International student - Albury

Hello, everyone!

I'm asking for a friend who is going to study at TAFE Albury as an international student. How is the public transport in Albury? Are buses/trains good enough to get around (home-school-work-malls) or does she need a car? Also, is getting an accommodation tough out there or are there also residents who offer homestays or would have a room rented out?

Posting in this sub because for some reason, I can't post in Albury's sub. Also hoping someone can answer. Thank you!

Driving Test with a car without handbrake

Hey guys,

I have my driving test next week, and I want to use my parent's car, which does not have a handbrake. Is that okay or do I have to bring a car with a handbrake?

Thank you so much for your help :)

Working with Children's Check NSW

So I'm applying for a WWCC and I need to provide one Commencement of identity Document which I have my birth certificate for, one primary use document which I have my Learners permit and two secondary use documents which I have my Medicare card. But for the second one, could I use my debit card? on the website is says i can use a current credit or account card issued by a bank. Would my debit card fall under that?

Also, when I was applying online, I needed reference numbers for each of these documents. Where would I find these numbers for my debit card, license and birth certificate? So maybe I should just go into a Service NSW Centre and do it in person.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, I’ve sold my car to a foreigner with a Sri Lankan id, the notice of disposal website doesn’t recognise the card number. Is there a way to get around this?

Urana Rd Albury

Can any locals advise if this is an OK area to buy into..house has come up in the area but noticing it seems to be a stretch of mainly duplexes and townhouses. Also Banks St north albury and Wadonga in general..any areas to steer clear of in either Albury or Wadonga. I hear Vickers rd was subject of many car thefts. Any insights would be so appreciated?

fire safety in syd

I'm teaching fire safety to employees in my workplace which involves practice with fire extinguishers and fire blankets. The fire blankets are made out of fibreglass of course which makes them awful to repeatedly fold and pack away because it leaves tiny invisible splinters all over my clothes and hands.

Is it ok to substitute out for a regular blanket for demonstration purposes? if I emphasise this is training piece?

Coastal town to live with young family - Port Macquarie, Ballina or Coffs?

Please let me know if any other options. My current analysis is:

Port - nice & full of retirees, not sure how much there is for kids to do, great beaches, good schools

Coffs - bit dero in parts, more sport happening, not sure the impact of the Highway bypass - quieter, unemployment etc. great beaches

Ballina - never been but location seems 10/10, expensive

How to get the most out of maternity leave?

I'm looking into starting a family in the next few years..

I'm confused by maternity leave.. Does Centrelink give you some parental leave AND your employer gives you some? Or does Centrelink pay your employer to give you the leave?

Anyone who has taken it before, what did you find was the best way to do it? (Ie: wait until the last second before labour to take it, take it half pay, split it up, etc?)

Thank you for any advice!

Please help with Service NSW

Hi there,

I've tried contacting Service NSW as well as the department for immigration and basically got no where. So I turn to trusty old Reddit to help.

I'm trying to setup a Service NSW account for my mother. The issue is that for some inexplicable reason, they do not accept NSW photo ID cards as a legitimate form of ID. As ridiculous as that sounds. The ID's they accept are (they require 2 forms of ID):

- Medicare

- Drivers licence

- Passport

- Visa

- Australian birth certificate

- Australian citizenship certificate

- Australian certificate registration by descent

- ImmiCard

- Aviation and maritime security identification card

The only forms of ID I can provide on this list are Medicare and an Australian citizenship certificate. The system accepted the medicare details but refuses to accept the citizenship details. I have no idea why. The website requires something called a "document number", which according to my research can only be the number following "AC(G) No." on the citizenship document. There are no other numbers printed anywhere else on the certificate other than dates. But here's the rub. It isn't accepting it!

Like I mentioned, both Service NSW and the department for immigration where of no help. Service NSW tells me to speak to the dept for immigration. The dept for immigration tell me since its the Service NSW system I'm trying to register in, it's up to them to explain why it isn't working.

So here I am. Stuck in the middle of these 2 organisations both pointing the proverbial finger at each other. Can anyone please help?!

Update: Got it working! Turns out when they refer to "number", they don't actually mean a number. What they're actually referring to is parts of the reference number plus letters. By using various combinations, I worked out that what they actually wanted was the some (but not all) of the preceding letters minus parenthesis as well as the number after those letters. What a stupid system.

Mountain/Forest Towns?

Looking to maybe move to NSW sometime in the future, was wondering if there was any towns next to mountains or have large forests surrounding it?

Live in a really ugly boring place atm in QLD, hoping to move somewhere that doesn’t make me want to tear my eyes out. Would be nice to have some decent scenery around me instead of flat land.

Rego - Green Slip

Hey guys, I‘m not from Australia so I‘m not familiar with registering a car here. I‘m trying to get rego for a van here. I already got the blue slip and now I‘m trying to get the green slip (CTP). To get a quote (online) on a green slip I need a NSW drivers licence, TfNSW customer number or NSW photo card number. Since I‘m not from here I don’t have any of those. Where/how can I get a green slip? Is there somewhere I can go where they will help me?

Thanks in advance!

Small towns

Currently in Armidale, debating making a move within the next year and was hoping to see if anyone could give me suggestions similar to Armidale.

I was considering Tamworth but that’s too big for my liking, would love the town to have at least some fast food nearby and at least a Coles, not too fussed about anything else.

Colder the better as well!

Scammed.. but I have their home address

So I’ve been scammed on marketplace. I know, stupid. I bought something from a normal seller with a real profile, and they were going to post it to me as I’m interstate. I paid direct deposit like a real moron.

She then upped the price on the listing (I got it at a good price so she would have had more people asking for it), and didn’t respond to me for a week. She’s now blocked me.

Her FB is linked to her and her partners business, and that business address is actually their residential address and also has their phone numbers listed. I also have her families FB accounts from them writing on her wall for her birthdays, so I’m tempted to send them all a little message letting them know she’s a scammer.

I accept that the money is gone because I’m a moron, but any suggestions on what else I can do to ruin her day? Keeping in mind she also has my address lol.

Road Trip to Broken Hill and Beyond.. advise

Hey, listen to this. Do you think it's possible to take my MX-5 RF ND2 on a road trip to Broken Hill? I've been on some pretty long drives before, like from Sydney to Melbourne and up to Brisbane. I've even gone as far west as Bathurst and Orange. But I've always wanted to see if I could make it all the way to Broken Hill and check out that Mad Max scene. Do you think it's doable? I'd love to do some astrophotography and explore the area. What do you think?

Apology to Call Centre Customer Service Representatives(I used to be an angry person now I appreciate you and want the world to know)

Dear Call Centre Customer Service Representatives -I used to be an angry person and I used to be a financially unstable person. This combination of unfortunate circumstances resulted in me directing some of my anger towards Call CentreCustomer Service Representatives. For this I am truly sorry. It may please you to learn that I have dealt with my anger issues and I have also learnt to understand my emotions so I no longer direct my anger towards others.I wish you could understand how it feels to direct your anger towards a person who is professional, patient and understanding but I wouldn't wish a fit of rage on my worst enemy so perhaps you can take my word for it instead because even though I was delusional during these incidents I can clearly recall the patient, understanding and professional way you dealt with me. I know I didn't deserve that level of communication but I believe I needed it.Now that I have begun to understand the impact these experiences had on my life at a time when I needed to be understood more than anything but didn't deserve to be,I only hope my words can express how valuable your skills, behaviour and attitude towards me were in my time of need.In summary, while angry people most probably won't appreciate you in the moment and may unfortunately never come to appreciate you, your skills in dealing with them have an immense impact on them therefore you should be very proud of the way you handle these things.I only hope you can appreciate yourselves as much as I appreciate you

Coastal Camping with Dog

Hi All I'm hoping someone can provide some suggestions and recommendations. My wife and I with our small dog want to do some camping not far from the coast so that we have access to the beach.

We're struggling to find any campsites that allow dogs and tbh most we've found are in national parks anyway.

We're in Syndey (central) and willibg to drive ~5 hours.
