Hi all,
Just wanted to see if anyone can help me with some pricing/tips/etc.
my partner and I are looking to move to Perth from Melbourne in September and just wanted to know if anyone has any experience moving furniture and other household items with moving companies.
Any recommendations for moving companies, rough prices etc would be super helpful
If anyone has ever taken some plants interstate also and has an idea of the process that would also help super helpful to know.
Thanks!
anyone know any bridge or cliff jumping spots in perth apart from blackies.
Welcome to the Perth Book Club!
Book Club will be held at 10am every Tuesday.
What is this?
This is a place to share what you are reading or perhaps look for suggestions for new material. Have a favourite author you want to talk about? Looking forward to an upcoming release? All are welcome here.
These threads are posted every Tuesday and various times (depending on when I'm free).
Book Swap
Are you looking to buy/sell/swap/give some books? Please feel free to list them here in this thread. Do you see something you want that someone is offering? Send them a Private Message so that you can organise the details.
Do Audiobooks count?
Absolutely! This isn't a place for purity of written material, this is a place to share.
What about manga/comics/visual novels?
More than welcome here. If it's something you're reading/listening to and you want to talk about it, you're home.
Spoilers
It should go without saying that no one wants a book spoiled. Please put anything that could be a spoiler inside a spoiler tag. If you aren't sure if it is a spoiler or not, act like it is.
With electricity costs going up and solar only helping so much, I wanted to know had anyone tinted their windows at home? Did you do it yourself or did you get someone to come round and do it? I think the most important question is was it worth it and did it cool the house down?
Thanks in advance for any advice Much appreciated
Can't seem to find them
Hi, I’m a student currently job hunting but having a tough time finding something. I have very little work experience and have been applying through Seek, Indeed, LinkedIn, Jora, etc., with no luck. I’ve also tried contacting businesses directly through Google Maps, but that hasn’t worked either.
I’m open to any work, but most job sites suggest retail, admin, or early learning roles. I’d love to explore other industries that hire people with no experience, but I’m not sure where to look.
Does anyone have advice on where else I can search or any industries that are more open to hiring newbies?
What is the deal with the complete lack of commuter train etiquette in Perth? I've moved from a big city in North America a while ago and have found the train etiquette or lack there of shocking since moving. When the train is busy in the morning/after work, people don't move in they just crowd the door, no one takes their bags off their backs to allow more room, when people need to exit the train instead of people near the door stepping off the train to allow people off and then stepping back in like everywhere else in the world people are forced to push past everyone to get out, no one moves out of priority seats for elderly, pregnant, people push to get on the train before allowing people off and stand literally right in front of the door instead of allowing people off.. ! WTf! Is this because it's a smaller city and people have just never become accustom to adopting peak time behaviour or is everyone selfish? I get so frustrated and now I'm pregnant and notice even more!
Edit* people are getting confused with North America thinking I'm comparing to USA... North America is many countries not just the USA. I am from Canada where I have always found has very aligned values to Aussies in general.
Is there anyone in Perth (NOR) that would be able to fix holes in 2x doors for me? And maybe also help with getting oil stains off my driveway?
Stupidly let some people move into my rental and they’ve absolutely destroyed it. Need to fix it before anyone else finds out 😭
26f and 26m looking for a good runaround. We're ideally looking for a RAV 4 2003-2009 . Is it a good option to go and look at a used dealership or what's the best app to buy a car off of with the best options. I'm also looking at Facebook marketplace.
Looking to take my sister and her family on their first camping trip.
Any recommendations for either DBCA/Private campgrounds that have toilets, showers and a basic camp kitchen? Ideally looking for about max 3hrs south of Perth (travelling with toddlers so will likely take us much longer), preferably in the south west but open to other directions.
Looking for builder recommendations for a double storey 4x3x2 First time builder here! Any recommendations and tips will be much appreciated. Looking a builder that's good quality with reasonable finishing timelines.
Market place is such a waste of time and I'm not talking about the ghosting and "is this available"?
Marketplace should be renamed 'Anko +Temu' Marketplace. Since Christmas and the unnecessary gift giving, the number of anko and temu items has increased on marketplace and in opshops. Some are also doing drop shipping and charging people double or more for the price they first bought it. Second hand items are being sold at full price, it's ludicrous.
Hi all,
I’m looking for some information how I can be more involved in standing with the Perth LGBTQIA+ community. I want to be a better ally and be more proactive and aware of what is happening on a community level.
Does anyone know of particular organizations that are doing great work? Or any newsletters so I can be more informed?
Please be supportive in the comments.
Looking for a well respected paver for around our pool when it’s installed.
Thank you!
Need some help for a friend trying to find somewhere to live, Can someone post what websites they use to find a rental home. As foolish as I think it sounds he tells me he doesn't want to go through a real estate agent.
Is this illegal? There is an elderly man who frequently dumpster dives in my apartment complexes bins. He makes an absolute mess and it seems really unsafe given his age. I believe he used to live at the complex and hasn’t given back the access fob so still can enter the carpark. The unit he claims to live in has a different vehicle parked there now and he used to leave garbage in his car bay, which has been empty for a while now. He appears to have Parkinson’s and definitely has some cognitive decline/mental health issues. I confronted him today and he didn’t care, refused to leave when I asked him to, also has limited English. Am I within my right to report this to police? I feel sorry for him but he will inevitably injure himself doing this and doesn’t clean up after he’s done raiding the trash. I’m not convinced this is a cost of living thing — definitely seems more mental health related. He’s not just collecting recyclables, it’s actual trash he’s taking too. It’s actually very sad, he was digging through roach infested garbage and covered in muck. He needs to be linked in with community services. Is there anything else I can do other than reporting to police and strata?
What's the right way to shake somebody's hand
So I just started out as a machine operator at a bricking company and I am wanting to improve my future job life (nothing wrong with how things are currently).
They just started advertising for a mechanical fitter apprenticeship but I was thinking an electrical apprenticeship would be more my thing. I have asked how often an apprenticeship opens up and was told it’s not to often.
I am 29 years of age but can’t live off a standard apprenticeship with a hour rate of $26 -$30. If I go through this company my hour rate would not change. Pays pretty well.
Should I go and try the fitter apprenticeship or wait for an sparky one?
For context I’m currently earning just over $82k however am not happy at my current place of employment. I’m studying part time and online, but working 7-4 Sunday-Thursday. Please no comments saying I’m not going to manage both I don’t need the negativity 🙏
Hi,
I am needing to get my kiddo into low cost/free social skills training. We live in the Kwinana area. Do you guys know of anything around here or if a GP could provide a referral to a good specialist for this? Many thanks
OK so like correct me if I'm wrong, the etiquette for the escalators anywhere is you get to one side to give overs space to get past right.
Going done to the bus depot to get my bus this evening, some guy standing in the middle, try to get past and then he just arms up on the sides to stop me (my bus is going to leave in a min) then starts going off at me saying if I want to walk take the stairs.
Push past the fuckwomble and he calls me all sorts of shit and how again escalators aren't for walking down.
Like fuck me, if you want a ride go to adventure world, but like don't be a fucking tool and stop people from catching their bus. Just stand to the side, don't be a usless twat and deliberately hinder other people. Takes way less energy to do the right thing than the wrong.
My company has an office in Perth, and I have the chance to move here for a month. It only requires one day in the office a week, so could effectively get accommodation anywhere.
Where would be the best place? Is the CBD far to visit the beaches? Or would I be best staying near a beach and visiting CBD?
Any tips would be useful!
Edit: Please if you can't say anything helpful or constructive, keep scrolling past. Don't be mean.
When sending out the book and stationery lists, I reckon schools should ask families (in a statement in the book lists) to check to and see if their kids have stationery stuff left over from last year, rather than asking them to buy it all over again.
Buying all new stuff is expensive and it fills the house and planet up with shite!
Guys, I have a date in freo in an hour and I am freaking out. I’m contemplating bailing. It’s been literally a decade since I’ve been on a date with a man and while I’m not overly invested and feel no stress about whether he’ll like me or not I’m too nervous to go.
I don’t know how to explain it. I just am freaking out sooo hard. Advice? Help? Cancelling excuse ideas?
Thanks
UPDATE: Thank you sooo much to all of you who replied honestly!! I read those replies and it just amped me up and I thought fuck it and I got out my car and waddled into the pub. I’m soo glad I went, he was lovely we chatted. There were moments I was super awkward but I never mentioned anything. Kind wish I had incase he thought I was weird but oh well.
Even if it doesn’t amount to anything I’m so happy I did this, for me!! I told myself 2025 was going to be a year that I did different things and stepped out of my comfort zone and lived life and this feels like a step in the right direction like inside me I just feel so proud of my self. I have really bad social anxiety and this just feels like a big WIN. I’m not phased if he doesn’t reach out afterwards but if he does then I’ll be back posting for another pep talk from you all lol.
For anyone who feels the way I did before my date and is ever in the same position, just go because hustle as so many of you said, what’s the worst that could happen lol
THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART 🖤🖤
Hi guys, I’m a entry level FIFO worker on 8/6, but the bills are too much atm for me, I’m looking for advice on what to do as side hustle in my RnR to help get me through. Ideas I had are become part time truck driver or do a traffic management, people who do it, any advice how’s these 2 ideas? Or should I do something else? Cheers
Im into punk type of music from the late 90s and early 2000s but I can't really find anyone else who's interested in the same stuff as me. Was wondering if anyone knew a place to hang out with other punk rockers and skaters.
As the title says, I'm hoping people might be able to suggest someplace NOR that is quiet and out of the way. I know about light pollution and how it probably won't be able to see much without driving a few hours out in the middle of nowhere, but still hoping someone might be able to suggest a nice spot to just chill, lie on some grass or a blanket and just look up for a couple of hours.
So until now we've mostly gone to kid-friendly beaches like Rockingham (calm and shallow!) but as the kids are getting older, they like to play in the waves and body surf & boogie board.
What's a good beach that is more rough but not dangerous (I know you can drown anywhere, but I mean doesn't get super deep really quickly, isn't known for stingers etc) and suitable for kids over 8.
Thanks in advance!
ETA Thanks for the replies so far!
I should have said that we go to Rockingham due to the shallow & safety factor, we do have to drive south around 20min. Any beach in Perth is an option 😁
