Probably get downvoted for this but you know what? Don’t give a fuck. Kyler has been inconsistent yes, frustrating as hell? Definitely. But for goodness sakes it’s the final make or break year let’s at least go into this with some damn hope. Let me give you to scenarios, we go into the season positive things work out we see a decent jump happy happy. We go into the season negative same shit happens back to square one. I’d rather just be hopeful and if it goes the same just simply move on. But the negativity while understandable has GOT to stop. Let’s just have an overall community of positivity, we are building things are going in a positive direction lots of young talented players. Have a badass day ! Grab the day by the balls!
Despite flashes of brilliance from the former 1st overall selection Kyler Murray, the quarterbacks trajectory hasn't gone quite as planned. Meanwhile, Jayden Daniels, a 2nd overall quarterback, has thrived in a similar system under Kliff Kingsbury. It may not be a fair comparison, but it'll be a hard one to escape for the Cardinals quarterback who spent a majority of his professional career under Kingsbury.
Stat | Rookie Kyler | Year 3 Kyler* | Rookie Daniels |
---|---|---|---|
Passing Yards | 3,722 | 3,787 | 3,568 |
Comp % | 64.4% | 69.2% | 69% |
Passing TDs | 20 | 24 | 25 |
INTs | 12 | 10 | 9 |
Rushing | 544 (4) | 424 (5) | 891 (6) |
*Only played in 14 games
It's well known that the state of the Cardinals was not good for a rookie quarterback and that the team would be rebuilding around Murray rather than looking for an instant impact. That was exactly the results the Cardinals got with a 5-10-1 record.
The Cardinals went into the season tied for 31st in Super Bowl odds at +30,000, with an expected W/L record of 5 wins, which they pushed.
However, the Commanders were not much better off. Just one year out from bad ownership, the expectations were that this may take some time to get going. The 2024 Washington team similarly had +15,000 odds, tied for 26th, and a W/L expectation of 6.5.
Daniels is on another level, so there isn't much reason to compare Kyler to him directly beyond this point. However, this success may absolve Kliff Kingsbury any blame he may have taken for Murray's struggles. It is very possible Kingsbury has grown from his experience and is far better equipped to develop a young quarterback now, especially exclusively in the offensive coordinator role compared to a head coaching role.
It's also fair to say the Cardinals still have not put out a good roster in front of Murray to help him develop, and that his ACL tear only hindered the whole process.
However, at some point the Cardinals need to see the version of Kyler they hoped they were getting back in 2019. While the flashes have been there, there hasn't been a prolonged episode of greatness to prove he can compete with the elites and take this team on a deep playoff run.
The sub is great for Cardinals news but sometimes want to listen to some people just talk AZ Cards stuff (whether they are in the know or not)
Arizona Cardinals current roster prior to any FA signings is as follows. QB•Murray, Tune. RB•Connor, Benson, Carter, Dallas, Demecardo, Knight. OT•Johnson, Williams. OG•Jones, Curtis. C•Haynesworth. Gaines, Froholdt WR•Baccellia, Jackson, Palmer, Watkins, MHJ, Weaver, Wilson. TE•McBride, Seikovits, Higgins, Reiman
24 Players
OLB• Brown, Ojulari, Whitley, Thomas, Collins. ILB•Eifler, Jones, Pappoe, Wilson Sr. DE• Nichols, Jones, Stille, Goodlow, Robinson. DT•Mustipher. CB•Clark, Melton, Murphy-Bunting, Thomas V, Williams, Boye-Doe, Davis, Hall, Jones. Saftey•Thompson, Taylor-Demerson, Baker. K/P/LS•Gillikin.
29 Players bringing the total to 53 players. I only watched the rams vs cardinals matchup so I'll apply only that game to my knowledge.
Resign targets imo would be... •OLB Browning •K Prater •LS Brewer •RG Hernandez So basing those being "guaranteed" roster spots that's a grand total of 57 players to fill the depth more you would need •1 emergency/Tutor QB can carry 3-4 into the season •3-4 WRs for camp can carry 5-7 into the season •1-2 TE's for camp can carry 3-5 into the season •1-3 OT for camp and one or 2 for development/ depth •1-3 OG IN NEED •1 Center for Camp/depth could enter the season 9-10 starter/depth combination for OLine •2-3 OLB for camp/depth •1-2 ILB for camp/depth •1-2 DE for camp/depth •1-2 NT IN NEED OF STARTER IMO •1-2 CB for camp/Depth •2-4 Safteys for camp/depth •LS/K/P bringing competition to each spot At max is 33 additions putting the cardinals at 90 players on roster which is the preseason limit. As a cardinals fan how would you fill out those positions? What's a way you can see the cardinals using their cap FA Draft picks and UDFA's to fill this out.
Thank you all for voting and sorry it took so long to get the final grid out! It’s been a busy week lol
Don’t know that I disagree with this assessment. 2025 is going to define his future.
I see the fan base pretty divided. I’ve been the biggest Kyler hater myself not proud to say it but I will say I do after this season have a glimmer thin line of hope. That being said I do think this year is a dramatic improvement or get traded type of year. Curious to hear thoughts from both sides. Also wanted to note comparing him to other QBs in the league I don’t think he’s towards the bottom honestly, don’t think he’s a carry the team type of QB either, needs a lot of pieces and hella solid line to get crazy numbers looking back at the rookie year
I just got a signed MHJ jersey and I want to put it in one of those frames that have two pictures in it. If anyone has any awesome picture of Marv in an Arizona game please send them to me
Those dudes are seriously Melting down over there, the biggest group of man babies. How can grown men act like that?
Cardinals Fans are so chill!
It’s kind of hard to dislike the guy when stories like this come out. Would have been interesting to see him coach under Monti instead of DUI man.
With the Chiefs going to the big game everyone in this state is calling 3 peat. I hope not and now more than ever I want to not be a cardinal Fan I hope this pans out and FLY EAGLES FLY🦅🦅🦅
No team can beat them. Any offseason moves we make are pointless until Mahomes retires.
I was gonna make a joke to my Eagles fan friends about "go birds" applying to both teams and then remembered Kyler Murray and Jalen Hurts have the same birthday and all of the things in my title apply to both, which I though was a couple interesting coincidences.
What’s up bird gang! By question regards to the league. Will we ever have a period of let’s say 5–10 years where every year the Super Bowl is 2 totally different teams? I think that would be the full glory of NFL if we could see a different game on both sides AFC and NFC every year. Curious to thoughts maybe it’s crazy to ask that maybe not.
With the Chiefs hate at an all time high, I just want to say I'm still thankful they saved me from having to watch the 49ers win a Superbowl TWICE! You'll never see me go against them unless they're playing the Cardinals.
EDIT: Also would be great to see D Hop and Hollywood get their rings.
Instead of choking in important games, he just chokes in VERY important games. And he’s taller.
