added a single language to my Mac in years and yet today after I updated to Ventura 14.2 (23C5055b) Beta 4, I have 2 new languages - Cantonese and Cherokee.
Did this happen bc of the update? Or is this a weird virus?
I’m on MacOS Sonoma beta. I want to go back to stable Sonoma on my M2 MacBook Air. Can I just download the Sonoma installer from the App Store and roll back using that?
I have made a USB backup of my laptop while I was on the Sonoma stable. Will going into recovery and selecting to install that backup roll the software back?
Thanks in advance for any help
I have noticed that my MBP M1 Pro is slower after updating to Sonoma, animations(some trackpad) seem slower and not as smooth as Ventura. I'm sitting rn with 14.1.1... Any overall improvement in 14.2? Are u expecting to return to the Ventura smoothness? I have read some posts that the beta is going even slower... shouldn't be the other way?
I am considering updating to macOS Sonoma 14.2 beta 4, since after updating to beta 3 my 13-inchM1 MacBook Pro performance was bad, the benchmark was low, and the battery was running out fast. Did anyone update to 14.2 beta 4 can comment about these issues? Thanks
Anyone else see Mail under their battery icon as using significant energy?
In Activity Monitor it is staying consistently at 99.6% Energy Impact is over 3K like consistently between 3,000 and 4,000.

So a few years ago my friend and I were jamming a lot and we started messing around with presonus and studio one. I’m not much of a computer wizard but my friend was confident that he was. He then commenced to downloading all sorts of software etc.. he nstalled windows on my iMac and it is supposed to switch back and forth from one to another but it is now stuck on windows 11. Does anyone know what the command prompt would be to switch the OS back to Mac? I seem to have forgotten and he and I don’t speak anymore
I recently upgraded to Sonoma and this issue is very bothering. I have tested suggestions on this post but none on them worked. Any solution is highly appreciated.

Has anyone else experienced a slower charging process, increased heat generation, and faster battery drainage after updating their MacBook Air M1 to the 14.2 Beta? I seem to be encountering these issues and wondering if others have noticed the same. I've attempted a restart as well.
Anyone else experiencing this issue and completely sick of it? Yes I have reported it immediately after it began, I'm just trying to see if this is something I'm dealing with alone or if other betas have the same problem.
I am running Sonoma Version 14.2 Beta (23C5047e) on my M1 MacBook Pro.
Thanks in advance
Hi r/MacOSBeta,
I want to install MacOS 14.2 Beta 3 on my MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2020, 2.3 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7), which is currently running Sonoma 14.1.1 (23B81). My goal is to install it on an external drive and boot from it, keeping my current system intact.
However, I'm facing challenges:
One method I've considered is installing a fresh Sonoma non-beta version on my external drive, booting from it, and then applying the Software Update to reach Beta 3. Before proceeding with this, I wanted to check here: Is this my only viable option? And would it even work as expected?
Does anyone here have experience with or advice on how to successfully install a macOS Beta on an external drive for an Intel Mac? Any guidance, alternative methods, or insights would be incredibly valuable.
Thanks in advance for your help.
After a restart on beta 3 my finder does not respond after double clicking a folder on the desktop. It is not possible to open a finder window, no App can open the open or save dialoge window. I already tried many things from an almost similar bug on the 14.0 beta.
Killed the dock, killed the finder, reboots, parameter ram, safe mode, recovery, reinstall the Sonoma beta.
And yes, I do not have a working backup that is not too old to just switch back. Anyone with the same problem or maybe even with a solution?
Damn it. I have been struggling with this for weeks now. I don't believe I even have the beta. I broke down and did a clean reinstall of ventura 14.1.1 and redownloaded the latest adobe acrobat reader. I keep getting the above message. I've tried googling, and have not found any results. Surely I am not the only one who has experienced this? what do I do now? thank you so much.
laptop was fine yesterday, then i downloaded this update last night and all of a sudden my laptops battery is draining like crazy! anyone else have this issue? should i go back a version? i’m not sure what i should do
“Remote Queue” as seen in macOS 14.2 Beta 3.
Now in macOS 14.2 Beta 3 (23C5047e), when using the macOS Music.app to interact with song queues that originate directly from HomePod, the media information box will display that it is a “Remote Queue,” rather than a queue origintating on your Mac, likely related to the coming-soon feature of collaborative playlists (?).
Multiple queues, shown by way of the AirPlay contextual menu.
Oddly, the remote queue is not (yet) editable in this version of Music.app—it seems the only ability macOS has as of now is to start/stop or skip tracks. The distinction is important to note, since the "Remote Queue" label indicates that a song queue is managed and played directly from a certain HomePod or external device, giving users a clear indication that they (would be) controlling playback on a remote device.
I find this will be particularly useful in scenarios where multiple HomePod or AirPlay-enabled devices are playing multiple queues in different rooms. It also helps inform any (unfortunately necessary) troubleshooting that comes with owning multiple HomePod.
Universal Control has been horribly unstable for me since 14.1. It crashing intermittently throughout the day. Sometimes it will hang on for hours, other times it will die every few minutes repeatedly. I've nearly given up on it. This was all after nearly a year of it being stable with 13. Nothing else has changed, either networking or hardware since it was working well with 13.
Does the 14.2 beta make it better?
Did macOS beta 14.2 23C5041e completely break Mail.app search for anyone else? It seems to alternate between not finding anything at all, to finding too much without filtering out anything so the messages pane on the left still shows every message. I tried re-indexing Mail but that didn't work, then I tried deleting the Mail index completely and rebuilding (both with Onyx) but that didn't work, either.
Anyone have a fix for this? It only happened today, a few days after the update. Yesterday didn’t have this issue. Restarted and still occurring.
Ive noticed the last 2 betas for 14.2, every folder I open in finder, opens in the same window but new tab. I made sure the 'open in tabs instead of windows' was unchecked. I checked and unchecked it and rebooted but still opens in new tab. anyone else seeing this?
Hello.
Either since I updated to new 14.2 Beta 2 yesterday or since I ran "App Cleaner & Uninstaller" to remove some remaining undeleted files earlier today, don't know for sure what is causing the issue, but at least now whenever I click on "Edit Widgets" on the Desktop it tries to open the Widget window, fails, crashes and then restarts the Desktop.
Here a video of the issue:

Anyone else having this issue by any chance and knows how to fix it so I can edit Widgets again?
Thx in advance
Hi, After upgrading to beta 2 on my m1 iMac I continue to have audio/microphone issues for example with Discord.
After several minutes the operating system no longer finds the microphone, the audio becomes mute, I have system lags.
It also happens by accessing in the system settings, audio devices sometimes give as the value “unknown”.
