Looking at buying a yabby pump to get the kids into fishing. Not sure what’s a better size pump. Is the 30inch overkill, the 24inch not big enough? Thanks in advance 🍻
Hi yall
Went tailor fishing the other day using ganged hooks , found they always knicked the tail end first. Would it be a good idea to add a treble right at the end? Ive seen some but not many at the shops, so was thinking of DIYing it.
Any suggestions/tips/videos on how i should do it?
Pretty new to fishing, not targeting any specific sp, but I do prefer land based freshwater spots in north Brisbane. Picked up a few inline spinners for cheap because I hate using bait. Did I make a mistake buying these? Has anyone had success with them. So far I’ve got nothing from fishing them in northpine river.
do anyone know some good area for some abalone? in melb
Hi all, im looking to get into fishing a bit more properly, only ever fished with kmart gear for bream and flathead at the local river. Could I get a proper gear set up for under $350? Is it possible to have an all round fishing set up, one that you could use from the rocks, surf and in rivers, and could target most medium sized fish such as salmon, bonito, trevally, kingfish, tailor and maybe even small jewfish. Can someone please recommend gear including line, rod and reel which I could get at Anaconda or BCF. Cheers in advance.
I want to get in to abalone diving in Melbourne is there any ideal area near Melbourne areas
G’day,
I’m looking to get into beach fishing here in SEQ. Never fished from the beach before, but after watching a few vids, it looks like the chances of landing a decent fish are way better compared to estuary or river fishing (I usually fish around Logan, Coomera, and the Albert, but I was planning to head out to the Gold Coast beaches more).
At the moment, I’ve only got a 6ft rod for estuaries, but I’m keen to grab 2 or 3 setups for the beach—preferably in the $100-$200 range per combo if possible. I’m after something longer and stronger but still sensitive enough for whiting, bream, salmon, flathead, mulloway, and tailor.
Are there any good budget combos that are worth the coin? Also, what kind of rod holders do you use?
I’ve got 6.6” 1 piece 10 to 12kg rod, I’m wondering if i can use soft plastics on it? If so do I need larger plastics? I also fish on the murrumbidgee river for Cod, yellow belly and carp https://ibb.co/yntXLy2X
It's time for a decent fishing glasses again, so: costa or spotters?
I kinda gravitate towards spotters: they are australian, their halide lenses are dope and they seem to be way sturdier (also heavier).
Costa green is also great though, so I'm a bit torn.
For a pe 2to 3 setup what would be highest u would go for leader to maximise abrasion resistance going for king fish thinking about 80lb near stucture ?
I decided to go for a one off Yellow/ Bass box and I am a bit disappointed they say on the website that you get 5-7 lures well I only got 4 lures. One of the lures is a Mausrin jig but didn't come with the jig head or instructions on setting it up. Has anyone else had similar issues, are they a bit of a rip off.
Hey everyone, my 12-year-old son and I have been getting into land-based fishing and would love some advice on where to go and what to use!
What we’ve tried so far:
Catching tiny bream at Baxter’s Jetty on worms – fun, but we are talking tiny fish (<10cm).
He loves catching herring on a bait jig, but I reckon that excitement will fade soon.
Tried soft plastics (with scent) at Nudgee boat ramp this morning – no bites at all.
What we’d love advice on:
Best land-based spots between Newstead and Brighton
Recommended rigs, baits, and lures for this area.
Best times and tides to fish in these locations.
Important note: Wading isn’t an option because the kid isn’t a fan.
Any tips would be hugely appreciated! Keen to learn and get my son onto some better fish. I've been watching YouTube and such but hoping for some local advice
Thanks!
Pesky bream were nibbling so I downgraded to a #1 size hook & this greedy guts smashed my tiny piece of mullet.
Was talking with someone on another thread about using tool organisers from Bunnings as a tackle box and got me thinking what are some other Bunnings hacks that are useful for fishing?
I’ll share mine these are for holding temporary fencing instead of the standard concrete bases. But they make great rod holders bang them in about half way and slot the rod in they have never once let me down
What’s best rod taper for floating stick bait use
I want to do some carp fishing this weekend,
I’m happy to go at dawn but the major and minor times aren’t anyway near it? Is it still a good time to go?
Also, would corn on a running sinker be good for carp in the river?
Last night I caught a Threadfin salmon around Sandgate (qld), I have some left still and I was wondering if it would be suitable/safe for ceviche, and if it needs to be frozen or anything prior. I’ve never made ceviche before so if anyone can help or has any tips I’d appreciate it. Cheers.
Hey guys what are the best hardbody lures for fishing primarily from the beach
Hi guys, after my most recent fishing trip I've noticed pain in my right elbow. Does anyone know if this is related? If so how can I fix it? Just ice and rest?
Do any people in adelaide know where in the torrens to fish? I didnt catch any fish while I was fishing near the adelaide oval. I was also using someting like a hand lure, but ive seen others in the torrens using them and catching fish so i dont think thats the problem.
Got a spare week on my hands in Sydney and want to do a proper surf based fishing trip anywhere in the country. I don’t have a car but would fly a destination to stay for a few nights just to fish. Do you guys have any suggestions on places to go fish? Wanna target big sport species from land, kingfish, Gts, mulloway, tuna
I’m considering getting a Certate 21 sw 10000 and just wondering if it’s worth waiting for the new Certates (8000 or above models) in maybe 2026?
Caught of a Gold Coast beach
Want everyone’s opinions on the best estuary combos under 300$ my top 3 I’m trying to decide from are, Shimano Sahara , shimano sienna quickfire , or a shimano raider brim. Cheers

Bought a Shimano Maikuro 10’6” 4-7kg rod years back as a light beach/rocks rod and never decided on what reel to pair it with. Now I’m getting back into it and wanted to see what is out there. Budget up to $150 with a bit of wiggle room for a good reel.
First carp for the young fella 😁 Just on 60cm and put up a big fight!
Perhaps fishing with dad isn't completely boring after all 🙂
