Hey guys,
Just wondering if anyone's in the same boat. Just recieved my ergon bill for Jan-Apr and the cost is $1,800!!! It's usually sitting around 700. We do have a pool, however my partner works away so 1800 for 1.5 people for 3 months seems ridiculous.
Anyone else had a similar issue, and any luck trying to get Ergon to knock it down? Want to see if it's even worth putting my big girl pants on and phoning them....
Cheers all.
And the rain sounds so nice in the mornings
Partner and I are staying for close to a week in Palm Cove very shortly. Both been to Cairns a few times but not Palm Cove. We love fishing, snorkelling, swimming, playing pool, music, beers and food. On a bit of a budget coz honestly who tf isn’t these days, is there any land based fishing spots or easy access snorkelling places (if we take our own gear?) Are there any pubs with a pool table?
Any advice would be awesome. Unless the advice is “don’t go to Palm Cove” because it’s already booked and paid for 😂 cheers guys
Got a trip to Vietnam coming up in a couple of months & I've been told it's a good idea to get some travel vaccinations such as hepatitis a&b, typhoid, and cholera before I go. I was just wondering if anyone has advice as to where the best place to get these travel vaccines is and how much it costs.
Hi
I plane to do Scenic rail from Cairns to Kuranda and Skyrail back to Cairns.
Roundtrip ticket gives me 3 hours and I can see if I can take later skyrail (if allowed) to get 4 hours.
However I am not sure after GBR snorkeling and Daintree Day tour, what are the things that are worth seeing in Kuranda?
These are the list of things I found:
Bird World
.Australian Butterfly Sanctuary
Koala and Wildlife Park (Plan to see Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary in Brisbane and Phillip Island, Moonlit Wildlife Sanctuary and Noobies Boardwalk in Melbourne)
Amphibious WWII Army Duck ride/Duck Rainforest Tour - is it similar to Daintree tour (doing a day before)
Pamagirri Aboriginal Experience
Thanks
Hi locals, I did a post last November how I am a social worker who worked for 9 years in the local community with homeless families and women/men escaping DV. I burnt out and suffering crippling depression and almost lost my house. Good news is I am recovering and my workcover claim was accepted so I’m not in a bad financial situation and can concentrate on recovery and getting back on the frontline of the homeless crisis crippling Cairns and the nation as a whole. I am still collecting peoples cans and bottles for recycling because it gives me something to do. I just volunteered for Yaps. If anyone has any recyling they want me to pick up. I am happy to do 50/50 on the collection profit. To the few people offered me food money when I was doing it rough, I just want you to know how much that meant to me.
I have a need for speed , where is the best place to go?
Hey guys I'm moving to Cairns in a few days and I'm considering it just to work hard for 6 months and save as much as possible. I'm not stranger to long hard work days in the sun and that does not deter me as Im well capable to work like that.
I have experience as a maintenance man in hotels using basic power tools and painting, soldering, landscaping, heavy lifting, cleaning and demolition,
I'm physically fit and strong. The only thing I think I need is a white card. I don't have a license to drive either.. Would you reckon it would be difficult for me to get work as a labourer with no license and my experience?
Thanks for your help
Not the Botanical gardens cafe because the reviews are terrible and expensive. Tank 64 is good but wondering if any other suggestions for hidden gems?
Hi, Looking for an all ages venue showing Eurovision semi finals or finals. Is there anywhere locally that fits the bill? Rather not watch it at home
Anyone know of some abandoned places further north then cairns? A few around cairns and a little south but haven’t heard of many past port Douglas, or even Daintree would be cool
Anyone know how to get to the abandoned hydro station at Barron falls? Don’t want to go till it’s dry but would like to plan ahead, and any other abandoned places would be cool
Long shot but does anyone know a book shop that will sell these ? Even a Dutch dictionary. Been to two so far but there was nothing
I'm going for my driving test in Mareeba next week. I live in cairns but need my licence asap to keep my job. How are the roads up there? Anything to be mindful of? I have an hour lesson before the test but very nervous. Thank you!!
I thought given we've had the recent weather events that have given many the opportunity to make a claim with their insurers, how have those claims gone, who gets a gold star and who's trying their hardest to not pay out claims? Who should be named and shamed and who should be praised.
There is a trail that I like to walk with my dog but there is a creek right next to it and it is pretty well covered by the trees and there are so many mosquitoes, does anyone have any ideas on how to deal with them? I tried going with a jumper and long pants on and enclosed shoes but the get in my nose and ears and all over my dog, I haven't been able to go for a couple days :(
Looking for any restaurant recommendations with Gluten Free options/majority gluten free menu.
All cuisines welcomed.
Was there today and two of the stairs to main swimming spots had gates put up with sign saying "closed due to public safety". Of course, folks were just jumping them and swimming anyway, no judgement from me. But any idea why council put them up? Overheard someone say it was possibly because of the latest drowning in March? Couldn't find any info on council website...
Please share your known daily food specials here.
E.g Grand hotel does $10 steaks every day
Hi everyone!
We booked our return flights from Tokyo to Brisbane using points. We were blinded by how cheap it is with points that we didn't realise it has a 8 hr layover in Cairns. We land at 4:30 AM. I'm assuming that we will be out of there by 5:30. We fly to Brisbane at 12:45 PM. What can we do in those 8 hrs? Is it worth travelling out of the airport area or should we stay in the airport for the whole 8 hrs?
Are there any places that offer day trips or cheap places we can check in for couple of hours to sleep?
Edit: woops! I thought it was 12 hrs at first then did the maths and it turned out to only be 8hrs. I forgot ti edit the title
Hi, I am considering working in atherton and concerned about transportation. I couldn’t find any bus service that runs within the town. For someone that doesn’t drive, how easy will commuting be?
Have just returned home to Kewarra Beach after several months spent in northern NSW. As per usual it's a dreary grey skied day with scattered showers. So glad to have escaped *hopefully* the bulk of the Wet season to what was clear blue skies, clean ocean water, yes at the actual shore not miles to sea.
The last 4 supposed Dry seasons have been anything but! Many wet days throughout the May to November period. Will it be any different this year*
Apart from warmer temperatures, I'm now feeling that FNQ is extremely overrated for it's attraction to visitors. All hype......no delivery!
Hi all! I'm on a whv and planning on moving to Cairns (from Melbourne) this weekend, please be honest.. What are the chances I'll find a job in hospitality there?
Id like to do my 88 days in the north (preferably in hospo but farming would be good as well), the challenging part is that I don't have my own transportation so this kinda limits my options. I don't have a drivers license so no option of driving. What I do have is 4+ years experience in hospitality.
Just trying to see what I can expect and if you have any advice. I'm a bit desperate as my money really is running out.
Thanks!
Hy everyone! Im visiting Cairns this weekend with my girlfriend. I want to surprise here with a (romantic diner). Any recommendations for good restaurants? And places that do like a set course meal? Also any tips for a nice pub/bar with live music is also greatly appreciated?
