In my house we primarily use Android phones. I bought both an ONN 4k pro and a new Apple TV (the 129$ one)

I haven't opened or used the apple TV yet. The ONN does mostly what I want it to, which primarily I use it to play music or YouTube by casting from my android phone. The rest of the functionality is cool, the Google TV stuff works fine but I'm sure Apple would do well at this.

The other reason I got both, was because it's nice to be able to use airplay to use my living room monitor as a second screen for my family's MacBooks. I got this working with the ONN, by installing airstream, and although a little wonky, does display the 1080 second monitor from all my MacBooks. It'd be nice if it were a little more seamless, so I'm still tempted to try the appleTV, but I do have one main concern.

Can I "cast" things from my android phones to the apple TV like I can with the ONN? I can't seem to find recent or consistent information on if this is possible.

Also, I'm not sure if there are any other advantages I'm missing.

I’m trying to set up apple tv 4k- hue sync box 4k- samsung s93 oled so I can sync lights but the appleTV only allows 1080p output when connected through sync box.

It allows 4k hdr by itself, but once sync box is connected as above, it is only 1080p max. I’ve checked that all my HDMI cables are 4k.

Really stuck and would appreciate some input…

Saw Friday Night Lights was limited time price of $4.99 so I went to go buy it and when I open the page to buy the price is $14.99. Anyone ever see anything like this?

Any way to change hdmi input via remote or any other way? I don’t want to use remote from normal tv.

I'm having significant issues with the YouTube app on my AppleTV:

• Audio won't start until 10+/- seconds into the video. All videos...
• Sometimes the video will jump forward several minutes right after clicking on a video.
• Sometimes I have to retry starting a video. I have to go back and forth several times to get a video to start playing.

My AppleTV is the latest version with tvOS 18.0.

This behavior only happens on my AppleTV on my Sony Bravia TV. I've removed and re-installed the YouTube app and it still does the crap. YouTube on my laptop works just fine. Same with my iPhone, so I'm thinking it isn't something goofy with my YT Premium account. This has been happening for a couple of months now...

Is anyone else seeing this? Does anyone know how to fix this craziness?????

So I have two Apple TV 4K's and it's only happening on one so it's a issue on my side probably. I tried reinstalling the app but that didn't work, any ideas on how to troubleshoot?

I'm using a Flydigi Vader 3 Pro in Bluetooth mode. It connects to my Apple TV 4K under Bluetooth settings but when start up a game it doesn't so anything in game. I'm trying to play Castlevania and Dead Cells+ so I know the games have controller support

Hi. I've just noticed that Dolby Atmos is not playing on any prime video shows which are supposed to be Dolby Atmos. Yes I'm aware that you need to have a higher tier of prime video to get this, which I have, and I'm aware that you need to have passed through enabled on the TV. If the TV is on pass-through or auto, I still get no Dolby Atmos. The Apple TV just reverts to stereo. Is this a bug for TV OS 18?

Hi guys. I have a Sonos Arc, Sonos Amp, Sub and 4 architectural in ceiling. Everytime I use my ATV I have to keep manually changing audio to my surrounds as opposed to receiver speakers and even sometimes without my doing it just connects back to receiver speakers.

I have a Sony A80L, pass through is on. speakers are set to audio system, audio system prioritization is on, A/V sync is on, eArc mode is auto, Digital Audio out is Auto 1, Dolby Digital Plus output is Dolby digital plus.

Sonos Arc is connected to eArc port on Sony, Apple TV on the next best that’s not eArc, Ethernet from Arc to my “Router” and Ethernet from Amp to “Router”.

I can think of a bunch of things an ai home hub could do for smart home like Unlock my smart lock only if I’ve been gone 20 mins and my phone is in my pocket and my camera recognizes me. Turn on lights when I’m 20 mins from home. Use my gps and when I’m x minutes from the house start my thermostat. Start dishwasher and laundry when that green energy is up etc

I recently purchased an Apple TV 4K 2nd generation used.

My LG OLED TV is a Dolby Vision-enabled model

However, the Apple TV only shows HDR in the 4K option.

Dolby Vision only supports 1080p.

Doesn't Apple TV support 4K Dolby Vision?

The box says 4K HDR, and Dolby Vision doesn't say 4K.

Maybe it just doesn't support it

Long story short, I replaced the HDMI cable with a certified ultra high speed cable (48 Gbps) after having issues with the remote control. Everything is buttery smooth now and it only cost me $13.

Longer version: I bought an ATV 4K (1st gen) for my parents some years ago. The remote control was working fine (but still noticeable lag/hickups at times) until they moved few years ago where the distance from the TV and other factors made it much worse. It still shouldn’t act this way I thought, as the distance is not that great, and I remember briefly reading that replacing the HDMI cable may fix things (not even sure where I read it). So I finally decided to give it a try and it fixed the issues. Now I’m able to tuck/hide the box away completely.

The HDMI cable that was in use before the replacement is not a bad cable either, though not entirely sure of the specs, which is why I was a bit skeptical at first. Good enough for me to not think that was the issue.

Simple solution to a frustrating problem. I’m sure it has been discussed here before but thought I’d share here if someone else has the same issue or for someone to find this post later on.

Is there really no way to lock the content to landscape mode? It’s super frustrating that the only way to watch something in landscape is too change the rotation lock in settings, and then depending on how youre sitting or lying it will switch between portrait and landscape. Unless Im missing something super basic here. Can’t believe such a basic function is missing.

ATV opens and reverts to an Apple TV+ program, any fixes?

Mom's built-in TV OS isn't working,, so thought I would give her one of my old Apple TV 2nd gens. I have two apparently. I plugged them both in there are no apps. Connected to wifi and everything. It only has 720p as well. Did Apple disable the apps on these old ones??

So my Siri remote is constantly pushing the TV volume down to zero – if I fight it with the TV remote (turning it louder), I can hinder it somewhat, but as long as the infrared is in the range of the TV, it's inevitably going to zero. This just started happening, the remote and my Apple TV 4K worked fine for months.

I read that I should "reset" my remote by long-pressing the TV button and the Volume down key – tried that, also reset my AppleTV to factory settings, didn't work. Unpaired the remote from Apple TV and now can't even pair it back anymore.

I guess it's possible that the actual physical buttons stop working, right? Any other ideas what I could still try? Otherwise will try to get a warranty replacement. But I'm afraid this is still a software glitch.

I’m thinking if it’s possible to have 2 HomePods act as surround sound or just in sync while also playing off speakers connected to the Apple TV?

So I have a question. I’ve got the 2022 Apple TV 4K 128 version. It’s the one with the 1 GBPs Ethernet port in the back. I have it wired directly to my router and I’m wondering who here also has this same Apple TV? Also, assuming you have the Speedtest.net app by Ookla downloaded on your Apple TV, what speed do you normally get on your Aople TV? I get around 940/940 but I seem to still have streaming issues. I’m no good at networking so I’m hoping someone here may be able to assist me.

I genuinely think they purposely made the app unusable. They made turning off captions go from incredibly difficult to downright impossible. I’m losing my mind. Who would purposely make their app this shit. If you go turn off captions on a different show then switch to something live they turn captions back on. I despise this app. Absolutely pissed that the nhl is on it.

I sit about 10 feet from my TV and always struggle with the subtle way Apple indicates whether a program or movie is selected. The selection is only slightly larger than the non-selected items. Why can’t Apple put a noticeable border around your selection similar to what Roku does?

Sometimes I'll play a game on my laptop while also watching something on the TV being streamed from an Apple TV. I listen to audio via BT earbuds and wanted to hear the Apple TV audio and Windows audio through the BT earbuds simultaneously.

I tried a few approaches and so far what's worked best is to make my laptop an Airplay receiver by running an app called TuneAero. You just run it on a Windows machine and make it an airplay receiver. Then I do a long press on Home on the Apple TV remote, select Audio, then pick it from the list (by default it shows up with the name of the Windows computer).

AirServer is another app to make Windows an Airplay receiver, but it seemed more finicky than TuneAero.

There are some gaming headsets/earbuds that let you hear audio simultaneously from two different sources - over bluetooth from one source and over RF wireless from a Windows PC (using USB dongle). But many of them only let you have connections at the same time that can be quickly switched between and do NOT let you hear audio from both sources simultaneously. Some Steelseries Arctis headsets DO let you hear from both sources at once. Nova Pro is one I personally got working like that.

Sony Inzone earbuds support dual simultaneous connections BT + RF via USB dongle, BUT for Bluetooth only support LE Audio (LC3), which Apple TV does not support.

Note that the "multipoint" Bluetooth feature that many newer BT devices have does NOT let you hear from both sources at once - just quickly switch between them.

I also tried the Wiim mini airplay receiver, which has AUX out, which I connected to AUX port on my laptop, then set the "Listen to this device" setting for the microphone. Sound quality was really poor with this approach. Not sure why. But it wasn't even close to being tolerable audio quality.

And while apparently there's a way to make Windows be a bluetooth reciever, I couldn't figure out how to do it.

Actuellement j'ai ma PS5 qui est sur le HDMI 1 et l'Apple TV sur l'Hdmi 2 ( je n'utilise pas l'Hdmi 3 ) les 2 ports USB sont libre, le port optic et aussi libre, et le port jack est relier à mes 2 Enceinte Swissonic MM-3 et actuellement que je sois sur mon Apple TV, PS5 ou le système android de la TV le son sort de mes enceintes sans problème, mais j'aimerais passer sur une barre de son pour que ça fasse plus propre et pour un gain de place aussi, mais après m'être renseigner un peu je ne suis passer sur de tout comprendre niveau branchement, et je ne sais pas non plus quel barre de son choisir dans un budget de 200€ max. My silver Siri Remote no longer holds a charge. Is the rechargeable battery replaceable or do I need to get a new remote? From what I can find online, it looks like a real pain to take apart, i.e. not designed with replaceable battery. So, I think I need to get a new remote. Am I missing something?

Before tvOS 18 netflix was running so beautiful. After updating to tvOS 18 I've noticed a lot of Picture stuttering and sporadic quality drops. Definitely not my wifi or HDMI cable. Need help...

Why are there two different memory sizes offered on the Apple TV? Exactly what does it do? Is it storing some content locally? Does it make it faster or more responsive?

I debated on posting this in r/paranormal but I think it’s far more likely there is a rational explanation that I have yet to find but here goes -

Back on January 20 of this year, I was downstairs in my basement watching tv and after some time had fallen asleep.

Eventually I was awoken by my son shouting down from the steps upstairs “Hey Dad, do we have the movie Ghostbusters Afterlife?”. I said “No, but I think it might be streaming somewhere” and so I proceeded to navigate over to Netflix and then Prime and finally the Max app and I did a voice search in the Max app for just the word “Ghostbusters” and didn’t see any results. Suddenly, it exited out of the Max app back to the Apple TV menu and then I kid you not - I watched the cursor move by itself over to the YouTube app. It opens and then moves up to the YouTube search bar and I see the words “Afterlife” type out in front of me. Then it deleted Afterlife and typed Ghostbusters and after a moment it deleted away the word busters and just kept Ghost in the searchbar and then typed a bunch of dots after it - Ghost……………… like that. Needless to say, I was spooked and I exited out of the app and then it opened back into YouTube again and typed D E A T H. Now I’m really scared and I run up the steps and see my wife and son, he’s 7, watching tv and I ask her “Did you just type something into search on your phone - Ghostbusters and Afterlife and then Death?” She looked at me like i was crazy and said “No” and told her what happened and she said that it was weird.

Anyway months go by without any other incidents. I thought maybe it was possible my stepson was messing with me in the other room (he has a room in the basement) but now he is away at college and so this past weekend, it happened again.

I was downstairs on friday and this time I was in the YouTube app by my own choice. I did a voice search for something and instead of searching what I requested, it searched “BOO”. So that made the hair stand up on my skin and them it typed “J A C K”. Jack is my 7 year old. He was playing Fortnite in my stepson’s old room that I have since set up as an area for my son to play the PS5 since my stepson is away at college now. So i see my son’s name typed out in front of me and it scares me obviously. I immediately go into the room behind me where Jack is playing and i see him playing Fortnite in the middle of a match. He looks at me like what do I need and I say loh I’m just seeing what you are up to” but my heart is racing. I actually caught the J A C K being typed on video. I anticipated it after I saw BOO. I had pulled out my phone to record the screen in case it said something else and it had. Of course it just looks like someone typing it like if they had done it using their Iphone as a remote. The letters show up but the cursor didn’t move to each letter on the screen as if it was done from an external remote like an iphone.

Now the most rational explanation is someone has hacked my system and controlling it but the scariest thing is that it is behaving like it can hear and see me. Like it originally had heard my son ask about Ghostbusters and this time that it knew my son was downstairs with me.

So anyway, the next say, Saturday, when i woke up I went straight downstairs and pulled up YouTube myself and did a voice search and said “Good Morning”. I waited a minute or two and nothing came of it so i exited the app but then after a minute or two I brought it back up and it typed a response to me. It said “Morning” and then added my name after it. So now I’m really scared and i see it erase and it types back “It’s ok” so i closed the app. Turned off the tv and went back upstairs and it hasn’t happened again.

What the heck is going on? I did a search of my smart TV thinking maybe it has a camera built into it - it’s a TCL R646. It doesn’t have a camera but it has a microphone. Although this chat interaction is happening using the Apple TV on it - not built in Youtube app on tv but the app on the Apple TV.

I think the most likely explanation is someone is listening or can see me and has hacked the Apple TV but I don’t know how that they would he able to see or hear. I also thought about how if my system is hacked, they would see my searches i made and wouldn’t need to actually hear me in order to respond but it is strange.

I am writing hoping you all can give me advice on next steps. Who do I contact to investigate this?

I got the Saturday interaction on video as well. The Good Morning and my name and then it’s ok. All on video.

Sometimes it is like a button is pressed so it will scroll infinity. Also the talking into the mic got some crazy delay and fucks it up most of the time. I tried resetting it a few times and reconnecting and even charging but it seems that it doesnt go away.

I must say that it helps if you are pointing it towards the apple tv like IR but yeah. Im just 3 meters away from my tv.

Is there any fix or is my remote screwed?
