Our pumpkin for this year
Since Hutch went down I’ve been thinking about how the 2021/22 Rams were in a similar position of Edge pass rush need during their Super Bowl winning season and how the Von Miller trade could show us what to expect for what a trade may require.
Rams traded their 2022 2nd & 3rd picks for the then 32yo Miller who at that time had racked up 8 all pro/pro bowl seasons, a Super Bowl MVP and some gaudy stats (over 100 sacks).
Trying to sprinkle in some new spins on the same conversations we’ve been having for weeks while also getting us away from JAMO talk.
What are some other historical trade comps you can think of?
Dude came into an abysmal situation, after being discarded like yesterday's trash by his former coach and team, then was widely regarded as a simple bridge QB to hold us over long enough to find a "real" QB. Dude buckled down and believed in himself, and slowly but surely became the surefire QB1 and is in the middle of an MVP caliber campaign, leading his Detroit Lions to what is shaping up to be a season to remember. He embodies the grit and determination this city is known for and is the cool, calm, and collected leader this team needs. My motherfucking QB!! GO LIONS!
FTP
Congrats to the Dodgers I guess
I
Just curious to see how people think we do against GB and games further out considering our overall season performance thus far and current injuries on both sides. Thoughts?
This is the Lions version of Barry bonds without a bat. If the Lions played with 10 players on offense without a QB (and the Titans didn't know that), they would have scored at least 37 points. Hear me out:
Final Score:
Lions (without QB): 37
Titans (with QB): 14
All these trade for EDGE posts and conversations I've had myself, I'm seriously conflicted.
Obviously, losing Hutch is massive for us, and he cannot be replaced by one man. So in all this talk, we're hearing the bringing in two average/slightly above average guys takes. Were hearing the sell the farm for Crosby/Garret/Hendrickson type takes.
We're clearly in year one of our SB window. What I'm struggling with is "what are we willing to give up to fill that void, especially in year one of our window?"
The biggest struggle for me is giving up draft picks. None of these trades happen without giving up picks.
A 4th round pick in Les Sneads hands, or Schoens hands, or Poles hands is nowhere near as valuable as it is in Brad Holmes' hands. BH has proven over and over again to be a scouting/drafting savant. He's murdered every draft so far as well as UDFA signings.
BH and MCDC have stated from day one that they're building this team to compete for a championship perennially, not selling the farm for one ring
MCDC has always preached his "next man up" philosophy. He's said "if you're on the roster, you're in uniform, you will get opportunities."
So I'm curious to hear where you guys are at on this? Year one, and frankly, the first time ever, that the expectation is SB. How willing are you to give up BH draft picks and how many for who? And are you willing to sacrifice sustained success for this one year push? Or do you see a way that this team can have multiple guys step up to fill that hole by committee, and even adding "below average/practice squad" guys from other rosters for little in return?
Considering BHs record of finding overlooked talent in the garbage pile, I'm more inclined to lean towards option B. I'm ok with giving up a 5th, 6th or 7th round pick for a nobody that BH and coach see potential in, but I'm definitely not at the "sell the farm" point
Defense attorney has good take on Jamo’s gun charge
So, we play the cheese curds (FTP) obviously. If the flu trend were to continue then that means we play them, they have their bye week, then they play Chicago. A loss to Chicago would obviously be good for the trend, and us, but we also don't want Chicago to win because they're in our division. So does the flu trend still count if they tie?
As a lifelong Lions fan who grew up in the Detroit area now living in Illinois, I feel great shame that my tax dollars will be paying for the Bears to have a new stadium. I hate it here.
Is there something I should know apart from the obvious?
By obvious I mean hating the packers, legends like megatron, Sanders, refs terrible history with the lions, the recent success at the hands of Sheila, DC and BH and the suffering you all have endured for a long time.
Appreciate any response as I want to know everything I can about this team, the franchise and its history.
One pride!!
Ben Johnson at it again
I know this rant will probably be downvoted. I don’t care tho I’m so sick of everyone trying to vilify this kid. I’m the first person to say “tuff shit, shoulda thought about that” about whatever but with alll his stuff since the first one I felt like they’re reaching and trying to make him out to be something he’s not. First time he bet on college basketball and they tried to make him out to be Pete Rose.
Now this with the “medication”…what? He took an adderall or something his doctor prescribed. Close your eyes and point and 99% chance you point at someone who’s been diagnosed ADD/ADHD especially in his generation. Should he have told the team doctor? Sure, obviously but I don’t necessarily think I need to update my work when I go the doctor. I know it’s not the same I’m just saying it’s not the dude was snorting lines of fentanyl.
Now with the “gun” incident…as far as I understand he was a passenger but besides that these kids make millions of dollars and live in Detroit. I mean they could live anywhere really… is it that weird to have a gun on you or someone with you to have one? How many of you carry a gun to protect the change in the cup holder of your 2008 Honda civic? Lol but seriously…they obviously didn’t have any drugs on them and weren’t doing anything malicious because they LET THEM GO! Without even confiscating the gun as far as we know. But for some reason now they want to spin it like he was riding around town banging on people.
Look, watch one of his post game interviews after he has a great game or great catch and tell me that kid is a bad person…he’s so excited and happy. Genuinely happy…I love it when he has a great game because I know he’s about to be geeked and it’s fun to watch. He’s somebody you just root for because he’s funny and seems kind. It’s not like he’s out here beating the shit out of his girl all the time coughTyreekcough or literally murdering people coughRayLewiscough lol I could go on but I digress. He’s young and grew up thinking mumble rappers were cool fine but he seems like a genuine sweet kid, he’s a beast on the field, loves the game and really seems to the love being in Detroit and being a Lion. All that to say what I already did…LEAVE JAMO ALONE.
So it surfaced today that
Zadarius Smith Didn’t show up to browns practice today (listed as illness)
the browns are willing to trade him for a good day 3 pick, though could opt to keep him
so why the fuck, is he not on a plane to Detroit already???

Here’s Thor again. I’ve been looking for a blonde wig for him that I think will actually stay on his head

2.5 hours and stretching my artistic abilities to the max lol
So many other coaches, well respected ones even, get up on the podium and make snide remarks or get mad at reporters for doing their job and make themselves look like douchebags. Dan's been asked his fair share of stupid questions (which is usually what sets other coaches off) but he always gives a respectful answer. I'm proud he's our coach.
