Current committed salary cap for 2025: $234.5m
Cap space (at estimated cap of $275m): $49.7m
First do the following:
Action | Cap savings | Explanation |
---|---|---|
Cut Sheldon Rankins | $9.6m | Easily the most obvious choice on the list. He barely played in 2024 and has some serious medical issues gong on |
Cut Alex Cappa | $8m | He was good in past years but time has bit him hard. He simply isn't playing at even backup level and isn't worth the contract spend at this time. |
Cut Sam Hubbard | $9.5m | This one hurts, but he's not playing to contract and is just not coming back to form after major injuries. Love ya, Sam, but the money is needed elsewhere |
Restructure Joe Burrow | $20m | Teams with huge QB contracts need to treat those contracts like piggy banks. Converting Joe's $25m salary into signing bonus will free up $20m |
The above moves will cost $6.2m in dead cap (which the Bengals hate), but they have shown themselves more willing to cut guys in these situations than in past years. The Burrow restructure spreads an extra $5m of hit to the next four seasons. Very doable.
New cap space figure: $96m
There are some players to retain or get on new deals:
Action | Cap cost | Explanation |
---|---|---|
Resign Tee Higgins | $28m | This offense is on a different level with Tee and Chase on the field. Tee wants to stay and might give a slight discount to the team, but $28m is reasonable. This is also his franchise tag number, if they go that route again. |
Extend Ja'Marr Chase | $0 | The action is a no-brainer, and the cap figure is his 5th year option value, which can remain for cap purposes and is already included in the cap figures above. |
Extend Trey Hendrickson | $10m | He's massively underpaid. The $10m figure is in new signing bonus with a 2 year extension on his current deal that expires after the 2025 season |
Resign Mike Gesicki | $6m | With Erick All out for the year, the team should end the TE revolving door. Gesicki wants to stay and won't break the bank. |
Resign Mike Hilton | $6m | He's slowing down in coverage but remains a plus runs defender and blitzer, as well as a leader for the DBs |
Resign minor free agents | $14m | This includes guys like Cody Ford, ADG, Ossai, Tanner Hudson. Feel free to take some of this money and locate to below. |
Rookie and reserve pool | $10m |
Total cost of above: $74m
Remaining cap: $22m
Doing the above leaves the following main holes:
As final moves
Action | Cap cost | Explanation |
---|---|---|
Sign a Guard | $8m | Guys like James Daniels, Teven Jenkins, Keven Zietler should all be available in this price range |
Sign a CB | $8m | There are some guys who are starter material that should come in this range |
Sign a pass rusher | $6m | This is second-third tier territory, but we really just need someone that can get 5 sacks and need to be accounted for when Trey is off the field. |
Draft DT Day 1-2 | -- | It's a deep draft on the D line, and someone starts for BJ Hill |
Draft OG/C Day 1-2 | -- | It isn't a great draft for G, but an upgrade to Volson seems obtainable. Karras can kick to LG if the draft looks better for C. |
The $22m allocated above can be moved around as you see fit. If you don't want to go after FA, any of this money can be used for signing bonuses for Tee and Ja'marr to assist future caps.
Remaining cap: $0 (all in, baby!)
The 2nd year tag for Tee is around $26.5 million, and he's being reported to be in market for $30 per year deal. How could the Bengals ever pass up on an opportunity to get a $30 mill per WR for $26.5, while also having leverage if extension isn't reached, to pursue a trade for him with nothing to lose. If anything you tag him, then extend him, which would only be a $26.5 hit to 2025 instead of reported $30. I just don't see why you wouldn't put an undervalued tag on him for 2025, with worst case trading him for a possible 1, if he's as sought after, and more now than last year by other teams as a #1....? It should be the 2nd, and only option besides extending, why would you ever let him, #1 FA just walk.?? To me I think Tee should even be fine playing on 2nd tag compared to last year. Even if he has to play on 2nd tag, be 2 year deal(24/25) worth $48 million guaranteed. Should help put mind at ease some, also knowing he missed 5 games in 2024, and his stock still only has risen. I don't see it being any different after next year, if worst case scenario would happened ....but that worst case should be playing on 2nd tag, instead of walking to sign deal elsewhere...right??? Idk seems like simple logic, am I crazy??
I’ve tried to think of some teams that had two of their best guys due money at the same time, at the same position, with both performing well (albeit one is clearly better than the other)
I think the uniqueness of the Chase/Higgins situation is a big part of the intrigue
There was a clip going around of Joe saying they’ll get the guys signed because the players want them. I really only see this happening if guys take pay cuts, especially with all other holes that need filling, but we haven’t seen that happening yet. I would love to see everyone back, but is it actually realistic?
Latest Freakonomics Episode 620: Why don’t running backs get paid anymore? Interesting insight into how the game has evolved and how teams look at value.
Is there any easy way to watch games from 2000-2024? I like to watch games on the treadmill and need to figure out how to get previous seasons.
I wanted to put together a mock draft to see what fans want at different times in the off-season and make a video on it. I will be doing a mock draft prior to free agency, post free agency, and after the combine. The player that is either most commented or most upvoted will be considered the pick. I will be going around every subreddit to see who they pick. Let me know what you guys believe your biggest team needs are as well. Also, there won’t be any trades for this mock draft.

Hello everybody, I'm hoping somebody on here can give me some information on how the wait list for season tickets works. I'm looking at potentially joining the wait list but I have a few questions.
How does it work in regards to picking where I want to sit? Ideally I want to sit between section 309-311 which I'm sure are popular requests.
If and when I'm contacted about purchasing season tickets, does the team essentially tell me what's available, and if I don't want those seats do I lose my spot and deposit? For example the team has 2 seats in the last row of the corner section, am I allowed to decline those and wait for a seat I'd be willing to accept?
For those that have season tickets, was it worth it, is there anything I should know before taking the leap, and what would you do differently if anything?
Thanks in advance, WhoDey, FTS
Anyone have any information on those tshirts from the superbowl for Bengals fans that had passed since their last appearance? My nephew was on one and was apparently worn by another fan who attended the game. Trying to see if there was a specific organization that would have information to help me track down a way to get either a copy or maybe even the shirt from the game itself
Yes, I know the front office is cheap... Tee's future is iffy at the moment... But for the love of God, there is no way that we don't extend Chase ffs...
To the people who point to last year, Old Mikey said that it probably wouldn't get done in 2024... Add the fact that he had a career year, Chase will get extended so chill out
Feel free to chat about anything you want.
Has anyone else had issues with the app?
I couldn't get videos to play. So, I cleared cache, cleared data, and even deleted the app and reinstalled it.
Now it won't even let me log in to my profile and still can't play videos.
I just realized today that of those 3 QBs that Palmer is the only one to make All Pro and a Pro Bowl. It's crazy that Burrow hasn't made All Pro.
The comments and interviews he's done this week are very concerning to me. People think that because Tee changed to Ja'Marrs agent it was a foregone conclusion that deal would get done. Duke's interview made me skeptical we'll get Tee or Trey's deals done. Everything Duke is saying now is exactly what was said when JB3 and many other good players walked for nothing. This shit is getting so old, we cannot miss the playoffs 3 years in a row in Joe's prime or we're going to be looking at another Carson Palmer situation very soon.
