Is John Big Dawg Thompson still around? Haven’t heard about him in years.
Will Deshaun be on the Browns in 2027?
I root for Deshaun and hope he’ll be the franchise QB the Browns need. However, he has not lived up to his contract. A huge part is availability and he hasn’t been there. I can see issues when they try to resign him because he’ll want another fully guaranteed contract and no way the Browns do that unless he wins two Super Bowls between now and then. Knowing how things work in Cleveland, I believe he won’t resign and they’ll be left searching for their next franchise QB. Thoughts?
The scheduled post is failing to upload for some reason, so here you guys go.
Mocks outside this thread will be removed.
We’ll be at the NFL Draft interviewing people on the street asking who they think is the best angler on their favorite team, and giving away prizes from Boatsetter if it matches the “Survey says” answer / fan pick... or if they just have a great answer. Upvote or comment any player name, and the player with the most upvotes in 3 days will be the fan pick.
The OTA CBS/FOX/NBC broadcasts are mostly fine, but my version of enhanced coverage would be:
- No commercials or advertisements
- The ability to stream a beautiful picture on any device. (Apple TV does this for MLS)
- The ability to choose the radio broadcast as the audio option (Apple TV does this for MLS)
- A dedicated panel of Browns analysts and sideline reporters
- The panel would handle one hour of pregame, halftime, one hour of postgame
- The panel would bring analysis during the gaps that would normally be commercials
- Analysis could be sideline reporting, game breakdown, or a look around the league
I would be willing to pay $10 for this for games that I care about. For a game I really care about, I might be willing to pay $20 for this, or more.
I'm not arguing that this can or will happen, because we know how the NFL has structured its TV deals, but hypothetically, is this a TV product that you would want?
The NFL is a bit weird because on one hand they "want fans in the stands" when they actively participate in a process that charges people a lot for parking, food, merch, tickets, and ticket fees. They know you have money and they want it.
But when it comes to the TV product, there's this assumption that nobody could ever or would ever spend a dime and therefore we need to blast fans with an endless parade of advertisements.
Looks great
I'll first of all get to why Defensive Line likely isn't a position we'll be targeting in the draft and it comes down to three reasons
A general rule of thumb is that when a player is guaranteed more than $500k, they are likely to make the roster. The lowest amount of guaranteed money on the DL outside of Ika and McGuire is $1 million for Mo Hurst so there's no one we can cut cheap.
The Browns in general don't love giving up on draft picks and every player is usually guaranteed to be here for at least two season. McGuire played a little bit and was OK, Ika was bad but he was a pick that Schwartz himself loved and Ika in general needed a complete retooling from job on the DL to his body.
With Ika and McGuire being guaranteed roster spots, they would likely be the number 4s on the depth chart in their group which means playing at least a quarter of the snaps every week which neither player is ready to do with how important the DL is for Schwartz. We're unlikely to pick DL at 54 and DL in general take time to develop, neither our 4th players on the depth chart or our draft picks would be able to fullfil the role they would need to if.
I get that we need to get younger on the DL but neither group is ready for another draft pick hence I think we're very unlikely to draft a defensive linemen with a shot at the roster.
I think the following positions are definite draft targets:
Bryant is gone and Akins didn't even have 200 yards last season on top of being a bad blocker, this is still a Stefanski scheme and we'll need a good third TE. Akins also isn't guaranteed to make the roster in my opinion, he's cheap to cut and if we can find a good blocking TE after roster cut downs, I see us replacing him quickly.
I think we're more likely to pick OT than OG here because Dunn and Wypler are guaranteed to make the roster and Hudson has shown some promise and would be more suited to playing Guard than Tackle.
I think we're likely to carry only 5 LBs this year, we carried 26 Defensive players last year and I don't see us doing that again with the amount of locks we have on Offense. We also only have 3 locks currently in the LB room in JOK, Hicks and Bush but there's a clear lack of depth there, Linebacker is definitely a need in this draft.
I don't think Newsome is even guaranteed a roster spot currently and I definitely don't see us keeping him to play slot on his 5th year option (EDIT: I see him being traded this year or next year). Our depth here is Mitchell who can't play outside, Hardee and Brown who are pure ST players and Hailassie who barely played 100 snaps last year. Both for the present and long term planning, Cornerback is a need.
Possible Draft Target Positions
I only put these two positions under possible because I think we'll only be drafting one if we stay at 5 draft picks.
Looking at the Running Backs room, Chubb and Ford are locks to make the roster and behind that there are two players with a good shot to make the roster. Strong has oustanding special teams abilities and Foreman offers something we miss when Chubb is out.
In the Wide Receivers room, Cooper, Tillman, Jeudy, Moore and Hines are all locks to make the roster. Bell is a pick Stefanski loved so he still has a shot but is definitely a cut candidate. I grouped Hines in with the Receivers because he'll mostly be here for his return ability and we usually group those players in with the WRs.
There is definitely a possibility we draft both if we get an extra draft pick because I wouldn't be suprised to either see Chubb start on the PUP/IR or that we cut Foreman or Strong but there's no true need to draft an RB, the same goes for WR but with the quality of this WR draft, it's very likely we do draft one.
Apologies for the repost but I said that Newsome's roster spot isn't guaranteed but forgot to clarify that I obviously meant that because he has a chance of being traded.
Since it's a slower time of the year, and no 1st round pick in the draft to argue over I figured we can share some of our finest hours. Also added the NSFW tag, because knowing some of you it's probably going to be needed. Go Browns!
Talk about what's on your mind
Normal Rules still apply.
I come with peace Dawg Pound.
Here's a Quick Compliment: Ive enjoyed your run game this past year in the games i watched.
But Seriously!
How's Charger Legend Dustin Hopkins ! The fan base (yes all "4" of us) still got alot of love for DHop! We had kicking problems for a long long time and Dhop was a blessing once he landed in LA.
A few weeks ago, I posted on the Detroit Reddit about the Browns potential new stadium in Brook Park. I can say that just about everyone on that forum was adamant that we don’t leave Downtown Cleveland, based on what happened with the Silverdome in Pontiac. When the dome was built in 76, the expectations were that it would save Pontiac. If you’ve been to Pontiac, you know it’s a very run down city north of Detroit. The folks up there kept saying how the dome in Pontiac did not improve that city itself and this could be a repeat situation here in Cleveland. How can we avoid this situation, should the Browns build a dome in Brook Park?
The current stadium has a lot of issues regarding accessibility for the physically handicapped, especially wheelchair-bound fans. Handicap parking is very difficult to get to and they have limits on the number of spaces. It's very difficult for anyone to drop off friends and family with wheelchairs at the stadium. There aren't enough escalators and ramps for fans to get around the stadium conveniently. Some of these things could be fixed with a renovation, but many of them not. And even when those issues are resolved the outdoor stadium causes many elderly fans to age-out of going. Keep in mind that seniors make up a large number of PSL and season-ticket holders because they have more disposable income.
It would be nice to be able to park right by a stadium and wheel my father-in-law right to his seat within a reasonable amount of time. Last year at the season opener We got to the stadium about 40 minutes before kickoff. With the time it took to make our way to the corner where Great Lakes Science is, wait for a concierge, leave the stadium to find a parking spot (which I couldn't find until I parked in a garage on Superior, and walk back down to the stadium I had missed most of the first quarter. When the game was over I had to walk back up to the garage, get the car, wait 1 hour to get out of the garage, make my way down to the stadium, and help my father-in-law back into the car. That is just ridiculous.
Not really a Browns-specific question, but since we are going through it again, I wonder how one building is good enough for hundreds of years (or so) while another building doesn’t last for half of that? The game hasn’t changed that much since 95, why must the stadiums?
