STOLEN: Avanti Montari MS bike. Taken from Clayton this morning

XXL bike taken (with helmet in picture) from my home in Clayton this morning. CCTV pending from the body corp. This bike was currently my only way of getting around owing to some health issues so immensely important to try and get it back. Please keep an eye out!

Looking for advice for career/study

Currently working in insurance with 70k salary however looking to grow either in the same industry or changing careers and wanting to get a qualification.

Im currently in early 20s and have no formal post high school qualifications due to circumstances and I’m looking for any suggestions or input from people who may have had similar circumstance or more experience in general.

Option 1 Initially I was studying at the university of Melbourne wanting to major in economics. I can go back to studying undergraduate however it would mean having to leave my current full time work for 2-3 years as classes are done in class. End result would be I get a bachelors in art and major in economics. Essentially I’ll have the prestige and reputation of being a unimelb graduate. Also the networking opportunities from my cohort would potentially be of a higher quality. However, i feel like I’ll be working from the bottom up again 3 year later when during that time I could have gained more experience through working full time and growing my insurance career.

Option 2 With my work experience, I got accepted for a grad cert for business administration with guaranteed entry to master of business administration at Swinburne online. Option 2 I can skip my undergraduate degree and build my qualification directly to a masters degree however it would be from a less prestige university. I’m not sure if an MBA would benefit me in the future as well especially as I do think the benefit of MBA is through the quality of the networking as well as the material studied. Does anyone have experience where an MBA from a less prestige uni has benefited them?

Option 3 Similar to Option 2, without an undergraduate degree I do think it’ll be hard to get into a more prestige uni so I was planning to try and get graduate certificate from Swinburne and completing masters in Deakin. This is if an mba is even beneficial and if the prestige of the uni does in fact matter.

Through these options, is it better to stay at my full time job and study for an mba outside of work hours?

Or will it benefit me in the long run to sacrifice 3 years of working to study at unimelb for a bachelors.

Does mba even benefit in the insurance industry or what kind of roles could I do afterwards? Will mba allow me to switch careers out of insurance and give me an advantage? Or will mba be waste of my time and money and a bachelors from unimelb is more worthwhile.

Appreciate your time to read this. Thanks in advance for any advice or input.

Melbourne trains are so stuffed

At Burnley on a Ringwood-bound train. Stopped because of trespasser. After 15 mins, the next Ringwood-bound train pulls up.

No announcement as to which will go first. Passengers randomly changing back and forwards.

Finally, still without announcement, the later-arrived train leaves first.

So infuriating.

Where to Properly Dispose of Light Bulbs in Melbourne?

Hey everyone,

I'm looking for some advice on the proper disposal of light bulbs in Melbourne. I used to drop them off at Officeworks, but it seems they no longer have a bin for that purpose. Does anyone know of any other places in Melbourne where I can safely dispose of light bulbs, especially CFLs and fluorescent tubes? I want to make sure I'm disposing of them in an environmentally responsible way. Thanks in advance for your help!

Anyone know any good free (or cheap) campsites that are within a 4 hour drive of Melbourne?

I don’t have a four wheel drive and I just use a small tent. I like photography and want to go take photos of scenic places.

Thanks in advance.

Is Victoria Police of a revenue raising campaign now?

Early this afternoon, I was driving my club permit car in my suburb to the post office in Eastern Melbourne. It was all on periphery road and the traffic was light. Upon reaching a familiar junction where I turn left to the row of shops where the post office is, I slowed down to a trickle and check the usual spots to make sure it was safe to turn. So I turned and a police officer suddenly jumped out and signalled me to stop. I was really curious as to why.

Firstly, he made me took a breathalyser test, which tested negative. Then he check the status of my club permit and found everything to be ok. I thought that is the end of it. Then he told me I failed to stop at the Stop sign and that is an infringement. I told him that I slowed down, check to look to pedestrian and cars which there were none and drove out safely. He told me regardless that I still fail to stop completely. I was too shocked to process and reason with him at this point. He told me to expect a letter of infringement to be sent to my address.

I kept thinking about what I did wrong. Unless there’s traffic or people walking, no one stops the car completely in a practical sense. And it wasn’t even a main road or junction. And the road I was on is empty. It just ruined my day and my respect for Victoria Police for not even applying common sense in this case.

VCE Advice

I'm a year 11 student, and I'm heavily considering dropping out. High school is taking a considerable toll on my mental health, I have depression and I'm unable to properly do work. I'm most likely going to fail at my current rate. Yes, I currently have professional help from a psychiatrist.

I've already looked into the potential of a 3 year VCE, and that really isn't the direction I want to go.

I mainly wanted advice on what my options were assuming I do drop out//exit VCE and if/how I could go forth pursuing university, either in Australia or in Europe.

Sorry if this is the wrong sub-reddit for this.

can anyone fill in why anyone would be hostile towards them?

REA hitting me with a rent increase

Recently had a lease renewal in March, where the rent got bumped up. Agreed to the rental increase, signed the lease and I'm in where I'm at for another year.

Recently, my REA just sent me another rental increase letter, along with wanting to get a new lease signed with the new amount for that year.

I think the REA is trying to squeeze me out of more, realizing they could probably get more out, but not neccessarily realising it till after I signed the new lease.

I tried giving the Tenants Union a call, but got bounced off the call queue about 5 times in so many days due to the same rigamarole about having a high queue time.

Are they allowed to double up on the rental increase after the new lease is signed, as in, is that considered the one rental increase per year, or is my REA taking the piss?

How can we improve PTV?

On the Sunbury, stuck again due to technical issues. How can we improve this our beloved train service?

My option is whenever there is a technical fault that runs longer than 15 minutes (or 45, let's be generous) - affected passengers get one day of free service.

The days of free service add on the worse the technical fault. Maybe this will prompt the train overloads to take care of the service.

What are your thoughts?

Calling the police for not having a miki?

Saw an incident at camberwell about 20 minutes ago where a young bloke wasn't allowed to pass the gates because he didn't have a miki, something about only having 50 cents.

The station staff he was arguing with, an older bloke, started calling the police after he walked off?

Is this what Australian society has devolved into? Trying to get people arrested or fined for being poor?

I guess it's not surprising what with the whole boycotts against woolies and Coles but really? Even for public transport?

Makes me wonder if it's not a one off incident for him but even so

Anyone else seen anything like this before?

Long term furnished rentals

I’m being relocated for a temporary position within my company and am looking for a long term furnished place to stay for roughly 6 months. I’ve had a look online, AirBnB you have to pay the full amount upfront. Hitels seem to be the best but I’m just wondering if anyone knows any potential places that do such a thing I’m looking around maribyrnong to about Caroline springs

Thank you for your asisstance in advance
