Defense has been improving so much over the season and hes a huge reason why. absolutely on his way to another pro bowl, leveling up the whole linebacker room around him. what a great signing.
If ownership is going to rebrand the time to do it is probably this offseason & no later.
Craig Hoffman reviews a callers rant about off-season moves. IDK if you guys heard the call but this is a great listen. Craig's level of pettiness in this video is hilarious
Post your comment of a player/coach/staff that started bad and ended bad
Welcome to Game Balls and Chris Pauls!!
Tim starts his tape review looking at Marshawn. OH BOY did we get a dude. It’s getting REALLY hard not to get Ashburn Syndrome. AP is an elite GM.
In these, I take 5 analyses of the game and award a +/- for each player who gets a mention. Then, I add up those numbers for each player to get 3+ players who earned a gameball for the week and then 3+ players whose play was such that they get a Chris Paul award for being such ass.
I am running with Louie Tee and John Keim’s reaction videos plus Mark Taylor's Studs/Duds at Hoghaven and Commander's Wire Studs/Duds plus the film review TimTalkinSports does on Tuesday nights on YouTube.
I’m open to adding to this, a couple things: PFF is behind a paywall for some things. Mark Bullock doesn’t do the whole game but analyzes plays. He’s awesome though, highly recommend. Hoffman + Paulsen would be 6th and I’m keeping them as a backup.
Looking at the 1981 season briefly: My goal for this week was “3+ TDs for Jayden please.” It was a 2TD instead of 3, so tsk tsk. BUST. /S. In all seriousness, if Terry keeps running a route, he gets it.
This week was a 33-31 victory against Detroit at home. The Lions went on to finish 8-8. It was 21-20 Lions at half. The difference in the game was the 6 TOs we generated. While 6 would be insane, just give me 2.
So without further ado, here's my Gameballs and Chris Pauls. Gameballs are players who scored at least 3 (3 more positives than negatives), while Chris Paul’s are players who scored at least a -3 (3 more negatives than positives). I then compare how that +/- measures up to the team, so while Coleman and Fowler each had a 3 this game, the Bronze went to Rodriguez with 5. No player qualified for a Chris Paul, the 2nd time in 3 games that happened.
Gameballs
Chinn: After AP was hired, I was convinced Curl was gone. NOT because he was bad or anything, just that he was going to have a number in mind and AP wasn’t going to grant it, seeing his production last year and thinking “why pay 15m APY when I can get the same for ~4M?”. This game he leapt off the tape early and often.
Daniels: It’s hard to describe to a non-fan how good he is. That’s it, that’s the blurb.
Rodriguez: Be ready. That mantra by DQ is something every coach at every level preaches. It’s hard to stay focused when you are a 4-5th string guy and “Be Ready” can sometimes fall on deaf ears. I think DQ has had a master stroke on creating a lockeroom where all 53 and the PS are locked in. The undermentioned thing he’s doing is rolling captains. 3 players, 1 from each phase, get chosen based on how they exemplified the culture last week. Running back Jeremy McNichols was named a Week 4 game captain. Thats a 3rd stringer, asked to play more due to injury and he was ready for the moment. So in his presser today, DQ was sure to Rodriguez a shoutout. Now he’s a PSer and I think his callups have expended, so I expect a move here to get him on the 53 as a reward in lieu of captain.
I have 2 tickets for Sundays game against Pittsburg for sale as I can no longer go. They’re in SRO443. I’ve got 2 of them for sale. Anyone interested?
Kay Adams was marveling at our defensive rankings on her show today, saying she thinks it’s underrated where we’re at considering where we started coming off an abysmal last season. Pretty insane, especially that pass defense ranking. Just wish they showed run defense, which is currently ranked 28th (27th last season I believe). If Lattimore does his thing here and they figure out some way to get a bit more stout up front against the run, I’m feeling awesome all around.
Does anyone know approximately when they make the decision on what day the game will be played (the 4th or 5th)?
I foolish bought tix without realizing the date wasn’t finalized. Trying to see if it’s worth holding off buying flights or just commit to going to Dallas early.
Thanks!
Went to buy tickets and got a sneaky suspicion about how they were trying to do it, look up the number and the first thing that comes up is a thread of people saying they got scammed!!!
This building gave us the legendary superstar players we know and love.
We have some outfits that look really similar to the Steelers outfits. I think we should try to wear them. We need to be able to play mind games on the Steelers. Russ won’t know who’s defense or offense… Chess not checkers!
I hope this isn’t lost in all the DB talk, but our DB are solid to high quality tacklers. I remember a few years ago it felt like every game DB missed tackles that went for long gains.
Feeling really optimistic, let’s just take care of business against the Steelers.
Just want to see where everyone else is as far as how we'll preform against a tough steelers D. 0 STAT game for Myles Garrett. 0 sacks for Burns and Dex. We've been "tested" three times, against the Bears, Giants, and Browns. Perhaps the ravens (I don't know, I wasn't able to watch that game at all) but we have seemed to fair well against top defenses. So am I wrong to not be overly concerned about the steelers defense anymore so than these other teams? I won't take anything from them. They are more than solid but from what we've seen we can and should be able to hold our own right or am I crazy?
I am raising a toast to our boy Benjamin St Juste. He’s been a lightning rod for this fan base, been called shit like St Trash and Benjamin St Ass, been blamed for our entire defense and the slow start. I don’t think I’ve seen a single post game win thread that didn’t single him out specifically.
That said, he answered the call and he held down a role he wasn’t built for but the coaching staff tasked him with. He’s gone up against some real killers, and yeah he’s been torched on occasion and made some bad plays to draw penalties at bad moments but he answered the call. He held down the CB1 position until reinforcements arrived, and now he can move into a role where he’s not asked to play hero ball every week. He’s earned and deserves our respect. I’d like to see some love from this fan base for BSJ.
Trying to figure out how you guys buy tickets. I’m trying to get 2 but all of them are 300+ that aren’t in nose bleed. They are almost never that high, any suggestions??
