how positive are y’all about this coming game 1-10 ? i just want to know where everyone’s heads at, doesn’t matter if it’s 50/50 , im curious… i don’t wanna expose who i am, but i’d love to know !!
What is more important? Winning remaining games or being the healthiest we can be going into the playoffs?
If you ask me, i’d say that Mills needs some reps…
Eye test obviously shows CJ is working with what he’s got. There’s a lot of adversity right now (play calling, offensive line, drops) but I know he’s doing well. That insane 3rd and 3 conversion against the dolphins while he was getting tackled is not an anomaly, and surely there’s something other than EPA to record this stuff.
Does anyone have any stats to show he’s playing well with what he’s got?
Nick pulled off the best off season signings with Hunter, Mixon and Diggs, plus the draft…
He finished the game injured. He’s a beast and worth every penny we paid him. 💪🏼🤘🏼
I was rewatching some old texans highlights mid 2010s, and I can't help but see alot of similarities. Pretty much the 2015-2016 had a good defense just like 2024(even tho 2024 defense is far better) but they had a horrendous offense that was incapable of putting up points. Only difference is 2016 we had osweiler while in 2024 we have a far better option in stroud.
Because i'm tired of reading it.
We can beat the Chiefs with or WITHOUT Mahomes.
I keep seeing posts like:
- "We can beat the Chiefs if Mahomes is out!"
- "Mahomes might not play, we could get lucky!"
I know they get the refs on their side every game but our defense gives us a chance every weekend.
A Mahomes-less Kansas City and probably a very beat up Ravens team after they battle it out vs the Steelers. Will finish third in the AFC.
Seriously, how tf does he do shit like this? IDGAF what anyone says, I KNOW he’s elite.
###THE TEXANS ARE 2024 AFC SOUTH CHAMPIONS!!
Week 15 was a resounding success. The Texans took care of the Dolphins at home, and then watched Jonathan Taylor and the Colts drop the division title to them from right outside the endzone. With the AFC South crown officially in hand, the Texans have secured a spot in the playoffs with at least one guaranteed home game.
The Steelers also came up with a loss to Philadelphia, making room for some possible seeding improvement. On the flip side, the Chiefs, Bills, and Ravens all won. With the Chiefs victory, the Texans are officially out of contention for the 1 Seed. The 2 Seed also remains unlikely with the Bills win, but still possible.
###Here's where we stand as far as AFC Competition goes right now:
Out of Reach: Chiefs
Seeding Competitors: Bills, Steelers, Ravens
Wildcard Contenders (Irrelevant to Texans playoff seeding): Colts, Chargers, Broncos, Dolphins, Bengals
Eliminated: Browns, Jags, Jets, Titans, Patriots, Raiders
Now that we have locked up a spot in the playoffs, the things to monitor are:
As of right now, the Texans could be the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th Seed. Their first round playoff opponent currently could be any team from the Seeding Competitors or Wildcard Contenders listed above, with the exception of Buffalo (since they have locked up the AFC East, they will for sure be a 1-4 seed).
So let's look ahead a little bit.
###How do we potentially lock up the 2nd or 3rd Seed?
OR
#How Texans get the 3 Seed:
OR
OR
As you can see, the 2 Seed is a long shot. But the 3 Seed? Honestly pretty attainable.
Additionally, there’s some utility in wondering when we could potentially be locked into the 4 Seed, as it would give the team some opportunity/motivation to rest some starters.
###The earliest the Texans could get locked into the 4th Seed is with the following:
If all of those happened, the Texans would know right around the time they start their Christmas Day game against the Ravens that they are locked into the 4th Seed, which would give significant motivation to rest starters on a very short week and with 2 weeks to go until playoffs.
As a reminder, the ESPN Playoff Machine is live! You can use this to play around with all sorts of scenarios and see what the playoff matchups and seeds can look like.
The Texans are currently guaranteed at least the 4th Seed, and could end this week slotted into the 3 Seed.
We will have to see if Mahomes' ankle injury is something that keeps him out this week - because if it does this game becomes a lot more takeable. Regardless, this is THE top AFC Contender and it's going to be a big test for this team. Coming out with a victory would be extremely valuable for this team building up some December momentum to go into the playoffs. That said, with this game being on a short week and then playing Baltimore just 4 days later? Health has to be a priority for our players - coming out of this stretch as unscathed as possible is going to be a big factor in how successful this team can be in the playoffs.
Both of these teams are competing for the AFC North crown, and Pittsburgh remains on top by a game for now (and the tiebreaker). If the Texans win this week and the Steelers lose to the Ravens, then all 3 teams will have a a 10-5 record. Due to a better record in conference games, this would put the Texans in the 3rd Seed.
The Bills have to lose at least 2 out of their last 3 games for the Texans to have a chance at the 2 Seed. Anything goes in division games, so root for that to manifest into a Patriots upset over Buffalo to put the Texans potentially just one game out from the 2 Seed.
A Titans win would realistically kick the Colts out of the playoff race. That said, we would need to Chargers to beat the Broncos to officially seal the deal.
No strongly desired winner here (aside from a Chargers win being able to put the finishing touch on a Colts elimination), but it's 2 potential playoff opponents that are of interest to keep an eye on.
Bengals are still a potential wildcard team, and could be officially eliminated as a possible opponent this week.
Dolphins are still a potential wildcard team, and could be officially eliminated as a possible opponent this week.
Legion of Boom!?
Texans gotta be smart about how they approach the next couple of games. Playoff seeding is important but getting through this rough stretch without losing key players is more important now after clinching a playoff spot
JJ watt hyping players and fans up!
Talk about getting your flowers and recognition with a comparison to all time greats like that from a guy who might know a thing or two. Thoughts?
Can’t argue with that boys.
Hello friends! I live in Nashville and LOVE my Texans. Is anyone else here attending the game in January? Any local spots any fans will be going to/tailgating at? I’d love to meet more fans!
Without going back to watch every game, I'm wondering how we can be:
#1 in pass completion percentage (57.7%)
#2 in Yds/Att (6.5)
#6 in Total Yds Allowed (3064)
#2 in INTs (19)
#2 in Sacks (45)
#32 in TDs Allowed (27)
How has a pass defense as good as ours allowed the most TDs? Make it make sense.
Watched some O-Line film since I wanted a list of some of the things our O-line can't handle. Amongst them was this blitz look with both linebackers lining the A-gap. Miami used this multiple times and it worked each time in the exact same way.
First clip is 1st quarter:

Second clip is 4th quarter. Notice how we've made zero adjustments?
https://reddit.com/link/1hg4btr/video/yzr1mqmzkc7e1/player
You'll notice both times Patterson passes the strong side linebacker to Ogunbowale, and instead elects to block... nobody. In the first clip this would've been okay if we could pick up stunts, but we still can't. In the second clip, this decision causes there to be a free rusher on the edge that Dare would have been able to pick up if Patterson blocked someone. Either way, we didn't pick up the interior stunt so there'd be pressure regardless
Is this Strausser's fault or Patterson's?
- I don't know, I don't pretend to be an offensive line coach. That said, it's hard to tell what is going on that would cause Patterson to play this way. In both instances, the left A-gap and far left edge rushers drop out, leaving ONE rusher being the inside edge to be blocked by TWO linemen who aren't Patt. The only justification I could think of to keep Patt from helping on the right is to protect the possible delayed rush by the left A-gap linebacker. My thought is vs an all-out look, you ignore that concern and slide as soon as someone drops, especially since the defense would have a free man anyways if they didn't delay since they're in cover zero.
- My main frustration I guess is the lack of adjustments. We got new people in new positions, so mistakes are inevitable. The same inexplicable mistake is not so understandable.
