So we’re not allowed plastic straws but we’re still taking thousands of trees worth of paper, wrapping them in plastic and littering it over every neighbourhood? Who still uses these things???

PSA - The Fifth Element Sunday, 5th May on SBS.

Starts 6.25pm on SBS Viceland HD. For some of you, this may mean you'll have to plug a digital TV antenna into the back of your TV. I am curious, anyone inside know who is a fan of this movie at SBS, it's about time we had a back story.

Served Papers - pay it or lawyer up?

Hey I’m thinking of engaging a lawyer on Monday for legal advice however how can I convince my friend to go to court to fight for themselves? They don’t speak / read good English and are very stressed / scared.

My friend’s car was involved in an accident (they weren’t driving) but their car is at fault. They came out and took the responsibility as the person driving was a foreigner and it was my friends car (said foreigner friend left the country that week lol) and no English.

Friend thought they had insurance but turns out it lapsed and they didn’t know they weren’t insured.

They aren’t looking to avoid paying on behalf of their friend and they want to take responsibility as it was their car but I think other party is being unreasonable. He was served papers right before the weekend to make my friend stress and gave 21 days to pay or go to court. Friend doesn’t understand anything on papers. Papers are also ineligible to read (missing chunks and black spots / lines covering info).

My friend wanted to pay a lump sum and pay the rest in installments as they can’t afford $30k+ at once. I think they should fight it - I will pay the lawyer as I owe my mate a big favour. (Took me in during Covid)

Some deets why I think it’s unfair:

Other party rented car before their car went in to get fixed (a week before) car was a luxury car for 3 weeks for $6,500. this was not discussed or communicated. Car only took 4 days to fix.

Other party said it would be $10k to fix but has served papers saying it cost them $23k. $10k is labour ?

Other party didn’t provide any quotes to choose from and just went and fixed it themselves without any communication. They’ve also fixed other things not related to the damages. For example damages were on right side and they’ve fixed the left side some things on the back and added some custom fit products and got a detail etc

I feel my friend is being wronged and can’t stand up for themselves. They want to do the right thing despite being asleep in the back seat when everything happened but these people are taking him for a ride.

My question is: is it worth lawyering up and going to court or should put the money I was going to use to the lawyer to help them pay it?

[no-politics] What's happening this weekend? 04/May/2024

Now we're done with the Friday venting, what's good in life? Got a new job? Have a date? Going out to a socially distanced restaurant? Climbing, sailing, riding or just working up a hard-earned thirst?

Turn down sound bar

We have our TV connected to a sound bar, and the bass is so loud I can hear it thumping through my closed bedroom door. Do you know how to turn it down? Im ready to throttle my husband over the noise.

What's going on with Aldi Mobile?

I've used Aldi for 10 years Tried to call Denmark tonight and get the message "there are insufflate funds to make this call please recharge to make this call."

I'm on the $25 plan Denmark is included. Also when I log in my 760meg rollover data has disappeared.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Looking at changing NBN providers. Have FTTP if it matter looking at 250Mb plans if it matters.

Aussie broadband is on the list, any others who i should look at, or even avoid, Perhaps its just something i should be aware of with a provider

I need to get this off my chest. Coming forward about sexual harassment ruined my life.

In 2022 I came forward that myself and others within a sport clubs had experienced sexual harassment, bullying, discrimination amongst other things that were happening within the club including underage drinking.

All of this was knowingly facilitated by a person within the club who is also employed by the state governing body.

This person that is employed by the state governing body had me handle and investigate the sexual harassment complaints against the 2 other committee members who I did consider close friends at the time.

I thought all of this was being handled above board till a year later I started to get therapy because I was really struggling to deal with things I was exposed to and dealt with within the club.

In 2022 I was diagnosed with ASD and a week later the club used my mental health against me. They stripped me of coaching and kept forcing me to play despite the fact I was suffering from a major injury I suffered in the 12 months before this that largely contributed to the decline of my mental health.

When I came forward the club found out about me speaking to the CEO and filed a complaint against me which lead to me getting banned for 24 months.

I know realise the governing body completely mishandled everything when I came forward. It wasn't til 4 months later after I came forward they finalised the sexual harassment investigation against the employee and despite them ruling she acted inappropriately nothing came of it.

Two weeks later after this the CEO realised that this employee who was responsible for the event that resulted in me breaking my neck in 2021 and causing the steep decline in my mental health did she realise this employee had done nothing to help me despite my desperate attempt to come forward.

I since then have been trying to move forward with my life I moved cities but this entire ordeal never sat right with me I've been trying to figure out what the actual fuck happened and how me coming forward with sexual harassment amongst other things resulted in only me being suspended.

because this injury still gives me troubles to this day and because the sport I play is my hyper focus I can't move past this.

I wake up thinking about ending my life because now the sport body is protecting itself.

I've lost all my friends, my career path, I dropped out of uni. I'm trapped in this night mare trying to move on.

The worst part is thanks to my family who have supported me I have it pretty good but I just can't escape this nightmare.

sport meant so much to me, i use to love exercising it helped with my ADHD and wind me down and let me sleep at night.

now most nights I just lie awake reliving this shit over and over and just want it to stop.

I get therapy but its really not doing anything. I have a support dog that helps me with my PTSD and ASD anxiety but i just feel its not enough because I struggle to move on.

on top of this I had to engage with legal advise to help file my insurance claim because the governing body wouldn't even provide me with the incident report from the accident. They've never even asked me to do one, so I don't even know if it exists.

this is looking like it will take 1 - 2 years to settle and it just contributes to this entire downward spiral because I have to think about it.

I just want to move on but I'm realising this injury is probably going to continue to effect me the rest of my life.

I don't know what to do

Apple Watch for Kids

Hi,

I’ve purchased an Apple Watch for my 12 yo. I’ve currently set it up via family sharing with a Truphone $99 per year plan. But it’s never got any coverage. I’m wondering if anyone knows what network it uses? I’m rural and I’m assuming it’s Vodafone and it’s very hit and miss here.

Can anyone recommend a cheap eSIM provider that runs on Telstra or Optus network as I want him to have his own independent number.

Has anyone used Skills Certified Australia before?

Has anyone used Skills Certified Australia to gain official acknowledgement of training and skills obtained without going to Tafe or through an apprenticeship, specifically in the trades sector? How was your experience?
