Interesting looking rainfall pattern from the BOM's radar

I haven't previously seen the radar with a cloud pattern like this. (Screenshot taken from the Bureau of Meterology website at 1:15am, 03/12/2024)

Black Friday Sales 2024 - No big deal??

Do you guys also think or is it just me that realised that this years BF sale wasn’t that good. I mean there were some good deals but it wasn’t like last year! I mean it wasn’t even that busy in the malls or shopping centres. I was happy with it being less busy but the deals were not that great to be honest. What do you guys reckon?

I’m looking for the best flavour infused coffee beans I can purchase online - sweet chocolate recommendations.

I’m looking for beans that ACTUALLY taste like chocolate minus the calories, not just “marketing / notes of claims”. I want a delicious creamy cup of coffee that is sweet rich but “not added sugars, keto friendly”. E.g mocha without the mocha powder.

I saw the coffee connection has flavours but is it legit? Has anyone tried?

Where to find a training room/classroom to hire?

Hey guys

I’m looking to hire a classroom with a whiteboard. There’s a couple of websites I found to hire spaces but all of them have a very limited range of rooms that meet the typical classroom style.

Is there a Facebook group or somewhere else I could look to book a class room? Where can I go?

Appreciate the help guys.

What’s the feeling these days on using apps to make friends around town?

It’s not the only thing I’ve got going, but how’re we feeling about using something like Tinder or Bumble to meet people for platonic relationships. It’s a bit difficult at 34(m) to find folk but apps where what people I used to know suggested.

Question about pools

Hi all, I’m wondering if the Prahran and/or Harold Holt outdoor pools open in the summer time for leisure swimming (specifically: not laps). I’m moving the area and would like to be able to bob around in the water on hot days. Cheers.

Drivers of Melbourne - it is the law to give bike riders 1m of space up to 60km/h. This also means you can’t honk at riders because you want to speed past a tram before the next tram stop.

The same drivers that probably campaign their local councils to not install bike lanes are the same drivers that don’t have the patience to drive behind a tram. Just a reminder it is the law - you need to give bike riders 1m of space on roads at all times. This goes up to 1.5m of space on roads that are over 60km/h.

Screeching past a bike rider and honking them to try and speed past a tram won't get you to your destination faster and likely kill someone.. (as made apparent by catching up to you at the red light)

Landlord took bond money, filled out an RBTA form but never actually lodged

We just ended a lease, and as per advice, went right to the RBTA to get our bond back, and as it turned out, there was no record of a bond in our name on their database!

We contacted the landlord and explained that it appears he never lodged our bond, and he immediately said he'll send us the money from his trust account which we paid to his account when we moved in, as well as signing the standard RBTA forms he provided and filled out.

Now, obviously he's repaid our bond so there's no issue there, but has anyone came across this seemingly nefarious practice before? It seems like he took our money under false pretences to keep in his own (interest-bearing) account, leaving it up to us to chase him down and hope he returns it. In which case he could have gone AWOL, could have been unable to pay back, could have held it back until unreasonable demands were met.

According to the RBTA, this is a big no-no and can result in fines for the landlord. In a heartbeat I would happily escalate it with the RBTA/VCAT to have his dodgy practice punished, but it seems like a weird situation since the only damages would be the amount of interest generated by holding onto our money for the years of our lease, since he did promptly return the money (I think the mention of us calling the RBTA spooked him a bit).

What should I do here? I stand to gain nothing and would be contacting the RBTA simply for a sense of justice over a dodgy practice. But I also have nothing to lose since we have our bond and returned the keys.

Where to find cured meat/salami?

I am looking for locations (anywhere, but close to Dandenong would be good) where I can find cured meat (mainly salami) from. The best example I could find is https://cured.nz/ under the salami section.

I am looking for spicy, super hot, and somewhat regular variations.

I need it before the 9th of December. Please help!

Hello Melbournians! Does anybody know of somewhere to buy gold coloured chocolate rocks around here? Have only found multicoloured ones and it's a little bit time sensitive so online may not work. TIA!!

Tea blending workshops?

Bit of a niche one today. I stupidly promised to book into a tea workshop for 6 people on dec 14th, before realising that date isn't available (Impala & Peacock). Just wondering if anyone has recommendations for a place we could go (relatively close to the cbd/inner suburbs) that does a "blend-your-own-tea" experience? Thanks Melbourne!

Best Masters course for macro social work placements/learning?

Hiya, I'm considering either enrolling in MSW at Melbourne Uni or RMIT and would love to hear from any professionals in the field or past students on their experiences with placements. My interest lies in more macro-level systemic work, advocacy, community organising or development.

I believe Melbourne Uni is the only place that has overseas placements in SW, but I can't find much online so would love if anyone has any experience with this.

I'm also wondering if I could just go with a Certificate IV in Community Development, however this wouldn't come with any placement opportunities.

Thanks!

wanted to know about auburn photo studio

Hey there, I recently found out about this place called "Auburn Photo Studio", near auburn station, I am curious about the building itself, since it was never open. And there are 0 information about that place, I'd like to know a little bit of history about it.

I did check the place out, but turns out its a residential area and whatever photos are displayed, it's still there. I find it weird honestly.

I fear feeling lonely while in Melbourne, because I prefer hikes over pubs.

I will land in Melbourne on 10th December, I’m a 26 year old guy, physically fit, like surfing, caring and good company mostly because of my wit and humour, but I’m coming from a non English speaking country so my spontaneity and jokes won’t be as much and I fear I might not be fun enough for Aussies to accept me. Also I do have a few non local girl friends in Melbourne but I don’t think they will be up for random hikes and exploration because of interests and their work timings. The other thing is the common touristy places I can find them on Google Maps, but I want to explore the more hidden side which locals know and enjoy, places that aren’t on the maps like a “backside place besides a creek, under a tree, in the bush where we hangout with some beers and a barbie” kind of a vibe Or go fishing somewhere. I don’t know if this type of thing even exists in Australia or would an outsider be invited to such. If anyone here has any kind of suggestions of what I can enjoy here or if anyone would like to show me around I would be super grateful and also helpful. 🙏 Thanks in advance.

Hi! I was thinking to get to La Trobe next year to do Bachelor of psychology (honours).

I'd like to know anyone's experience with this campus and see if it's actually good. Few people I spoke with recommended that this university is really good- especially if studying psychology.

Is the money worth it? I need help pls!

Is there any mental health support for low income earners?

I have a colleague who's doing it tough and it's really heartbreaking to see...

They opened up to me about how they cry themselves to sleep each night because they're broke and have no friends. And honestly: I had no idea what to tell them. Management gave them a performative mental health card and told them to call the hotline.

Is there anything I can point them in the direction of?...

It sounds like they lack a social life, but believe they cannot afford to maintain a hobby or any sort that would get them out and meeting people.

Any recommendations would be sorely appreciated, kind folk!

Need suggestions on where to sell PC Parts

I currently have some PC Parts, like really shi*tty ones. My GPU is a GT710 and my power supply is like 350W and I'm planning to sell it. However, I've had no luck on Facebook Marketplace. I've contacted places like Officeworks and Centrecom and they said they don't do trade-ins like this. So I'm stuck...Where can I sell it? Or even worse, do I have to throw it out???

How do you all deal with flies in the home?

Looking for solutions / life hacks as to how you all deal with flies inside the home around this time of year. I turn into a crazy person when I hear a fly inside the house and it becomes my sole focus to either kill it or get it back outside. We both like keeping the back door open which obviously invites them in, we've tried bead curtains, fly traps etc but would like to find a way to have the door open but keep the flies out.
