I work for a client who has 5 AppleTVs, and 2 of them are having ping response issues. They're all connected via ethernet with static IPs and monitored via PRTG with PING sensors. Here's a screenshot of PRTG's chart tracking lost packets.
I can't think of what's going wrong - the other 3 are connected in the same way and are the same model, and are working fine. These two are plugged into a new, very nice, stacked Dell N3248P-ON switch. I've swapped out the old ethernet cables with tested good CAT7 cables, no change.
Luckily, there's no issue that the user would really experience, but I want to avoid the user experiencing any potential disruption that could result from this.
Has anyone else had this issue and resolved it?
Hey everyone! I like a lot of you were excited yesterday when RetroArch made it's appearance on the App Store. Sadly, cloud saves aren't nearly as easy on Apple devices apparently as they are on PC/Android, but they are possible. I had a comment on the RetroArch release chronicling my adventure in setting up Cloud Sync but felt like making a more streamlined post may be more helpful to others.
A few caveats to start:
With those out of the way, let's start!
All in all, this whole process takes roughly 15-30 minutes, but well worth it IMO. As I said this is for internal cloud sync, and you shouldn't be able to reach back on an external network. This YouTube video mentions setting it up for external use at the end, but also directs you to a paid service (in my research last night, it seemed like the only way without enabling port forwarding and opening your whole home network up involved paying for some sort of service).
Lastly, I mentioned up top but want to reiterate: this is only for Windows and I do intend to play with MacOS tonight to try and get something setup. I will update this post with any findings for MacOS!
Please feel free to reach out with any questions. Happy Gaming all!
Running 2017 Apple TV 4K , tvOS 17.4 - I’m trying to keep a photo up on the photos app while music is playing, but after a few minutes the Apple Music app opens almost like a screensaver. Is there any way to change this setting/stop this from happening ? I’ve had a look around and have the screensaver off, nothing obvious from what I see in those menus.
Any ideas why? I'm using iPlayer, Netflix and Plex and the Samsung SmartTV apps all playback with better blacks and minimal noticeable compression artefacts.
The AppleTV 4k (2021) equivalent apps have paler washed out blacks, and awful compression artefacts - particularly visible in dark scenes.
Or maybe wait 1 or two moths and hope for a new apple tv?
Hello, for some reason it says I have Dolby vision on the Apple TV setting but not on the tv settings. When I try to change the picture setting the Dolby vision settings aren’t available when viewing DV content, Dolby Vivid, Bright etc. thank you.
I really like this remote, but it's ridiculous how both power buttons have popped out. And then like clockwork (I don't think it's related), the left remote pictured won't even register left clicks. I don't lay on the remotes and I don't have animals or children. I do have a Genius appontment this weekend in hopes of receiving a fix or replacement, but it's so frustrating. Anyone else have remote issues?
Ive noticed that my ATV 4k 1st gen is lagging while scrolling trough app, anything I can do?
Hi all,
I already have apple tv 4k 128gb model on my main tv, I do use homekit. I just got a new tv for upstairs with no ethernet socket, if I buy wifi version for upstairs will I still get notifications from homekit or watch cameras through the wifi apple tv aswell? I read that wifi model does not have thread so just want to make sure.
thank you
So we're looking at getting an Apple TV box for the main TV in the lounge and TV Launcher to stream live tv as well as Netflix etc.
We also have another TV in the bedroom where we'd want the same setup, streaming live TV, Netflix etc. Do we need to effectively buy two boxes, doubling our cost?
Today I used the YouTube app on the Apple TV, i saw there was an Apple TV update so I installed it after that the YouTube app stopt working and it’s saying that I haven’t got a internet connection, all of my other streaming apps works just fine. Anybody knows what the problem is?
Since I connected my Apple TV to a pretty old tv I started seeing like cubed on the white when watching things what is it?
Not finding anything specific for replacement remotes. Basically my original remote ended up in the washer (don’t ask) and ceased to function. So I ordered a new one but not sure how to pair.
For the last month or so, whenever I watch content on Max, most of the time it won’t show up in the Up Next section of Apple TV. At first I thought maybe it was a glitch but there’s been a few updates since then and it hasn’t fixed the issue. Does anyone know what’s going on with that?
Hey all! Just got a Samsung S90C and loving it so far but I hate the Tizen OS. Been on the fence about getting the Ethernet 4kTV to make life simpler and was wondering if stream quality and picture was better through the apple device instead of say the stock tv apps or even game console apps? I feel like the stock Netflix app could be better and it got me thinking..
[SOLVED] I've had an AppleTv since 2015 and I've always been a huge fan. I have now bought a new 4K AppleTV and it depends on the same installation as the old one before. The sound is given from the TV via arc to the soundbar. This has always worked so far. However, the new one has a problem. When the soundbar is connected, the picture flickers and I only see points, and the soundbar pops. When I disconnect the HDMI cable of the soundbar, there are no problems. Other devices have no problems with the soundbar. Do any of you know the problem?
There so much you can play around with it:
Send notification for food delivers UberEats (then expand in large map)
Air tags tracking
Share smart camera between houses?
-Flight tracking?
Basically ipad equivalent but TV screen. Might as-well use chip to full potential
So title question. Anyone know? Should I set my Apple TV to english aswell..? Is that really fucking necessary to get rid of the bs CC? I turn it off in a video, it stays off for 24 hours tops then it's back again. Repeat process. I'm pretty fucking pissed right now it keeps going back on. I just want it to be off by default. Not a hard ask.
I found a listing on FB marketplace for $50. Would it be worth it since its just the first gen(32gb) one or should I just save my $50 for a bit and get the newest one? It looks in good condition and seller said that its only been used ~5 times.
edit: there are a few features from the apple website of the newest one that I would really like to have. Namely, being able to connect airpods/beats, shareplay, and automations.
Thanks in advance!
My apple tv was updating and bricked itself. I reached out to apple and they were zero help. Repair would cost as much as a new one. I have the gen that doesn’t have the usb port. Any suggestions? Horrible customer service tbh. My fault for not getting apple care but the device messing up via an upgrade should get some type of service.
I can’t seem to get either of these apps to work on Apple TV. Anyone else have problems with this? I have the Apple TV 4K and it’s up to date
I’m coming back from vacation and trying to watch the Knicks/Pacers game on YouTube TV and I get arena audio, sound effects but not commentary. Same thing with the hockey game and the WNBA, even Bob’s Burgers.
However, if I watch the WNBA game through the Disney+ app I get full audio. But AppleTV+ does the same audio channel issue.
I have a A1842, connected to a Sony XJ90 75” and a Vizio 5.1 soundbar with Atmos connected through eARC. Match content is on. If I switch to the TV speakers the sound is normal.
Without knowing much about all this, is it something to do with 5.1 audio? Is there a setting I’m missing?
I have a ATV 4K (Gen 1) and I recently purchased a denon soundbar, which is connected to my LG OLED CS TV via eARC, and recently my soundbar has randomly started disconnecting when playing content and appears to be at random times.
I’ve noticed this only seems to be happening with Amazon prime video content, as I recently watched Fallout and a couple of movies, all of these were UHD Dolby Atmos content and suffered from blackouts. Tonight I started watching a series on Netflix in DV with DA and there was no blackouts.
I can only describe my issue as a very similar one to the handshake issue, except it happens at random times and not at the start. The screen will go black and the sound stops, although what I’m watching continues, and then within about 3/4 seconds the DV and DA logos reappear and the content continues.
I tried another cable last week as I thought it was the cable, which was brand new that came with my soundbar, but it still happens.
Anyone else facing issues with Amazon Prime video content?
I recently bought a LG C3 a few weeks ago and loving it. I have a Panasonic UB-420 4K UHD blu ray player to watch movies, but I'm quickly realizing how costly it becomes to watch movies this way. I understand the argument for physical media, but damn, $20 or so per movie adds up quickly.
So I've decided to only buy my very favorite movies on 4K blu ray, and stream everything else. I've been using the apps included with the LG TV (such as Hulu, Disney+, Paramount+, Prime, etc.) and I can tell a difference in picture quality. I did a side by side comparison and the 4K blu ray is definitely superior.
My question is, if I were to buy an AppleTV, how much would the picture quality improve over using the built in apps? Would it bring it closer to 4K blu ray quality, or will the 4K blu ray still have a significant better picture? I'm just wondering if it would be worth it for me to buy an AppleTV or not...
