Hey i wanna ask some tips about shopping groceries (like when should i get it to get discount etc). Living as a broke uni student in sydney is really tough
My partner was recently diagnosed by the brilliant and hard-working staff at Sydney Eye Hospital with a tear in his retina. He’s since had an eye test at an optometrist in Liverpool Westfield to update his prescription glasses to quite expensive multifocals, which were apparently going to take a couple of weeks. The optometrist blamed the delay since on “the supplier” and now someone has called saying the glasses have “failed quality control” and will take another week. How un/common is this? I’ve never heard of QC in optometry and suspect The Supplier needed to enjoy some extra vacay time. Thoughts? Is there anywhere we can go to quality check quality checks? Someone at Sydney Eye Hospital also criticised optometrists for often sending patients unnecessarily to their ED - adding that the “whole system” is a rort and optometrists are profiting unbelievably from prescription glasses. A quick google suggests there is an oversupply but they’re still pulling in an avg $100K-$120K salary…. Again, thoughts - esp from anyone in the industry?
What's with all the car accidents lately happening everywhere in Sydney, Newcastle as well as Wollongong. Even with all the new cars and safety features why are there so many non fatal collisions still happening involving cars rear end smashing each other like crazy. What's causing them??
I'm from the US where police and fire are generally a local matter and I know they're a state responsibility in Australia, but I've been told by an Australian friend that the police and fire brigades in Australia are under the nominal control of local authorities. Mainly having to put a sign up before speed traps in some councils.
Edit: the conversation was specifically about the NSW police force but I'm interested in other states and agencies too
Hi all!! I am going for my P plates this Thursday and I'm wondering how strict the testing vehicle inspection is. have just noticed my car has a small chip out of the back right light lense in the corner. I know they check lights specifically according to the guides, but if this is going to be an issue, I want to know ASAP so I can borrow a car.
The car is roadworthy and registered with a pink slip, but it does have a clunky transmission changing gears which is noticed occasionally, mostly at 60km+.
TIA
EDIT: to borrow a car would be a pain in the backside and potentially cost me 200 bucks.
We're renewing our lease on the home we're living in and the agent asked whether we wish to sign a new renewal lease (fixed term) or leave it as a continuing lease.
What are the pros and cons of both from a tenant's point of view?
I'm aware there are differences in minimum notice period for ending the lease, how much should this factor in my decision to choose one of these renewal methods?
Lady gaga mayhem night march 8th x2 tickets
Hey guys, I pulled an absolutely oopsies and brought two tickets for a lady gaga themed night in sydney instead of melbourne (where i live) - I was just wondering if anyone wanted to snag the sydney tickets off me?
Be they childish or whatever- I ask for a linguistic project on such slang!
Planning on doing my test for my Red Ps in a couple of weeks and the way I understand it you must have at least 1 meter space between your car and parked cars on the side of the roads. And if that meter forces you a little bit onto the other lane no indicator is required but if you move over too far you need an indicator and blind spot.
I'm having trouble knowing when ive gone too far so would I be allowed to do an indicator and blind spot even when it's not necessary if I'm unsure about it or would I get points deducted?
Thank you!
Not sure if this is the right sub for this. Please put me in the right direction if not.
My end of lease is 26/02 but I'm leaving on 14/02. Was given 6 months notice that the landlord didn't want to extend the lease.
The agent is now saying the bins have to be washed or I won't get the entire bond back...
Never heard of this before and it honestly seems ridiculous to me. The bins were not washed when I moved in. A lot of things in the house were not cleaned properly and I took photos of all that to have just in case but not of the bins.
Is this something the agent can really force me to do?
Already planning to report them after leaving for a bunch of other stuff, including harassing me to leave consistently ever since I got the 6 months notice. So I just wouldn't be surprised if this was the agent doing something dodgy. I cant find any info when I look it up, just that the bins shouldn't have rubbish in them but that's normal. Just not the whole completely washing them out thing...
We're having an issue with the neighbor's use of a building information certificate (BIC) to regularise a blatantly unlawful development with perpetual noise and privacy impacts.
The DA was ignored, they were issued a development control order (DCO). The DCO is now being ignored because they have applied for a BIC to circumvent both the DA and the DCO.
In their Submission on Reforming Building Laws in NSW, the local government association of NSW (LGNSW) states that:
BICs are not an appropriate mechanism for authorising non-compliant building work and must not become a proxy to circumvent the construction certificate (CC) or complying development certificate (CDC) processes or the DBP Act
and further that
LGNSW has been advocating for a commitment from the NSW Government to review the BIC framework to reduce the misuse of these certificates for ‘approving’ unauthorised works.
As the innocent party next door, I dont get how the developer can just get around planning legislation for $500 and why councils (in my case, Sutherland Shire Council) can be so complicit in this gross perversion of the planning system.
Just a rant - I'm fucken pissed off because the planning system is supposed to reign in the worst excesses of inconsiderate cunts but council seem all too happy to wave it through.
Original article from SMH but I can’t link due to the paywall
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GhPdPiJBlScd- news report on the same topic (not paywalled!)
I don’t understand how this issue is just being side stepped as apparently under control in press conferences held by the NSW government when it’s so clear that we can and should do something to address it. The (mental) health system is in crisis and has been for years due to chronic underinvestment.
Not to mention, managing long wait times in emergency departments was a pre-election promise Chris Minns made and campaigned on. As was coming to the table for nurses. Can’t we do better?
Hi all, I was wondering if the mount victoria speed camera (in the downhill direction) takes a picture of the front or rear of your car. any information would be greatly appreciated.
Hey guys Im doing a trip to goldy tomorrow, just wondering where I can get some weed? (Non medical) Like around Byron or lismore or nimbin? Would prefer a under the counter shop, not some random on the street. Thanks guys
I'm looking into getting a baseline security clearance and maybe Nv1 down the line for my career, but I have an assault charge from over eight years ago for a fight and a failure to leave premesis. Which led to a two-year good behaviour bond. Other than that, my record is clean, including financially. Would this be a dealbreaker for getting clearance? And if so, would this change after those offences pass the 10 year mark?
I'm only asking because Im not really sure of the process and what they look into when considering a person for clearance.
Just wanted to say my 97 in legal studies got scaled down to an 81. I just can’t believe it. All my hard work, studying 10 hours a day for the subject (this was year 11 I was doing it compressed) all went down the drain. I have to take extra subjects this year to make up for it. I’m distraught and my motivation is in the gutter. Anyone had similar experiences?
Does anyone know why the gate just before Burrawang Reach Rd becomes Cattle Duffers Flt Rd is closed?
Based on google maps images it appears to have been shut since sometime between 2016 and 2018.
I went for a walk in the national park on Australia Day and the space past the gate is quite over grown and all the bathrooms past the gate are locked shut and heavily overgrown.
Just wondering if anyone knows why it's been locked and the area past left to be reclaimed by nature?
Hi all,
This is me renewing CTP insurance for the first time.
I got a better quote from a different provider than my current one, and will be going with them. I set up the policy on phone with the new provider.
My existing CTP expires on the 9th of Feb, but noticed on my new Policy papers that the new CTP policy is set to start on the 10th of Feb.
I’d like to know if the agent set up the correct policy start date? Should it not start on the 9th Feb (same day when old one expires)?
Appreciate your response!
Thanks
Assuming you had a decent income 160k plus super. Where would you live with a young family for about 2 years? Got 2 kids under 3.
is "collection of antique weaponry" a good enough reason or nuh uh
The official laws state that a P1 driver in NSW can tow a trailer which is up to 250kg unloaded which is very low. Can someone clarify that this is only the unloaded weight and the only other restrictions are the general rules and laws for payload capacity. I would like to know this because I dont own a 4x4 and want to go camping so plan on using my dads trailer and filling it up with camping gear and heading out to a 2wd accessible campground with some mates and having a good time.
Thinking of moving to a northern NSW town. People who have moved from QLD what are the main differences you found?
Eg I know there’s a difference with car rego and you have to pay for ambulance cover?
I recently got this offer but I am already 22. I wonder if it is too late or not. Any advice?
Hi everyone, is anyone else freaking out a bit about NSW losing most of its public health psychiatrists in a couple of weeks?
hi so i’m 22 and will be moving here next week for uni (international student). I haven’t gotten the vaccine yet and was wondering where i could get one in the area and how getting one works? I do have an OSHC but not quite sure how to work it yet. Any insight greatly appreciated!
Hey everyone, just a general question for anyone who has a minute, I'm an international student and I hold a valid Driver's license Issued in Saudi Arabia, what's the process like to get an Australian driving license through it ?
