Monday Serious Discussion Thread

This thread is for when you want to have a well-thought-out discussion about footy. It's not the place for bantz - see the daily Random Footy Talk thread to fulfil those needs.

You can ask a question that you only want serious responses to, comment your 300 word opinion piece on why [x] is the next coach on the chopping block, or tell another that you disagree with them and here's why...

Who performed well? Who let their team down? Any interesting selections for this weekend? Injury news? Player signings? Off-field behaviour?

The mods will be monitoring to make sure you stay on topic and anything not deemed "serious discussion" will be removed.

Good state of origin history documentary?

I've got a mate who's new to league and wants to know all about state of origin, but searching youtube there's a few docos that seem... home made? Just wondering if anyone has any good recs that includes a comprehensive history and explanation of how it started etc?

Idea for a 20 team season

Once it gets to 20 teams just make it 19 games season. 9 at home, 9 away, 1 magic round. 3 week gap in the middle of the season for origin and Pacific cup eg NZ vs Tonga, Samoa vs PNG etc. Every team has a bye between rounds 5-9 (. 4 teams per week, so 8 game per weekend) and again between rounds 18-22 for a 24 week season

Week 1 -10 games

2 - 10

3- 10

4 - 10

5 - 8 games (4 teams with byes)

6 - 8

7 - 8

8 - 8

9 - 8

10 - 10

11 - 10

12 - Rep weekend

13 - Rep Weekend

14 - Rep weekend

15 - 10 games

16 - 10

17 - 10

18 - 8 games ( 4 teams with byes)

19 - 8

20 - 8

21 - 8

22 - 8

23 - 10 games

24 - 10

Every teams gets a bye before and after the Rep season, no team is forced to have a bye in the first four rounds. No team gets an advantage by having a bye within two weeks of the finals. Magic weekend with be a round that has 10 games, maybe week 4 or 10
