We all (or most of us) probably remember the old screensavers that used to come with macOS/Apple TV. The NatGeo pics (I think there was also a landscape one and a wildlife one) These were removed in Mojave I believe, and I was wondering if anyone knows where I could find the official source images (If NatGeo/Apple has them available for download) I've missed them, and would like them as my screensaver again. My Mac just...doesn't feel as much like a Mac without them lol

Are there ANY good new screensavers out there except Apple’s own that you know of? I have been scouring the Internet off and on for a while with little to show for.

I know there have been similar posts about this but I'm really struggling! My 2013 macbook air completely shut down the other day and when I re-started it I got the folder with the question mark. I attempted all routes such as internet recovery, safe mood, resetting but nothing worked so my next step was to create a bootable USB with High sierra on it. However, I'm really struggling to do this on my new 2021 M1 Macbook as every time I download High sierra from apple, it comes in a package and then I even tried Mist to download the software and that didn't work either. It then won't let me do createinstall media in terminal but it does exist in the resources folder.

I don't know what I did to cause this but I can't for the life of me find a way to put them back together. So I have two windows, one contains the "toolbar" plus the list of notes in each category. And when I double click on a note a new separate window opens with the note. This is not what it ever did in the past. ANy ideas?

This is a weird thing to be posting in 2024 (and in truth it's been happening for a few years, and speaks to Apple's falling standards imo, but thaaaat's a different post), but whenever I playback a simple video in quicktime it always hiccups– doesn't matter if it's a H264/5 or ProRes or some other mainstream codec, high data rare or low.

I have to regularly review videos for brands for work, and it's simply dumb that even in a native codec with a $5k Applie silicon laptop and a blazing fast SSD that videos should be hiccuping all the time.

Has anyone experienced this or found a solution/workaround? Has anyone switched solely over to VLC or something similar, and if so has it negatively affected workflow at all?

My 2019 MBP doesn’t remember the size and position of the apps after I reopen them, as it did on Sonoma. For example I had Finder and settings apps configured to open on the left half, music app centered and some others on the right side. Now settings and finder open on center in small window. BUT my XnConvert app works well and opens surely with the position last quitted.

Please help, I'm getting nervous resizing and repositioning every single time I open Finder

So, usually in order to playback bit-perfect audio on MacOS, you have to check the sample rate of the song and make sure Audio MIDI Setup matches. On non-Atmos songs, you can just look at the sample rate.

With a Dolby Atmos song, it just says Dolby Atmos if outputting on an Atmos capable device or it shows no information at all in stereo.

Does anyone know how to find out what the sample rate of the stereo files are? As far as I can tell, they would either be 48,000Hz or 96,000Hz because that is what Dolby says their renderer supports. Is there any way to find out exactly what each song's sample rate is? I tried the freeware Lossless Switcher app, but it spazzes out on Atmos tracks and switches randomly between sample rates.

I hate how Game Mode mutes all notifications while I’m playing a game on full screen, but I don’t want to disable the feature. I tried creating a focus setting for gaming, with notifications allowed from specific apps (Messages and Slack), but Game Mode seems to override it and I still don’t get the notifications.

Is there any way to fix this, short of not using Game Mode?

I tried to update my Macbook (2020 M1 chip) to Sequoia a few days ago and it massively failed the update (I have since learned my lesson and will wait a few months before updating MacOS). I got stuck in the user login screen loop with seemingly no way out so I panicked and just wiped my Mac, knowing that I had an external hard drive with my data backed up on it. I was able to restore my Mac back to Sonoma which it was previously running on.

However, now I am having issues with Migration Assistant. I think my external hard drive must be encrypted or something because my Time Machine backup is not showing up as an option to load from. I know my connection is good because I have a partition on the drive just for photos and that is still showing up, just Time Machine isn’t. I’m not sure how to make the Time Machine backup visible?

Starting to get a little freaked out by this whole ordeal and that I’m not going to be able to get my data back on this computer / not be able to access it on any computer.

I’m having issues with using my Apple ID to enable messages on my Mac. I recently changed my password and couldn’t remember it after I was logged out. When trying to reset my password, I got a message I’ve never seen. Has anyone experienced this? There’s no information on the timeline it will take to verify my account and doesn’t say how to know when my account is verified.

I used to often see pressure in the yellow band on Sonoma but I've not yet seen this on Sequoia.

I’ve got some funky firmware issues going on with my 2021 M1 Max - while attempting to DFU restore via finder to my managed work laptop as the host (2024 M3 air) the host states I’m unauthorized to restore the M1 Max.

Would using Apple Configurator on my managed work laptop help it to restore the M1 Max?

I know traditionally silicon chips restore via finder - but I’m guessing the vpn / something managing my work laptop is preventing it.

So I've had an odd thing going on consistently for all of this year, if not further into last, and looking for some thoughts.

I'm working in Sonoma 14.6.1. I consistently make PDF's, PNG's and JPG's throughout the day from the Adobe Suite of programs. Upon saving, I then switch over to Mail to attach the file and proof out to a client. Most commonly this is a PDF, as that's how I proof my work (graphic designer) and prepare files for the printer.

The problem I'm encountering is that when I save the PDF (or JPG or PNG, etc.) from it's originating program, then switch to Mail and click attach, when I navigate to where that file was saved, it is always grayed out and cannot be attached. I cancel my attachment window, and then go to attach the file again, and it now available to be attached, no longer grayed out.

This happens nearly EVERY time. While it's a minor annoyance, I've done this thousands of times...attach, cancel, attach, and it's wasted who knows how much time. Every once in awhile, the file isn't grayed out first try, but it's rare and it happens so rare that when it does, I take notice.

I thought it might have to do with how quickly I'm moving between programs, or not giving the file time enough to save. I've confirmed that's not the case by waiting minutes before trying, in testing. I've also confirmed it's not just the Mail program either, as other programs will experience this same issue, for instance when placing a JPG or PNG into my document, after having just created or edited the file in another program.

There's potential for it to be something with graphic files, but I don't think that's the case. That said, I can't figure out anything more. I keep my OS updated, and yes, I know that Sequoya 15 is out, I've just not adopted it quite yet due to workflow.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I’ve been running on Mojave, the original OS from the time I got this back in 2019, and just haven’t updated it since but have decided to update to the latest version now. I’m currently on macOS Mojave 10.14.6. When I was trying to update to to Sequoia, the latest OS, I’ve run into this issue.

What’s the fix? Any help will be appreciated.

I have a shortcut that create rich text and copy it to clipboard. On my Mac mini I’m able to paste the rich text to any other app like mail, Safari and Notes. However, when I tried to do the same (same shortcut) on my old MacBook Air, I was not able to paste it to the mail or Safari. It’s actually like there is nothing on the clipboard. The same it happens on my new MacBook Air and all on my iPhone. I tried to get support from Apple and the representative didn’t want to help me because it claims that it is a shortcut problem. Hi, I had just opened up my macbook and after just a few minutes the screen quality got really bad. Everything looked almost like an overexposed photo. Besides that, every window had this bluish aura around it. Turning down brightness and shutting down apps didn't change anything. Looking online I don't really see the issue being discussed, so I hope I'm not posting something that's been mentioned a gazillion times. Can anyone tell me what's going on with my macbook? I love Safari for its interface and simplicity, but if it's not for the lack of URL predictions in Chrome I'd have switched years ago.

Now, since I upgraded to Sequoia, every day I have to open Chrome for tasks that Safari does simply NOTHING. I wait and retry but nothing. Clicking on buttons, searching for products on websites, downloading reports, etc.

Are programmers working less and less with Safari or do I have to adjust settings? It's driving me nuts.

System 6 (System not OS or MacOS) for me and it was on a SE and SE30.

System 7 allowed us to change icons and that was awesome. We had a lot of fun with that at work.

Jaguar was revolutionary. I fell in love with iCal.

I know i can use command + tild (~) to swap windows. For ex. I have multiple Window for same browsers.

The tild (~) key is close to control key its a bit uncomfortable to use.

I never use tab key.. how can i repurpose the tab key for that?
