Hi All, we are coming up to the GC in January for my daughter’s second birthday. We are staying at our apartment in Broadbeach and are planning on driving up the Brisbane on her actual birthday to go to Bluey’s world….
Because of things like her nap schedule (12:30-2:30) and travel time I’m trying to work out if we are best to drive up in the morning (leave around 8am, her birthday is a Tuesday, so normal work day) or drive up the night before and stay along the river somewhere. What’s the travel time like from GC to Brisbane these days? Last time I drove (last September) is was around a 90min trip.
I'm currently at the end of my 6 month probation, I was employed originally about a 2 minute walk from my apartment and it was a dream role. Recently out of the blue the entire office has moved and will be over 1.5 hrs to and from the office each day by transport. My question is will I be in the wrong for quitting or leaving before my contract ends as the travel has become ridiculous and are not helping me with flexible options. I really like this job but I just cannot see any reason for such travel when I could work so much closer. I wasn't even employed to be working so far.
I work from 7-3.30 but with the travel I will be left home by 5am and not home until just after 5pm...
Did all the tweakers finally unite and blaze up in unison before hitting the M1?

My real estate is currently forcing the use of Ailo as the only option to pay rent. The only “fee-free” way is to manually type in bank details each time (remembering bank details incurs a fee) and manually make the payments (yep, recurring payments incur a fee too). I’m taking this to QCAT (after various RTA discussions)on the basis that it does not meet the new legislation introduced in September. I’m curious to know if any other tenants are having this issue on the GC and what your real estates are doing?
Hey, me and a few other friends all in our early 20’s are planning a trip for a week to stay in the middle of surfers paradise and need some ideas of what we could do while we stay we don’t have a budget to worry about so any suggestions are welcome
Does anyone have any recommendations for transfers from GC Burleigh area to Brisbane international? Direct train isn’t running.
Was more than happy to get the train but they’re doing track work so that journey would now be train - bus - train so not ideal with large luggage.
There are 2 of us. Appreciate any suggestions cheers
Just moved to the Gold Coast based in Hope Island. Was playing a lot before I moved here a d feeling a bit homesick so keen to join a group / club asap.
Are there any badminton clubs one could join in the GC?
Been playing in a lot of clubs and division teams. Looking to join people/club that can have fun without the politics and drama without it getting too serious.
Got absolutely drenched in Surfers Paradise yesterday, and it looks like today's gonna be much the same - though apparently there's a bit of a break in the arvo. It's my fourth trip to the Goldie, so I've ticked off a fair few of the main attractions already, but I'd love some fresh ideas.
What's good to do around here when the weather's not playing nice? I'm open to indoor activities, hidden gems, or even spots that are worth a visit when it's wet. I don't mind getting a little soggy again if it's worth it!
Hi all
I’m missing those funky cafes in Brisbane where it’s cool to just curl up and read a book and order some coffees and cake over a couple of hours (think new farm and west end).
Is there anything like that on the GC - preferably in the north??
thanks!
Going to surfers tomorrow for a week long family holiday and wondering if schoolies is still on?
I'm looking around REA and see quite a lot of apartment/units/townhouses are available from $600 p.w plus in medium area such as Southport, Helensvale, etc.
However, a shit load of properties in Broadbeach, Surfers Paradise, Main Beach that are considered high-end are charging easily $1000+ p.w.
What are your rents right now at the moment and how much of your take home pays go to rent?
Wonder how long it’ll be out for / what caused it. My guess is tram works accidentally broke something
Does anyone know how much membership will be here? I’ve been told It’s an upgrade from Robina town centre
Any idea how to pre-empt the irregular flyovers performed by the RAAF up the GC beaches? I always run outside when I hear the jets but am often too late to catch sight of them. I would love to get well positioned next time. Always fun to watch.
I might be better posting to r/RAAF but that thread is a ghost town.
A member in my family has a sensitivity to tastes and smells, and can't stand tap water on the Gold Coast
I'm aware it's safe to drink, just not pleasant to drink - and I am going to assume the main culprit of the less than pleasant taste is chlorine/chloramine.
For those who do use a water filtration system - is there a specific type/combination of filter elements that you've found works best on the GC? Or any that aren't effective?
Trying to avoid a reverse osmosis system if possible due to the amount of water it wastes (usually 1:2 ratio) and hoping a good carbon block filter will do the trick.
My uncle used to run a cafe which had to close due to the building being demolished.
He's recently opened a small restaurant/take-away shop but it's tucked away somewhere hard to see.
How best to let the community know that it exists?
I have a relative who has moved into an aged care facility. A previous retinal occlusion means they only have vision in one eye, so I’m on the hunt for some second-hand large print books to help ease the transition (tried audio books but this was unsuccessful).
The Cystic Fibrosis Queensland bookshop in Nundah used to have an excellent range but I’d like to find something closer, if possible, that doesn’t entail the M1. Grateful for any suggestions.
PS. I’m aware the Gold Coast library has large print resources but this is also currently a non-starter.
Water disconnected for 5 hours from the morning. I didn't get any notice from neighbour or council. What's happen near here?
Hey everyone,
Any recommendations for a good broadband provider with good price and reasonable speed for casual gaming.
Hi, my partner and I are planning to go to Surfers or Noosa for NYE as we are in QLD. What should we do and what’s the place to be at? Thanks! (Already heard about the fireworks at surfers)
Someone was either a bit hungry or stuck in a sticky situation at the Men's bathroom near the Australia Post in the Paradise Centre in Surfers Paradise....
hi, i wasn’t sure where to put this so i’ll just put it in here and hope i can get some help.
for context, i just finished my year 12 external exams and am going into university next year hoping to study paramedicine at griffith. while i think i did well on my exams, due to stupid mistakes of not trying in earlier years and throughout year 12, i don’t think ill get the atar i need (which is a 96). the closest university to offer this degree is up in brisbane and ipswich.
the decision i need to make is, do i go into nursing at griffith for a year and transfer across, adding a year of study overall + the cost of the year, or do i take an offer in brisbane and make the commute each time i have a lecture.
the problem with taking an offer in brisbane is i feel like i will lose the motivation to make the ~1-2 hour commute daily or however often i need to and therefore drop out of the course or stop trying as hard.
griffith is just 15 minutes away from my house and is a far better university for this degree and id really like to go here. paramedicine has been an interest of mine forever. what do i do?
tldr; don’t think ill make the atar to do my degree at griffith on the gold coast, but feel like taking a offer in brisbane will make me lose motivation as its the only closest uni to offer it.
My partner and I are staying near Byron Bay for the next 2 weeks. We are keen to drive around and explore the area during our time we are here.
We love marine wildlife and are intermediate swimmers. We looked at some snorkelling tours to Julian Rocks, but neither of us are 100% about open sea swimming at this stage, and we don't want to ruin somebody else's tour.
Couple of main questions now:
Q1.Is the water shallow-ish around Julian Rocks? Would you recommend it for some newbies to enjoy their first time snorkeling?
Q2.What/where else would you recommend doing/going to spot some of the beautiful animals this coast offer? (We own some amazon-grade snorkelling gear, that we never have used before)
Thanks, let us know what to do!
Lots of work going on but can't find information anbout it... Is it just more carparks? Or development of a shopping precinct or something?
Moving to the Gold Coast and one of my goals for the year is fitness. I'm a young 20's male looking for recommendations for personal trainers with the goals of mainly gaining muscle and become toned. Open to different styles of coaching such as functional fitness vs crossfit vs bodybuilding/ weights. Would appreciate any recommendation people have had with great PT's. Any gyms as well that people rate? Price is flexible and am willing to pay for someone if they can help me achieve my goals. I'll be staying around Southport/ near Gold Coast Uni.
