Hello everyone, I bought a refurbished iPod 5.5 80, mp3s sound great, but the alac files sound discontinuous, as if jumping forward a second Has anyone encountered a similar problem, is there anything that can be done
Hi!
So I got my replacement 3rd gen Nano yesterday (replacing an identical one of the same model that I already had, with a battery that no longer held much of a charge, and an aging display). When I received it, I discovered that the 3rd party cables I'd bought off amazon (for the previous one I had) are duds. When I plug the iPod in to charge, it doesn't recognize the cable unless I let the display fall asleep then put the iPod on Hold and then plug the cable in... then it seems to realize that it's plugged into a charging source, and it works.
The new (replacement) iPod I received came with a new cable, which works perfectly.
So, I'd like to replace the two duds I'd ordered - can anybody help steer me in the right direction on a couple of functional 3rd party cables? And can you tell me what to look out for when choosing?
TIA!
I went on pretty much every site that has used iPods broken or not available and they’re all full of overpriced iPods! Even in shocking condition.
It’s so frustrating that people are taking advantage of the popularity and making the devices way too overpriced. I saw someone selling unmodified iPods for $1000, saying ‘I know what they’re worth, I saw some going for $40000!!!’
Anyway I’m just mad I can’t find a reasonable priced iPod for daily use, as the hard drive in mine is crapping itself, and I don’t want to ruin the metal finish opening it back up…
Oh well, anyone else noticed this???
These were all mine new, and are all engraved. Both Nano 3rd gens were given by my work. The 7th Gen was a birthday gift. The classic 5th gen was bought new in 2005 and is almost 20 years. I’m refurbishing the 5th gen with parts from EOE. The nano 7th works great. One of the nano 3rd gen’s works good, the other has lines on the screen. Not sure if I want to fix it yet since I have a working version already.
Note: my ears are not thrashed, and is this not an EU iPod. Must’ve been a firmware update for a volume limit.
Thank you so much for receiving many comments on the Give Away. Those two packages are on its way to the winners. Big cheers to you!!!
For those who missed this chance, don't forget the biggest sale on Nov 11th - 12th, GMT+7 Indochina Time Zone.
You can grab your favourite leather case with only $38.
If you've been on the fence, it's a great opportunity.
From Vietnam with love ❤
Just modded my Ipod 5.5 and it was working fine, restored it, synch music and eveything working fine except I realised the center button wasn't put correctly and would stay stuck. So I went for another round of opening it to put the center button correctly. While closing everything again I broke the black piece that holds the screen connection and got that white screen.
Going back and forth and trying to "pad" the connection as you said, I still have the white screen but am now convinced it's not about the screen... Because when I turn it on it's not just the screen ; I can't use the Ipod, meaning I can't play music, it doesn't look like it's just a display issue... Also Itunes doesn't spot the Ipod even though the computer does
If you guys have any idea, it's getting quite sad here ^^
I guess Imma have to look for another 5.5 now

Also even though the computer recognize something is plugged it won't open in Itunes - except if I restart it with Center + Menu then press Center + Down, then Itunes recognize it and would let me restore it (and interesting enough, for this restoring time the screen gets grey for a while), but this doesn't change anything...

I guess Imma try to get another Ipod 5.5 and start again....
Hi guys,
Today I try to mod my iPod Classic 6th Gen for the first time. Wish me luck!
I'll update this post once it's done and hope it'll we work perfectly ahah
This comes when I purchase this one on French equivalent of Craig's List and few month after use the disk was in error (basically dead) so I decided to revive it
I've had to do some research because 6th Gen seems the one with perticulier constraint compare to 5th and 7th Gen (the SD card size depending of use of basic OS or through Rockbox, etc...).
I've chose a 3000mAh because I've got a thick back plate and a iFlash solo with a 256Go SD card 'cause (depending on what kind of audio files you use) but I founded that for .mp3 file I can store around 35k files which more than my life time cherrish music
If it works and before jumping into another iPod I think I'll clean my research for 6th Gen into a document with every info and piece of advice for totally beginners
If there is French inhabitant around here, where do you buy your iPods parts?
I've been pretty fucked by the purchasing in EOE (customs fees + delivery costs)
See you in few hours ahah
EDIT:
- 10 minutes: I've already trashed the home button cable like dipp shit for fuck sake I was so gentle!!!
Keep going, I might find a work around for now...
- Few hours later, I take some time to do other stuff as I struggled with my new SD cards (I've got error but it was in fact related to my SD card reader, I use another one and everything is fine). Even my terrible error with the home switch button, I continued by adding the iFlash solo mod and the battery. It was mainly to test if it works, and for now yes. Now I'm concentrate on 2 things in that order: first, install only Rockbox to not be stuck by the 128Gb limits, then, I have to check every inside corner to be sure that my iPod will close nicely
as the title tells, my power button doesnt work anymore and i wanna fix it but I dont really know where to find a good toutorial/Video. any recomendations
Using it with conjunction of this week’s bought Apple Radio Remote and it’s just very cool to skip/rewind/forward/pause etc. while working extensively out, without looking at the screen of my iPod! 💪🏻
So far, lovin’ it! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Got a question. Would there be a noticeable difference between a AACs and ALAC on a home theater system? I heard that the audio quality is better via 30pin if I recall correctly. Got 2 old but good sony columns attached to this.
So,
I just bought the M4 Mac Mini to replace my old iTunes iMac (Late 2006 24in, Running Snow Leopard) and the first thing I did was restore and sync my two iPods, a 5.5 and a 7.
Restoring is broken - Finder freezes and restore never completes
I can sync the music alright, I haven't done videos or photos but I assume that works. I am concerned that with all issues with Finder that there will be corruption issues with the iPods, especially the 5th because it is using a HDD.
I know the modern macOS versions have some issues with restoring, but this is ridiculous. I know I wont be doing that often but it has soured my experience. I bought this Mac to be my main music computer and media PC, but I am considering taking it back to the Apple Store. I thought it may be the USB C to A adapters I was using but I have read that other people have been having issues on native USB A Macs as well under Ventura and above.
I also hear that the USB SuperDrive only works with the Apple USB C to A adapter, I haven't tried it yet?
Any one else have issues or tips here.
Thanks
With old battery the ipod tummy was bigger than usual :)DM me if you want to buy one but available only in india
Hey,
First off, let me say thank you to everyone keeping the iPod community and modding communities alive. I love seeing all the builds and I appreciate all the helpful guides and tips.
So I’m just getting into modding iPods, and I’m stoked I have a huge iTunes library of all sorts of music that I’ve worked on and collected since I was a kid. Literally the same music files from Limewire, Bearshare, etc in my iTunes.
I’m just now getting into modding iPods since the iTunes library is just too big for normal iPod classic storage.
*Question:*
I have read the Wolfson DAC on the 5.5 is the best.
Does this DAC matter / impact my listening experience if I am using a portable amplifier like the Fiio E12 Mont Blanc?
Will I actually notice a difference of the Wolfson DAC if I am also using the Fiio?
Or will the use of the Fiio portable amplifier like somehow negate the benefits of the Wolfson DAC??
Also, what are the benefits for my personal use of using the Fiio portable amplifier vs not using one??
Not sure if this is making any sense or not.
Thanks all. <3
When I sit the desk it’s an absolute dead zone but we have WiFi. Sometimes I use my phone for work purposes and would let to get an iPod. Just for movies/tv shows and the occasional FaceTime call. I see Amazon has iPods. Which one would be best for the reasons I mentioned above? Thank you in advance!
I’m getting this error message when I try to copy videos over to my flash modded 5th and 6th generation iPod classics. I encoded the videos in handbrake using the smallest setting and checking the 5th Gen iPod compatibility box.
The issue is also happening with videos that previously worked on my iPods.
I’m running macOS 15 Sequoia if that makes a difference.
What is everyone complaining about? Maybe I was lucky.
I ordered all the right tools and they are scheduled to arrive Tuesday. But I noticed a black spot on my iPod after I charged it for the first time in years. I was afraid it would get worse so I used a sculpting tool to crack it open. I watched all the videos and I was able to target all the clips. Took me a few minutes and two tiny scruffs along the edge of my faceplate.
Now time to figure out what I want to mod. I’m thinking a little bigger battery and an affordable way to add a 128gb sd card.
Today I was screwing around with my 4th gen listening to music and vibeng. I have Rockbox on it cuz why not. I lock it and wonder off with my friends and come back, unlock it and it shows the low battery icon (a battery with a warning icon) and now it's unresponsive. I don't have access to firewire and it won't respond to wall power or a pc (windows)
I am going to buy an ipod for a very special someone, but it'll be like a mix-tape as in preloaded with music and videos, I am using ITUNES on my PC to sync.
My question is, can the very special someone load it on their itunes on their mac and not have any problems. The ipod isn't attached to my Itunes and PC? It's an IPOD nano 7th gen
I've been using a iPod touch for the last week or 2, and noticed it has a bulge in the bottom left corner of the screen, popping it slightly out of the device. The battery is in somewhat decent shape, and will easily last more than 2 days with no use and about a day with normal use, (for a 15 year old device i would assume that's not bad). But i'm concerned that said bulge could come from a swollen battery, and might cause problems in the future. Thank you.
I have a 7th gen iPod nano that I want to add new music onto but whenever I try to restore it through iTunes, it says the iPod cannot be restored because "it contains files that are in use by another application."
Just for full clarity: I have iTunes downloaded on a Windows 11 laptop and I'm using a USB dock to connect the iPod to the laptop (since the laptop has no USB-A port).
Any clues how to fix this?
Can I put music from my iPhone to my iPod nano 3rd generation? I have a think pad buts it’s really old and doesn’t really work. Is there a way to put music from my iPhone XR to the iPod?
