Why does Optus only allow direct debit?

I know I'm a little bit late with this one, since they changed it a few years back. But I have been wondering what exactly the point of changing the methods of payment for bills from having the option to use BPAY, cash, or direct debit, to solely direct debit?

I hate direct debit, I like to be able to pay money towards future bills at my leisure, not just have $140 get pulled out of my account. Especially as I get paid fortnightly, and my due date often falls just before I get paid, so my account doesn't have enough funds, so I risk an overdue fee.

I heard somewhere it was due to people not paying their bills on time or in full, but surely people can still just not pay their bills this way?

Does anyone know the actual reason?

Termite or something else?

This guy was around my garden.

I moved in 3 months ago and got pest inspection done then, no sign of past or current termites in the house…

Should I be worried?

It ain’t that bad

I like my fancy pants craft brew and even a regular ol’ mass produced one. Seems to be the standard in Ozlandia to shit on the ol’ Fosters but really, it ain’t that bad. Occasionally it hits the spot.

Self managing my aged care package - any experiences?

My MIL has an aged care package, which she ‘self manages’. This means she does all the leg work finding providers, booking appointments and uploading invoices, and she has next to nothing to do with the package providers. From what I can gather they just transfer the funds to pay the invoices. Yet she’s still required to pay them 15% of her package.

Is there anyway that these packages can be set up to truly be self managed similar to the NDIS? So she’d cut out the package provider, and submit invoices straight to aged care or through myGov or similar?

Alternatively, if somebody has to manage it, could she nominate my husband to manage (obviously without charge) so that extra money can be utilised for her supports?

Cant find Master / Slave Powerboard

I have recently been looking for a master slave powerboard (turns off "slave" plugs when the master plug stops drawing power) and i havent been able to find one anywhere, i can only find either old listings from 2019 that are out of stock, or European plugs that dont work in australia

im at the point where im almost considering just buying a european one and getting some socket converters

if anyone knows where i can get one of these i would really appreciate it :)
